Hiya jag! That's what PMS does to me. :D

I forgot to review The DaVinci Code. Ummmm, I give it a "B" at best. That was one slow moving movie. I guess the book was rather slow also, but my imagination worked with it a little better than this movie did. Anyway, it was so-so. I'd have rather seen X-Men again. :p

Next, we're watching the remake of "When A Stranger Calls." That should be intellectually stimulating. ;)

You are one sic puppy HIBS!!!!!!! :p

I have intended to see The DaVinci Code but everyone I spoke with ... was not at all impressed with it .. so I don't think I will bother! The book was okay ... but I certainly don't think it will ever be a classic!

Brian's bike sounds fab!!! How do you rate as riding partners?? Is this his first road bike experience???

Hope you have enjoyed a wonderful weekend HIBS!! :)

Hi Barb! I don't know how we'll be as road bike riding partners because mine is still in the shop getting a once over. :) It's supposed to be ready on Wednesday, but I'll start nagging them tomorrow to see if I can get it earlier. :p

We've ridden beach cruisers together for an hour and a half a pop and he's real good at pushing me. I tend to start daydreaming & going slower (or faster, depending on what I'm thinking about. ;) ).

Hope you've had a great weekend also!!

Hi jag and dbflgirl!

Okie dokes -- ran tons of errands today and think I have everything I need to head to Kiawah tomorrow -- I don't plan on coming back until July 5th. Yippee!! I called the bike shop and they're going to have my bike ready, so I can pick it up tomorrow. More good news. :p My high step finally made it here today, so I'll take it to Kiawah also. Cool beans and all that.

In the morning, I'll do prebreakfast cardio, lift, pack, pick up my bike, and get the Hell out of Dodge. Tomorrow night, Britto and I get to go make googlie eyes at Tim McGraw. :)

Wednesday, it's biking and my first golf lesson --then, the pool. Sweet! It better not rain!! :D

Hi Lisa! :) Happy Wednesday! I love Paul Newman, so I may have to go see the car movie also. Let me know what you think of The DaVinci Code.

Hi Barb! It was a very good concert. I much preferred Tim McGraw to Faith Hill (but, I love her music on CD). She kept saying things like, "Men, take care of your women." I guess there's a feminist living in me somewhere, although I like to think now. Stuff like that drives me bonkers! :D

Today starts my bike riding adventures. I'll report about my ride later today.

Brittany was a bad influence on her mother last night. :D I had three light beers and a Long Island ice tea. My head hurts!

Ya'll have a super terrific day! I'm off to a golf lesson at 11:00, then I have a bike ride & grocery shopping to do.

Hi Lisa! Sounds like great fun to me! :)

Hey Hoosier! You guys can visit me anytime and bring your critters along! I love kiddies.

Hi Gunn! I don't know if it's mini  -- I'm kind of green around the gills. :p I made it through the golf lesson -- she filmed me and stuff -- it was tons of fun!

Ooooh, oooh -- I have a bunch to do but I had to tell this story. So, I came home from the lesson and was thinking about my lesson, life in general (sex with Wolverine), etc. and not really paying much attention. I noticed I went over something in the driveway -- not with the wheels -- just under the middle of the Pathfinder. I noticed it right as I was going over it and didn't really see what it was -- but it was sizeable and I was thinking, "Was that a baby alligator?"

So, I get out of my vehicle and head around to see what was behind it & it was a huge snake! He was big and he had his head up in the air and was looking in my direction.

I backed slowly away from the snake and into the garage. I watched him a while, but when he started moving, I decided to close the garage door. ;)

That's all.

ha,ha jag -- if it had happened yesterday, I would have thought it was Satan hanging out in the driveway. ;)

dbflgirl -- he was brown with a pattern -- I doubt he was poisonous, but he didn't look like the black snakes or brown snakes I usually see around here in the yard -- plus, he was pretty darn big and had a head larger than his body. I decided it was best not to play with him. :D I'm hoping it was so big and fat from eating the damn moles in the yard. We have the traps that chop their heads off or spear them or whatever -- -- but it would probably be more natural if the snake just eats them. Yum, yum.

someday, I can be goofy about investigating. I don't know why I headed back there even if I did think it was a baby alligator. Usually, if there's a baby alligator -- there's a momma nearby who is not too happy if you get near her offspring.

Okie dokes -- my next mission is a bike ride. I'm tired today, but it's my own darn fault for partaking in too much alcohol at the concert last night, so as punishment -- I will make myself ride my bike 10 miles as per my schedule. :D

Luckily, I only missed one bike ride on my first week schedule (Tuesday's 8 miler) due to not having my bike from the shop yet. So, I'm not so far behind.

Ooooh, the Terminix man was just here and said he saw the snake and thought it was a copperhead. If I see him in the driveway again, I'm going to run over him with the car. My version of hunting. :D I read up on them -- they do eat rodents -- maybe that's why he's hanging out in my yard.

By your description of the snake, I would agree with the Terminix guy. A head bigger than it's body is usually indicative of a viper of some sort.

Okie dokes -- I finally rode the first 10 miles on my road bike for the MS150 training. I think I'll keep a running tally in my signature line.

If you've never been on a road bike, clipped into the pedals, it's hard to describe -- but I had forgotten how pitched forward it feels as the seat is higher than the handle bars. The dude at the road bike store told me when I picked up my bike the other day that mine definitely put me into an agressive position -- more so than Brian's -- and he feels like he's really pitched forward. Anyhoo, I made it and I'm alive and I clipped out just fine. :)

I'm not sure what tomorrow's ride is supposed to be -- I'll have to check the schedule -- but I'll be doing it early in the a.m. -- around 6:00 to 7:00 -- so there won't be a bunch of people/cars out there. Plus, the weather is much more pleasant that time of the day for wearing a cycling helmet, gloves, kotex shorts & the wonderful shoes that go with the clipless pedals.

By the way, I also grocery shopped, had a golf lesson, practiced what she taught me, and drove Brittany to Charleston today. Life always seems so busy! :D

Good morning all! :)

dbflgirl -- I can take a snake, but probably not a gator. :D

Okie dokes -- getting used to riding a road bike again. I felt more comfortable on the bike this morning, but Lordy it was windy. I rode half on the trails & half on the road -- depending on where I was on the island. A little girl -- around 3 or 4 -- almost took me out on the trail. She was so cute! She said, "Daddy, I almost hit her!" Ain't that sweet? ;) It was good practice getting out of my clipless pedals quickly. Anyway, iIwent 12 miles today as per my schedule and definitely need to work on average speed. I'm sure it will hop back up there shortly. It's a pain on the trails here, because they're curvy. (yeah, yeah)

Next, is eating something because I did that ride on an empty stomach & then Britt and I are going to sun our buns at the pool.

Oh -- and gross -- the dog threw up four times this morning -- once like a hairball and the other two times like freagin egg white slime or something. *barf* Then he went crap on the floor! Not acceptable. LOL I've put him in the laundry room and he hasn't done it sense. He's not feeling well, I suppose. I'll call the vet if he keeps it up.

ta-ta!

Mornin', Hibs! If that snake continues to be a nuisance, call local animal control and they'll come get him and take him to a safer home where he won't bother anyone. I wouldn't muck about too much with a venomous animal like a copperhead if I were you. Either that or feed the dog to him. :D

Hi Hib! Aren't animals far more fun than any human should be able to get away with? Our German Shepherd puppy (4.5 months old) was sick last week - nasty stuff. Cost us nearly $250 to find out that the doc didn't know exactly what it was, but that she probably ate a noxious weed. We were told to feed her a bland diet of rice and boiled turkey burger for a few days and then wean her back on to her high end puppy food. Well DUH! That's what I was going to do in the first place till someone suggested going to the vet (I will not name that someone...). Oh well, nice to know I'm helping someone make their BMW payment this week.

Alright, you finally are training for that 150. Awsome !
When you are not training, enjoy your time on the island, you earned it after that last semester in school. Is it true you are not going back ? A little birdie told me that.

BTW, how was your concert the other night ?

Hibiscus09
06-08-2006, 03:51 PM
Why do you only have 2 posts, MM? I'm sure you've posted more than that. :p Ummmm, yes I'm training for the bike ride now. It's fun being out early in the morning riding. I love the weather and being out in nature.

The concert was fun. I liked Tim McGraw a lot.

As for school. . . well, I'm giving it a lot of thought and discussing it with my family. I really do not like the program and don't want to spend all the time and money getting a degree in what basically seems to be business management. The only business I want to manage is my own. :D

Hi JT! :) Isn't that the truth. The last time I had Nicky's teeth cleaned it was $250!! I didn't even know dogs were supposed to get their teeth cleaned, did not know they put the dog to sleep to do it, and certainly didn't know the price tag. That will teach me to ask questions! LOL

Hibs, M and I are heading your way next weekend. I don't have the location yet. I bought a new toy to play with! :D

As for the snake, y'all have all the nasties we have and some we don't. A good rule of thumb is if it's head looks like a triangle it's venomous.

=M=
06-08-2006, 04:15 PM
Hibby, just as an FYI, $250.00 is about right for a cleaning, at least in this neck of the woods. I had to do one today that ended up being close to $500.00. That sounds like a lot but I had a huge extraction to do; it took about an hour! Then had to do x-rays to make sure the entire root was removed. It's a hard job when stuff like that happens. The main reason it costs so much is because veterinary medicine is becoming more like human medicine all the time, and we aren't governed by insurance companies. The state boards require that we make all surgical procedures as safe as possible, and the rising costs of drugs and equipment make it very diificult to keep prices low. The pet insurance is reimbursment only, and will not cover any pre-existing conditions. It often doesn't always cover routine procedures either.

Hibiscus09
06-08-2006, 04:24 PM
Hi M! :) I didn't think they were charging me more than what was normal -- I was just amazed to find out how much it costs. Holy moly. He says I should do that yearly, but it costs twice as much as it does to get my own teeth cleaned. :D

Hi GF! I'm at Kiawah, so if you guys head towards Charleston way -- I'd love to meet you! :)

Oh, and I really wasn't going to go looking for the snake -- I'm not goofy. We have an empty lot next to us here on the island and I think he's living over there in the woods. :p

Okay -- I ate healthy today, but didn't keep track of the numbers until tonight and it has come out to this:

Total: 1447
Fat: 41 370 26%
Carbs: 170 596 42%
Protein: 117 466 33%

I suppose that's okay while I'm cycling for now -- I'll up the carbs a bit if I do extra long distances. I ate lots of good food today -- had cantaloupe, an apple, olives, chicken, a salad, etc. Yum, yum.

Sweet dreams guys!

Hi MM -- thanks about Nicky -- he's all better now -- sleeping by my feet as I type.

Thanks, M! I think he's doing better. Nicky is a Shih Tzu and sometimes just regurgitates hair balls -- like a cat. I try to get him to quit licking his hair and he doesn't seem to do that as much as he used to. The first time he did it was in our back yard when he was younger. I thought "Alien" was about to pop our of his belly. He's our second dog and the first one was a while ago. I was just staring, wondering if there is a doggie Heimlich maneuver or doggie 911 or what in the world I was supposed to do! Anyway, it's icky when he does that. Yesterday, it went beyond that and I think his belly was just bothering him.

Morning all! I just ate and am going to head to the new fitness center shortly. I walked through there once when they first opened it and it appeared to be a ton of machines (I can't remember what kind -- I was just glad to see it wasn't those damn hydraulic machines) and a few benches and dumbbells. Why don't they ever put squat racks in these places? I guess people don't do squat on vacation. ;)

Anyway, I'm feeling kind of good eating healthy and not drinking wine. I guess I'll blame being a wino on Brian. He's always tempting me and buying wine by the case. He doesn't do that at the beach -- thank goodness!

Today is off day from riding & tomorrow is a long ride (for me right now) -- 20 miles, I think.

I'll report back in later after the workout.

Have a super fantastic morning!!

Okie dokies -- so, I liked the new gym. :) I can't remember the brand of the machines they have -- but I actually liked them -- kind of felt like Hammer Strength stuff. The view was beautiful while warming up on the fancy smancy treadmill -- a really long lap pool, the marsh & water. Plus, the treadmill had a t.v. on it -- The Today Show was playing, but I didn't turn on the sound.

After warming up 5 minutes at 3.6mph and 4% incline, I did my workout.

This machine was kind of like a bi-lateral pulldown, so I'll call it that -- can't remember what it was called -- something funky

12 reps X 70lbs
10 reps X 80lbs
10 reps X 90lbs

*Oh, by the way -- he was way too young (and, oops -- I'm married!) -- but nice eye candy -- one of the employees at the fitness center. ;)

Low Row

12 reps X 60lbs
10 reps X 70lbs
10 reps X 80lbs

Hyperextensions*Yay -- I love doing these and don't have one at my home gym. I'm going to get one, though, and a sissy squat -- one of these days.

4 sets X 15 reps each set

Incline Chest Press using Dumbells*This was too funny. I've been so slack & not so strong anymore, but everyone in this gym was using 8lb dumbbells or 20 & 30lbs on the machines. They looked at me like I was a freak of nature.

12 reps X 20lb dbs
10 reps X 25lb dbs
10 reps X 30lb dbs
6 reps X 35lb dbs

**Asked the dude if they had a pec dec -- nopesies. They have a funky cable looking set-up -- but, I wasn't in the mood to learn how to use it today.

Dumbbell Flyes

12 reps X 15lb dbs
10 reps X 20lb dbs
10 reps X 20lb dbs
8 reps X 20lb dbs

That was all I did today. I may actually frequent this gym regularly. :p Oh, and I stretched between sets like a good girl.

Live long and prosper.

Yippee! :) Did my 20 mile bike ride today -- first longer ride (longer for me, that is. ;) ). I'm still a turtle -- 14.11 average pace, but hey -- I'm just glad I finished. :p

According to Bicycle Magazine's computer, I burned approximately 628.53 calories on that ride -- it's all a guestimate because it depends on my weight, the weight of the bike, wind resistance, whether or not the ride was hilly, etc. -- but it's the estimate I'm going to use for this. I could wear my heartrate monitor, but if I put one more damn thing on my body I'm going to scare small children. :D

I did have a great day yesterday -- long bike ride, going to the pool, hit balls out on the range for an hour or so, then Britt and I rode to Charleston to go out to dinner with her b-friend, Derrick. We went to see "The Break Up" -- I thought it was cute until the very end. Dangit! :( We didn't get to bed until 2:00a.m. and then, I woke up at 8:00. I need more sleepy time than that! :D

So, today is golf lesson at 10:00 and instead of doing my ride, I may take a power nap and then head to the fitness center to lift something and do cardio there. We'll see. . .

I hope you guys have a very Happy Sunday!

Oh -- and rut roh -- my numbers went to Hell in a handbasket yesterday  :

Total: 1111

Rut roh -- I've done my golf lessons & my long nap -- but no exercise yet! :p I think I will get out there and do my ride, but since I've waited so long -- and it's hot as Hades outside -- I'll head out around 7:00, so I don't melt.

My lesson was fun, fun. I'm picking things up very quickly that she's showing me and what she's showing me is really helping with my little issues. She mentioned us doing a teach and play lesson, so I think after the next lesson, we may do one of those where she goes out on the course with me. Cool beans and all that.

Gunn, I don't know what it is about the heat that makes me less hungry, but I'm going to definitely have to get my nutrition in line so I won't bonk on the bike. Luckily, tomorrow isn't a riding day on my schedule so I won't have to worry about getting in so many carbs. Hope you've had a nice Sunday!!

jag, I haven't seen Mr. Snake since I warned him that it wasn't going to be purty if he brought his slinky ass in my yard every again. :D I'm meaner than I look. ;)

Brittany is taking a nap now -- this is a napping kind of place -- :p -- but when she wakes up, I may see if I can talk everyone into heading out for dinner later after my ride. :p

Hope ya'll have all had a really nice Sunday. I'm feeling super relaxed and I likey. :p

Well, I am. :)

I am an early riser today -- I've been sleeping too much. :p We decided to all head to the market last night and just make custom salads. I added some chicken to it when I got home and voila! That was easy supper.

I believe the gym, a bike ride and hitting golf balls are on the agenda today. I don't think we'll go to the pool -- I have a bit of a sunburn.

Oh -- and it's my sweetie's birthday today, so we have some celebrating to do! :)

Speaking of snakes... I think yours is visiting me. My husband and I were out for a walk on Friday night when we saw this big stick on the sidewalk. Just as I was about to kick it out of our way, it moved and hissed at us! Fearless hubby steered us into the street and away from the now moving stick.

eek.

Good job on the bike rides -- 20 miles would probably kill me. The most I've done is ~9 miles and that was 4.5 to the ice cream shop with my kids and 4.5 back :D

Have a fun time with your sweetie today!

 There have been so many critters so far while we've been here that I'm starting to dream about them. Last night, I had a dream that it rained and there were snakes, frogs -- even fish (LOL) on the roads everywhere. I was riding my bike and trying to steer around them. :D

I'm feeling a little queasy this morning. I think between Brittany's cold and the dog throwing up -- I've been diseased. Yuck! (or it could be the wine I drank last night -- pooey -- and I had been doing so well while here at Kiawah. Pooters. Pooters. Pooters!)

Thanks, GSC! :)

I've been blech/yucko all morning -- feeling a little green. I decided to head to the gym anyway and do shoulders/bis/tris.

I did 4 sets of alternating dumbbell curls -- 12 reps each -- then, I did 3 tri-sets of military presses, hammer curls and overhead tricep extensions -- 12 reps each, then I did 3 supersets of lateral & rear delt raises -- 12 reps. I finished it all off with 3 sets of tricep kickbacks -- 12 reps each. That was it. I need to conserve energy for birthday celebrating. ;)

Ya'll be good!

Good morning sunshines! :)

I woke up bright and early at 6:00a.m. while on vacation. Yuck. :p

I've now drugged myself well -- with about 16oz of java  -- and also had 24oz. of water -- I will have to tinkle on my bike ride this morning -- and next, is walking the doggie & heading out.

Luckily, today's schedule says an "easy" 10. I have no problems with "easy" (as far as bike riding is concerned. ;) :D )

I don't know what's on the agenda for the rest of the day. Perhaps I'll go to the gym and do some leg stuff. I imagine if I'm going to get any leg days in, I should do them on "easy" day with the bike or off day. Yesterday was off day and I was too queasy for it to happen then -- although I was a good girl and did shoulders & bis. I'm feeling much better so far today.

I saw this lady going down the road about 10 minutes ago with two dogs that were the size of ponies. They looked like St. Bernards in the face and Great Danes in the body. Anyway, if either of them decided to take off she would have been able to do nada. :D

That's all I can think to blab about so far today.

Ya'll be sweet and play nice!

Morning dbflgirl! Where's that "innocent" smiley when I need one?

Okie dokes -- started feeling a bit queasy again this morning. What's up with morning queasiness?

Did my bike ride anyway -- 14.2mph average pace -- slowly picking up. I rode with a paceline in the last MS 150 for about 30 miles at an 18mph pace, so there's more speed in me. It is a pain here with the trails, curves in the trails, debris, small children, etc. :D

I saw a big alligator today in the water. It's rather overcast, so I figured they'd be out. When it's terribly hot they tend to go underwater and hang out.

Since it is looking like rain is imminent (we got a lot last night), I think I'll go hit golf balls early today so I can get in some practice.

Oh -- and yesterday's nutrition tally was not purty:

Total: 1235
Fat: 34 309 25%
Carbs: 122 447 37%
Protein: 114 457 38%

Okay, so the local news is freaking me out. They keep playing this loud buzz and announcing that there's a tornado warning & talking about water spouts on the coast. They say we're going to get 35 to 45 mph winds tonight around 2:00 a.m. -- that should be lovely. It will keep me awake -- but I don't worry too much about the winds at that level -- but, they need to quit buzzing me with the scawy noise on the television. They also say to get away from windows -- this house has lots of windows. I guess it's to the laundry room! :D

The winds will be annoying, but won't cause much damage at those speeds. It's the twistas ya gotta worry about Aunty Em :)

Morning joed. Thank you, sweetie. :)

I slept in until 7:30 this morning and whatever went on last night did not wake me up. There are palm fronds everywhere in the yard, but I guess I won't bother collecting them until tomorrow as the wind is supposed to be in the 25 to 30ish mph range today, so more will be coming down.

I'm not going to bike ride in that wind and with all the road debris out there, so I'll go to le gymnasium later this morning after I've eaten and let it settle. I don't even know if they have stationary bikes in the gym, so I'll decide what cardio I'm doing when I get there. Other than that, I'm doing leggies. It's been a while since I've touched any leg machines, so this should be demeaning. :D

Thanks, dbflgirl! I didn't expect to be blown away but was thinking all the wind might keep me awake or knock out the electricity. Britto is a chicken and was freaking out making sure we had flashlights, candles, lighters, etc. Poor baby. She even considered displacing her father and sleeping in my bed (she's 21! :D ) but decided not when I told her there was no way Nicky (shih tzu) was sleeping with me. I apologize to all dog lovers out there -- but Nicky does not sleep with me. :p I bought him a bed. :) He has a bed. I have a bed.

I was just thinking while reading several discussions on low T levels in other threads about hormones in general. I have forgotten to mention in my thread how completely better I feel since getting off birth control pills about 6 months ago. I have not seen the PMS monster once since I quit taking the pill. I had always thought it was just me getting older & hormonal changes that was making me turn into a demon possessed person for about 4 days out of each month. It was starting to become an out of body experience for me. However, ever since I quit taking bcps (I've been taking them since I was 20 years old), the evil entity has left my body.

Hi GSC! :D

Okie dokes -- I went to the gym to do leggies -- surprise, surprise.

Their equipment is called Technogym. Here's a link -- see that cardio thingie on the first page?

http://www.technogym.com/gate_en/

I think it looks kind of cool and the gym has one -- I got on it and it felt like inline skating. Maybe I'll give it a try one day while I'm here. Today was not that day. :p Have ya'll ever seen one of those?

Warmed up 7 minutes on the treadmill at 6% incline and 3.8mph

First I did this leg press thingie

http://www.technogymusa.com/_vti_g7_prodSel.aspx?id=10&idg=1&rpstry=11724_

-- which was very comfortable -- but mucho different from what I'm used to for a leg press. Anyway, it's been months since I've been on a leg press, so I just did what I could:

10 reps X 100lbs
10 reps X 140lbs
10 reps X 200lbs
6 reps X 240lbs

Next, I did this leg extension -- again it had been months, but this machine was pretty comfy too:

http://www.technogymusa.com/_vti_g7_prodSel.aspx?id=11&rpstry=11724_

10 reps X 60lbs
10 reps X 80lbs
9 reps X 90lbs
8 reps X 100lbs

Next, was a hamtractor machine. I love hamtractors, but this thing just could not be adjusted correctly. It had a food adjustment and a seat adjustment, but the pad that is supposed to sit on top of my thighs (at my old gym) hit at mid shin and it hurt like hell as the weights got higher. Me no likey -- only did two sets on this:

10 reps X 60lbs
10 reps X 60lbs

*screw that. :p

I headed over to do SLDLs with dumbbells

10 reps holding 20lb dbs
10 reps holding 35lb dbs
8 reps holding 40lb dbs

Next, I did Bulgarian Split torture squats:

10 reps each leg holding 15lb dbs
10 reps each leg holding 20lb dbs
10 reps each leg holding 25lb dbs

That was enough -- legs were shaking and I felt queasy. Next, it's off to hit golf balls on the range.

Hibby you and your family are welcome in Colorado any time. We came to Colorado go school and decided to stay.

Perfect for riding? Well you certainly have a wide range of environments to choose from. You can start with a cold mountain ride in the morning and end with a flat hot desert ride by noon. One favorite MS150 route ends with a seven mile climb from the Arkansas River to the Royal Gorge bridge. What a way to end riding 150 miles.

Hibiscus09
06-15-2006, 05:00 AM
LOL -- well, I guess I meant perfect because been I've been there they have such nicely marked off bike lanes on the roads. In South Carolina, if there are any lanes at all -- and often there are not, they are wide enough for the bike tires, but not for the body that may be sitting on the bike. :D S.C. is not a very cycling friendly state. :p

That would be a rough way to end the MS150! Ours is about 20 miles of what you would call flats, but we call hills -- and then it's flat the rest of the way. Yay! :D

Good morning, everyone! My quads, hamstrings and glutes are all sore, sore, sore today. :p I have to do a 10 mile ride, so I may as well stop whining. :p

Fat: 35 315 29%
Carbs: 111 413 37%
Protein: 94 374 34%

Yikes and Jiminy Crickets! I'm usually a big eater, so I don't know what my problem has been down here. I'd best be paying closer attention. I'm eating breakfast this morning before my bike ride, so I don't fall over and get eaten by an alligator.

We just figured out our passports expired two months ago. We can renew them by mail, but have to head out to get new photos made today. Having a photo taken every 10 years sucks -- I'm always shocked by the 10 years of damage. :D

In my case I'll be glad when it's time to renew again. I'm surprised I didn't get denied boarding these past years due to the horrible photo on mine :)

Hi everyone -- I've been busy all day!

Hiya jag! :)

Thanks, Mike!

Okay, so I went to Charleston and hung out with Brittany all day shopping and stuff. We had to get passport photos made and, of course, clothes shop. ;)

I didn't return until later today -- I guess around 6:00 and did my 10 miles then. After that, I rode my bike on to the store to get a Greek turkey wrap (no dressing) because I was starving as I hadn't eaten since breakfast.

Now, we're going to watch some mindless television and go sleepy. :)

Well now, isn't that special? :)

Morning everyone! I was very happy to remember this morning that today is off day from cycling.

I do, however, have a golf lesson this morning at 10:00. :) I HAVE to clean house today, much as I don't want to. I tried to surprise Brian and blow off the driveway and porches (because Alberto left a mess), but I couldn't get the damn blower to start. I pulled and pulled that thing and couldn't get it going. Pooters.

What else? Ummmmm. . . . oh, yeah -- I'm going to the gym this afternoon to do back and chest.

Other than that, I think I'll chill.

Ya'll be good and HAPPY FRIDAY!!

LOL, Barb -- sadly, no -- a female. It's a darn shame! ;)

Well, my long ride was supposed to be 25 miles for this week and I went 10. :p I wasn't tired or anything -- just didn't do it. Luckily, Brian and Brian, Jr. have finally arrived at Kiawah and I'll have a biking partner this week. I do better with a partner -- otherwise I get bored.

Today is golfing. I'll be glad to actually be playing the game rather than hitting balls out on the practice range.

Morning, Hibby :)

What's on the agenda today?

Hibiscus09
06-19-2006, 05:51 AM
Good morning! Happy Monday!

dbx, is was perfectly acceptable to me. :p I've been getting plenty of bike time lately. I should have never started the running tally in my signature line. I have no idea if it's correct anymore. I'll have to look at my schedule. I know the first week of training, I missed the first 8 miler because I didn't have my bike from the bike shop yet. Other than that, I've only missed the last 15 miles of my long ride this past week. Anyway, I hate math and don't like to add, subtract, multiply or divide. :D

Hi Lisa! Vacation life is great! I feel so relaxed now. I'm really getting into my golfing too -- I could become a permanent golfing slug. ;)

Hi dbflgirl! On the agenda today is some sort of lifting workout this morning -- I think I'll do a lighter, higher rep leg routine. And around noon -- more golfing!

We went golfing yesterday and the weather was beautiful - mid-80s and sunny! The first year I golfed, Brian had me tee up the ball the entire game (to avoid frustration). I think that's a great idea for new golfers. Plus, we have a double par rule. If the ball isn't in the hole by then, just put it in your pocket. :D Then I took a year and a half off completely & did my contests and the first semester of grad school torture. Yuck. Now, I'm back at the golfing and after three lessons, am doing much better. I'm playing entirely off the ground and yesterday my score was as good as my first year teeing it up! Go me. :p

When it gets postworthy, I'll let ya'll know. :) That will probably be next year if I'm lucky.

Speaking of golf & since I'm blabbing away -- I was happy to see Ogilvie sneak the U.S. Open right out from under Mickelson's nose yesterday.

That's all.

Hibiscus09

Okie dokes -- rushing around late for golf. :p

This was a quickie today ( :) ), but the 60 rep sets made me nauseated. :p

Superset Step-Ups with Squat Presses

Step-Ups

20 reps each leg w/10lb, 15lb, 20lb, 20lb dumbbells

Squat Presses*Went really low and was dying doing this superset. Blech.

20 reps X 4 sets X 10lb, 15lb, 20lb, 20lb dumbbells

Crunches

4 sets X 25 reps on Swiss Ball

That's all I had time for, but it was a nice aerobic workout and my shoulders and leggies were burning because I was moving along so quickly. :p

Be good!

ChocoChick

What is a squat press? I'm always on the lookout for new forms of torture :)

jocularric
06-19-2006, 01:16 PM
SQUAT PRESS

How to do it .

* Place a barbell on Your upper back.

* Set your feet shoulder-width apart.

* Lower your body and push the bar up at the same time so the bar stays at the same height for the entire lift.

* When your arms are completely straight, pause, then slowly reverse the movement.

Did I get it right Hibby? Is this what you where doing? That's an impressive movement. You Go girl.

Hibiscus09
06-19-2006, 01:18 PM
I just rest the dumbbells on my shoulders and squat down as low as possible, come back up to standing position and do a standing Arnold press -- bring the dbs back down to my shoulders and I'm ready to squat again, and so on. . . :)

Man, it wasn't real bright doing that workout before I headed out to golf. My legs were okay, but my shoulders were achy!

Rest time. :)

LOL dbx -- I'll make sure to have my bike riding act together this week. ;)

Hi Mark! Yuck! Don't jinx me! :)

Hi GSC! You're a sweetie!

Okie dokes -- I'm so glad I don't have golf on the agenda today. I'm loving golfing, but my upperbody needs a little rest. I'm going to turn in my bike riding mileage today and if little B ever wakes up today, ask if he wants to go to the movies. Once school is out -- whenever little B can -- he prefers to stay up all night, sleep all day -- a vampire in training. :) Fortunately, he's on the cross country team so that schedule is not possible when we're in Columbia.

Britto went to an after-exam party last night at the medical school in Charleston and called to say she was staying there for the evening. She's a good child (21 years old now  ) and knows I'll spank her or put her in time out ( :D ) if she drinks and drives. She's really good about calling me to let me know where she is and what she's doing. Little B is the same way. I like children who report their whereabouts.

First day of summer is today! It's 91 and getting muggy as heck at Kiawah. That means Columbia (aka, HELL) might be slightly uncomfortable for a while.

Ya'll have a super-terrific Tuesday!!

Hi jag! Ummmm, I do have my camera here but not the upload thingie -- although, photos of me attempting Bulgarian split squats would be quite humorous. :D I do plan on getting plenty of pics in Las Vegas and in British Columbia. :p

Hi dbflgirl! I love to read also, but have always enjoyed going to the movies. It's so much fun!

Okie dokie -- Mr. Brian is going to ride bikes with me this morning. He's brand new at road biking and braver than me, because he put the clipless pedals on his road bike right from the get go. I had my bike for a month or so before I did that because it took me a while to get used to being in that pitched forward position. Anyway, there are tons of stop signs, curves, children, etc. on the trails here, so we're going to get out extra early to avoid them. We may just head straight out onto the road, although they ticket you here for that. :p Normally, I ride half trail/half road on my route as where I can ride on the road is a little bit down the road from here.

Anyhoo, I'm sitting here looking like a sleepy head and rubbing my eyes. :p

I'll report back in later when I'm more fully awake.

Rise and shine boys and girls!!

Woo-hoo! I always do better with partners to push me. We went 10.72 miles today at a 15.3mph pace. I've just been doing a 14.1 pace previously. Oh -- and all those 10 mile rides I've been logging have actually been approximately 12 miles -- I was doing my math wrong and my bike does not give me average pace. Math is always my downfall. :D Anyhoo, Brian's cyclocomputer does average pace for us. :p

Next, a golf lesson at 10:00. :D

Hi Flynn! I guess my thread is useless. :D

Hi dbx! What's a liger? Yeah, 65 degrees sounds good to me right now.

Hi Lisa! :)

Thanks, dbflgirl! I need it. My traps feel like they are balled up into knots. It's kind of painful. This happened the last time I started road cycling and lasted about a month. At that time, the bike shop gave me narrower handlebars and a longer stem on my handlebars. After that, it went away. Now, it's back. I think the top tube on my road bike might be too long for me because I'm shortwaisted -- long arms & legs -- like a monkey. :p Anyway, I didn't research well enough back when I bought my bike and didn't know they had WSD (women's specific design) bicycles. Plus, my bike is a Bianchi Eros and I didn't know (and sure wasn't told) that there is a Bianchi Eros Donna (ding, ding bicycle shop people) made for women.

Anyhoo -- it hurts and now I'm taking Aleve and stretching on my stability ball to try to make my traps feel better. Plus, I do the general neck stretches.

Okie dokes -- now that I've finished that whining -- here's today's workout:

I can never remember what this machine is called -- kind of like a biangular pulldown -- but it doesn't have a knee pad (just a seat belt)

15 reps X 60lbs
10 reps X 80lbs
10 reps X 90lbs
8 reps X 100lbs

One Arm Dumbbell Rows

10 reps each arm X 20lb dumbbells
10 reps each arm X 30lb dumbbells
10 reps each arm X 35lb dumbbells
8 reps each arm X 40lb dumbbells

Hyperextensions

1 set X 20 reps with bodyweight
3 sets X 20 reps holding 10lb plate

DB Lat Pullovers*Bad idea! Traps didn't like that at all!

10 reps X 20lb dumbbells

Straight Arm Pulldowns*Traps could deal with this exercise

10 reps X 20lbs **Don't you hate the damn machines that tame your ego? I can usually do 60 to 90lbs or so on this exercise, but it was definitely a no go on this cable apparatus!

10 reps X 25lbs
10 reps X 25lbs

Alternating Dumbbell Curls

15 reps each arm X 15lb dumbbells
10 reps each arm X 20lb dumbbells
8 reps each arm X 25lb dumbbells
6 reps each arm X 25lb dumbbells, 5 reps each arm at 15lb dumbbells

Machine Curls*another ego taming machine. LOL

10 reps X 20lbs
10 reps X 25lbs
10 reps X 25lbs

This ab crunch machine thingie that put resistance on your legs and on your shoulders and when you crunched you were hit with resistance from both ends.

20 reps X 30lbs
20 reps X 35lbs
20 reps X 40lbs
20 reps X 40lbs *That crap was hard.

Voila! Off to golf!

Hibs - the morning is the ONLY time to ride. I laughed about your heat index of 105 degrees. In Tucson - "we don't need no stinkin' heat indexes" - when it is 105 degrees, it IS 105 degrees! And the sun has no mercy. We're the skin cancer capital of the world. They test sunglasses in Tucson.

It is 85 degrees at 4:30 AM. The minute I see a sliver of daylight, I'm out of here on my bike. Figure by 7:00 AM it will be too hot.

So, get on your bike & ride - or I'll tattle on you at the "other" board!!

Hey Dogmama! :) NO tattling! :D

I did ride my bike this morning and did great! We headed out at 6:00a.m. and that felt wonderful as it actually felt a little cool -- yay for no humidity! And, ummmm DUUUHHHHH -- I can be such a blonde sometimes. I was trying to keep at Brian's cadence and realized I was pedaling at least 1.5 times -- maybe a bit more for his every rotation. Then, ding, ding, ding -- I figured out he was on the largest spoke. I switched over -- and voila -- like magic boys & girls -- I could go faster. LOL

So, today we did 26 miles at a 16mph pace. My max speed was 19.79mph -- so I'll take it. We didn't make it to 30 miles because Brian had a tee time. :D

Kiawah is perfectly flat, so I never thought to change my gears. Doy.

I actually felt like a cyclist a little bit today. I'm not sure what to do for fueling my rides, but today I had 1/2 an English muffin before I headed out (Thomas makes cool multi-grain English muffins with 8 grams of fiber!). Then, on the ride, I drank a bunch of water & half a Gatorade. Next, I'm going to have the other half of muffin with some Allfruit with a whey shake/glutamine/amino acids.

YAY!

Hope that works. ;) According to Bicycle Magazine's estimate, I burned approximately 875 calories.

Thanks, joed! :) I need to figure out how to do my nutrition while doing this cycling thing. The calorie burn will keep going up further.

I meant to tell you guys that yesterday when I was doing my biceps, the vein I had during my contest popped out all purty from my shoulder completely down and across my bicep. I didn't figure I was lean enough for it to be showing itself, but I think I'm leaning up a bit here at Kiawah. :)

Nope -- :) . I take creatine every once in a while, but don't want to while I'm doing so much cardio out in the heat. Plus, I just don't want to. :D

Happy Sunday all! I'm up at the crack of dawn again to go for a bike ride. My leggies are throbbing!

Morning everyone! :)

I'm so happy today is an off day from cycling -- my leggies are fatigued! Today is supposed to be leg day (ummmm, I see a slight problem with this plan), so it may be shoulders/chest/tris. I hate doing shoulders/chest together, but I'll just do shoulders first as they need more help than my chest. :p

Hope ya'll have a glorious day!! HAPPY MONDAY!!

Hi guys!

dbflgirl -- I just posted that this morning -- shoulders haven't gone yet. :p I think I'll do shoulders/hamstrings instead of what I previously posted.

Morning Lisa!

Hi Hoosier! It's difficult not to overtrain when training for this MS150 -- I just do what my schedule tells me to do. :p

This week's schedule is Tuesday - 10, Wednesday - 10, Thursday - 12, Saturday - 35, Sunday - 12 -- ;) It gets worse before it gets better. :D

We're expecting rain all week. If that happens, I think I'll just do the cardio equipment with televisions (LOL) at the Sanctuary Fitness Center. They have a cool inline skating machine I want to give a try.

I'm slugging it today. I just watched a special on "Sex and the City" and next, I'm going to eat meal #2, and then workout. It's looking like rain will be happening soon. I guess I'll take a break from hitting golf balls.

Be good!

Hibiscus09

Well, the weather has been sunnier than I expected today, but there is a Hell of a storm coming off the ocean -- looks like thunder and lightening is a brewing. ;) I'm going to go sit out on the porch and read (in a metal chair) until it gets here. LOL

I did workout today:

I supersetted standing military presses with dumbbell SLDLs -- 4 sets -- 20 reps on the SLDLs and 12 reps on the military presses.

Then, I supersetted 3 sets of side laterals and rear delt raises.

I then did 4 sets of 15 of hamstring curls using the stability ball. Those things burned!

I finished off with 4 sets of step ups -- 20 reps each.

That's it -- I'm a little PMSy today, so that was all I had in me. :p

Ya'll be good!

I don't know, Lisa. Brian, Jr. never learned to ride a bike when he was younger because he was ALWAYS on his scooter. Well, one day at Kiawah we put him on a bike to each him and he could ride immediately. Weird!

ha,ha Chris -- you may need the landscape setting to get all of me in the picture. :p

Good morning everyone! Happy Tuesday. It was raining a little this morning, so we set out and did our 10 mile "easy" ride on the beach cruisers. It was fun and we didn't have to worry about sliding around on the road on the skinny and smooth tires. :p

Next, Brian is heading out to golf and if it clears up a bit, I'll head to the pool.

Ya'll be good and have a fantastic day!

Oh -- and Brian, Jr. and I went to see "Over the Hedge" yesterday. It was a cute movie!

Morning, glories! :)

We enjoyed the pool yesterday -- I got a little sunburned. After that, Brian and I went out to golf 9 and I tried out a driver. I don't have a driver yet and have been trying out a few. They let me play with them when I try them out and they definitely improve my score. Anyhoo, I'm leaning towards a Cobra M Speed 12 degree offset with light flex. LOL -- how's that for bodybuilding talk? I can tell you having strong chest/back/leg muscles helps! :D

We've decided to take an entire day off today. We haven't had one in a while and the biking/lifting/golfing is starting to take their toll. So, today we are heading to Charleston to buy a driver for me & to see Superman. I love Superman. ;)

Ya'll have a super, duper day. My vacation time is almost over! Ohhhhhhhhhh nooooooooooo! We head back home on July 5th. Pooterville.

I'm about to head out to golf. I forgot to tell you guys that I did see Superman yesterday afternoon. I really enjoyed it! I stopped reading comic books as I got older, so I don't know how the story evolved in the Superman comics. Anyway, they did throw in a twist I wasn't expecting. I'm thinking there will be more Superman movies. :)

Morning children! :)

I turned in 34.1 miles on the bike today at a 15.6mph pace. Not too bad for a little girl. ;) I took powells advice and had some wheat toast with peanutbutter before I headed out. It was yummy and I feel like it helped. During the ride, I had a bottle of Gatorade, but I would have preferred Accelerade. After the ride, I'm having a protein shake with glutamine & have taken some amino acids. I don't know what carb I'll have yet -- but I'll have something.

Anyhoo, according to bicycle magazine, I burned approximately 1,200 calories  ! Good Lord.

I have developed quite a golfer's tan while I've been here and am planning on wearing halters and strapless dresses while in Las Vegas. Today, I'm going to the pool to try to even out the scary tan.

Be good!

Okie dokes -- we turned in 12 miles this morning and when I returned home, the clock said 7:54 a.m. There's something seriously wrong with me (I meant getting up early -- not the fact that the clock is talking to me. ;) )

Today, we're golfing. It seems I'm doing a lot of biking and golfing lately. I'll have to move to road bike and golfing forums. Perhaps, when we make it back to Columbia I'll be able to make myself lift 3 times a week. :D

... Little B has to get his wisdom teeth out on Friday. I've probably already said it, but I don't like that they're putting my baby to sleep...

I'm not sure about this, but I think that may just be a phrase that's used. It may be that they'll just give him something to make him relaxed, almost sleepy, but he'll still be awake when they're pulled. Getting way back in the mouth isn't easy & he may need to close or open his mouth more or less during the procedure to help them. The oral surgeon's assistant should be able to answer this question; tell her you're worried about it. IMO.

Hey Hib's, you're doing great on your bike. Did you say first and last MS150??

The life span of a road bike tire is directly related to the amount of karma you have built up. Of course, if the tire is completely bald, your karma points begin to melt away.
