I'd say the cliff builders bars, they are organic and have 20 grams of protein. im not gonna list every single ingredient, but they are supposedly all natural. O and they taste good too.

im a big fan of the Tri-O-Plex bars as well as the Next Oatmeal Bars. Both have tons of protein, complex carbs and have over 400 calories each. I like to have those mid morning. Anything with peanut butter is always good

The regular detour/one way bars are awesome too but i have those when necessary cuz i dont feel like theyre as nutritionally sound...

I would have to say for both the money and the protein I like the EXTREME bar. You can find this bar at all Wal-marts on the end of the cereal isle. They cost 1.77/bar and provide 30g. protein and 5 g. creatine. They come in two flavors Cookies and Milk and Peanut Butter. They will deffinately curve your appetite.

I like the OhYeah bars...........but overall is the Solid Protein bars by Nature's Best..........I don't even know if they still make them...............Also ABB Steel Rivets are good.............

I think the Oh Yeah bars taste extremely good, probably one of the best I've tried. I used to work at 2 bodybuilding/supplement stores and was able to try just about every bar out there. From what I remember the best tasting was the Oh Yeah and Odyssey bars. The Odyssey bar has a lot less fat but for me that isn't exactly a good thing because my metabolism is super fast so I can use all the help I can get. Plus most of the fat is peanut based so isn't too bad. The OneWays are awesome but start tasting pretty bad after you eat them for a while as well as the detours.

One thing I noticed that makes a HUGE difference in the taste is the freshness of the bars. You can get a OneWay that has been shelved for months and it tastes like cardboard but if you can get your hands on new ones then they taste a whole lot better. Always check the expiration date and try and find the newest ones.

Meso-Tech Complete bars are hands down the best tasting, plus they have that added bonus of giving me everything I need pre and post-workout. Chocolate Chip Oat Bar is my fave, then Apple Cinnamon Oat Bar, then Double Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar coming in third.

25g protein
0g trans fat
40g carbs

Plus a nice little kick of calcium and fiber. Nuke one of those bad boys for about 10-15 seconds, mmmm good stuff.

I use the AST Vyo-Pro bars. 20 grams of protein, 24 grams of carbs, no sugar, no stupid sugar-alcohols (unless there's something in the ingredients that I don't realize is a sugar-alcohol), and no dumb claims to have "2 net carbs" or anything like that.

They don't taste too bad - kind of like a big chocolate brownie/tootsie roll. You definately need something to drink with about every bite, though - or they sort of gum up in your throat. I think they're the best nutritionally out there, and they are pretty cheap at ~$1.42/bar (12 pack for $17.00). Find them here: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/ast/vyobar.html

The other day I was at Wal-Mart and thought wtf I'll try a few of their protein bars... what a waste! I grabbed two Choc. Deluxe and I still haven't eaten the other one. It was the most bitterly nasty choc. I've ever tasted. They have 20g protein but you'll need a big glass of milk to choke'em down.

The name of the bar is Pure Protein.

if u can find em, the Goliath's Bar-Up protein bars are really good, i like their cookies and cream flavour most. Also, every now n then at GNC i buy their Detour bars, their white choc peanut one is pretty good i think.
i agree, Aussie Bodies taste rotten, id rather buy detour bars at GNC then get the HPLC bars for free where i work

i emailed joe defranco a couple weeks ago when i heard about his new mojoe energy protein bar and he sent me a couple! Man, this thing is by far the best tasting bar ive ever had. i didn't think anything could have ever compared to the detour bars but this bar took protein bars to another level. have any of you guys tried them? they have 28g protein, 1500mg Ltyrosine nd some caffeine 100mg? they definately give you a nice "kick". my new favorite bar...cant wait for them to come out. anyone know wen they will b available?

Iīve tried many of the bars on the market and these are in top 5:
1 - Met-Rx Protein Plus, Chocolate Fudge
2 - Labrada LeanBody Gold Bars, Caramel Cookie Twist
3 - AST Vyo-Pro, Chocolate
4 - Next, Detour - U-TURN - Oneway (I like them all)
5 - WorldWide Pure Protein bars, Chocolate Deluxe.

I just bought a box of PBL-Pure Omega 3 Protein Bars, Chocolate Fudge and didnīt like them at all.. really bad aftertaste and just horrible. Has anyone tried them or other flavors of them?

" Bio Nutritional Crunch Bar " These bars are so good I feal like I'm cheating when I eat them. They meet my tastebuds needs and my caloric needs. Sodium is fairly low and so is fat content. Protein is a little low but I never eally use bars for my protein requirements; more for emergencies and so should you. Give this one a try; if you like waffers you won't be disappointed!

LABRADA!!!!
Labrada bars are amazing quality and taste so good. Worth every penny i think. Otherwise id go with detour/some myoplex bars. If youre looking for a cheap bar with a decent bang for your buck id say Steel bars..they are extremely cheap and not that bad.

190 cals

Another good set of bars for protein are the south beach diet bars. Every flavor of these bars that i have tasted have been great.

Still too many cals for my girl man, the lite bars have 190 and taste great, regardless of how good other bars may be, if they are 2x as many calories or are hard to eat, they're not gonna work.

I agree with Jawalk, Pure Protein makes great tasting bars. Actually they even make a meal replacement bar now with 30-32g of protein in them. I believe they only have 3-4g of fat in them as well. I usually get the Blueberry Cheesecake or Country Blueberry Pie, but I just happen to like blueberrys. They have many other flavors like Strawberry shortcake that I haven't tried yet.

Sup,

i just ordered stuff from bodybuilding.com about 2 weeks ago and I got this free bar -- it was the best bar i've ever had. Nutrition wise, i thikn it's not the best, but it's not horrible. Taste is excellent.

I think it's some promax bar, red wrapper, it's like this new promax oat bar. It's really perfect in taste texture, it's made with a lot of oats so it's less glycemic, although it does have sugar. So i can handle the sugar as long as it's mostly oats giving me the carbs. THe biggest probelm wtih the bar is only 20 grams of protein. I think it needs 25-30, preferably 30. I heard 30 is a good amount to give u anabolic response.

I've tried a few and found Pure protein to be the best. I've tried the peanut butter, chocolate chip and smore (smores being my favorite) and they all taste great. Only 190 cal, 20 g protein, 2 g sugar and 17 g carb. Great for pre workout and snack

i second pure protein smores flavor, 1.05 each for a 6 pack at walmart. what are sugar alcohols though? and are the partialy hdyrogenated soybean or cotton seed oil that abd for you? cant seem to find anything with out tons of sugar or something hydrogenated.

mesotech used to have protein bars in a flavour called cookies and cream that was honestly better than 90% of chocolate bars. chewy and crunchy and delicious. it also happened to have lots of sugar and i can no longer find it on bb.com

the only protein bars i eat are zone bars (more like diet bars. 40% protein, 40% carbs, 30% fat and about 200 calories) in chocolate mint and detour bars. both are good ways to satisfy cravings

I just recieved a box of Universal HiProtein bars (Peanut Butter Flavor). Thus far these are the best overall bar I have ever Had. I have tried: Nitrotech, Pure Protein, OhYeah!, MesoTech, Detour, Joyride, Myoplex, Tri-O-Plex, Labrada Lean Body Gold, Met-Rx Protein Plus, Powerbar Protein Plus, and tons of other.

So far, taste is best for OhYeah! Bars, but nothing beats the overall combo like HiProtein does. (34g protein, LOW LOW LOW fat and saturated fat, plus low glycemic carbs and only 304 calories. Also, the texture and taste are amazing)

The ISS Oh Yeah! bars are without a doubt the best-tasting I've had, but they are too high in fat and sugar for me to eat regularly.

I've been using the Myoplex Deluxe bars for a few months now, and they're probably the best nutritionally while still having a good taste and 30g of protein.

Hey, convenience of protein bars is my priority and then i would look at the price and the protein content. I don't like protein shakes because its embarassing to carry it around and drink it. The ignorant people always say "is that steroids"; not to mention amount of time it takes to make a shake. Im on a bulk diet anyway, but there's soy in it!

In my opinion, Promax's Oatrageous and Chef Jay's Tri-plex are the best mrp bars on the market. Especially the oatrageous bars because of their taste and low price.

The best bar I've found that has a good source of clean carbs is the Jay Robb Almond Energy Bar. It has all kinds of organic fruits and nuts, and pieces of dried yams (or sweet potatoes), and only sweetened with agave. It is sooooo good!

LucianoTKO, Are you serious about the Jay Robb Bars? THAT JUST SUCKS!!!! Thanks for the heads up. Now, I have an ish load of bars that I thought were not too bad for a bar. IYO, what's a good one? Any?
Thanks, Lollipop

I found a super clean carb bar made with organic fruits, organic almonds, and pieces of dried sweet potatoes (great source of carbs), sweetened only with agave syrup. It's made by Jay Robb and tastes awesome! They also have a powder made from sweet potatoes, tastes like sweet potatoe pie when mixed with vanilla protein powder!

I just bought the "Powerbar" 23 grams of protein. My only option because it's cheaper for me to go to a local Safeway then to buy it online. I haven't actually tried the "Powerbar", but i will as soon as i workout later tonight. It has a lot of vitamins at 100% DV, but i would like to have a bar that has vitamin D; as the "Powerbar" has none.

Anybody here ever try Instone's Stallone Pudding? 20g protein, 2g fat, 0 carbs...pretty good alternative protein source.

I'm about half way through a box of EAS Myoplex Carb Sense bars, and I'm really liking them. I'll have one of these about 2 hours before a wo sometimes. Reminds me of a Malted Milk bar.

Those Nitro-Tech bars aren't the tastiest things around. I prefer the Meso-Tech Complete bars (the chocolate chip oat or the apple cinnamon oat). Taste incredible if you nuke one for 10-14 seconds.

Calories, protein, carbs. All the stuff a MRP should be. MRP's are supposed to have calories, otherwise they'd just be a gawdawful snack bar.

Interesting that some of the MuscleTech bars are hated - which flavor and type of bar did you have?

I've had this one:
http://www.muscletech.com/PRODUCTS/MESO-Tech/BAR/COMPLETE/MESO_Tech_complete.shtml
(which is the "complete" bar in double chocolate flavor)

It is not as good as my previous favorites, ON Colossus Cookie and Apex Cookies, but it is similar in texture and general flavor. Has a bit of that "I'm a supplement bar!" taste, but I like the soft cookie texture and the lack of coating so it won't melt in my car or warm gym bag....

The best (tasting) protein bar is Oh Yeah's by ISS Research. They have the lowest sodium so as not to hold water, they have a seemingly high carb content (but you only keep 12 grams), and they taste great [referring to the peanut butter - caramel ONLY].

The Jay Robb bars. Fudge Brownie and Cashew Coconut both made with Xylitol, egg white protein, organic Almond butter or Cashew Butter, Unsweetened coconut (For Cashew Coconut), Almond pieces (For Fudge Brownie) arabic gum, water, natural flavor, organic agave syrup, organic brown rice crisps, organic brown rice, sea salt, organic brown rice syrup and soy lecithin. For Brownie Fudge About 220 Cal, 10g Fat, 1g Sat, Carb 27g, Fiber 6g, Sugar Alcohol (Xylitol) 16g, Protein 14g. THESE ARE ABSOLUTELY THE BEST BAR OUT THERE. Not alot of crap in them and the taste is WAY GOOD!

I ordered two boxes based on this suggestion. On paper they are great bars. I had no problems with the xylitol - it tastes very sweet. But, am now sending the remaining 23 bars back. I think they are awful. They taste like half-baked candy. Take a bite and your teeth grind the undissolved sweetener. The one I tried was the peanut butter version. I do not recommend these. They are very expensive.

I'll go back to Clif Builders, a great tasting bar. Only wish they used xylitol instead of so much sugar (chicory syrup - anyone have information on that?). Xylitol is great stuff as it actually has health benefits instead of detriments (sugars, syrups, etc. spike insulin levels, artificial sugars have too many negative side-effects/risks).

New poster, long-time reader... anyways, I was prowling the local 7-11 for a new bar last week, and I came across this great item that I haven't seen anywhere except this one store. It is in the BB.com store, so you could order it...

http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/pre/twist.html

I've never had a Take 5 bar, but I imagine these to be similar, but better for you, at least protein-wise. It's not the overall healthiest bar (would go with ISS Pro-42 for that) but it tastes fantastic. I'd go with the vanilla flavor, personally. The pretzel crunchiness really is a positive change from the dry chunkiness of most protein bars.

I'll be ordering a package to bring on my move, and probably another couple packages after, for snacks when I'm feeling like I've earned it.

That sure sounds like a shill, doesn't it? I guess I'm in the wrong profession.

If one is strictly concerned with taste the ISS Oh Yeah bars are simply unrivaled! If you put them up against a blind taste test with a typical candy bar there is absolutely no way you'd know the difference.

I am really looking forward to the new ISS waffer bars that are coming out, the chocolate waffer bar will only have 4g of carbs! 4g of total carbs! Man dieting will be a joke! lol.

Other honorable mentions are detour and morso's by optimum.

I've tried a couple of bars over the years, but am sticking to Universal Nutrition's Hi Protein bars these days - the chocolate brownie flavour is quite tasty and satisfies my sweet tooth.

Nutritional Facts:

Fat - 6g ( 3g saturated )

Carbs - 33g

made up of

Sugars - 1g

and

Sugar Alcohols - 26g ( I'm a bit confused about the effects of this - there are tons of people who don't like sugar alcohols, but as far as I understand, they are not anything like sugars at all - and have negligible effects on insulin levels )

Protein - 33g!!

I'm cutting right now ( have lost about 30lbs, retaining most of my muscle ), and have been using these bars regularly whenever I don't have time to eat a normal meal. In my opinion, they are very good value for the money.

All I've got to say is be careful if you eat a bunch of sugar alcohols at once. For some people, they can cause gastric distress (laxative effect).

If I eat more that 10g at once, I'm on the thrown for a half hour with cramps.

Other than that, they are fine. :)

Here is some more info on them. Very popular with low-carb dieters...

THe new VPX bars and AST bars are actually top notch .The sugar and protein is honestly is the only thing I really look at, the carbs etc if they are not from sugar I could really care less. For instance the Promax bars with have 30 some gs of sugar in is a bit much.In a rush etc they are fine but always its also easy to bring a shaker bottle with and just add water .

I haven't tried it yet so I can't judge the taste but from the ingredients/numbers, it seems like the best MRB that I've ever seen. 270 cal., 27g Protein, 25g of good carbs, 9g fiber, 10g of fat (only 1 saturated and 0 trans!). I'm really excited to try it and order a box real soon. Just thought I'd let you know that you should look into this product if you haven't already.

u should try some called pure protein, has like 20 grams of whey protein and only about 3 impact carbs (17 total, but most come from fiber and stuff like that doesn't have much impact on sugar levels) and about 4 grams of fat

my mom gets em for me at walmart, but ive seen them in a LOT of stores

I usually go with Detour to take with me at work (white chocolate are to die for), But I sometimes will pick-up a Pure Protein from the Gas station if I'm out and about. Any bar with less than 12 g of sugar I'm good with.

i've tried Myoplex Lite peanut butter crisp before, quite good...
and just today, i had Myoplex Lite Cinnamon Roll.

I thought it was quite tasty and got da crunch. Not very sticky and chewy.
Only if it had been less sweet, it'll be better..

There's quite a bit of sugar in there in relation to the amount of protein. They're great for a healthy snack, but not a protein supplement

A lot of these bars seem to be relatively high in saturated fat. I mean, 3 - 4 grams is not THAT much (but this is the low end of the scale), but seeing as these bars are just a small part of the daily food intake, shouldn't this be a concern?

I don't think anybody has mentioned them but Optimum Nutrition makes "Protein Diet Bars." The flavor with which I am most familar is fudge truffle. They leave an odd taste in my mouth, though. The nutritional info for this flavor is:

Calories -- 180
Total fat -- 2.5 g
Saturated fat -- 1.5 g
Cholesterol -- 5 mg
Sodium -- 200 mg
Total carbohydrate -- 19 g
Sugar -- 0 g
Sugar alcohol -- 18 g
Protein -- 20 gm (calcium caseinate, whey protein isolate, soy protein isolate)

(I know the saturated fat level is higher in the other flavors; I don't know about the other values)

Best nutritional bars: Tri-o-plex oatmeal, three sources of protein and less than 5 grams sat fat...blueberry muffin is the best

Best tasting bars: Anything by Labrada, especially their cookie bars, particularly apple cinnamon.

explain how it is 290 kcals with 35g protein, 2g carbs & 7g fat

35 X 4= 105
2 X 4= 8
7 X 9= 63

total of 176 calories. so either they are lying about their calories or they are hiding calories somewhere & not saying it.

I'd say it depends on the amount of sugar and protein in the bar, as well as the quality of the protein in the bar. But most importantly, whether bars are for you or not really depends on what your goals are.

I have ordered a box of the promax cookies and cream and have to say i am really sad I did :(. The bars themself have very good statistics for protein bars. I think they are over priced and taste awful. I ate one bar from the box and felt like I had to vomit. It also made me feel like I had a log in my stomach or something. I guess what I am looking for more is something more oats and grainy but high in protein? Im not much of a chocolate person and I was not expecting chocolate cookie dough. Not sure what im gonna do with the rest of them dont plan on eating anymore.

ok well i looked again, and i like the sources of carbohydrates, and the fat content, 1.5 saturated is outstanding. I guess i saw sodium caseinate and immediately assumed it was inferior to micellar casein, but if Uhockey says it is a quality source, i take his word for it.

Of course I'd have to tell you that it's much better to get your protein from a source that's less processed (like chicken, lean turkey, lean beef, etc). I really haven't come across a protein bar that I like all that much. One word of advice though, stay away from any bar that is loaded with sugar alcohol. You'll have gastrointestinal distress like you wouldn't believe.
