HI ladies. I have a friend who is concerned about her size, she thinks shes is too small. She is 17 yrs. old, 5'6, 112. She thinks she looks too skinny and wants to gain a little weight but not necessarily fat, or too much muscle just weight. I still thinks she looks fine, but she begs to differ. Any advice for her(diet supps, etc.)?

I would just tell her to slightly increase her calories with more healthy foods. I don't think she really needs supplements if she is only 17 and isn't really looking to gain much. Does she currently eat healthy and/or eat enough?? Does she do any weight training?? Maybe have her slowly up her calories with a few extra snacks per day and add some basic weight training if she is isn't already. It doesn't sound like she needs to do anything too drastic in my opinion since she is so young.

She is in Drill Team, and she runs on occasion. I have already recommended weight training.

At 5'6 and 112 I agree with her - she is on the skinny side...
At her age she does not need supplements, and she doesn't need a specific 'diet' - she just needs to make sure she is eating healthy foods and she is eating enough to make her gain a little mass.
Lots of vegetables, lean proteins (seafood, chicken, turkey, eggs etc), high fibre carbs (whole grains, legumes, sweet potato), fruits, nuts and seeds (walnuts and linseeds esp) and skim dairy (very important for her bones at her age).
If she slowly increases the amount she eats then she will not gain excessive fat. I would also suggest she start some form of resistance training -as this will help with partitioning the incoming energy towards muscle (although her sport will help her out in that regards too).
