Hey just a quick question, if i mix my muscle milk and my milk at around 7:30 in the morning when i go to school, will it still have all the effects and will it be OK to take it after i workout, at around 9:30, or is this too long for the muscle milk and the milk to sit together.

Muscle milk is a poor PWO choice, because of its fat content and lack of carbs. You could add carbs in the shake, or as a meal, but you can't get around the fat. Most people would also consider the protein blend in muscle milk sub-optimal, but the fat is undebatable.

Read the sticky about pre, during, and post-workout nutrition in the nutrition section.

What I do if I can't make a shake right after my workout and don't want it to sit around is pour the milk or water in the shaker and then just put the powder in a ziplock bag and then I can mix it when I'm ready to take it without having to lug around a big jug of protein. I get the RTDs also once in a while for if I'm really busy. Just something to think about...

Thanks for the reply guys, just curious, if muscle milk is'nt good for post-workout, why does it say that on the container, and when is the best time to take it.

So you'll consume more of it more quickly, and have to buy more. It's all about money.

Hey i have to revert to another post that i saw in this forum. Would someone explain this to me and tell me if i would see better results if i were to take the muscle milk post-workout as opposed to bedtime: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=15570142

Nah, those results basically show that:

A) Any type of protein (either casein or whey) is better than nothng postworkout (duh)
B) Whey seems to be SLIGHTLY better

However, Muscle Milk contains a lot of fat too, correct? A true "casein" protein is mostly just protein, and not the added fat.

I would suggest sticking with Muscle Milk before bedtime, and a good whey powder for postworkout.

Muscle milk is not that bad for the fat content. The fat is made up of mct's.
Its purposely made with extra fat. And yes it bad for carbs but simply eat some fruit with it and you are all set. Plus it's a little higher in calories. Muscle milk is more for the bulker of course the shake alone isnt going to bulk you up but its got alot of good fats and higher calories.

The fat in muscle milk is mostly good fats, correct. But mct's aren't all they are made out to be on the muscle milk label. EFA's are superior to mct's as a fat source.

I use a scoop of muscle milk pre-bed, in addition to milk, fiber, and other EFA's. Why do I use muscle milk when I know that plain ol cottage cheese and flax oil/fish oil/pb would be better? Because muscle milk tastes so damn good.

Bottom line though is that there are much better choices PWO than muscle milk. Back nailed it when he said that the directions on the bottle are all about money.

Agreed, AmogtheLiving, we in the other post all essentially agree that whey in water is the preferred pre- and post- workout method, the only disagreement is the AMOUNT of tangible difference between the two methods (i.e., the amount of time it would take for any substantial difference to occur). The only way I personally would mix milk with whey post-workout is if you were unable to eat another source of protein within 45-60 minutes after the whey shake for whatever reason.

Yes, it has MCTs, but postworkout, you still don't want them slowing down protein absorption.

Stick to whey PWO.
