That's good.

I am thinking of eating normally next week..carbs, protein, fat. I feel like sheet. Workouts have gone to sheet. After yesterday I was so freakin' frustrated I just didn't know what to do. I'm still pissed...my shoulder hurts, and I feel like I'm in a fog. I'd bet money that I'm getting sick.

I hate not being able to lift.

Today's diet

8 oz Chicken breast, 1 cups spinach, 1 oz sharp cheddar. This is so quick and easy to prepair. I bought the Tyson Frozen grilled chicken breast strips, some frozen spinach, and a bag of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Throw all of these together in a bowl and pop into the freezer. It tastes great to boot. I'm going to make a bunch of these up for this week. I'm also going to try adding some eggs to this and see how it works for breakfast. I've been looking for ways to get more veggies...this might be the answer.

I also brought along 1 lb of Sliced turkey breast and 3 low carb wraps. I'm going to eat these throughout the day today.

I'll also have a couple protein shakes with water.

Sorry to hear about the shoulder injury Homes. Although, with the way you have been lifting this "forced week off" is a perfect time for a deload. Enjoy the time off instead of being stressed and anxious to lift again. Take a nap here and there and enjoy the extra growth hormone. :)

Yah, I know...but lifting keeps me on an even keel. My mood suffers greatly when I am not lifting on a regular basis. Any time I know I'm going to miss workouts I start to worry...and it doesn't take long for me to feel the affects of not working out. That is one reason I am so meticulous when it comes to getting my workouts scheduled and completed.

Yes, I do rotator cuff work on a regular basis. I am going to do more in the future...but I'm not so sure that this injury has anything to do with my rotator cuff. I think it is something else entirely.

2 hours of volleyball tonight was a pretty good workout. I played pretty good, but my team wasn't clicking. We went 3 for 6, but I can't complain too much...all I was looking for was to get a good sweat going and to hit the ball hard. My back didn't feel too bad...just a little tight.

I made my breakfasts and lunches for the next week, or at least most of it.

Breakfasts will be 8 eggs and 1 oz of cheese.

Lunches with be grilled chicken breast with broccoli and cheese...that is what I made for dinner tonight too.

It didn't take very long to make any of these meals either. I should be set for a while. It feels good to get everything set and ready to go.

WOW!!!
Geez, a guy takes a couple of days away from the computer and there's like a thousand pages to catch up on! Great going HL and DDX! Its cool to see the online motivation!

HL, does your wing hurt when pressing rather than with abduction? The pain will be in the joint itself and possibly medially to the clavicle. If so you may have labral inflammation or possibly a tear. Best thing for joint pain is rest and NSAIDs. (ie Motrin) At your size 600 mg 6-8 hours apart. (Or PRN) Use the NSAIDs only as long as you need to. They chew on your liver if used really long term. Steer clear of flyes and do light db presses for reps. And as usual... Hit all the angles.

I have a small labral tear and I find myself doing dbs almost exclusively. For some reason they don't irritate the shoulder like the bar does. Go figure! Good luck!

DDX the back looks DYNOMITE! ( Jimmie Walker style) Awesome shrugs too!

Night all!

Crunchy rice...undercooked chicken..its all good. :p

That is one reason I make just about everything ahead of time...5 minutes in the microwave and it's meal time.

The grilled chicken breast with spinach and cheese is a very good meal..and it heats up well. I put a little garlic salt on it too..before I freeze it. You could probably put a little rice in there and it would fit into your diet. Just an idea for those times you just don't want to cook, or you don't want to wait.

How often do you see yourself doing refeeds while on your current diet Val? Is it when you feel like it, or scheduled. I struggle to bring myself to refeed...I feel so guilty..lol. Even when I plan to refeed....I often don't...or I just eat more protein and veggies than I normally would. That might be the reason I haven't really felt well for the last couple of weeks. How often do you think I should refeed? What do you use a gauge for when you refeed?

I try to slam down pre-workout (not a lot, only 15-20g), post-workout (around 50-60g) and the rest comes from veggies and nuts...

I refeed when I feel I need it but I found that the last meal of every 3rd day is a good time for me.

Volleyball went good tonight even though we lost all 3 games. Scores were 25/19, 25/21, and 25/23 against a really good team with 3 solid guy hitters and 2 of 3 women who could also hit well. I played great, hit the ball well, and had quite a few blocks. It was great workout and physically, I felt better. Basketball tomorrow, and Volleyball on Thursday. I feel like I'm getting in better shape. Man was I jumping tonight...I got some good comments from the team we played...which meant a lot coming for such good players. Most of them played college volleyball.

Well, you can't bring your A game every night...didn't play very well...didn't have much energy, but I guess I could expect that. I got a great workout in and that is all I care about right now anyway. I'm not going to eat anything post workout...just not hungry and I feel the fat burning away.

Volleyball tomorrow night, so my activity level will stay pretty high. I am looking forward to Friday and having my kids...getting a workout in...and having fun with them over the weekend.

I need to spend some one on one time with my oldest boy. He is really having a hard time right now in school. We are going to get him some help, but with all he's been through over the last couple of years, and especially with my ex moving them away, he is just having a hard time adapting to all the changes. It weighs heavily on my heart that he is stuggling so much, and that I can't be there on a daily basis for him.

I am going to take my kids to an apple orchard to pick some apples, then I'm hoping to bring them home and have them help me make a home made apple pie. We are going to a bonfire on Saturday night too...I already picked up the s'mores stuff.

My youngest boy's birthday is next week..so I need to do something special for him this weekend too. It will be a busy weekend, but I will make sure I have some special one on one time with each of my kids...and a little more for my oldest.

I'm sure the cardio kick started your morning. Does doing the cardio on an empty stomach still make you hungrier during the day?

I've noticed with the increase in activity with volleyball and basketball, that I am hungrier earlier. I am often eating my lunch at 10:15-10:30 instead of 11:00. I am also waking up hungry in the middle of the night. Natty PB is a lifesaver for me there.

Hey homie and val, I thought I would stop by and say hi.

homie I didn't know you liked the bball and vball, I love those. I got to play a little bball in college and I played on a club vball team too. Those are great sports and I love playing them. i have to figure out the pick up times at my gym. Every time I go they are finishing up so I just end up running on the treadmill.

I'm looking forward to reading up on y'alls log. Good luck and keep up the hard work.

I played basketball in college and only started playing volleyball a couple years ago. I am still learning a lot where volleyball is concerned. They are both pretty fun, but basketball is my first love as far as sports go...and still the most challenging. I am playing against guys that are a lot younger, but I am still able to more than hold my own. Last night just wasn't a good night...my head wasn't there...not to mention I was playing against a team with a 6-9 center and a 6-6 power forward. I had my hands full and absolutely no help. I had to play the whole game because our other big guy was a no-show..I was more than just a little frustrated. I'm having a problem with my right achilles, probably from my basketball shoes, and it starts to hurt as soon as I play. Really, all I'm looking for right now is some good cardio when I play...my team stinks..bad. I can keep us in most games myself...but as I get tired...we tend to get behind. I can't wait for this league to be over...I'll either switch leagues, find an open gym, or get on a better team for the next session. I'd like to play basketball at least 1 night per week all fall and winter.

Cool man, I had to lay off after a nice bout of jumpers knee which came from my running shoes. Now that I have those changed all is good. My worst experiance ever was guarding a 7' guy who use to play for the Bucks. He was older than me and we weighed the same but he hardly had to jump to out rebound me. At least he couldn't move me off the block. Small victories right.

For real, there was a guy on my team that used to play for the Rockets as a 2 guard, he had the fastest release I have ever seen and never missed. I'm sure at the speed we were playing at it was like middle school to him.

My wife played at TCU here in Fort Worth so I'm hoping with our genetics we can produce a nice power forward. My daughter just turned 2 and she is already over 3 feet tall.

Most of the time, I am an outside hitter...because we usually pass middle. If the team we play has a strong middle hitter, I'll hit middle and block. I hit equally well from the right, left, or middle.

You diet looks solid for today too. Do you feel comfortable with the way you have it set up now?

Yeah... I just need to find a way to up my fiber intake. I eat a lot of spinach and lettuce but it's not enough. Right now, my fats are coming from cheese, almonds ans olive oil and I feel good and I'm never hungry.

How's your diet for this week ?

How's your diet for this week ?

I got some whole flax seeds this weekend, I just ground them up and put them in with my whey shake.

serving 3tbs
calories-140
Fat -10g, lots of omega 3s
carbs - 9g
fiber - 7g
protein - 5g

This really helps along with avocados to get my fats and fiber. I shoot for around 40g fiber per day.

My diet over the weekend was...not...so...good. I had a few cheat meals, but I think it will do me good in the long run.

This week, my diet will be right on. I have all my meals made..except for breakfast, which I'll make tonight.

This is what my meals will look like.

Breakfast-8 eggs, 1 oz Cheese
Snack-46 grams protein with water-BSN Syntha-6
Lunch-8 oz chicken breast or venison, 1.5 cups spinach, 1 oz cheese
Snack-46-70 grams protein with water-BSN Syntha-6
Dinner-8 oz Chicken or Turkey, 1 low carb wrap, 2 slices cheese, small salad
Post workout-2-3 scoops Torrent, 23 grams whey protein

Wednesday, I'll try to have 1 cup dry oats with either breakfast or dinner because I play basketball.

Thursday, I'm going to refeed...not sure what yet.

I've looked at the cut diet a little bit. My refeed with be mostly fat and protein from huge quantities of inferno buffalo wings. The place I play volleyball at on Thursdays has $.10 wings. For $3.00 I can get 30...and I'll be in heaven.

Rehab is going slow. My shoulder is feeling better every day, but my back is holding me up a little bit. It will just take time..I have plenty of time, so I'm not worried. I'll just do what I can do for now. I hate not being able to push hard on legs though.

I'm going to do some different shoulder work tonight to see if I can get some more improvements too. Then I need to do some total body work and get a really good pump going for some pics. I am so bloated today though..carbs over the weekend...that I doubt the pics will look good.

That sounds typical of shoulder rehab....slow. I'm glad that it does improve daily. I didn't know your back hurt too. :( I hope that gets better as well.

Just be careful tonight, but I'm sure you know what you're doing. Why take pics today? You could just wait a few days to let the water get out of you. Just a thought. Anyway, have a good one. I'm off to work.

Trust me...the look you'd see when there's man's work to be done is much scarier...really, really!

Thanks Bb. I don't think I'm gaining fat, or at least not much, and my muscle gains seem to be pretty good. I would like to get leaner, but my body is really fighting it right now. We'll see if I can lose 10-15 lbs of fat and gain some more muscle over the next 3 months.

I need to stay pretty low carb, or I gain weight. I'll stick with a pretty strict low carb diet for a while now. I'll carb up on baskeball days. Cheat meals will be things like buffalo wings..protein and fat. I'll take it month by month for now. I might throw in a week of lower cals here and there, but nothing too long. I don't want to lose muscle or strength.

Morning guise :D

I had a really good workout this morning. At first, I thought I'd be weak because I was feeling a little sluggished/tired, but it went fine.

The inclines went well, I was surprised by my strength on these. Only problem is I started feeling some pain in my right elbow on my last set and I think it affected my strength on the flat bench.

I decided to substitute de decline bench press by chest dips... Declines are sort of useless for a woman lol / the bench is always used by someone / I rarely have a spotter.

Short and sweet workout, it took me about 40 minutes to complete it, which is what I was shooting for.

Have a nice day !

Nice workout Day..

and awsome transformation HL!!!

Val has become a PR machine lately!

Thanks Leah. I weighed in this morning and I sure wasn't prepaired for what the scale had to say.....279.6 lbs. I have no idea how I can eat what I eat and gain that kind of weight...seriously. Most days I am below maintenance. I can't really complain, because I look at what my fat level looked like before and what it looks like now...and I gained somewhere around 20 lbs of muscle in 3 months. I was at 255 in the starting pics...so my total gain is 24.6 lbs. The only thing I did was add some carbs for breakfast for a while..but even when doing the velocity diet...I seemed to grow. I have a feeling that the post workout carbs just turn my anabolic switch on big time.

Solid work as always...keep it up.

No wider grip, but I really lean forward :) I was burned out at this point, and I did full ROM. Felt good !

I understand why it's recommended to use 25-30 degrees on inclines with Max-OT. The normal incline (45) wouldn't allow me to add enough weight to the bar. The low-incline really killed my chest (lol, funny to call it a chest).

Well, as long as you don't hurt yourself I say keep going. Keep the weight the same and try to really cut down the rest periods. You can get stronger that way and keep the weights moderate. Might help strengthen up the back for heavy pulling later.

That was what I was thinking. I can handle 225 really easy. The hardest part was getting warmed up. I did keep the rest periods pretty short and I really worked on speed and explosiveness on these. I might go up 20 lbs next time and see how it works. Just need some time to work out this issue with my back. I think it is between my ribs where the reall injury lies. Those doen't heal very fast.

I forgot to mention that when I weighed in this morning, I was down over 3 lbs. I'm still holding a lot of water and I'd expect more to come off by the end of the week. When my glycogen stores are full...I can carry a lot of extra water.

I did have a midnight snack last night. 1 low carb wrap with a couple tbsp of natty pb. I didn't have a post workout shake and sometimes I'll wake up hungry if I do that.

Todays Diet

8 eggs, 1 oz cheese, 1 sausage patty
46 grams protein with water
8 oz Chicken breast, 1.5 cups spinach, 1 oz cheese
70 grams protein with water
8 oz 95% lean Turkey, 2 slices cheese, 1 low carb wrap, small salad, 3 slices tomato, balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
46 grams protein with water

I am going to skip basketball tonight and go to the gym and do 45 minutes on the Treadmill. Not fast cardio, but I'm going to try to get 300-500 cals. burned. I'm trying to get into ketosis for a while and I still have some glycogen to burn.

Morning guise :D

I had a good workout, the Rockstar Diet definitively helped this morning !!

I'm impressed with my "new" upper body strength and it was a little hard to guess the weight for my worksets. The Smith Presses were harder than expected tho, my shoulders were probably fried from this major PR with the DBs.

Time to shower/eat and go to school. Only classes this morning, so I'll be free this afternoon (meaning I'll have time to study lol).

Cheers :)

Yeah, in terms of Econ, you're right. You have better options elsewhere.

For the weather?!? Are you kidding me? One day it'll be hot w/ 100% humidity and the next will be cold and rainy which makes the next day hot and humid again. The saying here is, "If you don't like the weather in GA, wait a day".

What impressed me the most about your workout Val is that you PR's on two shoulder lifts back to back. That is hard to do. I'd like to see you start with Smith Machine Military Presses next time and see what happens. I'm thinking 110-115 lbs is in your reach.

I start off most mornings with a diet Rockstar....actually two. On bad mornings, 2 XXL diet Rockstars...I have a serious caffine addiction.

I didn't go to the gym last night, but I did take a 20-30 minute walk when I got home. Just needed to strech my legs. There was no way I was going to make it to the gym with the way traffic was.

Tonight will be a little bit of a refeed...20 inferno buffalo wings. I'm looking forward to that. When I did the Atkins diet before, buffalo wings were a staple of my diet. I lost weight like crazy.

Hopefully, we'll have 3 matches for volleyball tonight. That would mean we made it to the championship game. I am a sub, but I've played a lot for this team...they are pretty good and very fun to play with. It will be a late night, but tomorrow is Friday and I can work dead tired for one day.

I switch to coffee after I'm done with the diet Rockstars...lol. 2-4 cups during the day.

Volleyball wasn't so good last night. We lost our first game and were out of the tourney. I played pretty well and got a good workout, so I'm not going to complain. I had 25 inferno buffalo wings last night too....they were so good! No more Thursday night volleyball either, so I'll be able to settle into a good lifting schedule again.

Chest/Back workout tonight.

Sux, but buffalo wings took the pain away I'm sure. Back to the grind, hit it hard! Here's to 300 lbs benches for reps, burnout sets, 20 rep squats and vomit-inducing intensity!

You know me too well...lol I'm looking forward to being able to push hard again. I will still take it easy on most lifts untill my back feels 100%. My shoulder is feeling a lot better, so I'll give my bench a little more work tonight. I'll be carefull with my back work.
