I swear this is my last thread. Where to begin? :)
Most Important Goal
School. Starts in January. I’ve applied to the College of Mass Communications. I’ll call and speak to someone in Admissions today to figure out what I need to do as far as undergraduate courses are concerned in order to move on to graduate school. I hold an undergraduate degree in Psychology already. At the very least, I’ll be collecting some pretty new diplomas.
School so far has been an interesting adventure for me:
* Graduated high school early at 16 years old (too young!)
*Turned down a scholarship to Furman University (not only young, but goofy also!)
*Signed up for 6 (count em -- 18 hours) of courses at USC – quit without withdrawing  – 6 beautiful grades of “F” on my academic record until death do us part. They won't let me divorce them.
*Tried again the next semester – 2 Bs, a B+ and another pretty F as I once again, just decided to quit going to that class. Sold my book back in the B+ class mid-semester and bought submarine sandwiches for me and my brother at Stuffy’s. So focused! :p We thought we were so funny.
*Gave up and went to work full time. I enjoyed working so much better. I also married and made beautiful babies with the help of God and a little help from Brian. ;) All in all -- not a bad life decision.
**Went back to school at the age of 36 and graduated at the age of 40 – Go Me! – with a 3.485 GPA. Earned all A’s that time with the exception of 2 B+s and redeemed my academic record somewhat. ;) My previous education disaster may have been due to lack of effort. LOL I also decided to read my books instead of selling them to buy lunch. :D
So. . . here we go again. One day I may feel somewhat inteligente.
Goal No. 2 – Stay healthy and Strong by continuing to eat healthy, lift, and train for the Cooper River Bridge Run
Weight: 120.75lbs
Height: 5’4.5”
Bodyfat: 13.5%
Lean Mass: 104.5lbs
Blubber: 16.25lbs
Goals: Maintain or add lean mass and keep blubber between 13 and 15% bodyfat
Will check stats each Friday.
For right now:
1,728 calories – 197P/100C/60F – 5 to 6 days per week
2,200 calories – 190P/260C/50F – 1 or 2 days per week (definitely Saturdays)
Training: 3 or 4 day splits – depends on what the week entails. Training for the Cooper River Bridge Run will be thrown in at least 3 times a week.
4 Day:
Quads/abs
Rest
Chest/tris/calves
Back/bis/abs
Rest
Shoulders/hams
Rest
3 Day:
Legs/Calves
Rest
Back/Bis/abs
Rest
Chest/shoulders/tris/abs
Rest
Rest
Supps:
Vitamins – multi, B-50, C
Glucosamine/MSM
Calcium/magnesium
Glutamine
Whey
Mass Aminos
Lipo 6 – will cycle that one occasionally – mainly just use it as legal speed.
Creatine (?) maybe – can’t decide
Today’s agenda:
Run this morning
Train this afternoon – back/bis/abs. I’ll do a 3 day split this week as I’m heading to Kiawah on Friday.

Another Journal eh Hibby? :p
Good luck on your run....when is it and what is the distance?
Did you watch the Steelers last night? I fell asleep :( But I did win the football pool at work :D
Hibiscus09
10-11-2005, 06:26 AM
Hi rpaul! :) I swear (cross my fingers) it's the last journal! ;)
I did watch some of the Steelers. They won but the quarterback is injured.
Congrats on your winnings!
The Cooper River Bridge Run is in April -- Charleston, S.C. -- and it's a 10K. I suck at running and will pray for a large crowd that gets in my way and slows me down. :p

Good grief, you change journals almost as often as I change routines!! Glad you have settled on some new goals, the run sounds like a lot of fun and should be a piece of cake considering the great shape you are in. Are you aiming to complete it in a certain time? The 10k and 5k races were my favourites, now I only do them for charity and don't concern myself with my times. Of course all of my race PB's were acheived at a body weight of around 160, now I have an extra 30# to move around so its a good thing I don't race. :D
Good luck, will be following your progress as always. :)

Awesome goals, Hibby. And with your dedication and determination, you will acheive those goals! Good luck and I will be an avid follower of this journal too.

Way to go, Hibby - as usual, you'll succeed with flying colours
:)
ps: I think you should just shorten the name to "Hibby's Thread" - or perhaps abbreviate it to "Hibby's SEFWCWF Thread"

Do well, Hib. I'm sure you will. I started my doctoral degree just months before I was fifty, and it was one of the most exciting adventures of my life. So you might well fully enjoy this educational experience more than if you had done it earlier.

Ha,ha kenny -- not in Espanol. :P Where's the little squiggly thing when you need it? ;) Speaking of foreign languages, I have Latin credit and according to the Journalism requirements on USC's website, that's a no go. Seems like Latin would count for something in freagin Journalism! Oh, well. I've always wanted to take Italian. My Latin professor said Italian would be easy smeasy (is that a word, Kenny? :P ;) ) after Latin. Of course, I could really go the easy route and take Spanish as I've already had 3 years of that language many moons ago.
Gunn, you should see me in action getting dressed to go out. I've only run one 10K in my life -- the Cooper River Bridge Run about 7 years ago or so -- and ran a 10 minute mile. I'm such a sad little runner. Plod, plod, plod. . . "are we there yet, daddy?" I'll try to do at least a 10 minute mile and not trip along the way. Continuing to run and crossing the finish line are my success markers.
Hi ms_mac! Thank you sweetie!
Ha,ha Sam. No television for me. I'll hide behind print.
Hi Chris! :) You're stuck with this title. I do have a problem with condensing things. I'm sure I'll be told that one over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over at school.
Thanks piperman! I definitely enjoyed my education much more as a "mature" student.
Thank you, Shelli!
Okie dokie, let's get this exercise thing going again:
Cardio 37 minutes -- 3.88 miles
Warmup 10 minutes on treadmill at 3.7 to 4.0mph
Run 6 mins at 1% incline and 5.8mph
Walk 3 minutes at 4.0mph

LMAO! Guess what I just found? :
2 boxes Andes Mints
2 Santa Clause Pez Dispensers
2 bags of coal bubble gum
2 boxes green/red gummy bears
2 bags of Christmas chocolate coins
2 Santa tins of jelly beans
All were supposed to be in the kids stockings last year. Rut roh. I thought they were missing something. :p Oh, well. Their stockings were overflowing if I remember correctly. Obviously, my memory does not count for much though. :D
Britt says I have to bring it to her this weekend.

:) So, is the general gist of that "It's true, I did not know you were speaking Spanish?" Don't test me in Spanish. I took it in high school and graduated in 1978.
Okay, I went and did back and bis with Pam this afternoon. I'm doing shoulders and glutes with her in the morning, so I'll do chest/tris Thursday and leggies on Friday, then I'm out of here and off to Kiawah.
Bent Over Rows
45lbs/12 (WU), 70lbs/12, 80lbs/10, 80lbs/9, 80lbs/8
One Arm Rows
20lbs/12 each arm, 25lbs/12 each arm
Rope Rows*I've never done these. They were fun. She had me start on my knees, bent forward from the hips, arms extended and pinkies out. I then turned pinkies in, engaged my lats by pulling the down and squeezing them together, pulled down to my belly button, put chest out and squeezed my lats down and together again. So many thought patterns, so little brain matter. :p
36lbs/14, 46lbs/8, 40lbs/10 *Those suckers made my lats burn
Narrow Low Rows
46lbs/12, 53lbs/12, 60lbs/10
Isolated DB Curls*All my life people have told me to keep my elbows in and tucked by my side. Pam does not tell me that. She also has me barely holding onto the DB -- it's just kind of rolling in my palm -- and at the top kind of twisting my pinkie towards the shoulder on the side I'm working, if'n that makes sense. :p
20lbs/10 each, 25lbs/10, 20lbs/10
Cable Curls with EZ Curl* I like the way she has me do these with a split stance.
50lbs/15, 60lbs/10, 60lbs/10, 46lbs/12
Honky Dory. :D That was lovely.

Cool, GF! :) They're all happy due to their football team this year. :D What will your lectures be about? I'd much rather be on the other side of the desk.
Thanks Chi!
Okay, today's confessions are short:
(1) Thought ugly things when the lady at the pancake house asked me how I would like my egg whites cooked and when she brought my dry whole wheat toast all buttered up. I just thought stuff though. I smiled and was nice outwardly. 1 Hail Mary.
(2) Got mad when some poophead honked at me when I couldn't go because someone else was in front of me. Honked back at him angrily. I don't usually use my horn as a weapon. 1.5 Hail Marys.
That's all I did bad today. Woo-hoo! :D
Fun stuff:
At midnight tonight my baby turns 21 years old!! Yippee! :) I love her. Happy Birthday Brittany! First pic is at a school dance, second is at Disney, 3rd is in a hotel somewhere -- I can't remember, 4th is on the front porch of our first home, and last picture is me and Brittany quite relieved we're off the Aloha Airlines leaking jet.

I was just thinking, "Holy Shiznit!" because I was 21 when I got married. She's such a baby in my eyes!! It's hard to believe. My words of wisdom to her tonight were, "Only stupid kids do that 21 shots thing." LOL! She giggled at me and said not to worry because she would pass out by #9. :D

My lectures are on aquaculture of tilapia and catfish. We farm them here and I have done quite a bit of research and experimentation to get them to grow fast so they can go to market quicker. Faster farming means a cheaper product for the end user. I'm also doing some research on farming shrimp, they're the biggest pain in the ass to grow, if everything isn't exact, I mean 100% spot on, they all croak.

Good morning!
My catchy thread title is gone. :( Seems it was a screen nuisance to some. In the future "some" -- just PM me and ask me to change it. I would have if given a serious request via PM and the reason. Thank you. Here's one of these for you: _______ . This thread title sucks. Oh, and that's "Hibby's Shorter Titled Thread." -- not that it matters. If it can't be what I wanted, then I'd settle for Hibby's KMA Thread. :D
Oops, I'll have to add that to my confession list tonight. LOL
Alrighty, I was going to lift shoulders/glutes early today with Pam but have been feeling queasy this morning. Later, I'll do shoulders/chest/tris on my own. :p
Other than that, it's carpool, little B to the eye doctor, and then to the State Fair. Woohoo! Big B hates the Fair, but I love it. So many interesting people, stinky animals, and wonderful food choices. :D

Hiya Lisa! :) Sorry -- I'll resist the urge to change it to "H's" -- I mean, I need to get over it already! LOL It's the bcp's -- they make me crazy. School starts January 9th. I sent my "Proof of Residency" form out today so they don't charge me out-of-state tuition. I'm sure that would be a heart stopping tuition bill. In-state is bad enough.
I think radiology would be interesting, but maybe a little depressing. I wouldn't want to see bad stuff on people's films. Looking at it more positively, however, you'll see some great news sometimes also. Anyway, good luck choosing. I understand about the driving thing. At one point, I considered nutrition -- but the closest school is an hour away. No way am I commuting that back and forth each day.
Hey, I've been to your state once -- for the Indy. I saw all the people and was sure they had transplanted all the South Carolinians and Georgians to attend that sporting event. :D

I'll post Halloween pics if'n I ever get done. :) I'll probably wait and just post stuff from Halloween night.
I hope not, jag! :) My family has been telling me I've been moody and acting nutso since I started back on my birth control pills. I said something grumpy butt yesterday and little B said, "Mom, please stop taking those pills." :D It's so unlike me. I actually can understand if the long thread title was stretching out the screen all over the place how that would be somewhat bothersome. I also don't generally go honking and acting crazy back at the crazies out in the world. I hope I don't end up in court somewhere saying, "Your Honor, it was PMDD. It's not my fault he/she is dead. Out of body experience, I tell you." :D
Oh, here's something just normal. Little B likes me to read books he's enjoyed and his latest offering was a book titled "The Giver" that was required reading in middle school for him. I'm really enjoying it. :) Have any of ya'll read it?

LOL, that wasn't me going into radiology, Nuc. :) Little B's hair dye name is stolen from you apparently -- Nuclear Red.
Okay, I have a headache from reading USC's forms. Yikes! I don't miss all that. Anyhoo, I think I've figured out that I can apply straight to the Journalism School's graduate degree program and not have to reapply as an undergradaute. They will determine how many undergraduate courses I will have to take and I can take these as I'm taking graduate courses also. Cool beans. The kiddies I'm surrounded by won't be quite as young. :D
I'm going to go jog in about 30 to 45 minutes. Yuck.

I read this last year mainly to make sure it was ok for my daughter (then 7th grade). It's a little dark, but she didn't seem bothered by it.
Hibiscus09
10-13-2005, 01:12 PM
Thanks, dbfl! :) I'm finding it interesting and am enjoying what I've read so far. I enjoy Anne Rice books and some of Stephen King's, so I haven't quite thought real dark yet, comparatively speaking. It is a little creepy -- the concept of a utopian society. I wonder how much children in middle school read into it all? I'm enjoying the part where The Giver is transferring memories to the child who has been chosen as The Receiver. I'm amazed at what people come up with to write about as far as creative writing is concerned. I remember when there was such a bru ha ha about the Harry Potter books around here. You'd of thought kids were going to go straight to Hell that read those. LOL I read the first book and gave it the thumbs up for little B. He's older now -- 15 -- and enjoys all sorts of different books. I think his latest read is the most recent book in the Dune series.

LOL at Harry Potter. I tried, I really did, to read those books but they bore me to tears. Not my genre at all. I had an acquaintance who was astounded that I let my kids read them -- she felt they were the epitome of sin. I figure my kids are pretty secure in themselves and their faith and no book can undo that.
My daughter really liked the Lemony Snicket series, which is terrific. Very sardonic humor but still appropriate for kids (but grown-ups can enjoy).

Brian, Jr. loved the Lemony Snicket books. :) I thought the movie was pretty entertaining also.
Okie dokie. My family thinks the "." title is hilarious. :D
I finally did go to the gym and run on the treadmill today. I'm amazed I'm getting my workout schedule done as I seem to be dreading it so much lately. I put off running until 4:30 this afternoon. I had to go then as Brian, Jr. needed to be picked up at 5:30 from crosscountry. Anyway, yay me. I did it. :)

Warmup 5 minutes
Jog 6 minutes at 5.8mph and 1% incline

Walk 3 minutes at 4.0mph and 1% incline
Jog 6 minutes at 6.2mph and 1% incline
Walk 7 minutes at 4.0mph
Cool down
Next, I'm going to put on some jammies and watch "Survivor."
I have lots to do tomorrow. I need to do legs, and get my toes polished to match the dress I'm wearing tomorrow night (burgundy), and I would like to find some jewelry to go with it at "Handpicked" but if I don't have time I'll just wear my regular jewelry. I need to do laundry also, but we're not leaving until about 6:30pm. Dinner is at 9:00pm.
Ooooh, oooh. I went to Express today to get Brittany a gift certificate for her bday and guess whatie? They had shirts on sale that were regular from $29.95 to $59.95 and guess how much they were selling them for? Freagin $5.99. Me likey!!! I bought 5 new shirts for hardly any money. They're purty shirts. Such excitement. :D
Okay, that's all.

Busy, busy. I'm going to do a prebreakfast walk to repent for my wayward ways lately. I have to go to dinner again tonight -- Britt's bday -- and am sure I won't be eating that well at the fancy restaurant. I did notice they have Ahi tuna, and I love rare tuna steak, so perhaps I will go that route.
So, walking, toes painted, get a necklace and earrings to go with my dress, leg day, laundry, etc. Ooooh, and take the dog to the kennel. Almost forgot that one.

Ohmigosh another thread Hibby ... ROFL ... your toooooo funny!!!
Your younger days at school sound very similar to mine but at least you redeemed yourself later on ... I'm still to do that, one day maybe. Who knows?? But anyways great decision to go back to school and good luck in your new educational quest. I know you'll do well and those lucky enough to be in your classes are going to have a blast getting to know you!! :D
What a cutie your 'little Britt' was ... I love the photo's, thanks for sharing. She's turned into a real stunner .... I can see why your so proud of her. That photo of the pair of you is gorgeous. Your hubby is very lucky to have two such beautiful ladies in his life!!!
So your now training for a run .... does that mean no figure comp next year??
Anyways enough for now .... hope you have a great weekend.
Cheers
Grace
P.S. Workouts look great as per normal!! I see Pam is still torturing you somewhat  OUch!! Just curious ... so has your training been adapted for your run??

Hi Grace! Thanks about Brittany. She's always been such a pretty girl and she's real sweet also. Ummm, I don't know about the figure contest. I kind of doubt it as once I immerse myself in school, I tend to be just a tad bit obsessive -- if you guys can believe that one. :D I really haven't done much as far as changes go to accomodate my run. I'm still lifting the same. I may go to a 3 day split, and run the other 3, and rest one. We'll see what works out with my schedule.

Hibiscus09
10-15-2005, 07:06 AM
Thanks, GF. :) I've been taking them since I was 20 years old, so if they're killing me they've probably already done it. Anyway, no family history of anything but cancer, so that will probably take me out. I plan on stopping them anyway. I hate the things.
Oopsies, Chi -- as a matter of fact, I didn't make it to the gym.
This is a clear sign I need to take some time off: I got dressed, went to the gym, warmed up for 15 minutes on the bike and the entire time the little people in my head were saying, "You don't want to be here. You're not in the right mindset to do legs. Don't you want a pretty necklace and earrings to go with your dress tonight? I know you do." :D I listened to the little people, headed to "Handpicked" and bought a pretty necklace and earrings to wear out to dinner, got dressed and headed to Charleston to celebrate Britt's bday.
Oh, and I took pictures of last night. We had such a fun time. I'll post them when I get home on Sunday evening. The restaurant was excellent! I had a portobello mushroom appetizer -- they were on toast points and goat cheese. Yummmmm! Then I had rare tuna, rubbed with wasabi and encrusted in some kind of light bread that sort of seemed like phyllo bread with a little bit of sweetness. I also had 2 glasses of wine with dinner. Then, when it was time for dessert, I opted for Bailey's & coffee with a huge dollup of homemade whipped cream on top. That's all it takes to make me el drunko and I actually felt a little throw up-ie later, but it was fun while I was doing it! :D
I let my sisterinlaw and her daughter stay at our beach house last night, although we never saw them. Her daughter plays basketball and they were busy, busy. Unfortunately, she left me this cute little jack-o-lantern candy dish with her thank you note, and 3 bags of Halloween chocolate  I haven't opened those, thank God.
Anyway, I think other than running, I'm going to take some time off. Maybe a week. I really need to get my house in order for the holidays -- inside and the yard. So, it won't really be a rest week I suppose, but it will be a clear my head week. I also need to call a couple of former professors and go visit them to see if they remember me and try to talk them into writing letters of recommendation for my graduate school application. That should keep me busy next week.
Today, it's going to be absolutely beautiful! Sunny, about 80 degrees, and low humidity. We're heading out to golf at The River Course at 1:00. I haven't golfed in a year, so that should be entertaining.
Ya'll be good!

Oopsies ? LMAO.....ok, now I have heard everything.
Sounds like some time off from training is just what you may need mentally. Take that time off and don't even think about feeliong guilty.
Enjoy your day golfing. I am sure we'll all see the highlights of your proAm round on ESPN. ;)
What a mouth watering dinner that sounds like.
I have a thought about those letters of recommendation. Since you've been out of school so long, there may be a way around that. If it was me, I'd contact USC's admissions office & talk to the director or asst director. Stay away from the front line clerks. It may help to go in person. Explain the situation & ask if it would be OK to have someone who currently knows your character write the references. There is often some leeway on this point. You are a character aren't ya?
Besides, who's kiddin' who? Do you really expect to find your old psych teacher strolling on the beach?

10-15-2005, 02:13 PM
LOL, joed! That's what I plan to look like and be doing at that age. :D
I may do what you suggested. I know a few of the professors would remember me, but they could only attest to the fact that I earned a grade of "A" in their course. They don't really know me and I'm sure go through so many students, it becomes difficult to remember specific things about a particular student after a few years. My Latin professor would be the most likely to remember me as she considered me a project, I believe, and thought it was fun to give me advanced readings aside from what she was assigning in general. Fun, fun. I think that's when I started drinking wine. :D
And, yes, it's safe to assume I'm a character. :)
I enjoyed golfing today. I stunk at golfing as it's been a year since I've golfed, but my play was picking up for the second 9 and I was hitting my 3 wood very nicely. I also played well with my 7 iron and putter. Yay me.
Watching football now. :)

Next, it's packing up and hitting the road.
I jinxed some football teams yesterday. Oh -- and dbflgirl -- I take it back. "The Giver" was definitely dark reading --especially for middle schoolers. Why don't they give those children some happier reading? I told little Brian last night -- "Hey, they freagin died." He said, "No, they didn't! They went to a happier place." I figured after freezing and starving and the way it ended, that happier place was delirium on the way to permanently checking out. Maybe I'm a negative person. LOL

Found this at Lois Lowry's website, in the FAQ (http://www.loislowry.com/faq.html):
What happened at the end of THE GIVER?
I made the ending ambiguous on purpose. "Ambiguous" means that it can have different explanations. I like to leave it that way so that each reader can use his or her imagination and decide what is happening. But I do think it is a happy ending.
********************
The irony here for me is that my husband always accuses me of being a pessimist, while maintaining that he's an optimist. But in this case, we have our roles reversed (probably because I am too much of a wuss to imagine an ending where kids die).

Bullet, I can see where that would be a problemo. :) Here, snow is fun because we hardly get any and when we do, we head out to build our snowman, then the snow melts by afternoon or at least by the next day or so. :p I wouldn't enjoy snow if it involved shoveling the driveway. Yuck.

LOL -- my thread has been attacked while I've been sleeping in on late start day. :)
Ummmm, sex that I have is VERY cardiovascular. Maybe that's why I never put on much muscle -- so much cardio going on!! ;)
It's another beautiful day in the neighborhood -- 54 and sunny right now, but heading into the 80s for the afternoon.
I've finally made it out of my bedroom, bathroom and closet and get to clean the downstairs today. Woohoo! Fun, fun. I need to grocery shop, and I'll go to lunch with my sweetie.
That will fill up my day.
Live long and prosper.

Okie dokie -- I'm getting a lot done during my week off from lifting. I finally have some extra energy to do stuff. :p I've cleaned today and grocery shopped. And I bought a real big, purty pumpkin that I need to carve tomorrow. :D Right now, I have cabbage rolls cooking in the oven. It smells delicious and the filling is quite tasty as I've already taste tested that. Yum. :D The only downside is I'm one messy cook and I have to clean up the disasters when I'm done. I have always been a messy cook and I don't measure stuff and toss all sorts of stuff into whatever I'm cooking. It tastes good, but I wish I could wiggle my nose and get rid of the mess.
Ya'll have a lovely evening. I'll jog tomorrow again. :)

Hiyas jag and GF! ;) Hope you got some for Hump Day. :D
Hi Brenda! :) Thanks for visiting. Happy Thursday!
Valerie, I'll post what was in the cabbage rolls (and amounts -- some may be guestimates. ).
1lb lean ground beef
large cabbage leaves (I made 6 rolls)
tomato sauce (I dunno -- I suppose about 6 to 8 oz.)
stewed tomatoes
oregano
basil
garlic
parsley (I just keep shaking the spice containers and taste test)
one yellow onion
two celery stalks chopped
1.5 cups cooked brown rice
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons sugar
salt
pepper
Preheat oven to 350. I boiled the cabbage leaves for 8 minutes, and cooked all the other stuff together. Drain the cabbage leaves and allow them to cool a bit, then fill with mixture, folding the leaves around it and secure with tooth picks. They looked like alien pods or a cabbage patch doll about to be born. :D Oh, and for the onion I used spray Pam to cook them until golden. The original recipe suggested butter. I also used spray Pam in the baking dish. Once I put the alien pods in the baking dish, I covered them with a pasta sauce. :) You could just as easily use a Classico sauce or something to save time, but I used:
Sauce
2 cans stewed tomatoes (DelMonte Italian Style)
1/2 jar sliced mushrooms (drained)
1/4 cup sun-dried tomatoes
a little basil
a little parsley
2 cloves minced garlic
salt and pepper
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
Then, I baked the concoction (loosely covered in tin foil) for 45 minutes in a 350 oven.

Hibby,
I have my Mother's recipe for stuffed cabbage, and it is more of a sweet and sour recipe. I'll have to look for it and see if I can post it.
Also, instead of par boiling the head of cabbage, you can also freeze it, then let it thaw out to work with the leaves.

Hiya Lisa! I'll post him, but I don't know if I'm allowed. We'll see. LOL
Here's what I have in mind for today's workout. I'm just experimenting -- trying to entertain myself with my workouts:
Back and Chest
A) Bent Over Rows (10 sets X 10 reps each) -- 4/2 tempo -- 90 second rest
A) Incline Dumbbell Presses (10 sets X 10 reps each) -- 4/2 tempo -- 90 second rest
B) Wide Grip Pulldowns (3 sets X 12 reps each) -- 3/2 tempo -- 60 second rest
B) Pec Dec (3 sets X 10 reps each) - 3/2 tempo -- 60 second rest
I've never done anything like this. Should be interesting. They do discuss supersetting in the article I found on GVT, but I'm not sure what I'm supposed to superset? Maybe the A exercises, since there's a 90 second rest interval? I'll try that.
I'll probably end up going too light today, as I have no idea where I should start weightwise. Whatever. Feel free to comment or tell me I'm crazy, if needed.
Here you go, Lisa. I mean, DAMN!!:

Man -- they should call this German Volume Torture!! I about died today. Plus, my wrists went numb towards the end of the 10X10 portion of this workout. I was using the overthumb grip like I'm supposed to, and they still went numb and I swear they looked swollen. My forearms were aching. I had a hard time even doing the last two exercises in this routine. Whine, whine, whine. :D
Bent Over Rows supersetted with Incline Dumbbell Chest Press
Bent Overs
45lbs for first set of 10, then 65lbs for last 9 sets of 10
Incline Press
20lb dbs for first set of 10, then 25lb dbs for last 9 sets of 10
Yowie. I want my mommy.
Wide Grip Pulldowns*I could barely do these due the numb wrists. I couldn't hold onto the bar. :p
75lbs/10 reps
80lbs/10 reps
80lbs/10 reps
Pec Dec
84lbs/10 reps
96lbs/5 reps, 84lbs/5 reps
72lbs/10 reps
I was fried.
That's all. It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Going to lunch and then shopping.
Oooh, oooh. I forgot. My gym bought spinning bikes! I begged the owner dude to let me go take training to become an instructor. He said he would keep me in mind. I really wish he would but I dunno if he will or not. I wanna.

Now, it's up to you guys to make sure I get my ass back in the gym next week and clean up my diet!!! Get to work yelling at me! :D
Hi someday! :) Thank you! We tried something new at Godiva Chocolate while we were out and about in Charleston. They had skewers with a slice of banana and then a strawberry all down the skewer. It was all dipped in dark Godiva chocolate. :D They were yummy!
Hi batts! Brian breaks down every once in a while and gives us a money lecture, but usually he just acknowledges that the situation is hopeless. :D

Happy Halloween, jag!! Maybe one day soon you'll wander in and find a workout posted!! :D Not today, though! LOL I've spent the morning finishing my grad school application and at the University meeting with two former professors. Fun, fun. It's 70 and beautiful outside and it was kind of nice being back on campus and seeing people I haven't seen in a while.
Next, I'm mixing together chili and putting it in the crock pot and cleaning house preparing for the inlaws visit tonight. Plus, I have to do carpool and dress up as a bat. Busy, busy!!!
Hiya Lisa!!
Happy Halloween everyone!

I had the cutest little girl (around 3 or so) come running into my house tonight. She was a princess and she came running into the foyer saying, "Look at all the decorations!" Then she went up my stairs halfway and sat down beside my stuffed witch and started hugging it! Her dad had a time getting her back out of my house. :D

Okie dokie -- I hated my GVT day I tried out, so I figured I'd give a quickie read of Chad (?) Waterbury's program that dbflgirl and others were discussing -- a real quickie read (LOL), so let me know if I did it all wrong. :p
I tried to guestimate 80% of my max, but since it's been 3 weeks plus since I did leggies, I decided not to try to pull something.
Machine Squats70 second rests
200lbs X 10 sets of 3 reps each
Superset Bodyweight Dips with One Arm Dumbbell Rows60 second rest between supersets
Dips
4 sets bodyweight X 6 reps each set
Dumbbell Rows
4 sets of 6 reps each -- 1st set 30lbs, next 3 35lbs (30 was too light)
Superset Skullcrushers with Standing Barbell Curls*60 second rest between supersets
Skulls
4 sets of 6 reps each -- 1st set 40lbs, next 3 45lbs
Standing Barbell Curls with Straight Bar
4 sets of 6 reps each -- 1st set 40lbs, next 3 45lbs
Hanging Leg Raises
4 sets of 6 reps each with 30 second rest* Okay, I don't get doing only 6 reps for the ab exercise and I only rested 30 seconds instead of the 60 suggested. I think abs need a few more reps than 6. I guess the idea is to add weight via a dumbbell perhaps?
Anyway, nice workout! My arms are numb. :p

Ya'll didn't do a very good job of yelling "YAY!" unless I just didn't hear you. I hope you were at least cheering in front of your computers and turning cartwheels. :p :D
I'm a little sore today. I guess I did a good job of easing my body back into exercise as I'm a little sore everywhere I worked. :D
This afternoon around 12:30 or 1:00, I'm going to get my running going again. I was kind of slack last week, but before that was on a run 10 minutes, walk 3 minutes X 3 schedule. I'll see if I can resume where I left off. I like that my neighborhood is hilly because it always makes my glutes sore when I run and I like working the bootay. It needs all the help it can get. ;)
It feels good to be back at it. I dropped 1.6lbs overnight, which was a good thing as it was all Halloween/chili/Mexican cornbread/sunshine cake/wine/chocolate bloat. :D
Ya'll be good today! We have mid to upper 70s and sunny throughout the rest of the week. Me likey!

LOL -- I am proud of you! Woo-hoo!! I guess I've told you -- my undergraduate is in psychology. I've applied to graduate school now, but not in Psychology. What was your project?
Okay, question time in Hibby's thread:
So on my little exercise routine I'm doing, one of the exercises listed is partial Romanian Deadlifts. I suppose this is different from a regular deadlift which I always did on back day? When I read the description is sounds a lot like a SLDL but with slightly bent knees. Does this sound correct?:
Romanian Deadlift
Primary muscles worked: glutes, hamstrings, erector spinae, traps, forearms
This is one of the most fundamental exercises for development of the hamstrings and lower back. Many people aren't aware that the hamstrings is a two-jointed muscle that acts on the knee and hip joints, and this movement targets the hip-extension action of the hams (which is neglected in leg-curling motions). It also enhances hamstrings/low back flexibility.
Proper execution: Take a shoulder-width grip on the barbell with your palms facing toward you or with a mixed grip. Stand erect with the bar in your hands; your feet should be hip-width apart. Pull your shoulders back and elevate your chest, and maintain this position throughout the exercise. Keeping a slight bend in your knees and your arms straight, push your hips back. Done properly, this will force your torso forward. As you push your hips back, allow the bar to slide down along your thighs; keep it close to your body, which makes control easier. Push your hips back until you've gone as far down as you can while keeping your back flat - for many people, the barbell should descend to a point just below your knees. Going farther could cause you to round your back, which is dangerous.
Reverse the motion and straighten up, pressing your hips forward. Repeat.
Common errors:
1) Failing to keep your chest elevated and your back flat. This results in a great deal of stress being placed on your lower back, which is never a smart way to train.
2) Locking out your knees, which also places unwanted stress on your lower back.
3) Bending your arms. Keep your arms straight to reduce arm involvement.
4) Lowering the weight too far, causing your lower back to round.
Anyway, it sounds exactly like what Pam has me do for SLDLs, except she prefers for me to lock out my knees on the movement. I only go down to several inches below my knees.
I guess my question is this -- is a Romanian Deadlift basically a stiff leg deadlift but with bent knees?

Okay, I just added this song to my MP3. I like all sorts of music, including country, and my favorite country artist is George Strait. I love this song. I wonder if he wrote it for his daughter? I believe he had a 13 year old daughter who passed away. Anyway, it's the sweetest song. Ya'll should listen to it. :)
Artist: George Strait
Song: You'll Be There
Lyrics:
Hope is an anchor and love is a ship, time is the ocean and life is a trip
You don't know where you're going, ‘till you know where you're at
And if you can't read the stars, well you better have a map
A compass and a conscience, so you don’t get lost at sea
Or on some lonely island, where no one wants to be
From the beginning of creation, I think our Maker had a plan
For us to leave these shores and sail beyond the sand
And let the good light guide us through the waves and the wind
To the beaches in a world where we have never been
And we'll climb up on a mountain, y'all we'll let our voices ring
Those who've never tried it, they'll be the first to sing
Whoa, my, my
I'll see you on the other side
If I make it
And it might be a long hard ride
But I’m gonna take it
Sometimes it seems that I don’t have a prayer
Let the weather take me anywhere
But I know that I wanna go
Where the streets are gold
‘Cause you'll be there
Oh, my , my
You don’t bring nothing with you here
And you can’t take nothing back
I ain’t never seen a hearse, with a luggage rack
So I've torn my knees up prayin’
Scarred my back from fallin’ down
Spent so much time flying high, till I’m face first in the ground
So if you're up there watchin’ me, would you talk to God and say,
Tell Him I might need a hand to see you both someday
Whoa, my, my
So I'll see you on the other side
If I make it
And it might be a long hard ride
But I’m gonna take it
Sometimes it seems that I don’t have a prayer
Let the weather take me anywhere
But I know that I wanna go
Where the streets are gold
‘Cause you'll be there
Oh, my , my
Cause you'll be there
Oh, my ,my

10 sets X 3 reps each with 35lb dumbbells -- 70 second rest
Superset SLDLs with Military Presses*His routine specified Romanian Deadlifts, but I altered his routine.. Because I can. :D -- 60 second rest between supersets
SLDLs
80lbs, 80lbs, 90lbs, 90lbs X 6 reps each
Military Presses
25lb dbs X 4 sets X 6 reps each set
Superset Seated Calve Raises with Upright Rows using EZ Curl Bar -- 60 second reps between supersets
Seated Calves
135lbs X 4 sets X 6 reps each set
Upright Rows
40lbs 1st set, 45lbs next 3 sets X 6 reps each set
Overhead DB Tricep Extension -- supposed to be a 60 second rest, but I think I shortened it up by about 20 seconds or so. I was ready to head home.
30lb DB X 4 sets X 6 reps each set
These workouts are hard. :p

Hi Hibby..in answer to your question about Romanian deads being similar to sldl`s..when you do romanian`s the hips will move forward and back with the bar close to your body and knees slightly bent which allows you to use more weight...the SLDL is more of a straight up and down movement...i prefer doing SLDL`s standing on a bench for better ROM and hamstring stretch over Romanians....

Okie dokie -- I've decided the average time a man stays around talking after asking the "Are you married?" question and getting the "Yes." answer is about 30 seconds. That's not the end of it, however. There's about a 2 minute thinking it over time they experience, then they decide to go for it anyway. :D Luckily, this guy didn't get brave enough to make his first move until I was on my 3rd set of walking lunges at the end of my workout. It's much less annoying that way. Plus, he was damn fine. He had these big blue eyes and gorgeous thick eyelashes. A nice smile too. Nice and trim in a Men's Health kind of way. :D That takes most of the annoyance factor away. :p
Chin Ups--70 second rest between sets *I did these with palms facing each other. I don't really like my club's machine for that hand positioning, however. The grips are slightly wider than shoulder distance apart and I like to have a more narrow grip for that hand placement. Oh, well. I did them the way Pam taught me and brought my elbows as close together as possible, tried to put my body as far forward as possible and initiated with my lats, and focused on my biceps also.
40lbs assist -- 3 sets of 3 reps
Bodyweight -- 7 sets of 3 reps
Superset Flat Bench Press Machne with DB Hammer Curls*60 second rest between supersets
1 set X 120lbs X 6 reps, 3 sets X 140lbs X 6 reps on Flat Bench
4 sets X 30lb Dbs X 6 reps each arm on hammers
Superset Wide Grip Assisted Pullups with Lying Leg Curls*60 second rest between supersets
4 sets X 40lbs assist X 6 reps each on Pullups *These were killing me by the last set
4 sets X 70lbs X 6 reps each on leg curls *Made sure to go all the way to my bootay and squeeze real hard at the top of the movement.
Standing Calf Raises*Waterbury's method suggests 4 sets X 6 reps for these, but Pam told me to do these higher rep and with alternating foot positions. I like how sore I get doing them the way she suggested. I'll work on increasing reps for these.
10 reps each in/out/middle, 10 reps each o/m/i; 10 reps each m/i/o
Walking Lunges*Again, Waterbury suggested 4X6, but I did 4X8 because I wanted to get to the end of the dumbbell rack. :D
4 sets X 25lb dumbbells X 8 reps each leg
Okie dokie -- had to head home after that because I'm ready for some football!!!! I'll probably walk the neighborhood tonight for cardio. I'm doing my long run with Brian in the morning.
Oh, and walking lunges just burn my forearms up. It drives me insane!!! Owie!! Damnit!!
That's all.
