Man I had to stop watching the game with about 5 mins left in the 3rd. I'm rooting for Hedberg. I liked him when he was in Van but he didn't get a fair shake from Crawford. What's the goaltending situation like down there? He's your no. 1 now or?

I think Lehtonen's hurt (again), maybe the Atlanta guys can confirm that. Thrash are 4-2 under Waddell now though. How's Bryan Little playing for you guys? He's from around my parts, awesome junior player.
Looks like a mutiny in Vancouver against Vigneault if they're not careful. First Naslund criticizes "the system," now Mitchell gets called out in the media and is none too pleased (don't blame him).

so how'd that game turn out, anyway?
Man we lost in shootout. Just a poorly played game by the team. Props to the trashers though.

I missed Kovy in the shootout... did he score??? ;)
Yes, it was very easy for him...what a player.

1) generate a little more offence than 16 shots, 3 in the 3rd
2) fire the coach
3) Allow Garon to play more than 1 in 5 games.
Torres is looking good. Too bad about Matt Greene. Looks like he broke his ankle. Could be out for like 8 weeks if its broken.

Kari Lehtonen has had a groin issue for 3 years now... that continuously flares up. Lastyear he was able to play through without any major isssues... but you can difinitely tell it will be reoccurring throughout his carreer. Kari has also earned a reputation for coming into camp a little bit out of shape and disregards conditioning as a neccessary part of his offseason work.
He has the tools to be a great one... but he is lazy and injury prone. Hedberg is a capable fill-in guy for the short-term, and has played decently so far.

As always, I agree with you on all points. I don't think they're even averaging over 20 shots a game. Not going to win many games if that keeps up. I agree that Garon should be seeing more ice time. A 3/2 split every 5 games would be good. If they don't I think Rollie will hit the wall and crash like he did last year.
Was disappointed to hear about Greene for the simple fact that the D is already depleted with the Pitkanen and Souray injuries. Not a big fan of Greene otherwise.
If they can take anything from the game last night, for all the teams faults, they were at least able to stick with the Red Wings right until the end. It's just too bad they couldn't have gotten at least 1 point out of it.

Greene is a tough bastartd. A few years ago he was leaving a club here in Edm and was hit by a car! He got up and walked away almost injury free. I believe he only missed 1 game! Like him or not he adds a element of toughness on our backend. Something we need since the trading away of Gator.
And your right, it's too bad we couldn't have atleast got a point from last nights game.

What is the deal with Canaidan teams? They do good one year then suck for the next couple. The only team that hasn't sucked the year after making it to the cup finals is Ottawa. Calgary seems to be picking it up again though. Toronto always sucks and always will. Don't pay much attention to the habs, i just assume they suck as well. Oilers were good then sucked last year and aren't doing so great this year. Vancouver was never really great but they weren't bad either. I haven't really noticed how they are doing this year.
Well they better not use the dollar for an excuse anymore. Plus they all sell out there home games so the capital is there to pay for the talent.
The players must not want to play in a Hockey hotbed. There is imense pressure on a NHL player who plays in a Canadian city. case in point is Lupul. he gets traded to Edmonton last year after scoring almost 30 goals the year earlier and was lucky to get 1/2 last year. way too much pressure.
The players must rather play in a US city and be under the radar.

but still. most players are Canadian and should be use to the ****ty winters and being in the big leagues was their life long dream. They should want to play for a Canadian team where they get more suport and fans than any where else.

The Canuck's style of play is to win games by a very small margin. There D has been less than satisfactory which is causing them to drop a few games. Like last year, I expect them to figure stuff out and play the system more effectively. Canucks are really hurting up front and in need of a top line goal scorer :(

I disagree. I could list off the players from the Canes team, except that wouldnt really accomplish anything as this is really just my opinion. But I will say this. Cam Ward was the hotter goalie in the 06 series because Roloson was injured. Had Rolo not been injured the Oil WOULD have beat the Canes!

Crazy trade rumour for you Oil fans. The source isn't the most reliable, I heard it on a local rock station, and I didn't hear them provide a specific source, just that it was "going around." So with that disclaimer, apparently Jagr isn't fitting in too well with the new Rangers guys and is on the block. EDM and the Habs are said to be interested, with EDM as the clear frontrunners! Could be good, someone for Hemsky to feed the puck to, since he refuses to shoot the thing himself.

Actually, last year during the trade deadline, the rumour was there as well. KLowe and Slats go way back and to hear it again doesnt surprise me. I can see Robbie Schremp, 1st rd and Horcoff leaving i a deal like this.(Not spreading any rumours)

I don't think they have a 1st, but they certainly have a sh*tload of prospects. That should be enough to get a deal done. I still think they need another centre though, Horcoff and Stoll are both #2's on contending teams IMO.

True that Stoll and Horcoff are 2nd on another team, we have a ton of Centers, especially if we were to get Jagr, thats why IMO, we would trade 1 of the 2.

It is an awesome deal, but Jagr's got a rep for dogging it when he's not happy with the team/system, so if that's the case, it'd be best to move him while his value is still high.

BIEKSA PROGNOSIS WORSENS
The post-surgery prognosis on injured defenceman Kevin Bieksa could be worse than first feared.
Not only was Bieksa's calf lacerated Thursday against Nashville, it's believed the upper Achilles tendon of the Vancouver Canucks defenceman may also have been cut. That could lengthen the rehab process from two to four months. Bieksa remains immobilized in a cast up to his thigh.

So much for that W, eh? You've got to think that one of these times the Oil are going to be able to break down Bakstrom. Don't understand why they can't beat him. He did make a couple amazing saves though last night. Granted, you don't win many games when you give up four powerplay goals. Jokinen's goal was sweet. Anyone see the hit Brashear got a game misconduct for? Ridiculous. I'm all for taking the dangerous hits out of the game, but not to the extent that hockey loses its element of physicality. Hockey without hitting is not hockey at all. It's ringette with a blade.

Hottest team in the NHL. But they'll have it tough to represent the East again as Carolina is looking good too. So much for the rivalry between the Leafs and Sens. A rivalry needs to be close.

Tough loss for the Oilers last night. In the end they can be happy they got at least a point out of it. That was a crazy first period once the goals started flying. Was pretty quiet the rest of the game. I think overall most of the team played really well. The vets stepped up, the rookies continue to meet expectations, Rollie (after the first goal) looked pretty solid and hell, they even scored a PP goal. Hopefully they can build on the good effort and put a string of good games together.

I had a good laugh over that with my wife because I told her the only reason he scored was that Budaj was so shocked that Hemsky shot the puck that he didn't know what to do.

Yup Canucks dominated the first 2 periods and then were short handed for 7.5 minutes of the first 10 minutes of the third period. That's been the story of the Canuck's last few seasons though... they dominate a period but don't have anything to show for it on the score board.

At the all-star gave have a penalty-shot contest like the NBA has a slam dunk contest. Make it a fun event with celebs as the judges. The shooters don't necessarily have to be playing in the all-star game either. Guys can be used just for that specific event. I love that idea and think it'd be pretty sweet.

Save for the takedown at the end, I thought it was pretty even. Plus Avery was fighting with a ring on (wtf?)
Apparently in the pre-game scrum something was said by Avery about Blake that led to Tucker's reaction, if it was about his cancer than he's a total POS. I'm all for saying almost anything to get in an opponent's head, but there are a few things that are off limits. Tucker called him classless for what he said, so if TUCKER questions someone's class, it must've been bad :D

I completely agree, unless the reports about the cancer thing are true. Chirping can cross the line, and that would be one thing. Apparently Berger is backing off his story now though, so who knows? Avery does have more skill than he's credited for, he was really good in the OHL.

There's a maximum number of inductees allowed per year, and you couldn't really exclude any of the four that got in. Bure should get in next year if there's any justice.
Armstrong gone? I would've thought Tippett would be the fall guy first, with the Stars lack of playoff success recently. The new GM needs to get some scoring for that team ASAP. They're rock solid defensively though.

Bure lived up to all of the hype that surounded him. He came into the league and no1 had seen a player like him. No1 could touch him. He was faster than anyone in the game and he could do things with the puck at those speeds that others couldn't do at all. He lead the canucks to a Stanly cup finals. If he had a better team around him they could have won it. He won the calder. He had back to back 60 goal seasons. He had some injuries and was traded to Florida where he scored 58 goals then 59 the next season. He lived up to his potential. He was an amazing player and should be in the HHOF

The best story is how Bure was drafted. He fell to really late in his draft year, because everyone thought he wasn't eligible until the next year, where he was expected to go first overall. But the Canucks Asst. GM uncovered some game sheets that proved he had played a couple mor games than everyone thought, making him eligible that year. So they got a grade A talent really late. Hope that guy got a nice bonus.
F*ckin McCabe blew it again last night. Us Leaf fans have learned to accept some bad in order to get his offense, but it's been ridiculous this year. He's gotten bad overnight it seems. He was never the best D-man, but was always a very useful one. One thing's for sure though, Carey Price IS the real deal. I thought they made a mistake drafting him so high, but he's proving me wrong. Really composed and technically sound. He's gonna be one of the best in the league in a couple years, count on it. Couldn't resist: The Price Is Right Bi*ch!

Ya, Bure had an interesting life. I read a book about him. I found it really cool. His dad was a olympian and pushed him hard to become the best he could be at hockey. He was put into hockey programs at a young age and was competeing against men at a young age. He was making more money as a kid then adults were making. It was still next to nothing tho. When he got drafted all of the other teams were pissed and thought that he wasn't going to able to play even after he got drafted.
All leafs suck. Price is amazing. I always thought he belonged where he is. I just wish he didn't play for the Habs because i don't like them.

Bure and Anderson both deserve to be in the HHOF. With the players (Yzerman etc.) that become eligible next time they both might have to wait a bit, but I believe sooner or later they'll get in. Man I still remember going to Bure's first game in a Vancouver uniform. Everytime he got the puck the crowd would stand up in anticipation and excitement.
And McCabe sucks. He sucked ass when he was in Vancouver and he sucks ass now. 6 mill per year... lawl. I don't understand why laff fans are so suprised. They keep going in the same useless cycle headed by JFJ overpaying old washed-up players. Not good enough to do anything in the playoffs but not ****ty enough to get high draft picks and properly rebuild.

Toronto Maple Leafs rookie centre 19-year-old Jiri Tlusty has issued a statement expressing regret that nude photos of him have been circulating on the Internet.
The photographs were apparently taken last season while Tlusty was playing for the Ontario Hockey League's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
"I used poor judgment in this instance last season and I have learned a valuable lesson. It will not happen again and I have no further comment," Tlusty said in a statement released Tuesday night.
The nude photos were taken by the Czech native, Tlusty's lawyer Jerome R. Morse said.
"Mr. Tlusty took these photographs of himself with his camera phone last year," Morse wrote in an email to Zack Taylor of isthishappening.com -- the Canadian gossip website that originally posted the photos last week.
"As such, Mr. Tlusty is the owner of these photographs and any unauthorized publication of these photographs is a violation of his copyright."
The nude photos have since been removed from the site.
Shortly after the photos made their way onto the site, an image of Tlusty touching tongues with another male was posted.
In an interview with isthishappening.com, Tlusty addressed questions about his sexuality last week, saying, "I am not gay or bi nothing (sic)."
"I don't know nothing about the homosexual," he said.
Tlusty said the photos were taken during a birthday celebration with friends in his hometown of Slany, Czech Republic.
Leafs general manager John Ferguson also issued a statement Tuesday in support of Tlusty.
"Photographs were posted recently on the Internet without Jiri's knowledge or consent. He made a na?ve mistake as a teenager," Ferguson said.
"It's a lesson in how something private came easily become very public in the Internet age. Hopefully it's a lesson that other people will learn from as well."

Kovy's been on fire lately. Hartley's schemes just don't fit the new NHL IMO. Atlanta needs to freewheel to be effective. I just think Waddell should've been canned with him.
I read on wikipedia that he sued a Russian news paper for claiming that he broke up with Kournikova because she had two vaginas.
0-0 so far. Garon has been stellar. And very happy that Stoll came back
**2nd period just finished, and man is Garon HOT.(no homo) If he continues to play like this Rolo might become the #2 goalie**

Thats stupid. Waste of a story by CTV.
You can tell he was just really drunk and being an idiot. That is the least gay loooking male tongue on tongue action I have ever seen.
With the hazing rituals all these NHL guys have gone through in Jr. hockey this is absolutely nothing.
haha I know :p Who cares if he was drunk and having fun like most 18 year olds? Who cares if he is gay? i just found the story funny and the way he worded his defence that i bolded.

Today is a good day. 2 wins in a row now for the Oilers. It was a game they shouldn't have won but Garon stood on his head and they pulled it out. Two solid games in a row for Garon. If he keeps it up, maybe we'll get a goalie controversy in Edmonton. Hopefully this will spark Rollie to start playing a little better.
And because of this win, reps for everyone who posted before me on this page!
(given out too much rep, have to wait until tomorrow to hand some more out I guess)

Man, a lot of Leaf hate here. McCabe isn't worth 6 million, but he's not useless either. He was invited to the last Team Canada at the olympics as an extra. If the best hockey minds in the country, Gretzky, Nonis, Yzerman, etc. thought he was good enough, he's not the no-talent stiff a lot of people seem to make him out to be. As a Leaf fan, I'm resigned to the fact that our players get more criticism than those of other teams. They're the Yankees of hockey in terms of popularity, but unfortunately not in winning.
Tlusty should have known better than to take photos like that and leave them in someone else's hands. Hopefully it doesn't affect his play, he's a really promising young forward.

Tough loss last night for the Oilers. Minnesota's got their number. Don't know what they have to change but they've got to make an adjustment against the Wild. The way they're playing against them they may as well just skip the remaining games and give the Oilers the loss.
(also, regarding my last post, I tried to rep CDN_MLB and Dan O Mac but it says I need to spread rep around...I've done that and it still won't let me rep you guys. Sorry.)

We need LAraque back, or an equivilent. We have no true toughness losing Georges, we have no team grit losing Smith and Smythy, and no leadership because Moreau hasent even played inthe regular season.
Then there's our defence, or lack of and Roloson who apparently has nightmares of stopping pucks.
Regarding spreading your reps around. You will need to rep 40 ppl who you havent repped yet, then you can re rep me and Dan. But don't sweat it for me, as us Oil fans will always be around to rep later thru the season ;)

Canucks stomped the Wild tonight, 6-2!!!
Weds rematch is gonna be great, since there were lot of questionable plays at the end. Gabroik sent a flying elbow on Kesler. Koviou elbowed Ohlund, Ohlund struck back with a huge slash to the back of his leg. Foster ended the game with a huge slap shot to what looked like was aiming towards Weavers head, Cowen didnt like that one.
Thing, Im most happy about is that Bourdon got his first NHL goal tonight. Him and Elder are the future of our D and both look very promising.

Definitely do the Pronger deal. Schneider's back soon, probably Nieds later on, he'll rack up the PP points. Brett Clark is a journeyman who had a career year last year. Shutouts don't happen often enough to turn down one of the top three D in the game.

Just sending out a notice to the rest of the NHL by saying keep an eye out on this 21 year old Dman on the Nucks, Alex Edler. We brought him up cause of all the injuries, played him top 2 minutes and saw no drop off. Hes gonna be a stud blue liner...
Story behind him is that the Red Wings scouting staff was scouting him for the draft (we know how good their scouts are with all the gems theyve found in the late rounds) and the Nucks staff found out how highly the Wings thought of him, and drafted him before the Wings could..

After going 6-0-2 in eight straight games against divisional opponents, the Canucks left the Northwest Friday and were beaten 3-1 by the St. Louis Blues.

I made 34 bucks last night. I thoiught I was going to lose after that first period. The leafs were all over my Stars. Then The Stars woke up in the 2nd and dominated. It should have been like 5-1 if it wasn't for Toskala. That fight at the end sucked. There weren't any punches until they fell down and then Mc*** started to throw some punches. The was such a dirt slash by Mc*** that started that fight though. My team will be playing in May, not sure about yours though. ;)

Haha, a Leafs fan can dream can't they? The stars have really been playing a lot better since Armstrong was canned, weird as the GM doesn't have the on-ice influence that the coach does. Maybe it was a wake-up call and they're running with it.

What abt them Canucks.. I think Nonis should invest in some good offense.. instead of getting a whole bunch of rookie.. Yes some of them are developing into superstars.. but.. its 1 thing to re-build the team from the net out.. but its another not to have an offense at all..
Also i think they mite get rid of naslund and morrison next yr.. they should.. i know naslund scored a hattrick and all but.. even then.. i dont think he has performed in the last 2 yrs.. the way he should be

Man phoenix has won 4 straight now since getting Bryzgalov. I still can't believe burkie put him on waivers.
Crazy how close the standings are in the west...

Yeah I know, I guess Gretzky can coach.
The story on Bryz is that Burke promised him a spot where he could play, not just sit on the bench. Phoenix was offering a 4th round pick and Burkie wanted a 2nd. Instead of giving in to an obviously low-ball deal, he just put him on waivers, knowing the Coyotes would claim him and play him. Classy move.
Wow, we did it again. This time against Chicago. Our record is 6-1 now in shoot outs. And Gagners move was, once again, just sick. Completely UNDRESSED Khabalulen(sp.). And Pitkanen was playing too, so i looks like our walking wounded are starting to come back.

I wouldn't say a solid.. their pp sucked.. 1/9.. and they were outshot.. i mean they won and all.. but they should have been more dominant.!

Smith was awesome in that game. There's talk that Turco could be traded to Pittsburgh for Jordan Staal, that way Pitts gets a mentor for Fleury and Dallas gets some scoring help/ Think Smith's ready to take over?
I wish the Leafs 'tenders could steal one for once :( Rumours are Ferguson and Maurice will be fired, and I couldn't be happier if that happens.

MY brother told me a few weeks back that Turco was going to be traded to Pittsburgh. I'm agianst it. Smith is good but I don't think he is ready to carry the team. Turco just got good in the post season last year and has always been a solid reg season goalie. He is in a slump. The Stars need to show him some suport. Staal sucks this year any ways.
On TSN website it says Ferguson tried to fire Maurice but he is denying it now.

They outplayed chi in the first and the last 2 periods were fairly even. Man their first few PPs looked good but ya you're right they weren't so hot for the rest. They're showing more grit and passion though which I'm very happy about.

Yeah I heard about that, trying to save his job by passing the blame I guess.

That Hartnell hit was nasty, dude was on his knees and couldn't defend himself.

You get to see two of the best young players in the NHL on Chicago, Jonathan Toews and Pat Kane. Have fun!

Good win for the Oilers last night and it was even in regulation. If it wasn't for the shootout this year they'd be in even worse shape than they are right now.
