At dicks I can get http://cgi.ebay.com/Marcy-sm4000-Our-Deluxe-Smith-Machine-Home-Gym_W0QQitemZ7129248568QQcategoryZ48848QQssPageNam eZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem for $299.99... The Question is, is it good? It looks sturdy and whatnot, but in my eyes all workout equiptment looks strong and good, and then I read stuff about some things being bad so I'd like to know before I buy

I checked out this same system used at Play it again Sports $399, I didn't like it the smith machine guides were low quality and the whole system seemed inferior to others I had been looking at.

Hey man, I've had that Marcy unit for about a year now. I have to say I had my doubts, but it has turned out to be a very good, economical all around unit.
It works well as a power rack and I'm sure it'll continue to handle any weight I can lift for the forseeable future.
The Smith machine part is not the best, but for a few hundred $ you have to expect that. It uses plastic bushings, not the super smooth oil filled metal type on the higher priced ones. I keep a can of silicone spray next to the machine and regularly lube everything. The action is very smooth if you keep on top of that.
I load the Smith with 300lbs+ for calf raises, shrugs etc., and it can handle that no problem.
I also use it for shoulder press because I work out alone in my basement.
The pulley systems are still going strong. No issues with the cables or actual pulleys. Again I keep those parts all well lubed.
The bench that came with it is decent enough, declines, inclines, and feels fairly sturdy. I bench with 225, and I weigh 175 and it supports that fine.
All in all I'd recommend it if your budget is tight and you want something real flexible. If you're really moving a lot of weight it may not be a good choice, but I think for most it'll work out well.
