I have been having pain on one side in my lower back, right below or right at my waist line. Funny thing is it only hurts when I get up from the sitting position and only then for about 30 secs. Anyway I went to the doctor and he put me on PrediSONE for 5 days and said if that didnt help I would probably have to have a shot of steroids in my SI Joint. I bet thats gonna feel great!! OUCH! Anyone else know someone who has been thru this or been thru it yourself?? Thanks!

Mine just tweaks every so often, I go to the chiro and get adjusted, and it goes away for a while. In my case it's not serious enough to get steroid shots, I would definitely get other opinions.

I injured my SI joint giving birth to my first child. It was agony - I looked like a cripple when I walked (which i could barely do) - it took 6 weeks for this to go away. My doctor didn't offer anything except a few light pain killers (I was nursing and couldn't have anything stronger)

When I was close to having my second child, the pain started coming back and I was really scared of going through all that again and a friend suggested a chiropractor....and even at 8 months pregnant he gave me an adjustment and after a couple days of soreness from whatever it is they do to the joint - OMG the pain was gone. It was such a relief that I didn't have to go through that agony again.

Good luck!

Its not real bad, I could deal with it, its just irritating. Like I said it really just hurts after I have been sitting. My doctor is not an Orthopedic but he is setting me up to see one. So we will see in a couple weeks whats really going on.

Go to a chiro, trust me on this one! SI joint is not a big deal (at least it wasnt in my case). At least get it checked by one, it's possible yours is more serious than mine, but I would do everything possible to keep from taking prednisone and getting cortisone injections.

I am not a chiro, BTW lol.

My left SI joint gets sore. I keep the pain away be having monthly Chiropractic adjustments and occasional Massage Therapy.

You are doing the right thing by seeing an Orthopedic Specialist. In fact, the pain that is often attributed to SI can be caused by a number of other conditions and SI can be very difficult to diagnose that makes it very important to have a good diagnostician, such as a medical doctor specializing in Orthopedics, to make that distinction. IF it is SI a conservative approach is usually initiated prior to any cortisone injections or more aggressive invasive procedures.

thanks Carl... yeah I saw this site earlier today. I think you are right about the specialist. Thats what im gonna try first. I would see a chiro but like they said its hard to diagnose.

I realize that there are individuals who feel that Chiropractors have done an excellent job managing their back related conditions. Unfortunately there are quite a few more that feel otherwise. I am not contesting anyones use of Chiropractors BUT they are in fact not medical doctors, are no way as well trained diagnostically and do not replace the need for a diagnostic examination conducted by a an Orthopedic specialist to assure that you are obtaining the correct treatment for the condition underlying your pain. Just my opinion.
