I purchased a great Nautilus bench, adjustable 0-90 degrees with adjustable seat. The regular price was 279 and I got it for 210 because it has a small, length-wise 1" cut in the pad. Its about where the left side of your lower back would be. What would be the best way to 'repair' this in order to prolong its life?

One of two ways
1 .run a search for Vinyl Repair Kits on google or you can get one at a home shop or fabric store
2 .go for the tough guy look and use duct tape

i thought about the duct tape. does this really and truly hold it together and extend its life or does it just cover it up? how effective is it? also, ive got the bench in my den and a professional repair might be more acceptable to my better half. :)

You can get Black duct tape, it IS tough ****.
But you can take the pad off and take it somewhere for repair, probably cheaper to get a new bench. I'm not sure how tough the vinyl repair kits are.
