I know.. You know eventhough I made this huge transformation, getting the eating down is always hard.. We just have to stay focused. I have a good oatmeal recipe
Cooked oatmeal + sugar free Raspberry syrup..
Close your eyes its almost like raspberry pie. :D

Hi everyone!
Hey, Nancy..thanks for the invite. Sorry it took me a bit to check in with ya, but I was taking time to get set up in the cutting challenge that started on Jan 1st.
My goals are pretty similar to the rest of you...
1. Reduce body fat to 15%
2. Find me some Ab`s
3. Keep up with my clean eating. *this I`m doing awesome on!:)
Mostly I just want to continue with my body transformation. As of today, I have lost 61 pounds since I began my weight loss journey last February. Just 1 more pound and I will have lost 50% of my starting weight! It is exciting to see just what I`m capable of achieving!! Just yesterday, I went shopping for some new clothes with my Kohls gift card and am just tickled that I came home with some size 3 corduroy jeans! I used to be a size 18/20!
So, best of luck to us all, on reaching our goals! By sticking together and motivating each other, there will be no stopping us!! :)

To the OP...good luck on your goals throughout the next 2 weeks. One thing as I was looking at your workout journel is, I would move your cardio to after you lift. Save your energy for moving those weights. Remember, more muscle mass means more calories burned. Other than that, everything looks great!
To all the others in this thread that are challenging thereselves for the next 12 weeks...I encourage all of you to stay with it. Hopefully this thread will keep everyone motivated.
And now, to me....I want to join this thread like all the others.
I have by far... the longest road ahead of me compared to others in this thread. I tip the scale at around 310lbs. My goal is to lose the fat / save the muscle. I have started a log in the supplement section, and will update it frequently. Yesterday was my first day. Please feel free to join me over there, or if others dont mind, I could also post my updates in this thread.

Bump. Cardio after weights is highly recommended. You'll need all your energy for the weights and you'll get a great burn of calories upon your weight training program.
Tim, welcome aboard. We have all started in one sport or another and each have our own obstacles to overcome. We are hear to support one another and provide the motivation to get us to the next level. Look forward to seeing your transformation.
I'll head over to your other thread and see what info you have.

Evening Abe!
Spark People is a great website that has well over a million members. It is set up for weight loss, fitness, nutrition, and tons of positive support. Best of all..it`s Free!
As for my strength training...I use a Total Gym and do about 20 or more different exercises. I lost my booklet with all the fancy exercise names, but I`m able to do a full body routine and increase my resistance level when I feel it`s time to. I think I`m lifting with 60% of my body weight, if I`m figuring it out correctly. It may not sound as fancy as lifting all the free weights...but it sure has worked wonders for me! I have lost a total of 70 inches, since I started using it, 11 months ago.
And, as for Nancy...I found HER, before she found me! Ha!

I'm in and thanks for the invite Abe! My goals for the following 12 weeks:
1. Drop body fat down to about 15% (12% comp time)
2. Be comp ready!
3. See ab definition which i have NEVER seen.
4. Continue my new workout routine which i should be starting on Monday.
5. I know the scale numbers don't really matter, BUT according to some calculations i did on the net, i should weigh about 120lbs to get to my goal body fat. Who knows, we will see :)
Yeah, similar to everyone elses :)

Thanks for sharing the info on Spark Peoples. I'll have to take a look.
Good deal with the Total Gym work. If you are getting great results with you program...then by all means stick with it. Keep working at it hard. 60% is a great number and loosing 70 inches is amazing stuff.

Hey girl, :D
Como Estas? Glad your joining the challenge. You have great goals and with your determination I'm sure you'll reach them in no time.
As for posting stats/pics. Do them at whatever pace your comfy with. I tend to post lifting stats about once a week depending on whether I reach a new PB. My last progress pic is the most recent. I'm currently in a bulking stage so not to attractive here. lmao But I plan on posting a new pic in a week or so. Again its at your own pace and comfort zone. :D

Hey Monte,
Depending on your budget you may want to check out the craig's list in your area. You might be able to find some good stuff at a cheap price. Of course you can always go out and buy it straight up at a place like Dick's Sporting Goods or other similar store (walmart/target). Also try Play it Again sports. Getting things like a bar, plates, etc could be a bit cheaper. My recommendation is to ID the key essentials for your program, budget and confirm space.
As for the punching bag/stand. I got that for cheap at Sports Authority (stand) and punching bag at Costco. Both items were reasonable and about $140 total. I love the system. Right now due to my time schedule I don't box as much but will make it part of my cardio in Feb. I love it and have a awesome kick ass...I mean kick ass program. PM me your email address if interested.
Have a great weekend with your girls. See ya on Monday.

Man I'm gone one day and this challenge just took off, That's awesome! As for this weekend, I am working. But will still hit it at 1 am when I get home. I did a test tonight that I plan to do monthly to track my progress, it consist of 4 exercises, with 5 minutes a piece to do as many reps as I could. The results were underwhelming to be sure. I have much work to do and much weight, (fat) to drop.
Monthly test done on a Pull-up, Push-up, Dip, Ab station.
Pull-ups- (Assisted) total 11
Bar Push-ups- total 22
Hanging knee raises (ab's) total 47
Dips- HAHAH er, I mean zero
After the first 3 exercises I was done for.
Improvement for sure next month!
Have a great weekend everyone!

Ok, I am going to teach you all how to post an image. I've seen several threads with people asking ,"How do i post an image that you don't have to click?" I'm here to answer that question.
Note: If you need to edit an image before you upload it, IrfanView is a freeware graphics viewer and editor. You can perform simple tasks such as changing the image format, cropping the image, resizing, and etc. If you need to do more advanced editing, GimpShop is another freeware tool that is very similar to Photoshop. (added by pogue)
=============================================
Method #1
=============================================
**Can be used to post an image already hosted on the internet.
First, locate the image you wish to put in your post. Right click and choose 'copy image location'
Next you will need to put your copied link in between two IMG tags.
Skip to the bottom of my post to see how to do the IMG tags
==============================================
Method #2
==============================================
**Can be used to post your own work, or to re-host a file you either cannot obtain a link to or fear the host will go down.
First, locate the image you wish to post. Right click the image and choose 'Save image as'. Save the image to your desktop.
Next, Open your browser and navigate to www.imageshack.us. Click the 'Browse' button to search for your image. Select your file and click 'open'
Next, hit the 'host it' button. Be sure your file is not too large, the maximum file size is 1.5 MB.
Your file will upload and you will be taken to a page with several links. Copy the one at the very bottom, next to 'Direct link to image'
==============================================
Method #3 (added by pogue)
==============================================
ImageShack provides several tools to automate these processes. There is a Firefox Extension called ImageShack right-click that allows you to simply right click on an image you want to upload it. It will then open a new tab with the links to the uploaded picture.
Secondly, there is also a Windows tool called ImageShack Quickload that installs using Windows Installer & requires .NET Framework. It allows you to upload an image by right clicking on it anywhere on your Windows screen, such as on your desktop or through Explorer.
There is also a similar tool for Macintosh users called the ImageShack Dashboard Widget
Finally, there is an ImageShack Toolbar for both IE and Firefox that has the same functions as the above utilities.
===============================================
Insert the image in your post. (IMG tags)
===============================================
Now we are ready to insert the image into your post. Paste the link to the image in between two IMG tags. See image below.
Now when you post the image will appear directly on the page.

Hey guys, I've been reading all the posts since my last posts.. Welcome ChinaPeach and Julie. Its snowing again in Ottawa, so not doing much over the weekend other than relax, enjoying some foods (in moderation of course) before I start my diet. Just going to be a relaxed weekend. Today, I trained with Holpl (Holger) and we did shoulders, he really pushed me to hit it hard, I think i'm going to feel that tomorrow. Tomorrow is the big day, I will be posting all my stats.. Have a great weekend

Back at it after a minor stumble last week. The Bill Starr 5x5 program that I'm on told me I would hit a wall in one or all of my routines and it looks like the bench has hit the wall. I did a lot better this week then last but I will need to keep working on my current bench numbers until I build the strength to exceed the 205 rut.
I also changed up the order of my routine. Joel provided me with a recommendation on push vs pull and I decided to listen and give it a try. I felt really good and haven't had any bad shoulder pain. So I will keep the following order going....
Here's the scoop:
Squat:
125x5
160x5
190x5
240x5
245x5
Rows:
110x5
120x5
140x5
155x5
165x5
Bench:
125x5
140x5
170x5
195x5
205x4 (did a rest pause for rep #4; taking safety into consideration..but couldn't get a 5 rep)
BB Curl:
80x8
90x8
90x8
90x8
Standing DB Curl:
30x8
30x8
30x8
30x8
Abs:
Double crunches 4sets x 20 reps
Post Workout Shake: a Chocolate Almond Shake (chocolate whey, 2 banana's, almonds and milk) good :D
P.S. Bent my f#@#King new olympic bar. So now I have to replace it. :mad:

I've seen a variety of journal and workout logs. Everyone post a different things. I post my WO program to show folks what I'm doing and perhaps get some insight on tweaking my plan. Like Nancy, the info could be helpful to someone else.
Plus this thread is more then just a challenge. I also see it as a tool to chat and meet new folks.
So post anything as long as its not mean or offensive. lmao. :D

I've been looking at my old logs to figure out why I'm struggling so much with my heavy lifts. Especially since I was able to accomplish these lifts just three weeks ago. What I found was something very interesting and something that I took for granted. It looks like I've been doing thre major lifts in one routine. Meaning I'm lifting the following:
125, 140, 190 200 and 205. Where as before I was lifting 125, 140, 160, 185 and 200. As you will see in the second set of numbers I have a steady progression upward. Nothing to crazy or intense. Just a nice steady number getting me ready to hit a big record. In my first set of numbers I'm just lifting to high and there's no steady progression. Its easy for two sets and then hard for 3...which is killing me and causing me to fatigue faster.
So this week I will tweak things and will also do so next week to test my theory. Lets hope I'm right.

hehehh, buenos dias nena =) como estas?
Today is my first day back on the weights... im so excited..... hehehhee
thanks for the info HBK.
Welcome to all the new comers =)
I ran fri. sat. sunday i took a break and took my girls to the mountains =)
I will do my routine today I will begin by warming up with a mile and cooling off with 2 miles.
a total of about 21 min of running after my weight training....
I am trying Pete Sysco's training method so for these first 3 weeks its a baseline setup.... 1 set of 20 reps per muscle group... and they are partial reps. I figure I will try it for 12 weeks and if i get no results revert back to what I was doing, and or try something else until i find something that works...
HOPE EVERYONE HAS A KICK ASS DAY AND HAVE A GREAT WORK OUT!

Tonight will be a cardio night for me, did weight training yesterday. Still trying to tweak my workout as well. I have been doing the chest/tri, back/bi, and shoulders/legs all in supersets, with cardio following each workout, and then of course cardio on my non weight training days....
I am going to try and take some new full body pics and measurements to start this challenge off right, and so i can see the progress I make thru the 12 weeks.

Nice...
I will also be taking measurements tommorow as well.
I am not really monitoring my weight during this transformation, but instead going to measure my success by the mirror and tape measurements.
In all honesty I could care less what I weigh, as long as I look / feel good.
To me...weight is just a number.

Welcome on board.... I was taking photos almost every workout.... I think that was overboard.. I think once a week is good =) gives you a bit of some time to let your body change a bit and allow you enough time to spot things that you may want to change.... I found having to many to soon doesnt allow you to see a transition... thats my 2 cents, I have to agree with HBK getting on the path and moving forward is a victory in itself now lets keep it going.....

Hey go to your control panel and then my personal stats and program and select edit body stats. You can input your body stats, height, weight body measurements, etc. Plus there is a short vid on how to measure arms, legs, shoulders and chest. Its pretty easy and you just need a tape measurer and perhaps your wife to help you measure chest and shoulders.
I would recommend taking pics maybe every two weeks or once a month. Keep in mind that your body will take time to change and you may not quickly see a lot of results on camera. Not seeing resutls right away can also mess with ones head. Speaking from experience. But once you get into the flow of your routine you can take pics every week..etc depends on you.

Nice...
I will also be taking measurements tommorow as well.
I am not really monitoring my weight during this transformation, but instead going to measure my success by the mirror and tape measurements.
In all honesty I could care less what I weigh, as long as I look / feel good.
To me...weight is just a number.
I like the positive thinking. Positive thinking maybe the best supplement you can get. Keep up the great work.

You`ll get there, Deanna. The middle is always the toughest to get gone..but it is also the area that produces the most astounding transformations! My tummy is my last area to defeat, after my long road of losing the pounds, but I`m slooowly winning the battle. You will too! :)

Well, it looks like another day is done. Guess I`ll post my totals and call it a night...
Calories: 1299
Fat: 39
Carbohydrates: 138
Protein: 120
Sodium: 873
Fitness: tried something new, tonight..it`s called "The Ladder". I learned of it from a guy on Sparks, and he learned it during Police Academy training. It was tough!! But I did it! May not have been super fast, by any means, but I`m pretty darn proud of myself for making it through! And I even squeezed out 40 'guy' push ups, during the exercise! Yay me!!:D

I have been keeping a food journal but I think yesterday I actually cut the calories too much.
Calories: 1800
Protein: 120g
I am shooting for about 2500 calories and 180g of protein. I can't beleive that I fell short of that if anything I thought I would be going over. So in the first day keeping this food journal I have already learned something.

Morning Harry. The great thing about a journal..whether its a lifting one or nutrition is that it gives you a chance to record the info and see it laid out of time. As you record its easier to tweak things and provide a justification as to why you are tweaking things. As you noted you thought you were in the right direction, but stats IDed something different. So now you get to tweak. This process is part of the fitness life style change. You'll figure things out soon enough and have things running smooth in no time.

Good Evening folks. I wrapped up another nice session of 5x5 tonight. I will admit I was a bit worried about tonights lift. I been struggling in the bench and I wasn't sure if I would be able to put anything up. But I was stubborn...you thought I was going to say determined. ;). LMAO.
No I was stubborn. I decided to go for a new PB in the Decline. I was successful and I'm really jazzed. I really focused all day and visualized lifting the weight and making it to the end of the set. Also a key contributing factor was identifying the proper 60, 70, 80 and 90% weight limit off of my fianal lift of 205. Over all Good stuff. :D
Here's the Scoop:
Squat:
125x5
165x5
190x5
190x5
205x5
Decline Bench:
125x5
140x5
165x5
205x5
Deadlift
115x5
135x5
155x5
175x5
185x5
Shoulder Press:
85x8
95x8
120x8 (stay)
90x8
Abs, Double Crunch 4 sets x20 reps.

Yeah I'm loving it as well. I'm on my second phase. I'm starting to hit a wall, so its time to tweak and get through the mental barriers. :D
Sux on not being able to do my tonage...but chiro's know best..right. lol. Volume is good. It will make your legs pop. You can also mix things up...by doing on legged squats with bodyweight or a 10lb plate. It's similar to doing a heavy squat. How..your off balance so your collecting form fibers to keep you balanced and accomplishing the squat. Plus who knows it could also help strengthen your legs. Check with chiro first...cause I'm no doc. lol

here's the key. Just bring an index card with you all day. write what you eat on there if you can't find nutritional values on something go to CalorieKing its a website that you can look foods up on. just add the dot com on the end. I find it easier to do that and just put all that info into a journal on the computer later.

I have a challenge for anyone that wants to participate!
I seen it in some other threads were they were doing "deck of cards".
Each suit of the deck is giving an exercise. Then you draw cards and complete that exercise how ever many number of times the card says. The value of the cards is usually as follows:
1-5 = 5
6-10 = number shown
face cards = 10
ace = 12
Jockers can also be whatever variation you want, say.. tabatta squats, or, add in some skipping, or stair sprints, or even a rest.
I will probably do the following:
Hearts = bodyweight squats
Clubs = Crunches
Spades = Jumping Jacks
Diamonds = Push Ups (slight incline due to body weight)
This should take close to an hour to complete...and I gurantee you will be soaking wet when done!
Who wants to accept the challenge? You can designate whatever exercise you want for the suit of cards.

Yeah... I am the lead designer at a Engineering & Construction Firm.
We just finished building a 1,000,000+ 3 story waterfront home for a client of ours that has a huge back deck on the second floor with a swimming pool. Well the original plans I drew up had cable railing for the back deck. The clients kept making multiple change orders at the end and ended up requesting a section of the rail be a half wall instead of railing with built in bench seating and a fire pit. I made this change without much thought. Well stupid me, and field supervisors failed to catch that we designed the original deck with a slight slope to allow proper drainage.
Well what the hell happens when the water drain to a damn wall....It damns up. :(
We created a damn! GGGRRRRRR such a stupid stupid mistake that should of never happened! Now we have to tear all that out, re seal the deck, lay new stone for the deck surface, and restucco.
I have a meeting Thursday with the job site supervisors, bosses and such to find out how this happened, and how we are fixing it.

WHAT I AM CURRENTLY EATING
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d43/TIMS93GT/Lunch.jpg
Plain Tuna Fish with some mustard and pepper / with a half of a sweet potatoe.
My diet I posted earlier is evolving some. I am incorporating "good carbs" to my diet. The carbs will be cut out after 3:00PM. Essentially, I have added oatmeal to breakfast, and some sweet potatoes during my earlier meal. (half a sweet potatoe.)

Do you research and make sure they you combo supps correctly. There isn't to much regulation on supps and sometimes mixing certain supps could have a negative effect on a person.

I dont' know what Thyrotabs are.. but make sure it ok to mix them. I'm on Cytolean ONLY right now.. I used to take Cytolean and Yohimbe together. But you have to be careful with Yohimbe esp. for women apperently it loosens women's uterus (which means if you were to get prego, you would have a miscarriage).

Yeah - There's no doubt of this. Insulin blocks the effect of lipolysis from Yohimbine; I personally think it is best used (if at all) on an empty stomach before cardio combined with a very low-carb diet. Here's one (of several) studies showing the effects of Yohimbine being blocked:
Quote:
Eur J Clin Invest. 1988 Dec;18(6):587-94.
Alpha 2-antagonist compounds and lipid mobilization: evidence for a lipid mobilizing effect of oral yohimbine in healthy male volunteers.Galitzky J, Taouis M, Berlan M, Rivi?re D, Garrigues M, Lafontan M.
Laboratoire de Pharmacologie Clinique et M?dicale, Universit? Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France.
Investigations were carried out to analyse the interactions of alpha 2-antagonists (yohimbine, idazoxan, SK & F-86,466) with human fat cell alpha 2-adrenoceptors. All the alpha 2-antagonists enhanced the lipolytic potencies of epinephrine with an order of potency: yohimbine greater than idazoxan greater than SK & F-86,466; the same order was also found in 3H-yohimbine competition studies on human fat cell membranes. The most potent agent, yohimbine, was administered orally in humans to define the conditions of appearance and the time-course of a putative lipid-mobilizing action. Oral yohimbine administration (0.2 mg kg-1) elevated plasma glycerol and non-esterified fatty acids in fasting healthy subjects without significant action on heart rate or blood pressure during the time-course of the experiment. The lipid-mobilizing action of yohimbine was reinforced during physical exercise, completely suppressed after a meal and partially blocked by administration of propranolol (0.5 mg kg-1; 60 min before yohimbine). Plasma norepinephrine concentrations were increased (40-50%) after oral yohimbine administration. The rise in plasma catecholamine concentration elicited by yohimbine was not modified by propranolol treatment. The lipid-mobilizing effect of yohimbine could be attributable to: (i) the increase in synaptic norepinephrine with a resultant increment in lipolysis by beta-adrenergic agonism; (ii) a decrease in alpha 2-adrenoceptor stimulation of human fat cell alpha 2-adrenoceptors; (iii) a blockade of presynaptic alpha 2-adrenoceptors. The use of highly selective alpha 2-antagonists will allow investigations into alpha 2-adrenoceptors, which may represent a novel locus for pharmacological intervention in lipid-mobilization strategies.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
