View Full Version : How to incorporate Oly lifts into a 5x5?

I have been doing this routine:

I have been doing Oly lifts on Sunday, which has been going alright, but I do cleans first, and then I am too burned out to go 100% on the snatch.

So my question is, what can I do without totally changing my routine (I would like to develop a good strength/size base before I focus all my attention on Oly lifts, whcih I intend to do eventually)

Should I do cleans first one sunday, then snatches first the next, and alternate?

Or should I do the movements on seperate days?

Drop the rows and do snatch, c&j, squat, bench.

should I do Snatch one day and Clean and Jerk another? OR both twice a week?


And does it matter what order I do the lifts in?

Do both. You don't have to do 5x5 on those, you can do 2 or 3 sets each. That way your workouts shouldn't be much longer. Snatch should always be first, followed by C&J. You can do bench before squat if you want.

Alright thanks for your help. This is what I've decided on

Monday: Squat 5x5
Bench 5x5
Snatch I have no idea what rep ranges, maybe 3x3 or something like that?

Clean and Jerk- same as snatch, maybe 3x3, open to suggestions

Wednesday: Squat 4x5
Military Press 4 x 5
Deadlift 4 x 5
Row 5x5

Friday: Squat 4x5 1x3 1x8
Bench 4x5 1x3 1x8
Snatch same as monday, just not sure what rep ranges
Clean and Jerk same as Monday, not sure what rep ranges

sunday, Tuesday, Thursday: rest, gpp, or plyometrics

Any suggestions

especially with what reps to go for on the Oly lifts?

I would do snatch and cleans before the squats in the 5 x 5 maybe for 5 sets of anywhere from triples to singles.

Haha, I asked my oly coach if I should do cleans before snatches and everyone in the room just laughed at me... I took it as a no. So if you're too burnt out to do snatches after cleans then I would suggest doing cleans after snatches.
