At the end of the day it comes down to calories in v's calories out. If you are not overeating then you will not gain weight.

That means you need to get your diet on track - Don't DIET (you should never seriously diet when you are trying to heal) but make sure you eat sensibly and you should probably cut down on your starchy carbs a little as you will not require the energy (I would still get a minimum of 100g to keep you out of ketosis- that is something else you do not what when you are healing).

Also, although you can not train I do believe you can walk and do light aerobic exercise right? If so, then this is your key... Start walking. Go LOTS of walks if you can - walk in the morning, walk to work, walk to get groceries, walk in the evenings... Do what you can...

But remember you are also trying to repair - don't do anything that could cause you to be sick for longer than you should be.... So rest as well and just get back on track when you are given the go ahead from your doctor.

Asfit: try to get a surgeon who doesn't cut you open, but rather goes in thru a dime-sized hole. It's getting to be a common procedure now; recuperation time is much, much speedier & the after effects are not nearly as bad.

I had a hernia last december and well I still feel a bulge and I went in and he said I didn't have one...I'm going to get another appointment because I can still feel it and i can feel it sometimes like a bubbling feeling and it like "squishes" when I push on it....Feels the same as it did before surgery....

I'd say go walks when you can....take plenty of vitamin a and c...and put vitamin e on the wound....I'm a guy but I saw the hernia post and had to post...Hernias suck...I was out for 2 months and gain about 10 lbs of solid fat because i was depressed that I couldn't workout and want not....and ate like crap.

good luck with the surgery...and if you can get that microsurgery or w/e the guy above me was saying( I have heard about it, but only for heart surgeries not hernias), I would take it.
