I'm having trouble with front squats, it feels like the bar wants to roll forward and it's causing my forearms and wrists alot of grief.
Do you think lifting shoes will help with this? and force me to lean back and keep the bar from moving.
How long did it take you guys to front squat a decent percentage of your back squat #

Firstly, rack the bar properly, behind the clavicles on the front deltoid's groove.
Thats were it should dit the whole time, its a locked position and cant change.
Now, if ou want to use cea grip, rather then holding the bar in your palm, instead have 2-4 finger tips on the bar, there should be o weight or tress on the wrists, you should be fully supported.
Ill take a pic tomorow if you dont understand.
Oly shoes are magical, they pretty much fix 90% of peoples squatting form and with some hip mbility and soft tissue work thrown in pretty much everyone I have taugh to squat is rocking out deep atg with a tight arch. Easily the most important piece of equipment I own.
I can do 401x2 atg back squats and I have done 308x2 front squats, and will be going for 330+ front squat tommorow.

Tuisto, assuming that you're not leaning forward (yes, shoes help) the number 1 cause of the bar rolling forward is that the bar is bent, and doesn't spin well to begin with. But that's probably something that is out of your control. Try to find the best bar in the club/gym when doing the front squats
just a suggestion

Your avatar clip is a good tutorial itself.
Get that pic up you mentioned above.

Big chest, big arch, high elbows, relaxed arms :)

Thanks guys, I'd say the problem is that I haven't been relaxing my arms, but gripping onto the bar.
I'll try with only my finger tips under the bar :)

You can start that way, but usually you can turn the bar over faster if you keep your grip on it. I've been using my finger tips for over two years, and now I'm trying to get used to hold it when I rack it. I'll post a good tip for you later today.

This is mildly retarded but can you elaborate on the bar being behind the clavicles because I think I set the bar properly but it presses into my neck effectively choking me lol. Any advice?

This is what happens to me, so I just do them on the smith machine as my last quad exercise with only two or three plates on a side for high reps and it burns quite nicely!

front squats for oly lifting or really any sport should not be done on a smith.

I do it for size, hence the reps. Granted I'm in the wrong section of the forum to be talking about mass gain, but I'm just stating what I do to exhaust my quads further.

The bar usually on top of mine. I get a little bruising because I can't get my elbow quite high enough yet. The bar will be in slightly different places depending on your body structure. The goal is to have your elbows high, and the bar completely resting on your shoulders.
