Am a curious how you measure your bodyfat. Could you tell me? In your blog you have
* 1-11-08 167.4lbs 14.3%bf
* 1-10-08 167.8lbs 15.6%bf
* 1-9-08 165.8lbs 15.2%bf
* 1-8-08 167.6lbs 14.3%bf
* 1-7-08 167.8lbs 15.8%bf
* 1-6-08 167.0lbs 16.9%bf
* 1-5-08 167.2lbs 14.4%bf
* 1-4-08 168.0lbs 15.9%bf
* 1-3-08 169.2lbs 15.0%bf
* 1-2-08 169.0lbs 12.4%bf
* 1-1-08 173.0lbs 13.8%bf
How do you know your bodyfat is 15.9% for example?

Thanks.

I use a tanita 559. It checks bodyfat through the feet. The bodyfat and weight numbers are really irrelevant. Based on previous contest preps, I know where I am based on what this scale says. Example: Say I am 1 month out and the scale says 170lbs 10%bf; i know i am on track. And a couple of days out, 168lbs 9%bf lets me know I am gonna be dialed in. My actual skinfold % may be 4 or 5%.

I always get a lot of people saying "Do you think that scale is really accurate enough? I thought the hydrostatic method was the best? Should I trust the skinfold calipers?" Basicly, the numbers on the scale equal a certain look. They are just a reference point for me. I don't really care what my "actual" bf% is.

Bodyfat doesn't drop. It's the amount of fluid that I expel overnight. If I took in a bit less or more sodium or carbs that day, the bf% on the scale would change with it. Bodyfat and weight are inversely proportionate.

Example: You step on a weight/bf% scale and it shows your weight is 180lbs and shows your bodyfat is 15%. You grab a couple of 10 pound dumbbells and step back on the scale. Your weight will say 200lbs, but the calculated bodyfat will show to be a lot lower, because the weight on the scale is more.

People ask all the time "What bodyfat percentage do I need to be to get a ripped, shredded six pack?" My response: "I have no idea.......once you get the ripped, shredded six pack, I can check your bodyfat and tell you what the percentage is."

I'll do my skinfold one day this week and let you know how it compares to the foot scale.
