There great exercises especially the powerclean and fullclean+jerk because it will work lots of your muscles. It even helped my deadlift but there also fun to do IMHO. Unless its high reps thats where you really get tired:p. I can powerclean 155lbs so far I cant wait to get my bumper plates I wont have to worry about slamming the weight:)

they're nothing special. i've seen them over and over and over and over again, like no matter how many times people post this noone ever gets the idea.

besides, they don't show anything on squat jerks.

Im pretty sure most football coaches use powercleans. Not saying one is better than the other but powercleans are used more for football players.

don't watch videos to improve form a get a certified weightlifting coach. there's so much more to weightlifting that you can't see. only watch if there are no coaches around because habits are hard to break and olympic lifts are meant to be done with technique. take it from me i know what i'm talking about.

Videos can be indispensable in figuring out what you're doing wrong, because you can see YOU lifting. If you know what to look for, or have a qualified person help, you'll be able to progress quickly.

A weightlifting coach would be ideal, but even so, a good weightlifting coach WILL take videos of your lifting and analyze them with you.

I take offense at this comment:

"take it from me i know what i'm talking about."

What do you mean by this? Why are you qualified to give this advice? Why not talk and be reasonable instead of making your ideas sound as if they're the only way to do things?

Me too. Funny thing is, he doesn't.

It's not him of course in the picture. His other picture of a weightlifter in his profile is also of course not him. As a caption to his picture, he wrote: "Back in the day. clean and jerk. 195 i believe"

Any weightlifter worth his salt would have known how much weight was on the bar without saying "I believe" (it was 200). 2 minutes of googling revealed it to be Alexey Yufkin of Russia:

http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/07y0cnpbGB1L0/610x.jpg

So yeah, "back in the day" of 2008 at the European championships :D

As for your comment, personal trainers *in general* are awful teachers of Olympic weightlifting technique, simply because the vast majority never learn how to do them. That's totally expected, of course. Same with most high school and college strength coaches. Noone ever taught them properly, so they perpetuate poor technique. The best coaches are the ones who work in the trenches with Olympic weightlifters. Luckily, the USA weightlifting website has a list of all the local clubs around the country, so it's pretty easy to find a coach in most areas who will even teach for free. :)

Uh huh, sure... that's why you posted a picture of another lifter and passed it off as yourself, and also posted a picture of a fitness model and passed it off as yourself. Why don't you compete in the US if you're so talented? Better yet, post a video of your lifts :)

His profile pics. They're still there if you click on his name. The picture of the weightlifter that he claims is him I mentioned above:

He's a liar:

also i take pride in the fact i can clean and jerk in kilograms my weight in pounds"

It's not him.

Better video quality and more detailed progression in learning the full snatch and the squat clean. Plus anyone who knows O-lifting knows Pendlay.

It doesn't feature much else, this is an Oly technique thread right?

There is at least one problem with those vids. When teaching the Snatch, he totally omits the third pull, when you pull yourself down under the bar. What he focuses on is pulling the second one mostly from standing position, whereas all the pulling is usually done from the mid of the thigh, while Mr. Pendlay considers it as well as bending elbows during the third pull to be mistakes. Why is that?

DankDangles
12-07-2010, 04:34 PM
^^^

Yes, the third pull is not explained and the split jerk is strangely omitted as well, but the original site discussed in this thread has some of the worst coaching/explanations I've ever seen.

The video are great for form, but that Gayle Hatch is god awful at explaining the progression of lifts. He basically describes the movement froma spectator standpoint and tells us nothing about how to go about perorming them properly. The instruction is observatory and is not a progression as it should be.
