Yeah, maybe it was just the batch I got, but I found ON's vanilla had a chemical smell and slight chemical aftertaste. I liked Champion Pure Whey Vanilla, Designer Protein French Vanilla as well as ON's Pro Score Vanilla betta.

I have made it my personal quest to find the best tasting Vanilla protein powder because 99% of what is out there tastes like crap. The latest and greatest that I have found is PrimaForce WPI Vanilla Bean. I still recommend mixing it only with skim milk and adding 1/2 teaspoon of a good quality vanilla extract per 8 oz. serving. Awesome stuff! PrimaForce does it again.

Chocolate: Good in water and milk, tastes like brownie mix in each.
Vanilla: Good in milk, not so good in water but still better than most.

EAS 100% Whey
Chocolate: Good in water and milk, tastes more like chocolate milk than brownie mix though.
Vanilla: It's ok in milk but not in water.

Evolve is creatine, my friend. I think you mean Amplify, and although sold at GNC is by NDS[Nutritional Delivery System]. Amplify tastes amazing, i've used ON, GNC, and NDS, and i'd definatly say that amplify tastes great, the cookies n' cream flavor is delicous. In terms of quality/price though, new Gold Standard 100% Whey is the best, it has more protein in it and tastes better then most protein around, it's also very cheap! Amplify is like 30 bucks for 2 LB, while 100% whey by ON is 30 bucks for 5 LB!!! Anyways, optimum nutrition seems to be the best, ugh, i hate going to vitamin shoppe to buy it. that place is full of old people.

100% Whey Gold is good, not necessarily "best," at a relatively reasonable price. You shouldn't gain weight from whey qua whey in a good, well rounded, clean diet with adequate exercise, sleep, etc.

Using a quality WPI pre and post workout is critical. Using a protein blend supplement at all other times during the day (between meals and with meals) is also important. I like ON 100% Whey Gold Standard for pre and post workout, and Labrada ProV60 at other times.

You could mix CEE and whey in a shake, but CEE tastes pretty horrible unless its in a capsule (this is one of the reasons for putting CEE in a cap - many company owners in the industry that I know tried to flavor CEE without success). If you try taking CEE and Whey in a shake, the CEE may taste so bad that you wont want to drink it - so you might be best to get CEE in a cap if taste is a huge factor for you.

You could mix CEE and whey in a shake, but CEE tastes pretty horrible unless its in a capsule (this is one of the reasons for putting CEE in a cap - many company owners in the industry that I know tried to flavor CEE without success). If you try taking CEE and Whey in a shake, the CEE may taste so bad that you wont want to drink it - so you might be best to get CEE in a cap if taste is a huge factor for you.

The article that you reference was ONE OF THE FIRST that I wrote over THREE YEARS AGO, and its only one of two articles that I wrote where I recommended a MuscleTech product. It's hardly fair to cite it now as being representative of my feelings and current knowledge. I dislike MuscleTech products because the are over priced and are of questionable quality. The best tasting protein i've tasted is by far musclemilk but believe it or not i found a pretty damn good tasting protein by HDT called 100% Whey Protein. I tried it in Alpine Vanilla. It's really good...granted its no musclemilk but its by far the best whey protein ive tasted. It tasted exceptionally good when i mixed it with jellos sugar free pistachio mix. Just add ice but no milk or it will turn into pudding.

ON is good with water, the Chocolate Mint takes just fine with plain water. I am lactose intolerant so taking it with milk is not an option for me. I used to just take some Designer Whey Strawberry and mix it with bananas, strawberries and organic orange juice in a blender. Great tasting stuff, like a Smoothie King drink at home, cheaper too. That is a lot of carbs though so now I'm trying the Nectar protein drinks, the strawberry kiwi is just awesome with water, no bad aftertaste or thick milky "makes you wanna choke" feeling. Good stuff!

Of all these Cyto sport is the best, mixes well instantly, tastes good and has more than 50% BCAA.

I decided to consolidate my protein purchases and bought the mammoth 22pound bioplex buket-o-delight. I went with chocolate because that seems to be the hardest flavour for anyone to screw up. While not as good as ON or Dymatize (I`ve tried both in chocolate), it does come pretty close to ON`s. Dymatize`s stuff is very sweet and while I like that, you just can`t beat the price point for Bioplex. It`s around 30% cheaper than ON and the taste is only marginally less. It`s also nice to have one large container of protein around rather than tons of those 5pound tubs. If you are like me and consume lots of whey, I`d recommend it. My first tasting was just with water, and I found it to be quite nice actually. Not too sweet but with quite a strong cocoa flavour. I`d give it 8 out of 10.

the whey protein powders ive tried were ON whey (choc), muscle milk RTD in choc as well, GNC's whey (choc), GNC unflavored whey and isopures RTD (in apple melon).

isopure has a really good tatse with the fruitness to it. but 10g of protein as a recovery shake wont cut it for me. tatse gets 10/10 though

muscle milk: it made me sick trying to down the RTD cartoon in choc. i avoided this afterwards

ON whey (choc): best tatsing choc protein as long its with skim milk. even with water, it still tatse great. 24g + the protein comming from the 8oz of milk totals out to about 30g -+. this is my favorite and will be sticking with this one

GNC choc whey: this is a great tatsing mix as well. similar to ON's. if there is no ON whey, i would probably go with this.

GNC unflavored whey: worse ever. i mixed with gatorade and vitiman water, still tatsed like @ss. never ever buy this

Just to throw this one out there, I don't think ON strawberry is that bad. It's been getting a lot of flak on the boards, but it's pretty good to me. I've tried chocolate and straweberry, and I'd probably pick strawberry over the two.

I have to say that my vote will always be with ON 100% Whey Vanilla.Never tried Chocolate Mint though.I have this morning Kick-Me-Start-Power-Shake or just an ordinary meal replacement recipe using this amazing stuff.

ON Vanilla Power Shake

6 tbs Frozen low-fat plain yoghurt
2 pieces of Vitabrits
1-2 scoops ON 100% Whey Vanilla
A dash of Splenda
1 tbs peanut butter
1-2 bananas

Mix everything up and blend.I tell you,you won't find any better tasting creamy vanilla ice cream that is as good for both your soul & palate as this shake.Skip the bananas and lower down the amount of yoghurt if you're cutting.

I just tried PVL Whey Gourmet in Peanut Butter Chocolate. That is some tasty stuff!! Easily the best protein powder I've tasted.

I just recently bought some CytoSport whey protein in Cocoa Bean flavor, and I really really enjoy it.

I do mix it with twice the recommended amount of liquid though, tastes better that way to me.

It says to mix one scoop whey with one cup water, but I just mix the scoop with 2 cups milk and some ice and it is the bomb. I would highly recommend it, especially for the price.

I've been searching for the ultimate in C'n'C flavored whey.

So far, I've tried the following:

Cytosport's Complete Whey- not bad, but a bit over the top, IMO, as it has a bit of an accompanying flavor note that gets old by the end of the serving.

Iron-Tek's Essential Whey: Subtle flavoring, also with a bit of an accompanying flavor, but less intense than the Cytosport.

Still pending: PVL Whey Gourmet- dang hard to come by in the US for a reasonable price.

I would actually agree that the Cytosport complete whey's flavor can be "over the top". I actually thought it tasted too strong in the recommended amount of liquid.

Once I put in 2X the amount of milk, it tasted 10X better! Try it out.

I've tried a few protein powders and MRPs.

As for taste, I think Muscle Milk is top notch but it's not really a protein powder with the carb and fat content (I guess this is obvious, sorry). It does honestly taste like a cheat meal, but for some of us (with the carb and fat content) it IS a cheat meal, lol.

For low carb and fat content my favorite is Nitrean by At Large Nutrition. This stuff mixes incredibly well (even with just a glass and spoon), no clumps, etc. It tastes surprisingly good and it has sort of a "different" taste to it. It's hard to explain, but it just tastes different. Imagine thinking "hmm, what IS that in there?" It is also a protein blend and not just a whey-only product.

I don't personally care for ON's chocolate when it comes to taste, but I do think that it's a solid product (because if you like the taste I think it does work well, meets label claims, etc.). The taste just sort of got gross to me after a while (I used it for a long time).

I didn't care for Isopure at all. I used to like the old Myoplex but the new formula tastes pretty nasty to me. I've also used a few non-flavored powders but of course they didn't taste very good. :)

Beverly makes some decent tasting shakes as well, though their prices are a little high. Supposidly they are very, very solid products though (from what I've heard; I have only tasted a few of them but don't have tons of experience using them).

Just got my Higher Power 100% whey protein today...thank you Mr. UPS man...anyway, ran straight to the blender with it. I was like a kid a christmas! I put 8oz soy milk in the blender along with 2 scoops (only calls for 1 but i like to double up) and blended it. YUM YUM!! very good taste! I will be buying this product for a while!

Just tried Scitec Nutrition Protein Delite Alpine Chocolate and Coconut Almond and both taste amazing. The chocolate has chocolate chips in it and the coconut has peices of coconut. I wouldnt buy them though despite the amazing taste because something in them upsets my stomach, maybe the milk protein.

I've been a long time ON 100% Whey user. Usually get chocolate but tried Chocolate Mint a couple times. Both pretty good, never saw a reason to switch. Well, my last order they were actually out of the ON I ordered, so I had them substitute Dymatize Butter Toffee instead. Wow, this stuff is delicious. I now plan to stick to Dymatize from now on, so much better.

IMO, the best tasting protein powder is MRM chocolate. it doesn't have an over powering taste but it has just the right amount of sweetness to it. also it mixes instantly with milk or water...

Tried Next Designer Chocolate Peanut Butter Caramel- has lingering caramel-like taste that makes me almost nauseated by the end of the serving.

Different accompanying flavor to Labrada's ProPlete Gold- very artificial flavor- not so good....
