For my first show I had to travel to another country just because I wanted to compete in a natural show were the competitor would be tested. I did this because I'm 100% natural myself and because I thought I wouldn't stand a chance in hell at placing against our chemically enhanced bro's.

Have any of you natty guys and girls ever competed as a natural, completely clean and against competitors that were using drugs or in an untested show?

How did it go?

Were you way outa your league?

I'm asking because I will be competing again next year, once again totally drug free. The show will be in my country of residence were there isn't even a natural bodybuilding federation and there are absolutely no tested shows. My concern is looking absolutely crap compared to those that are juicing. I think I could still be proud for even trying but hey, it's not an ideal situation.

My first show was un-tested. And I was the only 100% Natural guy there.

Let's just say, it was a learning experience.

Hehehe. So what did you learn? Was it a nightmare or was it ok?

Well, being it was my first show, I was definitely "outta place" per say.

I also just happened to fall into the category that was the largest of the show as well as the most impressive.

Most of the guys I was up against were veterans whom have been champions of more then 5 - 6 shows each.

Lol. All it was, was a learning experience. I know what tanning tools to use next time, I know what techniques not to do the last week.

And I know to improve on posing.

And most of all, I know to compete with naturals untell I feel I can take on the un-naturals.

Okay, thanks for the reply. My next show will only be my second show but I've come a long way since the first. Unfortunately it will be "compete against enhanced athletes" or don't compete at all it think. Cheers buddy.

The sport of bodybuilding is all about fun to me, I enjoy improving my body and living a healthy lifestyle. I also enjoy being in an elite group of individuals. The first show I did was an NPC show, I jumped into the novice class. It was an awesome experience and learned so much about how everything works. Yes, the class winner was not natural. No, I don't care. Its a personal goal, look better than last year, always improve your physique and look better. Its just a goal, just a sport, just for fun to me.

I am a 100% lifetime Natty and have competed in "Un-Tested" shows. I'm usually the "smallest" in my class but still manage to do very well. Just show up and do your best and don't worry about your competition. Every show that I've done I've had the same goal.. Come in better than the previous show! :-)

Good Luck to you!

Hi teezlr,

Sounds like you have good attitude towards the sport. I eat, breath, live and **** bodybuilding. Yeah, I do it for fun but its definately not a hobby for me its a way of life. I share your goal of looking better than the last show but I'd just like to know that I was beaten by a guy that worked harder than me and not because he had extra help from drugs.

Great question Steve! I hope this thread gets a lot of responses. Also, congratulations to all of you who have made amazing transformations with sheer determination and hard work. Keep up the great work! T

i competed as a natural at USAs. I don't think you should worry about placing or beating guys that aren't natural. The biggest competition is with yourself.

I would think the different classes would help you feel less left out. I thought about going far once for the INBA up here in Canada, then someone told me "if you'd compete home, me and a lot of other friends would cheer for ya". Don't know about you but me, it kinda made me think.

I've done natural organizations and also compete naturally in NPC untested shows (I usually compete as a lightweight...under 154 1/4). I never have a problem. I think in the lighter weight classes you get less drug use anyways. Not a lot of guys doing drugs are going to be weighing in at 150 pounds...LOL.

Yeah, I guess there would be less chance of guys weighing 150lbs or less that use drugs. As you progress in the sport and gain more and more muscle weight then you are going to end up weighing more at the time you step on stage. My goal is to always weigh more in stage condition than last show.

I plan on doing several tested as well as untested shows this spring. As a LHW I will certainly be competing against others who used anabolics in there preparation......however my focus is competing within my self, so really doesnt matter where I place in those contests

Yep, sounds like a plan. My next show will also be against those that have used anabolics. It just seems a shame to me that individuals who have the dedication, knowledge and dicipline to be natural will fall short to the larger, more muscular drug users.

Steve,

I have done both. I did the Mr. Indy for many years. In fact, I was a goal of mine to win this untested show 100% natural, but I could never do it. 2nd was the best placing I achieved. Finally, the ABA started holding a natural show here close to my home, so I decide that I would only to do it. I got tired of busting my ass to be beat by someone with an unfair advantage.

That being said, if there were not tested show close to my home (within 3 hours), then I would do an untested show. Just realize what you are going up against. You like me are taller, which makes it even more difficult because you need carry much more muscle to compete against those guys.

Do your best and take PLENTY of pictures. Then you can compare with your last contest. As long as you see improvement, then you are a WINNER!

Oh yeah, don't forget to share those pics with us!

Take care my friend.

Steve,

Thanks buddy. You too.

By the way, don't worry TOO much about size. You still have to get into GREAT shape to have a chance. Particularly, if the show is not tested. I think you did a great job for your first contest!
