Swelling?

I play goalie and after a few weeks of practice i pretty banged up and a lot of bruises. My question was will puttting an ice pack on my bruises will the swelling reduce so it doesn't hurt as much when they get hit.

yeah it'll slow the blood flow therefore slow the swelling. or somethin like that
