I've read through and I see 1,000 different bars listed. I'm looking for a good rich in protein bar, to get me closer to my 150-200g per day. I've been having 2 protein shakes at 25g/pc and a bar that had another 20 or so would make it alot easier for me to reach my goal.

I have only tried a few of the bars in the grocery store that all claim big protein numbers and delicious taste! I find them all to be bland, or disgusting tasting and not even resembling choclate, or peanut butter, etc.

Is there and bar that REALLY does taste good enough to stomach every day? Let me rephrase that... is there any bar that is actually enjoyable? Without being unhealthy in sugars, that is?

Hi everyone!

This is my first post here. I'm very glad to have found bodybuilding.com - I'm very satisfied with the customer service & the product range.

So regarding the best tasting bar - in my opinion it is:
Met-Rx Big 100 Colossal Bars
Also, their nutritional facts sound good as well.

The one bar I would never ever order again is Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex bars. I didn't like the taste at all, but I guess that's a matter of personal taste.
I had ordered the bars from the store I previously used to order, they were NOT past their expiration date.

A couple of days ago, I ate such a bar.. well, about half of it. It had a weird consisteny, different than the others from the same pack. Suddenly, I realized the bar was moving... It was full of little living mealworms or something.
I read in here that it is said that their nutritional facts are fake.. well, this one certainly had quite some proteins, just not the ones I'm looking for to eat.. :)

I guess this can always happen with foods containing (oat)meal. It was just a very bad experience for me, and for me personally that's a reason to throw the rest of the pack away, and never ever eat Chef Jay's again.

Just wanted to share, and I'm curious to hear whether anyone else had the same experience...

Ultimate Nutrition killed it with their new meal bar. The only thing that compares nutritionally is the zero impact bars, which still remain supreme in that area but are way too freakin dry for my tastes.

http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/un/isomealxtrememealreplacementbar.html

Enough calories to actually warrant being called a "meal replacement". Loaded with protein, complex carbs from oats (ftw!), health fats, and fiber. Not loaded with sugar or vastly inferior soy proteins (Yes, I'm talking to you Labrada). The chocolate peanut butter is crazy good, and it really does have the moist consistency of a cookie rather then that of candy bar or anything else.

I tried 12, Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex Duo Bars, Box Of Caramel Peanut Butter for the first time,; but, as for the taste, is good.
It was a place to be worried about that caramel melted as for me.
I feel that Chef Jay's Tri-O-Plex Duo Bars, Box Of bursting Peanut Butter is suitable for myself most.

Supreme Protein bars...no sh!t, they are THAT good tasting, just like a candy bar. I like the Peanut Butter Crunch the best, followed closely by Carmel Nut, then Rocky Road. Have an order from bb.com coming in today with a box of each, plus the new Cookies N Creme that I haven't tried yet, but here it's good too.

And what do you mean "unhealthy in sugars"? A little sugar and saturated fat here and there is fine.

Nothing wrong with a little saturated fat in your diet....good for testosterone production from what I understand.

From the ones I've tried, my favorite:

Best tasting - Met-Rx Colossal Apple Pie
Best nutritional profile, though kinda bland (but this is what I buy on a regular basis) - VPX Zero Impact (all 3 flavors are good)

I would have to say that Vpx's zero impact bars would be the best without a doubt. The fats in it are from efa's (sesmin, cla, almond butter) and the carbs are low gi. Also i have not seen many bars with quality whey protein and the main source in this bar is wpi.

Pure Protein - Most of the negatives lie in the chocolate coating. The protein used there is the concentrate type and the sugar alcohol is maltitol, 10 grams, of which about seven count as simple sugars. The overall simple sugar count is 10 grams, which is too much, and not 3 grams as the profile states. Maltitol is the sweetest of the polyols and is only slightly 'better' than regular simple sugars. I also don't understand the inclusion of soy protein isolate in a bar that is sold as helping to build muscle.

I eat them but I am trying to cut down. Looking for healthier alternatives.

By far the best tasting bars for meal replacement and protein are the Met-RX big 100 colossal bars. My favorite is the peanut butter pretzel. They are such a treat to eat.
These are big bars with 400+ calories and 30 grams of protein that makes them perfect for an in between meal for a BB diet. They are great for breakfast on the go and they are just so good.

Over a period of 11 years I have tried many, many bars. My favorite ones now are the "Oh Yeah" Creamy Vanilla & Caramel flavor, next is the"Muscle Milk Bars" Vanilla Toffee Crunch flavor, followed by the "Power Crunch" Cinnamon Bun flavor.
My overall favorite was a "Met Rx" Super Vanilla flavor; which is no longer made. I am always looking for others. The best only stays my favorite for a few months at a time.
As you can see I do not much care for chocolate.

If you're looking for a protein bar with super low carbs (and no sugar, glycerin or sugar alcohols) that is also low calorie and has enough fiber to keep you full during dieting the best choice is Quest protein bars.

They're only sold online but they are as delicious as hell.

The only place I've found them is on their main website.

Just do a search for "quest protein bars" .

Quest protein bars would be the best way to go... they are about 220 calories, LOW CARB and I mean truly low carb... NO sugar alcohols, NO sugar (the only sugar in them is from nuts), there is no soy, it's got 20 grams of high quality protein, lots of fiber to keep you full, and the fat comes from nuts and nut butter ONLY... You just can't find a bar on the market as clean as Quest protein bars.

My trainer suggested the Apex Chocolate Iced Brownie because I have a chocolate addiction and this is helping me transition into the meal plan he set for me. :-) I have one each morning for breakfast -- apparently it has more protein than two eggs. I don't like eggs so this is a good way for me to get protein and it doesn't hurt that it's made with real Hershey's chocolate! I recommend heating it in the microwave for 10 seconds and enjoying with a glass of 1% milk. Yum!

Best protein bar I have tried, "Heathsmart". They have a varity of bars, so far I have tried the Peanut butter (nutrition=calories 100 calories from fat35 total fat 4 sat.fat2 trans.0 carb 18 fiber 10 sugar 0 sugar alch.4 protein 9 Also Cashew caramel cal. 115 cal from fat 55 total fat 6 carb 18 fiber 10 sugar 1 protein 9. site says cal 95, but my counts are correct. I have to watch carbs, sugar, fat and cholesterol so these bars are great, love the taste the cashew one is a little high for me, so next time will order the peanut butter and cookies and cream and choc fudge all these only have the 95 cal. Just hope Bodybuilding will start to carry more of the healthsmart line, soups other chocolites etc. Don't forget to subtract the fiber and sugar from the carb to get the actual carb count(say peanut butter has 18carbs, subtract the 10 fiber and it only has actually 8 carbs. Hope this helped someone!! pat

Agreed! I just got a box of the roasted coconut. Just as good as the pumpkin spice, which is also very good. I'm going to have to try Chocolate PB next. Each bar is large enough to be kind of like two bars in one. I usually eat a half of bar at a time to tide my appetite over until I can get home and eat a regular meal.

The absolute best Protein Bars I've ever tried are the ones from Greens+, aptly named High Protein Food Bar. I feel these bars are superior to all the others mainly because of the fact they are all-natural, with no hidden additives or preservatives, as well as the fact they are so healthy, providing 1.5 grams of Omega 3, as well as 20 grams of Whey Protein Isolate. True, they look like cold-pressed pieces of pigeon turds, but you can't argue with the great peanut butter taste. I give these bars my full recommendation, 110%. A must for any serious health-conscious bodybuilder.

I have finally found my dream protein bar! This bar tastes great compared to the many others that I've tried, and at just 190 calories, 9g of fat, 13g of carbs, and 15g of protein, it is a great post-workout snack. I highly recommend this brand!

For me, it's Pure Protein bars. They're cheap, taste good, and have 20g of protein. Plus I can get them at the wal-mart near my house, which is always an interesting adventure. Going there makes me feel a lot better about myself too =). I really like the peanut butter flavor, but my store rarely stocks them, so I get the smores flavor sometimes, and it's pretty good. Snickers marathon bars taste really good too, but they're only 13g.

2:1 protein bars seem to deliver the most protein per calorie - the Oatmeal flavor is 32g of protein at 250 calories. Taste is pretty good, and it has a nice chocolate coating.

I haven't tried the White Chocolate Crisp yet, but it's 30g of protein at 230 calories. Both are sold from the BB.com store.

My favorite on the go protein bars are Linny Mac, by Galaxy Brands. They come in 2 sizes: Regular bar or Midgets (half a bar for portion control). They are a crispy peanut butter and are:
* Gluten free
* Low Sodium
* High Fiber
* Low Glycemin
* High Protein
* All Natural
* 200 Calories

I've tried so many bars but keep coming back to these. My husband & kids are eating them too - tough to keep in stock.

I`d seriously consider the banana bread. I think it would have potential to be as good as the cinnamon roll.

DedicatedDad
08-22-2010, 09:33 AM
Titan/Supreme/All Max use sugar alcohol's primarily. NOT SUGAR. Effects your body differently. Besides a 'regular' candy bar doesn't have 30 g of protein, and has more fat. I wouldn't live off them, but a couple per week hasn't hurt.

I just ordered a box of Met-Rx Protein Plus Food Bars in Chocolate Chocolate Chunk.

I tried one today and it was pretty good but since I was afraid of it melting I left it in a cold room and it was pretty hard on my teeth. I chose this bar because I'm training for soccer and I don't want too much mass nor calories. It has 32g of protein for 310 calories which is a good meal replacement for me on my rest days.

Is there any other bars that would be good for soccer players out there that have little calories and sufficient protein and or carbs?

I also take Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey Protein in Double Rich Chocolate. I've been thinking of getting Optimum Nutrition 100% Casein Protein in Banana Cream but I'm reluctant because I'm not sure of the taste and price. Any thoughts or maybe free samples for a soccer player in professional training in France?

I have to say that aside from the fact that we use high quality protein sources, most of which is CFM whey isolate, our Supreme Protein bars taste like true candy bars. The taste, texture, and quality is second to none. AND, our brand was awarded the bb.com "Protein Bar of the Year" the last 2 years. If you haven't already, you should try them to see what the excitement's about. Here's the link:

I personally make my own protein bars. The reason being, I find most market protein bars to be high priced, full of sugar, loaded with additives and preservatives or disguised with sugar alcohol. This is the little recipe I made and absolutely love.

Ingredients needed:
Whey protein
Oats
Dried fruit
Honey
Water

Mix the dry ingredients into a bowl, and choose a dry fruit to add (I personally love cranberries). Once well mixed add the honey until it becomes a sticky mixture. Add a Tbsp of water and continue to mix. Put the mixture into a pan, making sure it is evenly covered (Once in the pan, the mixture should be approx. 1" high fromt he bottom). Then simply put it in the fridge for 24hrs, cut and enjoy.

Tip: You can cut the mixture into bar shape before you put it in the fride. This prevents it from crumbling if you try cutting it once its dry.

Quest Protein Bars.

If you havent tried them out, you should.

Great macros and the ingredients are unrivaled

Ingredients:
Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolate, Milk Protein Isolate), Chicory Root Fiber, Almond Butter, Dry Roasted Almonds, Raw Almonds, Water, Natural Flavors, Sea Salt, Lo Han Guo, Sucralose.

I tried the Quest Bars a couple weeks ago and they're pretty darn good. In comparison to some of these other bars, the quest bars seem to have better nutritional facts. Had both the vanilla and peanut butter flavors. Both are nice tasting but I prefer the vanilla slightly more because of the stronger almond flavor. I am considering buying some of their bars right now.

What are everyone's opinions on sugar alcohols?? Do all low carb bars contain them?

They still count as carbs. They just have a lower cal/g than normal carbs. Typically 2-3cal/g vs 4 cal/g like normal sugar would.

I have no issues with them and think it's a good way to make a bar taste better for less effective cals.

I've read that some bars use the sugar alcohol glycerine, which actually has even MORE calories per gram than normal sugar does (4.3 calories per gram if I'm not mistaken)

The Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist was my favorite until we came out with the Peanut Butter & Jelly. Now, the PB&J is my favorite. It's sick how good it is. We will be getting them in our warehouse the 10th of February and shipping right away to bb.com so stay tuned! Thanks for your support!

Peanut Butter Pretzel Twist is really the best tasting bar I've ever tried period. The only problem with me for the Protein Supreme bars is the sugar alcoholos in them, maltitol, do not agree with me. I also understand that maltitol is one of the sweetest and most caloric of the sugar alcohols.

The O'Yeah Protein Wafers, when taken with a good micro nutrient source, is the best in the low carb department for meal replacement. They have some carbs and I do notice weight gain if I eat too many, but they are great tasting, contain NO sugar alcohols and just 6-8g of carbs in a 200 cal serving. Now they are not as crispy as a confectioner vanilla wafer (those cheap layered cookies in the grocery store) and I see people complain that they don't taste EXACTLY like those. I think they taste better but don't expect an identical match since the confectioner is mainly sugar and the O' Yeah is mainly protein and fats. Most of the flavors are really good. Favorites are vanilla, vanilla peanut butter, choc peanut butter, and peanut butter cup.

I am still on Pure Protein, too. I almost picked up some supreme protein carb conscious bars, but the calorie count on the ones that I saw were way high. Any advice on those would be nice, but right now Pure protein and keeping calories under 200 on a bar with 20g's of protein that is also edible is pretty sweet imo.

Since my goal is to lose fat and gain muscle I want a protien bar that is low in sugar and carbs and has a decent ammount of protien. I like the "Pure Protien" bars that are sold at Walmart and Sam's Club. They have 200 calories, 6fat, 20protien, 16carbs, and 2sugars. I use them between meals and they give me a long lasting feeling of fullness. I have noticed that with the bars that are high in carbs I get hungry really quick after eating one. They also taste great!

Quest Bars. No junk, just good quality ingredients.

Tons of current bars on the market are just candy bars with protein thrown in.

another pure protein bar eater.

they taste real awesome, just like a candy bar except much much chewier. even though it tastes good, if u look at the ingredients, it is definitely no the best protein bar out there. it contains like hydrolyzed collagen which is supposedly like the cheapest incomplete form of protein.

haven't eaten one since finding that out. the best protein bar nutrition wise is quest bar for sure. cleanest protein bar out there and tastes quite good as well.

Homemade! Ingredients = Myofusion (chocolate), honey, oats, Natural PB, cocao powder, skim milk. Now if that isn't simple ingredients then I don't know what is. Easy to whip up, cheap, tasty as all h*ll if you like no-bake style treats and you can use any kind of choco whey I just think Myofusion is best. They taste SO good. (Btw PM me if you want my recipe.)

Anyways, that's a best case scenario and doesn't really help with this thread.. If I need something and I'm out of homemade bars then Supreme Protein bars are the way to go. It's scary how good they are, Always keep a box around just in case ;)

I like the 2:1 bars and the Dr.Carbrite. I microwave the later and they come out really good with some Greek Yogurt. I just wish BB.Com would get the other flavors because the Brownie is alright and the S'mores, while tasty, is nothing to cure a marshmallow urge by any means. The profile is pretty good; 21g protein, 2.5 net carbs (or less on some flavors), and between 190-200 calories.

The lemon meringue is amazing, as are the choco-banana-soynut, Raspberry Truffle, and Blueberry. The real stars are the Cookie Dough and the Cinnamon Bun. When I found out the Labrada Cookie Roll bars had mono-diglycerides in them, I switched to these and haven't looked back since. As a side note, the Choco-Peanut butter is not very peanut buttery at all, but it tastes fine and has a good profile. But I would never recommend it to cure a PB fixation.

Supreme Protein bars are also good stuff, but I've been avoiding some because PB-Pretzel has some trans fats in the coating last time I checked. Shame because those were DELICIOUS!!! I'm going to order the PB-J bars though; they sound incredible!

The Oh Yeah bars and Supreme Protein bars are by far the best I've tried and I've tried a lot. They cost a little more than some but its worth it. I was skeptical of the PB&J flavor from Supreme Protein but it was so hyped I tried it and love it. The smaller bars are great for between meal snacks or anytime you get a little hungry. Personally I don't worry about the fat content because if you're following a decent diet you're probably not getting that much fat anyway. I would highly recommend any variety from either of these two brands.

Been using these for about 4-5 years now. Best overall package- Price, taste, and nutrition. Granted, some are better tasting, some may be cheaper, but few, if any, can match the nutrition. There are candy bars, protein bars, and then there is Zero Impact.

There are several bars that have good taste, but my main complaint with them is how large they are. For some I feel like I am eating a burger trying to get my mouth around it. I have tried quite a few, but my favorite right now would be the Promax Energy Bars. There a decent size, but not too small or big. My favorite flavors are the Cookies n' Cream, Double Fudge Brownie, and the Chocolate Peanut Crunch. Each of them taste very good and have 20 grams of protein and under 300 calories each. They are great for a small meal replacement or something to snack on during the day at work.

Zero Impact bars are by far the best Protein Bars I've come across. They are made with the most natural ingredients over any other protein bar. The cholesterol is 5mg or less. The majority of fat is composed of healthy fats and has low saturated fat. The majority of carbs the bar contains are complex. The PB&J has a slightly high sugar count but the Pumpkin is in my opinion the overall best for you and tastiest. VPX definitely gets the award for overall best quality and nutritious protein bar. Zero Impact for the win

The problem with most protein bars is the number of carbs. Power Crunch bars are not only so fantastically delicious, they only have 10g of carbs. I was only getting a few of the flavors because I loved them but my friend gave me samples of the other flavors. Well! Now, I just can't decide which ones I like best. They are ALL amazing! At 200 calories, I have 1 or 2 per day.
