Alright, I know through reading a lot of you guys' posts that you all do a lot of cardio during a cutting phase for a contest. Recently, i talked to someone who is very knowledgable and successful in b-building and he said not to do any cardio when getting ready for a contest because it will just get rid of muscle. He says instead to concern yourself 100% with diet and weight-training.

What do you all think of that?

again, this is someone who definitely knows what hes talking about.

I agree with him...to a point. Cardio is definately more catabolic than dieting however...some people's metabolisms just are not fast enough to get to a low bodyfat without cardio. Cardio also releases hormones which oxidize fat (especially in the lower body area) I would say that if one could get to a contest bodyfat level without cardio...great, but this would only be possible for people who are very ectomorphic. Not to mention is you needed to lose 1.5-2 lbs per week you would have to drop calories by up to 1000 kcal per day! if your basal rate is 2500 that means you'd only be taking in 1500 that's not much at all. If you do enough cardio to burn 500 kcals you can add that back into your totals so you would have 2000 kcal per day. You see what I mean...cardio allows you to eat more. But yes...do as little cardio as is possible.
Peace
