Quick intro here guys and gals. Been trolling for a while and decided to take a deeper look at myself. I've always been a big kid, never really active. I do work...alot, but thanks to a co-worker I found a gym close by that works WITH my busy lifestyle. I also like to take time off during the fall and winter time to get away from my friends and partying and drinking (which all equals spending money) so I can save some cash and maybe my health too!! Being stuck at a desk all day isn't bad. Between web access and EXCEL I was able to read around the BB.com forums and learn a thing or two about what I did wrong last year when I tried KETO for the first time.

Why I'm here-seems there's tons of educated people here and I could use the advice and suggestions. I'd like to see myself in better health and would love to live a different lifestyle than I'm currently living, I WANT to make a change!

What went wrong- not enough education regarding KETO. I was living off of chicken breast, steak, water and protein shakes.....that's it. Kinda boring. Didn't look at my options, didn't look at nutrition and defitnetly didn't do myself any favors.

This time around-motivation, education and commitment. I'm currently cranking in at a hefty 280lbs at 6'0". Oddly, I only wear a 38-40 waist and I move well for a big fella, but I'd like to see myself get down to the 220-230 range and add more muscle to my frame rather than chubby goodness. My office job has me up and down stairs all day, but my night job (butchers asst) has me lifting and moving some pretty good sized items, so I am pretty strong, but chubby too. When I look down, I see the second chin and the gut just hangin there.....makes me sad. So, after learning a bit more about KETO and walking around the grocery store for a bit I was able to plot everything into an EXCEL sheet (what, you think I work at work???). I'd be getting my 6 meals a day in, calorie intake would be just about 2300 per day with about 260g of protein to go with it. Carb intake would be roughly 30-40g per day as well and would be early in the morning with breakfast. Having a 24hour gym 5 mins from my home is the biggest help of them all!! I also learned that when I went "lifting" last time, I was doing it all wrong and just not helping myself at all. I've learned a thing or two about that as well and hopefully things go better this time.

When I have time tomorrow I'll update all my specs and we'll launch from there, wish me luck!!

Best of luck! sounds like it a dream to do keto and work in a butcher shop. Try adding in green veggies, good fats, and such into your diet this time around for variety. Also, have you thought about starting off with 20g of carbs for a week or so in order for your body to become adjusted to burning fat for fuel? Might help. Fitday.com is great for tracking calories and macros.

That's soooo lucky about the nearby gym. Keep posting!

So far so good, it's only day one and I'm not bad. Portioned all my food, ate something every 3 hours or so and hit the gym tonight, hard. Feels good though, wonder how it'll be in the morning.

Quick question in regards to whey protein. The stuff I'm using has some sugar (1g) per serving, would this effect my attempt into Keto at all, or should I not worry? Is there ANY acceptable about of sugar allowed in this diet, of any kind?

thx in advance

I don't think 1g of sugary carbohydrate will make that much of a difference, provided that you only use a couple servings or so per day. Whey is great for post workout, and since many use 10-15g of high GI carbohydrate during this time, you shouldn't worry that much about it. Whey by itself provokes an insulin response, so one gram of carbohydrate is next to nothing in comparison. I'd recommend other protein sources for the rest of the day, if possible. Up until recently, I only used whey for post-workout; now, I've switched to egg white powder, the rest of my protein intake coming from whole food.

About sugar, as I said, many people do use a bit of dextrose or maltodextrin post-workout, but nothing excessive. Personally, I've gotten out of using high-GI carbohydrate even on a carbohydrate based diet, so I'm opting for egg protein and cream in my Keto venture.

I've just gotten into a Keto diet for the final part of my cut (literally, as of today), so I'll be sure to keep an eye on your progress. Be sure to make many mistakes, so that I can vicariously learn from them. And if someone contradicts the advice I just gave, listen to them instead. ;)
