Power rack installation

I don't have a power rack in my home gym, but am looking at different models right now with intent to purchase. The models I've been researching imply that "installation" is involved.

Does this mean they have to be bolted to the floor, or do "consumer" grade models exist that are free standing? I know there are lots of free standing Smith machines but I don't want one of them.

It usually means that they need to be 'assembled'.
If I were you, I WOULD consider bolting the bottome to a piece of plywood with the rubber mats on it.
But usually not necessary.
I know that the Bodysolid ones are quite sturdy and heavy wiothout being attached to something. I would assume, MOST GOOD quality ones are the same.
Just don't buy one from an Oshmans or Sports Authority and you should be fine.
