I just started mountain biking and I'm very interested in getting really fast. My goal is to increase my leg power during the upclimbs. Should I weight train during my racing season? What type of weight training will improve my performance besides just getting on my bike and training?

Thanks Caroline

how often do you race? working out your legs would be a good idea to improve on strength but you all have to include endurance training as well... it depends on how often you race to determine how often you should exercise....

plyometric training...like jump squats.
Also leg press, lunges, leg extensions..and don't neglect your core ( abs and lower back ) to prevent injury.

glute-ham raises, reverse hypers, squats, good mornings, resistance biking, practice lots of endurance work...

Interesting.. I just asked a more or less similar question on workouts. I don't race though, but am a slow endurance snail, who would like to become faster..
I also want to finish the lack of balance between largish legs and weakly arms, abs and back.
