I have been working out for about 3 or so months now. This weekend I developed a pain from the middle of my back stretching all the way down to my ankles. It isnt a soreness from working out, but more of a pain/ache. So I guess my question is what is the cause of this and what happened?

Not a dr., but a long time paramedic. There is a covering over the muscles that runs from the middle of your back all the way down the legs, called the fascia. You could have stretched or torn the fascia in your back easily if you didn't warm up properly. If it's more of a burning sensation, it may be a nerve problem, also probably caused by improper warm ups.

Pain is generally caused by inflammation. Ice the worst areas for 48 - 72 hours, rest as much as possible, no lifting for a couple of days, take some Tylenol or Advil and see how you feel. If it's improving, great. After 48 - 72 hours, if it seems to be getting better, you can try adding some heat and stop the ice. Heat will stimulate the blood flow back into the injured area. Go easy on it or it will take forever to heal.

If after a couple days with ice and rest and it's not getting any better, go see the dr for more extensive testing.

Hope this helps you.

thanks a lot that really helped, since tomorrow is my back day. I guess I will take the day off.

Rest is the best answer after seeing a doctor. The back mucles are like thin sheets hooked into your spine if you twist them in a bad way you can F yourself up
