View Full Version : Weightlifter's shoulder???
Another set back??? Lately having some pain mostly on flat benches. The pain is mostly in my right clavicle area, feels like mostly over my chest area than actually on my delt area. Don't feel it on flyes or hardly any other movement. More on flat benches than even on inclines or declines. Sometimes it even feels like it's in my trap area. An orthropedic doctor friend I described it to over the phone said it sounds like weightlifter's shoulder. He basically said try anti-inflams for a while and if it doesn't get better may need to x-ray it to help figure it out better, maybe even an MRI.
Sound familiar to anyone? Anyone can offer help or advice....?

I had/have the same thing. The muscles around your clavicle have been pulled or torn. My physiotherapist showed me a couple of exercises to help with strengthening and flexibility. She also gave me some good massages too (no happy endings though).
Stand rougly a foot and a half away from a wall and do 3 sets of 15 wall presses. But do them slowly and really focus on your squeezing your shoulder blades together.
She gave me a stretching exercise to do aswell. Hold a broomstick or similar behind you (palms facing back) and push out and hold for 2 seconds. Do this for 3 sets of 10. It may sound easy but it burns like crazy. The flexibility in my shoulders increased within a week and the pain got gradually better.
My shoulder still hurts a little but it's 10 x better than what it was.
Make sure you go easy on the weight for a few weeks.
Hope this helps.
Thanks. Guess I'm going to have to downplay chest and delt work for a little while...
