Well, Im goin for it. I went on atkins 6 years ago and lost 30 pounds the first month. Kept it off pretty well but now 2 years into college, lots of beer, i have gained it back plus 10. A lot of that has just been growing and muscle but I need to loose some pounds and the low carb lifestyle fits me. My current weight is 210-215
Goal: 185-190
I have been basically keeping my carbs under 20 per day for the last 4 days and still haven't fallen deep into ketosis :(.... I was slightly purple a few days ago but now i don't get any purple and don't really feel like im in ketosis except the ocassional metallic taste in my mouth.
I will keep logs of all the stuff I eat... I plan on working out again soon but I am really just focusing on the diet til i know im in ketosis
TODAY:
Breakfast (9:30 am)
2 third pound beef patties
2 whole eggs
Lunch (2:00 pm)
1/4 pound ground beef
4 whole eggs
2 ounce cheddar cheese
I will add later... Any help is appreciated. Should i add some cardio to get me into ketosis?

4:00- DIet green tea lipton drink, Baked chickn thigh
7:00- 1 lb ground beef, 1/4 cup spinac, 1 cup cut green lleaf lettuce, 1 egg, 2 tbs parmessian cheese, 3 tbs onion (Made a good meatloaf)

Lunch: 4 piece baked chicken, coffee
Dinner1: 1 lb ground beef, 1 egg, 2 tbsp onion, 1 oz cheese

Today was hot wing day for me :) yumm.. Ate a whole bag of em during the day dipping in ranch. Guessing about 12 grm total carbs...
10 oz. pork sausage, 4 eggs, 12 oz backstrap beef also... yummy day
Mood is great, gettin a few headaches but i dont think its from keto...
still in purple though barely. I'm hoping to get a darker reading with increased workouts.

I had to click your log when I saw the title. I've just recently become addicted to that show..... (sshhhhhhh, don't tell anyone!!!)
My keto sticks never give a reading darker than the first slightly pinkish level. Trace. That's where you want it to be. If it's any darker than that, it means your dehydrated, which is obviously bad.
I think the best way to judge whether or not you're in ketosis IS just the feeling.... taste in your mouth, smelly pee, and just that keto feeling.
I wish you lots and lots of luck!! I started keto a while back, then fell off the wagon for a while, and now I'm back on it and I don't have any plans of straying.
Do you keep track of your calories? I tend not to, because it's kind of a pain in the butt, but at some point I may have to start. If you feel like you're not making the progress that you should be making, try counting calories for a week and make sure you're getting the proper macros.
My approach for now is just to avoid carbs like the plague and not stress to much about calories.... but at the same time not just eat like a wild hog!

People out in the "real world" look at me crazy when I'm eating with them and just picking meat out of a sandwich or just eating anything keto friendly when I'm at school. It's pretty obvious that I'm not eating carbs and everyone has something to say about it. "ohhhh, you need carbs" "what are you doing to yourself?" "that's so ridiculous" "you can't lose weight eating all that fat" It gets old and annoying real fast. Visiting this site is a huge motivator for me.
Are you in Ketosis yet? Have you tried glucose disposal agents?

Yea i have been purple for about 8 days i think? Never heard of glucose disposal agents, wanna lemme in? Yea I like posting stuff on here too and the body stats thing is nice...
Update:
Today's diet was at 20g carbs total :) like always
Workout:
DB bench 3X10
Machine Curls 3X6
Machine tricept resistor machine 3X6
DB flys 3X6
LAt pulldowns 3X6
Then 10 minutes on the bike before it was poker time :)
Hows that look? I will add on but didn't wanna get too sore for the rest of the week since its my first workout in months.

I personally have used only chromium, and I felt like it got me back into ketosis faster after a carb up. I'm interested in trying the metformin the article mentions.

2 cups organic greens
2 tbs ranch
Meal 2. 12 oz new york steak with 1 cup greens
Meal 3. 12 oz new york steak with 2 tbs cream chees, 2 oz low carb cheese 2 cups greens
Meal 4. 1 oz cheese and 1/2 cup greens 1 chicken breast
Total Carbs: 18-20 PERFECT!
Workout:
Legpress 415 lbs 3X10 (OUCH)
Weighted seated Calf Raises 3X10
45 degree pully squats on machine... 3X6 each leg
Sitting leg extentions 110lbs ... 3X10
3X10 on the ab crunch machine
I was really tired after this workout and my upper body is sore from yesterday. I'm starting off easy to get back into my old routines but feelin good!

looks like you're on your way with food and fitness. : ) do you like fried/scrambled/poached eggs? they're also a great option on keto and go well with the rest of the foods on your list.
fitday.com is a great site with a free online food journal that will tell you how many calories you're consuming and if you're hitting your macros (esp fat grams on keto) near your target. i started using it to see what was/wasn't working for me in adding to writing things in my BB journal.

sorry about that - i scrolled back into your other posts and saw the eggs. : ) yeah i keep logging my food into fitday even tho i pretty much eat the same thing daily.

Workout:
3X10 hammer bench
3X6 machine curls
3X10 shrugs
3X10 tricept machine
3X10 millitary press machine
some cable tricept workouts
little ab session
15 mins on bike
DINNER
12 oz newyork steak with 1 oz cheese on top
1 cup greens
Don't think I ate enough yet today :(

Don't feel bad. It's better than the feeling that you've eaten too much!! Try drinking whipping cream at night with some sugar free chocolate syrup in it.
Or what I like to do is mix a little bit of splenda into some cream cheese, it tastes like cheese cake, kinda has an ice creamish feel to it, and a good way to get in the extra fat when you need it.

Yea i tried that cream cheese thing, it was very tasty! Cookin up 2 beef patties now for my 2nd breakfast so far... Im really sore all over, not sure if im lifting for the 3rd day in a row. I wish i could be as strong as i was in high school :(

Well I think I kinda messed up. I went to the tool concert and drank a few light beers and ate pizza last night. Then today I had some toast, and peaches for breakfast. For lunch i had chicken shrim and mashed potatoes. So that was a pretty dirty 18 hour carb up. I was outta town so I don't feel too bad but Im glad to be goin back to under 20 carbs a day now. Gonna buy a bunch of eggs and hamburger tommorow. Startin up a fitday.com log today also :)

Yea, I was in keto. After the carb up i don't feel as if I am today but thats normal right? Got my fitday goin and here are my stats for today so far:

Yesterday All I had all day was meatballs. The whole day had under 10 g carbs...
Today im at a
63:36:1 macro... Is that even better than having a 60:35:5

Ya, thanks. I just like hearing from others to make sure im on track. I think i really have a problem though. My macros are all spot on or better but I can't make myself eat. I always feel sick or full... I've been at like 2000 cals - 2500 cals a day lately and when i had my metabolism done, it said my maintanance calories a day is like 3500... Is it bad if my macros are good, getting workouts in but my cals are low? Or does that just mean i'll lose more weight :)

You don't wanna go too low on your cal intake and slow down your awesome metabolism and lose muscle. I say make yourself eat!!!
Try not to go 500 below maintenance.
I wish I could eat that much, I LOVE FOOD! (especially greasy ass food)
Where do I go to get my metabolism tested?

Well it was done by a machine and it was average for my size i think. It was just done at my school but u can have ur doctor do it or go to your local college campus if they have one.

No -- it means you'll hold onto what you have and lose muscle.....

Went off diet pretty bad this week... Not too worried.. Haven't gained much poundage. Planin on hitting it extra hard in the gym as well as gettin my diet in check this week :) Merry christmas
