Alright, here we go... time for the NHL Playoff Pool

I'm pretty sure everyone get's how this is gonna work but real quick... You pick what team you think is going to win each series and in how many games. You'll get 1 point if the team you picked wins the series and 2 points if the team you picked wins in the number of games you predicted. You get nothing for a losing team. The top 5 with the most points at the end of the finals get's repped by everyone who's listed in bold below.

We'll pick again in the further rounds as we find out what the match-ups will be. Don't forget to check in at the end of each round with your new picks if you don't post in the NHL thread much.

Also, let me know before game 2 of every round if I messed up your picks. Any later than that, it's assumed your just changing your picks cause your losing. You have until the start of the first game of the first series to change a pick you have already told me (do it through PM though).

I don't have a favorite team because I never grew up near one and would feel stupid just picking a team to follow, although I might have to now. With that being said, the NHL playoffs is the best postseason of ANY sport. Hockey is not my favorite sport and like I said, I don't have a favorite. But, the competition is incredible and playoff hockey is just something else. The NHL has really bounced back. I'm so glad it's that time again.

Don't think Calgary should have won last night at all. I watched the first two periods, and if the third was anything like them, outside of the first two minutes where Calgary scored 2 quick goals, San Jose was all over them. They stole a win in San Jose.

Was the only game I watched but from the sounds of it Colorado was outplayed in their game as well but still came away with the win.

Caught the last couple minutes of the Pens/Sens game and it's one my wife and I definately want to watch more up. Looks like it could be a chippy series.

Was a little surprised to see the NYR beat NJ too. Don't know why, just was.

Don't think Calgary should have won last night at all. I watched the first two periods, and if the third was anything like them, outside of the first two minutes where Calgary scored 2 quick goals, San Jose was all over them. They stole a win in San Jose.

Was the only game I watched but from the sounds of it Colorado was outplayed in their game as well but still came away with the win.

Caught the last couple minutes of the Pens/Sens game and it's one my wife and I definately want to watch more up. Looks like it could be a chippy series.

Was a little surprised to see the NYR beat NJ too. Don't know why, just was.

Gary Roberts is DA MAN! 23 points in 24 career playoff games against the Sens. He's one of my fave Leafs ever; always brings it, even when he can barely stand. He's the definition of a playoff warrior. And dude is absolutely psycho about his conditioning and diet, he's famous for handing out shakes in the dressing room, haha. Surprisingly, Gerber wasn't the Sens problem last night.

What're you guys gonna watch tonight? I'm thinking Anaheim-Dallas will be the best offering. Caps-Flyers should be sweet too though, another of my faves, Mike Richards, will be in action. Man, I love playoff hockey! Now only if the Leafs could join the party :mad:

I'm a little worried about the amount of games Nabby has played this year. WAY more than he ever has, and pretty much Brodeur-like. If it's a long series, he may get worn down.

San Jose has always used their backups pretty heavily until there year. I'm pretty sure Nabokov's never gone over 70 games before. His durability is still a question mark.

Last season, when Gomer was in New Jersey, we went out to dinner for a quick bite. I showed up early, and he met me there. Gomer walks in, we exchange pleasantries, and he makes a comment about how much he loves my pants (pleated khakis).

The Edmonton Oilers have signed Tom Gilbert to a six-year contract that will keep the 25-year-old defenceman with the team through the 2013-14 season.

The 6'3", 210-pound native of Bloomington, Minnesota enjoyed an outstanding rookie season with the Oilers in 2007-08. One of five Oilers to appear in all 82 games, Gilbert finished eighth on the Edmonton scoring list and first among defencemen with 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points. He ranked eighth in both goals and assists and had three powerplay goals and one game winning goal.

Gilbert was one of three Oilers to finish in the top ten in scoring among NHL rookies as he was the 10th highest scorer among league freshmen and second among first-year defencemen with his 33 points. He was among the NHL rookie leaders in several categories, finishing ninth in goals, 12th in assists, 10th in powerplay goals (3), 12th in powerplay assists (6) and powerplay points (3-6-9), first in shorthanded assists (2), third in shorthanded scoring (0-2-2) and fourth in shooting percentage (13.3%; 13-98). He finished the season with 159 blocked shots to lead NHL rookies and place 11th in the NHL.

He established two new Edmonton rookie scoring records during the season. His 13 goals broke the previous record for most goals by a rookie defencemen shared by Paul Coffey and Marc-Andre Bergeron, who scored nine times in 1980-81 and 2003-04, respectively. On March 28th, Gilbert scored a goal and an assist at Colorado to give him 33 points and break the previous team record of 32 points set by Coffey in 1980-81. Coffey scored 9-23-32 in 74 games during his first NHL season.

Named the Oilers "Defenceman of the Year" in a vote of the Edmonton sports media, Gilbert was named to Team USA for the upcoming 2008 IIHF World Championship tournament to be held in Halifax and Quebec City in May.

WASHINGTON - Flyers left wing Patrick Thoresen was taken to the hospital for tests after getting hit in the groin by a shot during Philadelphia's 5-4 loss to Washington on Friday night.

"He's going to the hospital to get an ultrasound done on his testicles. It's bad enough they may have to remove one," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "Right now, we're not sure how serious it is, but there's a chance he may need surgery."

Thoresen blocked Mike Green's shot with about 6 1/2 minutes left in the game, then dropped to the ice, writhing in pain. Moments later, Washington scored to tie the game 4-4.

"Obviously, I'd have liked to see a whistle," Flyers coach John Stevens said.

Thoresen was helped off the ice and taken to the locker room.

i actually thought the Stars were in trouble last game at the start. the ducks were just pounding them but then they got into penalty trouble and the Stars picked their game up and the Turco of last year showed up. The series will go 7 game i think and the stars will win 4 of those games. :D

Well we will see. I thought the refs were lame, same as in the Calgary game, call everything on 1 team and let the other do pretty much anything.

Not making excuses, but you know that refs sometimes want the game played their way.

LOL, but Luongo waving to the refs in OT was not a good move either. What I would like to see is the same refs doing the whole series that they start, that consistency happens.

One night you have one ref, the next another, players get confused about what is being called and what isn't.

Pretty solid game by the stars tonight. Again the penalties by the ducks were the difference. I'm not really cheering for either team but man the officiating was a little suspect again tonight. Some of those calls were weak.

these boarding penalties are getting out of control. all the player has to do is turn their back and face the boards forcing the player to check them from behind. if the guy is facing you as you line up your hit and they turn their back it should be fair game to plow them into the boards face first.

How the hell do you blow a 3 goal lead. Overall though, I will give credit to the Flames for chipping away and making the comback. Outside of the first 5 minutes, I think the Flames outplayed the Sharks and Cujo came in and shutdown them down the rest of the way.

Probably cost the Nucks the playoffs. Rumour is that Burke is gonna come back, as his wife still commutes from Vancouver, grew up there and really loves the place.
