The advert in the back of the magazine, (Muscle and Fitness) it was black background with some chap featured. To the right there was
" What a Better Body, better tips, more sex?" etc. etc.
Personally, I thought it was a little crass, those are an awful lot of promises,,, its a bit much. Sort of like those "penis ads" that evervyone just sort of skips over because no one belives them.
I think it would be better if you guys were just truthful,,, an add where you tell the readers,
" Hey,
What if there was a place where you could find and buy just about any supplement, a place where you could have access to thousands of articles covering every topic of fitness?
Wouldn't it be great if there was a place with more than 100,000 members?
Forums with over 500,000 Threads and 6,000,000 posts in sections dedicated to Nutrition, Workout Programs, Teen and Masters training, women's training, supplements, and even steroids?
A place where well known IFBB Pros come and interact with average guy (not sure about that one legally)? All at no cost for membership
With no fees or subcriptions required to acess it all?
Oh, yea, ,,, there is.

I have a sub to this mag and although I saw the BB.com ad in the January/February issue, it was by pure happenstance that it caught my eye.
I was just flipping through the magazine and literally passed right by your full page ad. The BB.com logo caught my attention, but I was already 2 pages away. That is when it registered and I flipped back to the page to see what was posted.
In the ad there are 2 muscular guys (Triple H and Ronnie Coleman), but the ad layout looked more like one of those "impress the ladies, go longer in bed blah blah blah" ads that I don't read anyways.
Not to mention that <pssst> this magazine is a basic mens magazine, it is filled with young, very scantily clad beautiful women. Why would you even remotely consider putting two men in one ad in this magazine?
It is in my humble opinion that you could have found atleast a few ladies from the Forums who would have been willing to participate in the advertisement and not only drawn more attention from the average reader, but also provided a better "these are our members" image. Not to mention that thier compensation rate might be considerably less than the Pro's that are in the ad.
The layout of the ad is mixed as well, the title is that people save time and money by visiting the site. But then the ad goes on to talk about how we the users voted on the best supplments.
When you get too complicated, you lose your target audience.
This brings me to the free sample of NO-Xplode. If you really want to get people's attention, all you have to do is put FREE in a conspicuous, large font. That would have drawn more attention to the ad than the two guys and the topic combined.
At the bottom of the ad it lists the winners of this years awards (?) but the layout looks more like a "you can buy our products here" display. The bodybuilding.com logo is not displayed prominently enough, again in my opinion. The purple typeset at the top of the page displaying the logo although looks rather pretty, does not garner the attention of the reader. A yellow or red colored BB.com logo with the black font color would garner more attention.
Ultimately, it is presumable that you want the readers to visit the site. Therefore one could certainly ascertain that the website name and logo be the focus of the advertisement with "65,000 voters.." or "save time and money by visiting" as more of a tagline.
Possibly use something like "The fitness, nutrition and supplement information supersite".
Also, this is not the first thread asking for help with ideas. It would be nice if one of the web guys/gals would stop by and post a thanks for the ideas blah blah blah. Or, it would help us readers if some sort of feedback, public or private was given so that we could be of further assistance.

I was just curious if you ever considered selling (or adding as a gift to purchases over certain amount of money) posters.
Really kick ass ones (sort of like they have on AnimalPak.com).
Just add them as free gift. I think many would love to get some nice black and white motivational die hard posters for free.
Because most of the time I don't even know what to get as free gift:
1. Shakers - already got 2 - don't need more.
2. T-shirts - they don't fit me at all - look like a bag and I already got 3 anyway.
3. Water bottles - got that...
4. Towels -don't need any.
Consider this gyus.
And I'll try to create something over the holidays - and e-mail it to you later.
Thanks.

You all should make 'bodybuilding.com' trucker hats. I'd rock them, only if you liven up the bodybuilding.com logo a bit. It's kinda plain jane. Liven the text up.

before and afters r always popular, be sure to add a couple of prices, color fades are good, but not too much rainbow, made the text stand out without the words new great or any exclamation points, also make sure a weightlifting bar is present, nobody wants a dumbass hydroxycut calvin cline pussy slim fast add that just beats down self esteem, put interesting stats on there to keep them staring, make the reader feel comfortable and happy while reading no "tired of being fat", but use a "reveal those muscles dying for recognition", use fancy logos without overdoing it, email me at BadBrooks14@hotmail.com for a free trial logo, im kinda a pro at those, thanks

effective advertisement is very simple. you simply must stick out. it's kind of like that head-on commercial - it might not be aesthetically pleasing or exciting, but it HAS TO STICK IN THE MIND OF THE READER. dull colors and somewhat cliche text simply don't stand out. make the advertisements pop off the page and catch the reader's eye. also, try sending **** to gyms. i work at the gym at my school and when someone advertises in our gym, they get pretty good coverage; granted my school is only about 1100 students, but all of them are male, and about 80% of them work out at least occasionally. the people you're going to attract are the ones going to the gyms. promotional posters, t-shirts, etc. will work.

It looks like you have a large community of people with similar interest in mind.
However, this community and many others like this one could benefit if they were was sold to a company like Google. Were by then they Google will benefit by gaining users to their sites and a ready made community. Thus Bodybuilding.com will have larger advertising dollars and grow exponentially. You just need to be careful how you brokerage the deal.
It is simple Google needs people and a ready made community like this one. Bodybuilding.com will grow popular around the world.

Definitely send out advertisements to North American high schools and Universities, and give the students there a special discount on your product to secure the youth market. After all I believe that teens-people in their 20's are the most concerned about their looks, and therefore invest alot of money into gym memberships and supplements. The better your connection, and perceived sense of care for the consumer, and quality the more likely these people will buy from you.
Also you could consider a campaign such as "fueled by bb.com" and sponsor athletes from runners, wrestlers, to soccer and football and have them wear bb.com performance gear (which must look good, no generic size XL fits all t-shirts thrown around, people must look good in these things to wear them and thus get your advertisement broadcast) This new apparel should be sold in your shop (people do want to look good in the gym, and you will help with some advertisement on the side) A joint effort with the likes of Adidas, or Nike should be considered.
Buying some banners at some not so mainstream sporting events such as the fairly recent Canadian soccer teams such as the Toronto FC can saturate the market better while keeping costs to a minimum.
Those are a few of the things i could think of to enhance bb.com's market coverage.

It would be really helpful if the workout tracker feature's calendar which shows a "W" for work out on the date an entry is made would have a window that would open when you scroll the mouse over the "W" that showed the title of your workout, or even the workout summary.

Hey I think I might have an idea for a possible improvement for workout tracker.
1: Allow for the system to account for up to 10 sets - so that german volume or 10x10 trainng can be properly recorded.
2: for exercises like 1 arm dumbbell rows allow for data to be entered for each arm so you could record if you normally get 1 more rep on the right side etc.

The name of the site restricts the true potential of the site. This site is sooo much more than just "bodybuilding". That word conjures images of over muscular (if impressive) guys in speedos, and chicks that look like dudes with boobs (please dont hurt me, ladies). I'm just talking about perception of the general public. Here is an add idea. (bold large font(top of page)) "Want to get fit?" "Want to learn how to get fit?" "Want others to support you in your journey to getting fit?" (smaller (text) font) Come visit an established community of people that want to better there lives through fitness. Learn how to build that body you've always wanted. Talk with real people on the same journey as you. See before and after pictures of real people doing what works for them, and learn from them. (Bold medium font (bottom of page)) Bodybuilding.com Come build your body with us
You can add some before and after pics of actual members, some pics of fitness people, and pics of bodybuilders - male and female.
Just an idea to broaden the potential audience. The name itself will get the muscle guys n gals in

I agree on the "record for each arm ability" on the workout tracker. I use the incline dumbell Press alot with 40lbs in each hand. I normaly do either 5 sets @ 5 reps or 3 sets @ 8 reps using both arma simultaniously. Do I record this as (sets x reps) 5x5 @ 40 or 10x10(6x16) @ 40 or 10x10(6x16) @ 80 - or should I list each arm seperatly

Just some ideas.
The ability to add, or submit to be added, an exercise that isnt in the database. I have a couple exercises that i do regularly that arent in the database, so I made a couple vids, put em on my site, and added a note to my workout traker to "see vids". It'd be nice if I could just upload it to the database so others could see/use the exercise.
A "small" option on shirts. I know this is a BB site. Some of us are just starting out, or just naturaly lean. It'd be nice to be able to buy a "racerback tank top" that doesnt look like i could fit another of me inside it. please dont say, "eat, get bigger". I'm working on that, but in the meantime... Also more color options or styles w the bb.com logo would be great.
The ability to organize/arrange our pics. A "folder" to save pics of others - for insipation, or just 'cause like em and wanna share em w friends
The ability to edit the "comments" section and not just the sets/reps/name in the workout tracker.
The ability to add HTML or pics to comments/posts, and messages/IMs
Thanks for reading -Russ

I would like to see a body stat comparison table were I can compare my workout progress to my friends workout progress on the same chart. I think a tool like this could be very motivational and easy to use. Other than that this site is perfect keep it up. Free items would be cool but you already offer so many other things free it really doesn't matter to me.

I am not sure if this idea belongs in this particular thread, but I believe it would be an excellent marketing tool. As popular as the iPod has become, every time I go to the gym I see someone on their iPod touch or iPhone. If somehow a fully functioning iPhone bobybuilding.com app would be amazing. Take an example, facebook, facebook is everywhere and if you had an iPhone or iPod touch, facebook is literally in your pocket and at your fingertips. Making a bb.com app that features tools just like the website could revolutionize mobile fitness. Having tools such as supplement reviews, supplement store, exercise and fitness guides, and bodyspace. How easy would it be to snap a quick picture with your iPhone and upload to your bodyspace account while you are at the gym getting pumped. I am sure I am not the first person to suggest this idea but maybe I can just contribute to the awesomeness it could create.

I'm a big fan of the worker out tracker but I have an idea that may help it become better. The only thing I don't like about the tracker is that you can't narrow down the chart. What if I wanted to see just the stats for the month of Jan in detail? or maybe even for a specified week or day? I think it will help tremendously if the tracker chart can display day, week, and month separatly if needed. Even by exercise, if I wanted to see my progress on just, lets say, arms I can just click on the exercise and it will show me a chart for just that exercise and any given day, week, or month.

I would love to see a forum for those people recovering from injuries and getting back into the sport can participate in. As an athlete recovering and trying to bounce back from injury, I'm having trouble finding people with the same goals, who can relate to what I'm trying to do. It would be great to have people to ask advice of, who have been in my shoes, can tell me what I can expect, and that will help me stay motivated when times get frustrating.
Thanks for listening!

Can there be an option to select what unit of measurement you wish to use. Then I can enter my workouts in kg. If someone else has selected to use lbs when they look at my page it automatically shows in pounds, and if I look at theirs it will show it to me in Kg? Or just have both visible.
If I have completely missed this option when searching how to change from lb to kg please let me know.
Thanks.

Is it possible to make a digital workout form for the workout plans on the site. This way if I want to track Kris Gethin's 12-week hardcore cut day 15, I can type it into the search and it will bring up the form for me. It might be easier for people doing the workout to track their progress online. I me takes me longer to create the electronic version and fill it in than it does for me to do the workout.
I mean this way it makes it easier for people to track it. For each program it only needs to be done once and the users can keep using it for the next 20 years. So while it has a larger upfront time cost it has an unlimited payoff tine frame.
