someone previously asked about oatmeal measuring, and it led me to wonder, do you measure the rice you should eat before or after cooking?? I've assumed its before (seeing as how it expands) just wanted to make sure I was doing it right...btw its not instant its the kind you cook for like an hour on stove top..

On my bag of rice it show 1/4cup as a serving for nutritional information, but then in the instructions later, it says an actual serving is 3/4c cooked (at that same nutrtional info). At first I was like - Damn! 150 calories in 1/4cup?!

I am inclined to think (from personal experience) that maybe you measure after it's cooked? I had a "serving" (measured uncooked) of brown rice, and it took up half my plate! it was definitely more than the area of a deck of cards, which is what I read is a good guideline. I usually have about half a "serving" now because the full amount is too much to eat.

Measure ur rice after it is cooked. Check this kind of stuff on fitday.com if u are unsure of how many cals it'll turn out to be. A cup of rice uncooked is about 600 cals, when cooked it will expand from the water to about 3 cups, each cup of cooked rice will then be around 200 cals.

Rice doubles in size when it is cooked. So 1/4 cup is going to being 1/2 cup cooked.`
