Where do you live?

Anyways Remington & Ruger make good bolt action rifles. Savage also makes a decent weapon for the money.

Plenty of great manufacturers out there, depends on what you are looking to do with the rifle.

Did you lose any guns when they changed the laws?

LOL...It kills me when I hear this over and over...."for the money, Savage..."
...for ANY money Savage will shoot as well and as accurate as ANY over the counter bolt action rifle...and I'm not talking custom rifles but those like the Winchester, Remington, Browning, etc.
Seems people tend to look down on them because you can get one for a reasonable price.

Do you think AU will get some better politicians in office that will reverse the new laws anytime soon or are the Aussies stuck with them?

Aussies are brainwashed mate. Start a thread on why we need less gun control and the aussies here will argue gang members go to the gun club to buy guns.

There was a guy on here with regard to the riots saying the reason the middle eastern gang members could only get single shotters(technically semi auto pistols is what he meants) was because of our strict gun laws.

we have a very low gun ownership rate.

IRONICALLY. the nerd Kevin Rudd is into sport shooting. ill post a pic. but i wonder whether he wants all aussie gun owners to hand our guns in and have them all stored at the gun shop not at home.

They are good weapons but I think the quality isn't among the best.

I've a Savage 300Mag and my friend has a Savage .17

Fine and accurate weapons, however they aren't "top quality" IMO.

Of course thats just my opinion on them.

hey homer, would you happen to know the laws regarding gun licenses in western australia? im thinking of joining my local shooting complex in the near future, I believe I can purchase a weapon as long as I keep it stored at the shooting range?? I'm not entirely sure though there doesn't seem to be a lot of information on the topic.

thanks in advance
edit: btw my local shooting complex is also a firearms dealer.

hi bro.

rifles shotguns r easier to get. i think wa differs from qld u need to be 1 year in a pistol club before u can get a pistol licence.

not sure about WA but we can store guns at home in Qld and other states. the main thing is. Having a person you know for 12 months no-relative,etc. to sight forms for you. It may take a while but i suggest spend an hour a week filling out the paper work and be patient dont get bogged down in it.

GOOGLE:
ssaa- sporting shooters australia.

australianhunting.net - a lot of cranky old ****s there try to word your posts respectfully and good spelling but it is the biggest best aussie gun site.

top site go there.

apparently WA has the most **** anal coppers tho. they still have to let you get a gun tho they just might be useless ****s take ages to process.

u dont wanna keep it at the shooting range unless u have to. It is a pain if u r up at 3am to go for a bush shoot n the club is closed.

THIS IS QLD RULES IT MAY BE SIMILAR BUT IS THE BEST EXPLANATION.

he following steps will guide you through the process;

Rifle Licence Category A & B

*

Step 1.

You will need a genuine reason to obtain a Category A & B Firearms Licence. If you become a Member of S.S.A.A.
you can then list your genuine reason as Sports & Target Shooting and Recreation & Hunting, as we are an approved
body prescribed under the law. Anyone who is already a member can help you or contact your local S.S.A.A. Branch.

*

Step 2.

Contact your nearest S.S.A.A. Branch Safety Course Instructor, and book in for a 30195QLD Weapons Act Safety
Course.

(The State Office can also assist you to contact a S.S.A.A. Safety Course Instructor in your area.)

All S.S.A.A. (QLD) Inc. Instructors have attained the Certificate 4 in Workplace Training and Assessment.

As it takes time for your Membership Card to arrive, and you need proof of Membership of an Association to apply for a license, we suggest you Join Now.

*

Step 3.

When you have completed your Safety Course we will post to you a 'Statement of Attainment' this is your proof that you have successfully completed the Safety Course. A copy of this will be needed when you apply for your licence. While you are waiting for this to arrive go to your nearest photo shop and have 2 passport size photos taken, as these will have to be supplied with your application.

*

Step 4.

When you have everything you need go to the Police Station nearest you and ask for an 'Application for a License' Form 1 and a 'Proof of Identity' Form 30, or download them from the Queensland Police Service Website. Fill these in and pay the fees, the police station will then send them to Weapons Licensing Branch where they will be processed. Have patience, as they will only be processed after 28 days.

*

Step 5.

When your licence arrives, you can then decide which firearm best suits your needs. Different types (we call them Disciplines) of shooting require different types of firearms, so try all the Disciplines that your Branch has, then decide on the firearm you want - don't make a hasty decision. When you have decided what you need, visit or call Your Gun Shop.

Handgun Licence Category H

*

Step 1.

Obtaining a handgun licence is different to the steps you need to get a rifle licence. Just being a member of S.S.A.A. is not enough, you need to be a member of a 'Pistol Section' of a S.S.A.A. Branch, or an 'Approved Club', most S.S.A.A. Branches have a pistol section. To join this 'Approved Club' you have to go to the Police Station and ask for a 'Pre Approval' application form, Form Q515. You fill this in and lodge it at the Police Station. Weapons Licensing Branch will process the form and send you back a letter authorising you to join a Club.

*

Step 2.

When the letter comes back, you can then join the Pistol Section of a Branch. The Branch will advise you on what is required to join. You are now on probation for 6 months. During that time you have to attend a minimum of 3 Branch Competition Shoots, these shoots will be recorded on your Participation Record Card that the Branch will issue you when you join. At any time within the 6 months you can do a 30195QLD Weapons Act Safety Pistol Course, then when your 6 months are up you can apply for your licence.

*

Step 3.

After you have sent your application form in, it will be processed after 28 days. So have patience.

*

Step 4.

Enjoy your sport.

Thanks a heap for all that info, I'll definately follow up on it.
My cousin actually has his license but he doesn't live in the city and had to get some owners of large properties to write letters authorising him to use his rifles on their land. Thanks again though for the information, its much appreciated.

that is the better way to go if u have farmer contacts. u dont even have to use their land.

option 1:
join sporting shooters pay $70 a year go shooting minum 2-4 times a year at the range.

option 2:
get a farmer's letter. cost nothing no minimum amount of shoots. dont need to join ssaa. just every 5 years or whatever u need to renew the licence and might need a new current letter from a farmer.

if u rent it might be a problem installing a safe. you could not bolt it in but fill the safe with weights. There is a legal unknown because sometimes they say the weight of a safe needs to be 150kg + if u dont bolt it down and sometimes it is empty weight so u cant put weights in the bottom.

all this can b explained better on australianhunting.net
