On the other hand, this is your young years, enjoy yourself.. Most people agree drinking once a week will not kill you.

that's ok i'd rather get huge and chisled. And actually drinking only once per week can have the following effects...
lower test levels by over 50% for a week
lower gh levels by over 30% for a week
lower protein synthesis greatly
did i mention drinking ABSOLUTELY HALTS ANY FAT BURNING PROCESS UNTIL THE ALCOHOL IS EXCRETED FROM THE BODY.
it's your body...i'd rather not poison mine.

It's hard for me to believe that any intelligent person who has been "lifting for 5 years" and putting that much time and effort into improving themselves would even need to ask a question like that.

First off it is just a matter of priority, you can have a good body and drink often, buy you will never see your potential, the choice is yours, I don't look down on it either way.
Now for you, I'm guessing you're in high school right, steal mom and dads liquor some time! Sweet! maybe hang out at a keg every now and then. Haha. Big man braggin about how much you can drink on the internet, that's pathetic.

There is absolutely no truth to alcohol haulting the fat burning process, it just adds calories, and your numbers are completely out of your fat dumb weakling ass. Imaginary values from an imaginary education --- stop flooding the internet with foolish **** you ****ing moron. You obviously don't have a flaming understanding of health you intrinsically stupid morons, who maintain each other's ****ing stupid. It's about time someone does a public service and interrupt your stupid which you will surely overlook in your roid rage reading this...(can you even read?). being a jerk about this is the only way to get you ****bags to pay attention and therefore make the conditions in your tiny ass brain open to change for the good of society you cocksucking girlies.
Your post is like saying candy, pizza, and hamburgers haults the fat burning process. What a load of dumb ****, there is absolutely no pysiological connection between processing liquor out of your blood stream and your body using its natural resources fat. I have never in my life witness a more lucid example of idiots parroting **** without questioning or having any remote understanding of anything.
Get out of the gym ***s and compensating for what you don't have and use your brain to work it out, which will makes you so much more efficient than working out for the sake of it and wasting life looking like a big ****ing dumbass pointlessly efforted tool --- honestly the bigger you are, the weaker you look. Any idiot can go buy a $10 bat and whoop your ass after you blow $10,000 on weight crap. Seriously, the world doesn't revolve around your goofy ****ing loser as criteria you invent to try and pretend you are better than other people you little girls. Society mocks you lolololol

You are the only idiot here. You come in here and state everything else is false, when you show no proof of your statements either. Alcohol is toxic to the human body, and your body instantly recognizes that fact and will therefore remove all liquor from your system before continuing to digest the food in your stomach, this is probably where the idea of "stopping the fat burning process" comes from. If you want to insult people, maybe you should attempt, at least a little, to sound intelligent about it. That is, assuming you are even remotely capable of that.

Wow, I was wondering why this is in the women's forum also...
however I would like to read up on some of the evidence cited about alcohol's effects on fat burning and such. Anyone have any links? I can tell the bf facts so he'll cut back on his drinking a little (if he's so determined to lose a little fat on his body like he says he is).

For all those that believe alcohol does not interrupt the fat burning process, please refer to the following sites:
http://www.skwigg.com/id54.html
http://www.delmillers.com/Alcohol.htm
Believe me, there are MANY other sites that medically support the fact that ingestion of ANY type of alcohol results in the body converting it into an acetate.
The body will firstly metabolise the acetate and thus the acetate impedes or negates the metabolism (burning) of fat cells.
I am certainly no expert in this matter, but I have 'surfed' for information purely out of selfisheness.
I tried all I could to reduce my body fat content but include alcohol in my lifestyle.
The personal choice for me was to face up to reality.
Am I happy about it?...**** NO!!!....I'm Australian and LOVE my beer, but the choices are clear.
I hope this somehow helps other people.
There is of course, NO reason why we cannot include some alcohol in our lifestyles and in fact 1-3 glasses of wine with dinner has been medically proven to be beneficial to the heart.
That's all for now.
Cheers to all.
Paulee.

I think one thing that may have an effect is the fact that drinking alcohol can really deplete your body of B vitamins. Since B vitamins are essential in metabolizing carbohydrates for energy and breaking down fats and protein, some negative effects on body building or fat loss could be seen from this. I used to drink everyday, but now drink 1 or 2 nights a week. I am not training to compete or anything. If I were, I would probably cut out drinking to prepare for competition. I think one of the biggest factors is that people generally want to eat after drinking and when its late, you're drunk, and at a 24 hour diner, you usually make bad food choices.

The way I see it, alcohol will most certainly affect muscle growth over a period of time. For one simple reason: to maintain your caloric intake and have a drink, you will have to subtract some important nutrients that otherwise would feed your muscle (not to mention that alcohol is the most calorie dense as compared to fats, protien & carbs).
