I work For Gallatin Steam Plant. We have a gym there. Prior to that I went to World Gym in Hendersonville for a bit and golds in rivergate. I hated driving that far to work out though.

Wish someone had the resource to open a gym here or ever whitehouse.

I work in Gallatin also, but on the other side of town from you. Had a month trial membership at the World Gym in Hendersonville a couple years ago, but didn't end up signing up ... little too far to drive. It seemed pretty hardcore, looked like an excellent gym.

There's a gym in White House, north of town next to the army surplus store on 31W. My wife and I have a couple friends that take martial arts classes and work out there, they told my wife there's a lot of equipment in the back. I don't know how much of it is free weight, but couldn't hurt to check into.

hey, vols_man... No, I have not been to the new French Riviera in Cordova. It used to be a Six-50 Fitness gym, but they closed it a little while back. I would bet that since it's only been open a few months that all of the equipment is new. I have some friends that go to the French on Poplar @ Highland. If I remember correctly, the French out in Raleigh has been there a long time and it does not surprise me that it's a little rough.

I'm a member at Cordova Athletic Club on Club Parkway off Germantown Road. I like it pretty well and it's close to the house. I go in the mid afternoon before the evvening rush. I used to go to 24 Hour Fitness over on Ridgeway, but it's too inconvenient for me to get there now.

It was very cheap but I got tired of being around work people all the time. Plus, they did not have as many free weights as they should have.

Depending on where in town you live/work, you might also consider Wellworx on Shelby Oaks Drive. It's right off Sycamore View (Exit 12 on I-40). That place is huge but I've never been a member. A friend of mine was for a while and he said it was nice. They used to be called Wimbledon SportsPlex, but got bought by Six50 Fitness then became WellWorx after Six50 closed (or went out of business). They have a second one that's brand new downtown on Main Street.

Last year, I went to the zoo and did some stuff downtown. I might try and go to one of the beaches this year or may go to Sea World. I have never been to northern California. I'm planning to go sometime, but not sure when. Some friends of mine want to get a few of us together and go to wine country also. Everyone that I know who has been there really had a good time. Palm Springs is probably my favorite place in southern California.... I've been ther 4 or 5 times. You should go if you ever have the opportunity. Palm Springs is a beautiful place.

There are some rural areas in the state, but there are also some cities- nothing as large as NYC though. The Memphis and Nashville areas are both around 1 million people or so. Where in Tennessee is your mother wanting to move?

There are some of both. It all depends on where she decides to look. The suburbs here are typical of suburbs you will see anywhere else in the USA. If you live downtown (like Memphis or Nashville) you'll find lofts, apartments, condos, townhouses, etc like you would in any other city. The cities are not as large as they are in Florida, but they have many of the same lifestyles. Nashville & Memphis both have large suburban areas.

Rural areas are a lot different though and some people like that a lot better. I grew up in a rural area but moved to the city when I was 18. I am still there. My family still lives in the country.

There are three distinct regions of Tennessee: West, Middle, and East. West Tennessee is flat with some rolling hills. Middle Tennessee has more hills an a rockier terrain and East Tennessee has the Smokey Mountains. Each one has their good and bad features. I like the weather in Memphis more than the weather in the other parts of the state. It is typicaly warmer here and the winters are milder than in the rest of the state. We get one maybe two snow/ice storms a year. The summers are hot and humid, but since I grew up here, I am used to it.

Tennessee is a fairly inexpensive state to live in- especially compared to Florida. There's no state income tax, yet. There are some good and bad schools, but that depends largely on the area.

If you find out where she's looking (Even if it is just a general idea), it will help to answer your questions.

It's a small world. Haven't visited this site in a long time, but then came on here tonight and caught this thread. Used to live in Hendersonville and was a member of World Gym for a couple of years (yeah - they're hard core). Also been to the Gallatin Civic Center a few times. Members of the Y were lifting at the gym of the Baptist Church (behind the home of the current Y facility in Hendersonville) while the new place was being built. I moved out of the area before the place was finished. Anyone know what the place is like??

Moved to a very rural part of SE middle TN - at least one decent place I know of in Winchester (Mass Appeal) and one in Tullahoma (Harveys Gym).

It's getting very expensive to live here in AZ. I think I'd like to move to Chattanooga but I'm not sure I could get used to cold, dark winters again!


Compared to AZ I guess Chatt does get cold, but I find we have very mild winters. Maybe a couple weeks we're in the 20's or 30's. Usually around 50 for a high in the winter.

Have you tried Memphis Fitness? To me, it's the best club I've been in and I've traveled to a lot of cities and haven't found one I like more. It's not too big, but has all the equipment, and the owner is on site and really cares about his customers and what they want.

Hey, I'm glad I found this thread... I am considering moving to the Knoxville/Oak Ridge area. How is it up there? As far as gyms I'd like to try and find a place that has a good weight section and full court basketball. Currently, I go to LA Fitness and really like it because there are usually good (full court) games going on from like 3:30pm-9pm any weekday. I don't mean pro or semi pro level, but decent athletes who sort of know what they're doing. Is there any place like that up there? Maybe a city rec center or something?

I use the West Knoxville Rush. That place is always packed... its ridiculous.

The Oak Ridge one is the same, constantly packed. Plus it doesn't even have a striking bag or a basketball court.

I dont think its a real nickname or anything but I've heard a lot of people say it. Also heard people call clarksville clarksvegas knoxville knoxvegas etc. Also heard memphis called Memphrica just for the record.

the -vegas thing is kind of a dig on how boring most of the towns in TN are (you know, exactly the opposite of Las Vegas?) Almost everyone I know would recognise you calling K-town Knoxvegas.

Come to find out I may be moving out to the Sutherland area in west knox the middle of this year.

I recommend not even bothering to go to the Rush between 4:30 and 8. Its uncomfortably ridiculously packed.

I work For Gallatin Steam Plant. We have a gym there. Prior to that I went to World Gym in Hendersonville for a bit and golds in rivergate. I hated driving that far to work out though.

I'm from Manchester originally. Going all the way to Murfy to train, eh? When I was growing up about the only place to workout was the Tullahoma city fitness and aquatic center. Somebody opened a small gym in downtown Manchester shortly after I left for college. Are there any gyms at all in Manchester or Tullahoma now?

I'm in Murfreesboro, TN. I've recently started lifting after a very lengthy period of sedentary life (12+ years.) I did the South Beach Diet back in 2007 and went from 310lbs to 190lbs, but I didn't work out at all, so the weight loss was probably mostly water and muscle. So now I'm up to 240lbs, and am not in great shape. My problem area is that part that starts at my knees and goes up to my neck. O.o

I joined Olympus just last week, and I really need a knowledgeable workout partner. I've got a friend helping me out, showing me some stuff, but he has a partner already.

Anyone that's a serious lifter interesting in helping out a newbie, feel free to pm me.

Hi, my name is Brian, I just started getting into working out and while I would like to get bigger and gain muscle my main goal is to be in the best physical shape I can be in. I just started doing Parkour and realized I need to be in top shape to do all that I would like with it.
I currently work out at the Urban Active on Murfreesboro Pike in Antioch, Tn right outside of Nashville, I would like to meet som people to help me stay motivated at my goals. I have a personal trainer at the gym that helps a ton but my time with him is ending shortly and after that I will go back to working out by myself. I'm not a freak or a weirdo, I'm a normal dude just wanting to meet some one who has similar physical goals and would like to workout together.
