Right now I run the 40yrd dash in a 5.1 I am 179 lbs I want to get down to a 4.9 next year to play fullback instead of offensive guard since I am too small. What kind of speed program should I be on to gain a lot of speed for next year
do interval training at distances from 20-100 yards. that means do a sprint, jog back to the starting line, then do it again, etc, maybe 5-15 times, depending on the distance. also, do some olympic training, like powercleans, clean and jerk, snatch, etc.

.2 improvement is very realistic, remember that you are still very young. 5.1 is very good for a freshman. as I have suggested for a number of people, see if Frappier Acceleration has an office in your area. Their program is excellent and very rewarding.
179 lbs is an excellent weight for a freshman O-lineman(unless you're very tall), BTW. As a SENIOR I played at 180-185 and was an all-conference center. You could make an excellent guard at your size, and remember that you still have a lot of growing yet to do and a lot of weightlifting in the years ahead.
My fullback, who rushed for about 900 yards his jr. year and over 1000 his senior, outweighed me by 50 pounds.

Do a lot of cleans. Do them correctly, and do them a lot! I was the only person on my team to do Cleans regularly (our weight trainer was a huge Powerlifting advocate, hated Cleans :P), and I can't imagine why EVERYBODY on the team shouldn't have done them. I went from the slowest O and D lineman to being able to keep up with the backs in a single summer!

Plyos, Stairs, and Sleds.
And honestly, at your age, If you simply improve your technique and your start you should improve your time by .2
...and Don't think size means slow. You can get big and still be fast! I play semi pro football and am always in the top 3 fastest on my team at 290 lbs!
Good luck!!! Michigan huh...what school do you play for??

Speed chutes and resistance bands are great tools that I recommend, as they increase top speed. Also Speedtrainingreview.com is an independent source for viable products.

If you're serious about performing well, find a strength and conditioning coach. A good coach will be able to work with you on everything including strength training, development of power, injury prevention, linear/lateral speed mechanics, mobility/flexibility, etc.
Some people make it without a coach, but if you are serious about making it to the next level or performing well, then find a good coach.
