so you havent done any MMA or lifting in 3 days?

i do a very simillar HIIT thing wrong with this is your resting for as long as your working, you will get much better endurance by lets say 45 sec sprint and 30 sec break, this is for conditioning but the idea of HIIT is that you stay anaerobic by letting your heart rate drop 6 bpm, the only way to do HIIT proper is to test your heart rate,
So while doing HIIT wear my HRM ... Thanks I am going try it out!
lulz I havent had mcd's in like 2 years
yeah, it wasnt meant to be tru HIT just some interval cardio...usually I'll do a closer 1:2 or 1:3 ratio for HIT
morning! :)

so then it wouldn't be a problem for you to put a barbell in there and load weight up. Then ask to work in, and voila! It worked pretty well for me when I had to manage to deal with higher-ranking officers who were using the rack for....whatever.
It's a polite and respectful way to work in. They don't need to worry about changing weight, you just need the space. Frequently they'd get the message and just...move.

I've been giving up on my leg kicks during sparring as it opens me up to counters and takedowns. I feel a leg kick isn't necessarily going to stop a fight.
I've been going straight for the head or liver if I throw a kick at all. I've been focusing a lot more on my boxing/hands.
Sorry for the rant but your log title sparked it!

open-mat x 2.5 hours
rolled with 4 different people
rolled with my usual partner a few times...worked on getting new submissions on him...took the back for a RNC, got a guillotine, arm triangle and a few others...he's getting better though
second guy was a 135 but was close to a blue belt and FAST...good rolling with him, as he had been a wrestler too so had a very good base....he got me the first time with a guillotine I never saw coming, second time we went for like 10 min until I got him in a kimura...then we had to get him a bucket to puke in.... my mat endurance 4tw
third guy was a 205 beast...he usually gets me about 50/50..but today I was 3-0 on him. first time was a nice fedor style armbar from bottom where i roll through and end up on my stomach....second was americanaa....third was a RNC after a sweet scramble to his back...also managed to survive a very deep americana by movin around, to the delight of the instructor
lastly I rolled with the instructor who fights at 170...he got me in a peruvian necktie the first time. second time was a long roll before he got me in an armbar....third time was another long roll..and during a scramble he pushed me away from guard but left a leg out and I slapped on a leg lock and managed to get it 4tw. he said it was very slick and he didnt expect it. I told him I was inspired by the UK guy on TUF last night with the sick leg game
overall a GREAT day...instructor told me I'm looking very good, and he can see improvements. I think I'm gonna work with him alot more and try and find a BJJ contest(no-gi perferabbly) soon....NAGA comes to chicago..any thoughts? I'd be in a new division obviously, and with the NAGA I'd have just under 9 weeks to cut weight

Depending on how much you weigh the bodyweight ones can be an ass kicker too.
We do them for warmups before Muay Thai sometimes and they can suck. Pushups, Squats, and V Ups and you will be plenty warmed up.

AWESOME roll, tons of energy from the alkaline diet again. just me and one other again
first hour we free rolled starting from standing...def need to work a bit more of this...got a standing arm triangle once and pulled guard...another time got his back, but other times he got dominant position bc of mistakes id make...next 45 minutes were technique work...taught him some butterfly guard and sweeps, and some other basic type stuff to get him ready.
last 15 minutes were positional rolling on the ground
finished with one last all-out roll... I got to an underhook/overhook and did a Judo throw to take him down into side control...worked for a bit, he did a good job using the techniques I taught him to get out of side and into a turtle position, and I finished him with a very tight anaconda
my energy was great, so when he took a water break I'd do sets of 25 crunches, neck bridges, shrimp down the mats, etc

Coach feels my ground game is already better than the guys so I need to make sure my striking is as good as it can be.

All these tournements seem to be everywhere except where i live, glad Muy Thai is pretty popular in my town
5/1 workout 1:
open mat x 1:15
leg kicks on heavy bag x 25 each leg
went well...cut short bc my training partner is a fragile hypochondriac.... omg did you hear my shoulder just pop!? uh...no....
worked alot of take downs...got a little more comfortable on using the tie up and attempted judo tosses tos et up a single leg....gave up my back once on the ground, but fought through and managed to spin out.....landed my first D'arce...got an anaconda...few armbars....but still no triangle
also FINALLY got a knee bar to work...obviously didnt torque at all, but got that leg isolated and to the point where he knew it woudl've been over
good session, pushed the pace hard again...never laying flat in guard, always lookin...got a nice few butterfly sweeps again...feels good man

-squats were tight form and felt good

notes:
-during open mat rolled a 5 minute round with one of our instructors...survived without being submitted for the first time against him. he moutned me, and I rolled him. he tried an arm bar, i stacked him and sawed it out. three times from weird angles i got put in a triangle, and escaped every one. 3 times i got a "wow, nice!" from him......I got an anaconda, and he said I was literally like 3 seconds from him tapping when I moved to try something else. I had been holding a tight gable grip, and completely burned out my left forearm...by the time i had the anaconda locked on, my forearm was numb and I couldnt squeeze anymore lulz. but felt good man. also didnt get tapped once by my partner, and got him with a variety of submissions... D'arce, head an arm, few armbars(new fav haha), RNC...

worked a double, had someone come in early for me to go workout, but 5 min before that happened got a call for a woman down....ended up gettin home too late to hit the gym bc I had to do CPR for quite awhile until we got her in the ambulance
got home and did 30 minutes of hip and hamstring flexbility work
5/14:
stepper: 5 min
crossramp: 10 min
explosive pushups (explode off ground, and onto a medicine ball with both hands thats under the chest: x10, x5, x5, x5, x5
DB military: 50x10, 60x9, 65x8
hammer strength shrugs: 242x10, 282x10, 332x8
recline pullups: x8, x8, x8
elliptical: 20 min
stepper: 5 min
treadmill: 20 min
60 min / 675 calories
notes:
-cardio pre-workout was ~130HR, warmup range
-hammer shrug machine weighed 12 pounds before adding plates, hence the odd weights
-elliptical after was the usual HR cardio
-stepper and tread were kept at an average of 145 HR, with some lower and some in the 160-180 range
also got lab results back over the phone frm a nurse...she seemed inept, so I made an appt to discuss them with a doctor, but its not for like 2 weeks bc theyre busy...anyway, what i WAS able to get was that according to them my test and thyroid are "normal". i made them give me the numbers, and it seems my test level is "normal" for like a 90 year old man. i'm less than HALF of the "average" level for a 25-34 y/o male (700). Thyroid number seems decent, but hard to find good info online thus far. so i guess i'll go to the doc in 12 days and see what he says, and maybe sweet talk him into some help.... from what i've read low test can possibly be a part of my problem losing weight?

I wish I could make mysled hit the cardio like you do man. It is like pulling teeth to get me to run or do the bike. I tend to just roll or spar extra rounds. I gotta run this weekend though since I will be away from the gym though. Blech.

I am feeling your pain. I had a balance bar for dinner with 2 liters of water. I have a 100 calorie muscle milk for the morning and that is it until weigh ins at 7:30. : /

As for you competing at Heavy Weight I don't think that will be that big of a deal for you. I have competed at Heavy Weight the last 3 Tournaments and did fine, and that was weighing 217 and 210. I made it to the Finals in one tournament, One Gi and No Gi at the other, and was competitive against some much bigger guys so I think with your size and strength it isn't going to hurt you. It is usually one of the smaller divisions too. I think be hydrated and energized will help you out a lot and you won't have the cardio issues that other big guys have since you do about 4 hours of it a day, or so it seems.

GL man!
weighed in in full warmups and cup and everything @ 237, lightest in the division
the gi went as expected having not worn one in like 2 years. went up against a strong, good opponent from I think a gracie school and got tapped via americana. i pulled guard after a missed judo throw...he passed, and as he did I got my arm stuck across my chest, and his face was holding my arm there...by the time I started to get my arm free, he was already securing the americana
no-gi I got a bye first round, second round lost to the eventual champion of the division...he jacked up my left elbow pretty good on 2 different good americanas, but fought out of them...later in the match i went to throw a leg over his head and accidentally kicked him in the back of the head hardcore with my shin. i asked if he was ok bc he just froze for a second, and patted him on the back to ask him (habit from training..) the ref saw the pat and heard a mumble(he had a headlock on) and thought I tapped from the choke :( strong noob mistake
next match was for 3rd place. about a minute in I won via ezekial choke
overall it was a LONG day....from the time I got there for weigh-ins and rules meetings it was over 4 hours til my first fight. between that, the nerves and only having a gatorade and box of raisins all day, i felt spent before my first match even started. learned some things, met some VERY cool people and teams, saw some solid jiu-jitsu, and had fun despite a dissapointing day.
few pics attached
first is attempted throw in the gi (needed to get the hip over farther to block his other hip)
second is pulling guard
third is in guard
fourth is where my arm got stuck
fifth is the ezekial finish
sixth is one of the americanas i survived...but its the 2nd of the 2 that felt my elbow creak and has it hurting now
sorry for low quality, workin on still captures. the camcorder battery died, so have pieces of vids from the digital

I feel you on the deloading. I went to Muay Thai and MMA last night and was exhausted the whole time. I thought I was ready to get right back into training but I guess this weekend took more out of me than I expected. I might wait until Saturday to get back to class. I have a ton of crap around the house to do anyway so it might work out for the best.
