i have been working out off and on for about 2 years now too. i've been told that im competition quality from amateur and professional comeptitors but have been going back and forth for about a year now as well....so i recently decided to go for it.
i figure that since i've been thinking about it this long, then its pretty important to me...besides, when im older i probably wont look like this or what i will look like by competition time. GO FOR IT!! someday you will regret it!

I dont know if you are a jay cutler fan or not, but he said something on his new dvd From Jay to Z that really struck me. He said that if you have a dream, go for it. He said how he was just a regular guy growing up in small-town america, and he had a dream to become the greatest bodybuilder in the world. Yea we all have obstacles in life, but if you want something bad enough, if you have the desire, then go for it.
People can knock jay all they want, but he is a self-made man who had a dream, pursued and actualized it.
Whatever it takes.
good luck.

I'm always one to say go for it.
My one honest concern is that your 98lbs. Obviously you have a small frame....that is not a big deal if you can fill it out and get lean as a mofo.
What does your diet look like? I took a look at some of your bodyspace photos....your pretty lean...but not competition lean...so I can't imagine what weight you'd be at after shredding down. On the positive side, it does look like you could add some serious muscle to your frame. If I were you, I'd check out some local shows and really focus the next yr on putting on as much lean mass as possible. It will all come down to diet....so again whats it look like?
I hope I'm not coming off negative, b/c that is not my intention...I'm far from a great bodybuilder and I support anyone who strives to step on stage.

Shortyb- GO for it. I don't think you really even need to diet down if you're still looking like you do in the photos. Let's say you gained 9 0r 10lbs of **LEAN** mass alone, which doesn't take very long at 17 with all the hormones flying around your body...you could lose 5 of those lbs before a show, make bantamweight at 112lbs and look great for your first show. Don't expect to place first, but that shouldn't be the point anyway. It would be a great learning experience and an opportunity to get your feet wet. Put in the hard work ((NATURALLY)) and reward yourself buy stepping up their and showing people your hard work. Everyone's gotta start somewhere and if you start learning at 17, you'll be ahead of the game in your 20's.

I have recently been thinking of competing as well. I have always been into working out and looking great but in the last few months really started weight training. I have gained 18 pounds over the last few months ... i think i'd wait until i reach 145-155 ... what do you guys think?

GO FOR IT!!!
The longer you procrastinate, the longer journey to sccess will be, just think of it this way. Every decision you make either takes you step closer or a step further away from your goal. You decide to procrastinate, you getting further away from your goal. Pick an organization, pick a competition, and you will notice HUGE difference in your training. Even if you don't take the first place in competition, you're already a winner!

I also so go for it. So many guys I hear in the gym, "Once I get my legs up", "Once I'm 240 I'll compete", "Once..." and then they never end up competing. Go for it... get your feet wet and then improve. Too many guys are too afraid to compete.
