does any of you women know the type of exercises, sets, reps, weights that jessica simpson used to get her great butt?

my butt is semi-flatt, my body type is in between mesomorph (middle) and ectomorph (thin). I'm 5'8, 130 lbs.
My butt needs help!

There was a blurb on E about her workout regime, seemed simplistic! Jessica's not much into workingout, but they said she did squats and lunges - probably light weights!

amythest

actually her butt is alot bigger than it was. I don't want a J-LO butt just alot of shaping and toning.

Squats and lunges will do it. Light weight so you don't build the legs up too much....Unless that's what you want?

i read in several places she speant an entire hour a day doing squats and lunges. Then another hour was cardio....that seems kinda odd that a whole hour would be speat on one exercise though!

I had a pretty flat ass myself, as I am an asian decendant. I do heavy squats once a week and my ass is nice and round now. But when I started 3 years ago, I couldn't squat my own body weight! So be careful if you are a beginner.

I used to have JLO butt about 3 years ago but I think I have been sitting on it way too much and it went smaller and not as firm. Now Im doing lunges, squats, butt buster and one that I cant remember the name - works your thighs and your ass I call it the leg spredder - and now my ass is more firm and round and up where it should be.

I'm not sure if this thing is meant for your butt but the back extensions I do really round out the top of your behind, giving it that peach look. Plus it gives your lower back those nice sleek muscles on either side of your spine.

Walking backwards on an ellipticall is a deceptively simple yet strenuously effective ass workout. Ouch!!!

I agree! Also, try crouching down and letting go of the handles while you go backwards. The burn is intense! I used to use this machine for 30 minutes and alternate front and back, down and up constantly, at different speeds and inclines. It gave me a great cardio workout (sweating like you wouldn't believe!) and my legs and butt felt awesome afterwards. I find I get better results on this machine then any other, as far as the lower body is concerned.

I'm not aware if it would make a difference but they're normally shoulder-width apart. Stand normally on the machine and then crouch down, as if squatting. That's all.

This is exactly what I don;t want... big thighs. But I want a perky booty. So, what exactly is light weight? I saw in this thread someone said when they first started they couldn't even squat their body weight. My squats are only like 45lbs!!

n8s_ltl_buff1
08-05-2005, 06:20 AM
And, alas, I too have suffered from lack of bum... you know what.. just as previously mentioned, squats.. lunges... I also like to to back squats, where you hold the barbell behind you, arms down and then do the squat. the barbell will slide up and dowm your hamstrings if youre doing it correct. Deadlifts and stepups are also good movements for jean filling. I'd skip the kickbacks, personally, all they're good for is toning, and if there is nothing there to tone then youre just wasting your time.

happy butt building!

We have to give her credit for the work she's done, because we want the same. But genetics/age have something to do with the roundness of the arse. We can make it the best we can, and I agree, squat, lunge deadlift, hyperextension will help us to achieve our best butt possible. But that girl got the eyes, the hair, oh yea, perky boobs, and a round, high butt. Just doesn't seem fair.

Well I don't agree with lifing light weights. Lifting light weights won't do nothing for you. Are your legs big because you have too much fat on them? If so, you need to start doing heavy exercices..my favorite (Squats, romanian deads and walking lunges holding heavy DB's). Lifting heavy is the only way you will change your body composition..in other words build muscle and loose fat. Building muscle in your legs will actually make them smaller because muscle is less dense than fat. Of course you also have to lose overall bodyfat with a good diet.

I think lifting light on the legs is just a waste of time and it won't do anything.

All you ladies shouldn't be jealous of J Simpson. Each of ya'll have your own beauty, regardless if its physical.

And I coulda sworn I read an article where she or the costume prop person of Dukes of Hazzard specifically states she had PLASTIC BUTT INSERTS for those 'famous' butt shots!

Don't hate her because she's beautiful! :D

Squats, lunges, SLDLs, deadlifts, hamstring curls. I like to do one heavy leg day a week, and after a couple of days of recovery, I do Lotte Berk's High Round Assets - which is an unweighted, Pilates/dance type workout targeting the behind.

Maybe I shouldn't be asking this in this thread, but in a new thread: a lot of people here say to lift light weights to build a smaller butt and smaller legs and a lot of people are saying to lift heavy weights for the same.

My physio and my nutritionist both said if I want to lose fat and have smaller, shaplier muscles, then I should be lifting less weight with more reps. The contradictory information is so frustrating!! Can somebody frikkin' end this??

The other thing that is really irritating me, is that if you're supposed to lift to failure lifting heavy or light weights, regardless of the goals you have in mind, hat difference does it make how long it takes your muscles to get there?? Isn't there a serious physiological web site anybody has that can provide that information?? A web site more dedicated to women than to men??

Accept apologies if I shouldn't be asking this in this thread.

widestance barbell squats, dumbell walking lunges squeezing your glutes.

heavy weights builds quality muscle. depending on how light you go, it will aslso build quality muscle. if you got too light its basically just stretching. in my pinion you should go heavy until you reac hte point wher you no longer want your butt to grow, then stay at that same weight.

trust me. im a guy, but my butt is huge.. i have to wear 36-38's and m y waist is 34

if I want to lose fat and have smaller, shaplier muscles, then I should be lifting less weight with more reps.

lifting heavy weights and using fewer reps builds muscle. muscle gives your fat something to hang on to.
however, if you have a lot of fat on top and build extra muscle = bigger legs/butt.

light weights / high reps creates more of an aerobic workout. it's not really weightlifting at all.
weight lifting is about gaining or maintaining your muscle mass, not losing fat. not directly anyway.
plus you can't spot reduce or 'shape' your muscles.

if you want smaller muscles the best bet is to go running 4-5 days a week on an empty stomach, eat less protein and forget weights.
your muscles will shrink in no time. still, i doubt you really want it.

as anyone worth their weight in iron will tell you, building muscle always wins in the end.
it elevates your resting metabolism (meaning you can EAT!) which in turn makes losing fat a lot easier.

Absolutely Megin and Miranda.

The problem is the majority of people, and that INCLUDES a lot of personal trainers, physios and people in the fitness industry just have no idea about how women should train and fail to recognise that the average woman simply does not a) have enough testosterone b) does not have genetics c) does not eat well enough to gain huge amounts of muscle.

I used to lift light weights and I looked like crap. I was skinny but flabby.

Now I am SMALLER and tighter and no longer look bony.

imperfectly_lou, thank you so much for your reply!! Mid February, I started a new program that I made myself of 3 x 8, and everybody else is like, "you want to bulk up or something?"!! It drives me insane!! Literally?? I have not noticed amazing changes, but I rediscovered my love of strength training, and the pleasure I get from doing more chin ups than any guy I know.

But it is so hard to keep it in mind, when you hear a lot of people, regardless of their appearance, say things about lifting lighter weights. Pet peeve # 3!! Pet peeve # 2 might be people assuming that because you're fit or because you work out a lot, you can eat whatever the hell you want to eat, OR that if you aren't seeing results, you need to eat less. Irritating, much?!

I'm going to tell you the secret to a great ass.

1) Squats
2) Travelling Lunges (ie lunges around a track while holding DBs)
3) The Stair Stepper

Do these three things and you will get a nice ass, but this thread is worthless without pics.

i think it really depends on how your body responds to whatever training you put it through. some people can lift heavy/fewer reps and they put on the right amount of muscle - for some women, it's hard to build muscle lifting like that.

i've learned for my body type and my goals, i can't lift heavy/fewer reps. i lift "lighter" with higher reps, but im still exhausted when im done.

so i really think it depends on the individual. you hear trainers always say women should lift lighter/higher reps to "tone" etc, but most women NEED the muscle so they SHOULD lift heavier/less reps. when you get an already athletic person with a good amount of muscle who wants to drop body fat, i think the program should change.

and of course you can't forget DIET.

^^^^^^^^This is great advice above; dead on advice.

A common misconception that women have is that in order to get "slimmer shapier legs" they must do tons of cardio. Cardio is great of course, but the ONLY way to reduce the size of your legs is to monitor the diet. Make sure it's low fat (roughly, 40-60grams of fat--mostly unsaturated types), and caloric intake is not too low, but not too high. And patience. Lunges, squats, etc are excellent toners, but alone do not slim the legs. But combine all 3 together, and you'll get fab gams.

A tip to give "shape" to the bun area: Have a chair handy. Stand tall behind the chair. Keep the hips square and do not arch the back. Lift up the right or left leg in a bent position. Keeping everything stationary, rotate the knee outward squeezing the bun area in the right or left leg.

This is very similar to one of the exercises on the Lotte Berk High Round Assets workout I recommended. I was a little skeptical of an unweighted workout, but it's a nice addition to my usual heavy lifting and does seem to give a nice shape - particularly to the upper curve.
