OK here goes... Please dont laugh.. taking alot to post this here.

I'm a SAHM with 2 kids 6 & 8

I currently weigh 145.. I have lost 10 pounds in the last 2 months.

I want to gain muscle and lose fat.

My current stats:

age 35
Height 5'0
weight 145
waist 34
hips 38
chest 38
thigh 24
calf 14.5
bicep flex 12.5

I have lost an inch in the waist and 1 1/2 in the hips in the past 6 months..

I started out ST a few years ago but only 2 times a week no cardio.. and didnt care about my diet.. mistake I know.

This is what I do now.

ST MWF currently I own a bowflex and this is what I do my ST on.( I know there are ppl who think these arent any good. No leg though... I know I need to add those.

Cardio 3 days a week when I can fit it in with 2 kids.
I walk usually 3 miles about 45.

My goal is to lose 10 more pounds by Apr 27(bdaY).. not sure if this is possible. Might be a stretch.

I can see a difference in the mirror at least.

My diet is better not the best I know.

I usually eat:

I do take a muti vit in the morning.

B-fast oatmeal with coffee with FF creamer
lunch tuna with FF mircle whip about a TB or a turkey sandwich on wheat with lots of veggies.
snack usually a yogurt or a Low fat granola bar.
dinner varies since i cook for the whole family.
a good night would be brown rice. chicken breast and broc and salad maybe.
one like last night salad, a few fries baked.. and a hamburger.
usually i dont eat anything after dinner.

I have given up cola.. drink only water.. maybe slightly sweet tea sometimes.
I don't eat any junk.. Lots of it in the house right now.. Candy and choc, and cake... you name it with 2 kids its here. esp right after Easter.

I do take a cheat meal on the weekends.. Its so hard on the weekends with everyone home.

I still stay within 40 fat right now. I havent been counting anything else though.

I was thinking about adding protein skakes to the mix. but not sure what to get.. and not sure if this will help or hinder the weight lose.

How should I figure BF% should I get a scale or those very accurate?

I want to look great for having to kids.. Flat abs please.

My goals are baby steps right now..

I can post the workout schedule later if interested.

Any advice would be appreciated..

Just want to say congrats on starting a journal, and way to go on losin the weight so far and makin a great effort to change your lifestyle!!! I think the bowflex is good since to me, its better than not doin anything at all, and doin the best with what u have at ur disposal.

Your diet looks pretty good at a quick glance, I would include protien in your breakfast, like protien powder or egg whites, and i would add more veggies, and try to get sprouted wheat bread, its easier to digest and a healthier route. After dinner u might want to have some protien before bed, since it is a long time before you eat again in the morn. I would suggest Protien powder.

Other than that, it would be a good idea to track on www.fitday.com to make sure that u are getting enuf calories and in the right ratios..

Good luck in your program, and im sure that u will love it here..i kno i do! lol, lots of great info and super women on here to motive and inspire u!!

You are doing great! No need to post pics if you don't want to. Losing an inch in 6 months is a good solid loss. You should be proud. I doubt the bowflex is useless. I think it is likely a good starter machine that you will eventually grow out of.

I do my workouts at home with an incline bench, adjustable dumbbell set, standard bar and plates and my FH spots me. I'm getting more plates and olympic dumbbell bars as soon as I have time to go back to the fitness store.

Try to have a scheduled weigh in once a week. This will be more meaningful. Also take pics once a month and side by side compare.

Hey!

First off, CONGRATS on your weightloss and your commitment to living a healthy lifestyle...ESPECIALLY since you have kids, you're setting a great example for them.

The bowflex is not a useless machine if you use it correctly. If you are getting a good workout (and you know you are if your heartrate is up and you're feeling a good burn in your muscles) then the machine is 100% effective. Many hardcore exercisers dislike the bowflex because it's not as effective for building muscle as some other home gyms, but like Terracotta said, it's a very good beginning machine. For your legs, if you invest in a pair of dumbbells you can do a variety of exercises -- lunges, squats, etc etc...even bodyweight exercises can be extremely effective for this region.

Your cardio plan looks great. Have you considered getting some videos to spice up the mix? As you become stronger, you may want to consider this, or maybe taking a class at the Y or your local gym. It's totally up to you and your schedule. Your diet is also very good, but I agree that you need a bit more protein in your breakfast. Protein powder can taste pretty good mixed with oatmeal in the morning, which is how I take mine. Have you tried FitDay? That's a great (free!) online program for tracking your food intake. www.fitday.com, I highly recommend it. It'll help you keep your ratios (Carbs to protein to fat) in the right place, but it looks like you're doing a great job of that on your own. If you were going to add a protein shake, the best place to do that would be right after your workout.

Since your main goal is weightloss, I'd try a lower calorie protein like Met-Rx Protein Plus (which has 110 cals per serving) and avoid the meal replacement powders that have upwards of 350 cals per serving.

Don't worry about people laughing at you, and if you aren't comfortable posting a picture, don't! We're all here to support you, and there are many different people on here with many different goals, different body types, and different starting points. You're sure to fit in, and you're totally welcome. Check out some of the other journals for some great ideas and inspiration...I love this place and I am sure you're going to as well.

welcome!
Sunny

Hey Steph....welcome to the board there are so many helpful and encouraging women here.
I think Running is a great form of cardio and it's a pretty cheap and easy to maintain. Get a good pair of running shoes, see if you can find a local store to "Fit" you to a pair. A good store should be able to video tape your stride in the store and analyze your gait to help make sure you have the proper support.
With that said............I am a diehard believer in running. I'm not great at it...but i enjoy it. and for the average person burns about 100 cal per mile...... here is a sample plan (from Runnersworld.com) for a 10 week beginner training program. I'm not sure what your fitness level is now but this has a good example of how to increase time/mileage... good luck!

from Runnersworld.com

If you're starting from a low fitness level, we recommend you begin with several weeks of walking for 20 to 30 minutes at a time before attempting Week 1. Also, if you have not exercised for a long time, are overweight, or have existing or family health problems, see your physician before you begin this program.

Week Run Walk Repeat Total Time
1 1 min 2 min 7x 21 min
2 1 min 1 min 10x 20 min
3 2 min 1 min 7x 21 min
4 3 min 1 min 5x 20 min
5 4 min 1 min 4x 20 min
6 6 min 1 min 3x 21 min
7 9 min 1 min 2x 20 min
8 12 min 1 min Then run 7 min 20 min
9 15 min 1 min Then run 4 min 20 min
10 20 min Leap for joy 20 min

Note: Always warm up for your workout with a couple minutes of walking and/or slow jogging, and cool down afterward with the same. If you cannot reach 20 minutes of continuous running, try to run 8 or 9 minutes, walk 1 or 2 minutes, and repeat. When you succeed at reaching the 20-minute goal-and you will-gradually increase your distance to whatever level you choose.

Great to hear you bought a heartrate monitor - I'm sure you'll find it useful!

Do you use glutamine? It helps for muscle recovery and soreness.

hey,

I weighed today down another 2 pounds... 141 now.

Quick Question. I have been extremly tired the last few days.. thinking it cause of the new running routine..I ran/walk on M and Tues. How many cal do you think I need to start out the day with.. I dont think the coffee w creamer and oatmeal is enough.

I felt kinda of lightheaded yesterday about 1 after my ST workout?

I'm not sure if its a Sugar thing or hormones or what.. its scary..

Is 2 pounds a week to much to lose? is this safe?

Im going to try and look at fitday and count some calories again.. I just havent got used to using that yet...

Thanks

Hi Shortsteph!
You should have some protein with your breakfast....maybe add 5 egg whites or some protein power with your oatmeal.

It's okay to lose 1-2 pounds a week but if you aren't getting enough calories and/or doing to much cardio then you might be losing muscle, which is obviously not okay. The lack of calories and good pre-workout nutrition might be the cause of your lightheadness. You need healthy protein+carbs pre and post workout. I would recommend putting your food into fitday, at least to get an idea of your calories and macro's. Good luck!

Hey Steph!

Try getting some vanilla protein powder and mixing it with your oatmeal. This is very good and extremely filling -- I'm sure that will help your problems with lack of energy and lightheadedness.

After your workout, trying some low-fat cottage cheese and fruit, or yogurt and granola -- something carby but also with protein. I drink a protein shake after my workouts, but if you want to stick to whole foods, that's fine as well.

Congrats on yet more weightloss!

Sunny

Whoo your calories are WAAAAY low -- the ratios are okay, the fats are a liiiiiittle high but adding in more cals in the form of protein powder will help.

There's a couple of different ways you could go with the protein powder. 1) You could get a meal replacement powder with a lot of calories, lots of protein (upwards of 40/50 grams per serving) and a lot of carbs or 2) you could go with a straight protein powder that has few calories but a lot of protein (20 grams usually, or that ballpark)

I think it's best to get most of our calories from whole foods and use the protein to supplement our diets. I'd add in two protein shakes for you -- 1 in the morning before your first meal, and 1 post workout. The first one doesn't even necessarily have to be a protein shake -- put your protein in cottage cheese or something. The second shake blend up a banana, some protein, some yogurt or skim milk and some peanut butter. For your last meal of the day, you could try making an eggwhite omelette...that's a good way to get protein without a lot of excess calories. Look at VanillaBean's diet plan, for example...hers is very clean and very good.

Protein will work in coffee...that's what I did this morning since I was in such a hurry. It'll make the coffee pretty thick though, just to warn you. I'd use a flavor (like chocolate) that tastes good with coffee though...don't try to stick strawberry creme in your hazelnut blend in the morning...that could be a little gross. :-)

hope this helps!
Sunny

PS -- if you buy a smoothie maker (30 bucks at wal-mart) they generally come with recipe booklets. make a smoothie out of there and add in a scoop or two of your protein -- viola! instant protein-y goodness. :-)

Hi Shortsteph, reminder of why you need at least 1800 cals..
1. You will be able to perform in training better, therefore burning cals and building muscle.
2. You can't get that tight, sleek, muscular look without eating enough to actually get the muscles.
3. You will feel better throughout the day knowing your body is getting all it needs.
4. You will have tons more energy.
5. You will be giving your bod all the nutrients it needs to run at top speed!

Protein pancakes: My recipe
.5 cup oats
.5 cup cottage cheese
3 egg whites
cinnamon???!!!!
Makes about 4-5 cakes. Blend all ingredients and make like regular cakes! I put PB on mine or sf maple syrup...YUM!

Add weight when you can complete 3 sets of 12 reps each without going to failure. You should be lifting as much weight as possible with going to failure in your last set in the last 8-12 reps.

Whoooohoooo!!!! Look at those inches pouring off!!!!! Now get your cals up and you will see even more progress!!! CONGRATS :)

Steph.....great job altogether. congrats on your measurements and I noticed you said you did 4 min running with 1 min walking.........that's a really good improvement. before you know it you will be able to run 15-20 nonstop. It's really empowering. That is very impressive. I am working on building my calories up as well. I am not where I should be yet....but I am getting a little better. I can tell you that my energy is the biggest improvement I have seen so far. I am hoping the bodyfat will follow shortly.

keep up the good work....very interested to see your progress.

Great job on the measurements!!!!

Steph,

BUMP to what Arose said! You need cals, girl! If you're having trouble getting enough to eat, get a meal replacement protein instead of an isolate -- start throwing stuff into your shakes -- bananas, yogurt, oats, PEANUT BUTTER -- get those cals! 1800 or bust, baby, that should be your motto. :-)

Arose -- that protein pancake recipe sounds fantastic...man I wish I had a stove here. Or cottage cheese. :-(

Workout looks pretty good -- you going for an upper body/lower body split?

Add weight until your form starts to suffer. Form is extremely important -- don't sacrifice it just for the sake of adding more weight.

good job!

I ran for a min at a time and walked a min.. 4 min total... I just havent had enough calories in the morning.. I get tried really easy... I think I did over do it last week.. Got my heart rate monitor... I didnt go over my highest rate... I probally could have went more.. It was 70 degrees outside.. and I had only had 300 cal for b-fast that morning.. I was exhausted..

I think I will try again on Thursday to run somemore.. with a bigger b-fast..

got my protein now so that helps...

Thanks!

Sorry I read that wrong, but I'm still happy for you for getting out there and doing it. I was trying to get this link for you from Runnersworld.com but for some reason I can't get it to paste in here.

anyhow...I think if you keep at it you can do a 5k in 6-8 weeks or so. If you go to runnersworld.com
there is a "beginners" section.......in there I saw a link that said something about.......8 weeks till your first 5k.

5k is the typical beginners race, or more elite runners will use them for sprint work. it's a great fun distance.

What you can also do (your kids are around the same age as mine so this could work)
alot of the races around town will have a "fun run" which is usually a 1 mile event. Kids are always welcome on those races, or people with jogging strollers and that's exactly what it is........FUN. I take my kids on those now maybe once a month come summer time. I like them to be apart of what I'm doing. Plus if you did that 1st before a 5k, you would know a little more of what to expect. Races are really fun because there are just sooo many people, they have aid stations, water stations and usually at the end of races there are door prizes (as you wait for the winners to be announced) they have fruit and candy at the finish line......Depending on how big the race is they have live bands and children's booths......
my kids have their own collection of tshirts now from the "races" they have done.

as for breakfast.........hmmm girl I am a diehard when it comes to carbs before a running day. I might cut back a little if I'm not running (and i keep hearing that is bad too) but you need to fuel yourself to do cardio.....there is just no way around it. It doesnt' even have to be big. have some oatmeal and a banana......that is something you also have to play with before a race. figure out how much you need to eat before your run, how early like 1 hr before or 2 hrs before.....

since high school my favorite "race day" breakfast was an eggo waffle sandwich with banana and peanut butter (my daddy's special) but now with a little more understanding......i could see a protein pancake (the syrup would be a welcomed bit of sugar for a run) with that banana

anyway........have fun...you won't keep your training up if it's something you don't like to do

I did look that up on runnersworld.. about a few about.. I might be able to run 20 min.. by end of May I think I had figured..

I might have to set a goal for that...

I have an old neighbor he runs.. maybe he can help with the races in this area.. He is not running right now cause of a knee injury...

I think my oldest son would run the fun runs.. He likes track.. my youngest.. not so sure..

Ok getting my cal up there.. I still dont see how I will lose weight eating so much.

I was hungry when Iwoke up this morning..a good sign right..

I gotta figure a good way to get my protein powder in the morning..

I tried in my oatmeal this morning.. not good ick.. I like the shakes.. but its a lot to drink in the morning..

I think Im going to try using my coffee and mix some milk with it for morning drink..

Maybe I should try making some homemade protein bars.. but my protein is vanilla... or pancakes...

Ok its raining today.. so I guess I will walk at the mall or maybe I will try to run later this afternoon... in between rain... going to Bowflex for sure though.

Have a great day everyone!

Great job upping your calories....it will help!! I think the pancakes are a great idea for breakfast. I use egg whites, ff cottage cheese, oats, cinnamon, vanilla and flax seed. I'm usually in to much of a hurry to blend it in the blender so I just throw it all in the frying pan and top with sf syrup (I call it mush instead of pancakes). I've seen other recipes that use protein powder too if you want to use it. Homemade protein bars are also really good if you're rushed in the morning.

protein powder
coffee/ff creamer

snack
half pbutter on wheat

Lunch
tuna
2 egg whites
protein shake(recipe at bottom)

Snack
L-fat granola bar

Dinner
baked Spagetti with cheese
garlic toast(this was a big no no)

OK so I went over board on the cal and fat...

Wed's are hard we eat at church so I have to be careful... I try to eat Low fat during the day to take up for the extra.

I'm getting more protein in there at least :)

Ok here is the recipe for the shake something I can handle.

1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
8 oz of black coffee I use columbian
2 oz of 1 % milk..

mix in blender.. its kinda frothy on top like a cappuccino. Not to bad

Ok enough about food.. Cardio for the day.. I have already done that...

I walk/ran... get this sthpadregrl I ran intervals like usual..

I ran a 10- 1 min intervals with walking.
Yahoo!! im excited.. and not to winded after I feel great!! body and mind!

First time I ran that long.. think I should do this again or move to the next step.. 2 min runs with 1 min inter for 7 times running total of 21 min.. not sure my 2 miles is long enough to do that though.

oh and the 7 & 8 where up hill.... a good incline... although none of my course is really flat... I'm just thinking what could I do on a flat course..

That recipe that was posted for protein bars... is choc protein the best in there or do you think vanilla would be ok?

Ok if you got this far today thanks.. I'm feeling great..

Today is weigh in day hope the scale is good to me.. I'm not sure after adding all these calories.. but you gals say it works....fingers crossed.. I will let you know later today how it goes.

Thanks again!!
Everyone keep up the work!! have a great day!!

Steph,

Is your protein whey-based? I've noticed my whey protein makes my oatmeal all soupy and gross, so I started putting it in skim milk instead and pouring that over cereal. Another good breakfast is mixing your protein in cottage cheese and eating it with fruit.

Betcha vanilla protein bars would be juuuuust fine. I love vanilla, myself. :-)

Good job on the running! And seeing wildlife in the woods is great -- until it tries to run you over. Almost got brained by a deer running in Missouri a couple of months ago -- it was awesome. :-p

you're doing great,
Sunny

Whoa whoa whoa! Don't be disappointed! If you would really like to keep track of your weight I would suggest to do it weekly at the same time of day, preferably in the morning. Many things can contribute to your 1 lb difference, more water, more salt, eating close to weighing, etc. Do not worry about the pound! Go ahead and weigh yourself in the morning weekly, it will give you a more accurate reading. You are doing fantastic! Keep it up!

Hey girl..........good job on the running, seriously 10 min is awesome. I think you should probably do that 1 more time then go to 2 min intervals. But really it all just depends on how you feel that day. If you do your 1 min, and feel like you can go on.......then do more. You could do 5 min running and 4 min walking, and end up doing 30 min cardio rather than only 21 min. YOu really just have to listen to your body. Push it a little....but listen too.

don't sweat the 1 pound. Especially while you are adjusting to the adding calories. It will work. I do believe in fairies, I DO I DO
sorry......random thought
anyways...i'm still adding calories myself and I haven't started losing yet, but I know that it takes time for our bodies to adapt. Give it a couple more weeks of consistent eating and cardio and you'll see it.

have a good day!! Did you talk to your neighbor? Where are you? If you can do 20 min by end of May I am sure by summer you can do a race comfortably

Hey I did reweigh today... in the morning time like usual..

I LOST A POUND... YEAH!!

not so bad for adding those cal this week.
No I havent talked to the neighbor I need to call I guess.. He is a couple of miles away no dont live by them any more... but Next weekend we will be at his house for the sons communion party.. I will ask then If I can find time.. Then maybe I will be running longer spans than 1 min run 1 min walk...
So how long does it take an average person to finsih a 5K?
I have been using my heart montior while I have been running too!!

My highest heart rate shouldnt be over 177 i think... While running its about 166.. so I probally could push it a little more.. but since I have had problems with lightness and stuff.. I thought I would play it safe.. till the get the calories up there..

I hope I do ok on diet the this weekend its always the hardest..

I live in Western KY.. Near the Ohio river...

I went and tried on clothes today for fun..

size 9 fit if my thighs werent so big... I have lost there though.

so Im down to 140 whohoo..

my short time goal is 135 by apr 27.
I might make it will be close.

Then I guess my reward will be cake for my b-day.. ya think thats fair.. as long as I dont get to carried away..

hi shortstepth :)
congrats on the lost weight. i do have a protein pancake recipe that doesn't use cottage cheese, but it's kind of hard, not as soft if you use the cottage cheese. i dont' remember the exact recipe, as i add/remove ingredients often...but you can estimate by the results by the batter. you can just add some milk if it's not liquidy enough.

1 scoop whey
1/2 cup oats
6 eggwhites
1/4 cup skim milk
cinnamon, vanilla extract, splenda

My weekend wasnt to good for eating... ugh

Friday night we went out to eat.. I told ya about that..

Saturday was really really bad... I ended up taking Seth (6) my youngest to the ER.. he was playing outside.. hammering a battery like a C cell I guess not sure though.. It smashed spattered battery acid (black stuff) all over him... in his eyes, on his forehead, and arm...

He is fine today.. man was that hard on mom.. we had to hold him down 2 times in the ER.. just me... Husband was off working... ugh!! anyways.. no scratches and minor burns under his eye thats it...Thank God...

So I was getting ready to eat my lunch when this happened.. so no lunch till after ER... Took boys to McDonalds.. for happy meals.. got one for myself.. and a soda for me.. what was I thinking... I havent had a Dr pepper for months.. it was so sweet I didnt drink a kid size.. my oldest finished it up..

So if that wasnt bad enough... at 9:00 the family goes out for dinner with my husbands brother and family(he paid) Texas Road house..

So I had chicken with black bean sauce with cheese.. and rice and green beans.. no bread!!! But it was so late.. I didnt really eat much the whole day..

But I got back on track yesterday no such a bad day.. I told you the weekends are bad eating for me..

Yesterday we spend the day working in the garden... so at least some exercise...

So my fitday journal is lacking some entrys.. maybe I will have time to fill
them in.. if not.. I will start for today..

I have already Bowflexed today and I ran/wallked..

I'm up to 10 min ... ran 1 min intervals total 10 runs(several up hill) ick.. total walk and run was 30 min... its was hot this morning.... gotta run earlier...
Suppose to rain this week.. So I might have to run 2 days in a row... and walk at mall when its raining..

I'm going to be close to my goal of 135 by apr 27th... not sure im going to make it though...I'm happy to be 14 pounds thinner from when I started in mid January.

thanks for reading...

Is there ever days you just dont feel like working out?

Today is that day! argh! I gotta go run/walk before the rain at least...

diet was OK yesterday we did go out to eat at a buffet place.. I did ok.. salad, chicken breast, and some green beans.. oh and some kind of crab salad.. i'm sure this had mayo in it.. oh well.. I will have to figure those numbers up and post them later.

I'm going to do Cardio first this morning.. then Bowflex.. see how that works..

Oh my heart monitor I bought a few weeks ago died... I took it back..they didnt have one to replace it with either.. :( So I guess I will have to find another on online somewhere.. cause no one else in town has any..

Yuck! That is too bad that you don't feel like working out today...that's why I go in the morning right away because it is always SO much harder to go at night when I am already pooped from the day. I don't even think about it in the morning, I just know i have to get up and go before work. Have you had any days off recently?

You are doing great and your body and mind will thank you when you are done with the workout ;)

You did great at the buffet!!! Those are situations that I just cannot control myself in! I am impressed!

I agree if I dont workout in the morning.. I might skip... I took yesterday off I felt guilty I didnt run/walk or something...

I usually run/ walk 3 times a week and bowflex 3 times a week...

Gotta work around kids schedules ya know...Not sure how I'm going to do it when they are on summer break.. I guess I will run/walk before DH leaves for work.. that will be super early.. I'm not a morning person..

by the way last night a I had to take my oldest son(Mckay) to minor er center.. allergic reaction.. His eyes..puffed up.. allergy season is bad here.. got some meds and eye drops they alone where $70 bucks... man! He is better today I sent him to school.. Need to call and check on him later.. he took some bendryl for the itching and swelling.. hope he doesnt fall asleep in class.

Dr said if I had waited till this morning it would have been really scary and huge.. Glad I took him..

Gotta work on the diet some...

OK I need to Bowflex now... That is a set schedule MWF...

Saturday was really really bad... I ended up taking Seth (6) my youngest to the ER.. he was playing outside.. hammering a battery like a C cell I guess not sure though.. It smashed spattered battery acid (black stuff) all over him... in his eyes, on his forehead, and arm...

He is fine today.. man was that hard on mom.. we had to hold him down 2 times in the ER.. just me... Husband was off working... ugh!! anyways.. no scratches and minor burns under his eye thats it...Thank God...

thanks for reading...

Hi Stephanie, I just caught up with your journal and man-oh...man... what a scary Saturday you had! I'm glad to hear Seth ended up being okay (for the most part), but I feel for you. I sometimes watch the things my kids do and I'm horrified at "what could go wrong"... I swear... I see danger *lurking* everywhere... LOL.

Anyway - I just wanted to jump in and say hi! :D

There is one like next weekend.. but im not ready to run 5K yet...
I cant find the information on the fun run for town either..

Spent lots of time with a friend had a girls day did some shopping and scrapbooking too..

Anyways,

I got the dates of some local races.. and... I talked with VP of the runners club(old neighbor).....

June 4 , 2005 will be my first 5K... thats my goal...

Although, My husband and nieghboor teased me alot.. That I couldnt make it or what ever haha..

Like I will get a trophy just 2 other women in my old age group running.. So I will finish 3 with trophy If I run... blah blah that kind of stuff.

But as I was leaving he did tell me to keep it up.. I would be ready for June.

I didnt eat really well this weekend.. with the girls day out and such.. I haven't even tried to put number in fitday yet. probally wont either..

I have a DR appt this morning..ugh!... So I gotta get...

I will have to do Workout this afternoon I guess..

Hi Stephanie,
I think it's great that you picked out at date for your 5K! I haven't even been bold enough to start seriously running myself, so I admire you for picking an actual date :D Hang tough and don't let any teasing get in your way... k?

Sounds like you had a fun "girl's" weekend! I need to have one of those myself someday soon...

Good luck at the Dr.s

I am seriously surprised that your neighbor was the vp of the group too....tell him to get their act together and get the races posted. LOL

yep they like to tease... but I he helped me pick the best course for me...He said the guy that posts the race had been busy he thought... He did have a schedule from their newsletter..He gave that to me.. He did help me out alot already... gave me a book to read.. for new runners and stuff. He is about 10 years older than I am...been running since he was a teenager... he is off this year knee surgery.. so I told him when He started back running.. he could run with me.. He said I Might be able to keep up... Rick kinda took up for me... with my Husband.. he said you know after that first race she finishes she is going to challenge you to run one with her.... I dont think my husband could do it.. he said it wouldnt be a problem.. he walks lots with his job in good shape blah blah blah... whatever we will see ...

sthpadregrl....I had to increase my calories.. cause of the lightness and stuff..I think that is what has helped me... cause if not I was getting lightheaded, tired, sick...

I'm hoping to get out this morning and run/walk.. it looks like rain.. the radar shows it close...

Just gotta get off my lazy butt and get moving... might try 2 min intervals today... I will see when I get moving.

Hope the date I picked in June isnt to close... I'm been re thinking that..

Hey!

Ok I did my run/walk...

I did 2 min runs with 1 min walks...5 min walk to warm up..
7- 2 min runs... total time out 26 min..

I thought I was going to beat the rain.. not... it rained a little before I left...then quit..

The first half I was dry... then it started to sprinkle.. about the time I made it back to my drive it was raining pretty good... I know the ppl on the highway in front of my house thought I was nuts...

It was kinda windy too.. but I made.. this is the first day of 2 min intervals.

So I happy that I finished... :)

Its about 55 outside.

Good morning..

Today hasnt gone the way I planned... sounds like last week.

I havent bowflexed for over a week... Need to do that today.. not sure Im going to get that in... I need to run/walk... most importance right now since I have a goal to run 5K on June 4th.. I know I keep writing that gotta remind myself..

I want to call and check in on prices of new Gym opening close to home this summer. Maybe I can lift there... Its hard to compare my bowflex with your free weights... some of the logo gets me.. not sure what ppl are lifting sometimes but I see huge numbers for several ppl.

I had to take kids to school this morning.. My youngest son waits till the last minute to do anything.. couldnt find his shoes... so missed the bus.. argh..The one day I have a million and one things to do..

Gotta run/walk... bowflex.. go to town get cookies for kids teacher apperciation week.. run to school take those.. volunteer.. washin teachers cars for teacher appeciation week.. plus a surprise baby shower for my oldest sons teacher.. ... then pick up kids from school...home then off to church tonight..

My back is sore today from shoveling mulch on my flower beds yesterday... i hope that counts as a workout.. hehe

My hubby extended one of our flower beds it is huge now. Going to put our swing right in the middle of it.. going to be super nice.. I still need another truck load of mulch to finish it and the other flower beds...

OK.. hopefully my b-fast has settled enough for my run/walk... not sure if im going to try 3 min runs today or stick at 2 I guess I will see after I warm up.

SB thanks for popping in... makes a difference when you see that someone is reading my posts.. I know there are others reading too though... Its hard to post to everyone journal I read too..

Have a great week..

Im hoping to get back on track..

Hey girl.........I havne't posted in a while either, just been so busy. Just wanted to let you know that apparently with schedules we will have our bad weeks (so im learning) keep it up though....do half a workout if needed or yourself to just run/walk 10 min straight out.......then you'll have to run/walk back home right LOL
anyways.......just saying hi...you're doing great still going for the 5k and i know how it is with kids in the am....I hate getting after them in the morning though. I feel like it ruins my day till I see them again in the afternoon, so the last thing i want to do is send them off like that. BUT........SOMETIMES they need a good swift knock upside the head i swear.........lol

.. My youngest son waits till the last minute to do anything.. couldnt find his shoes...

Hi Steph! That sounds SO familiar! My boys do the same thing. Every morning they have about 45 min to get ready to leave the house. I swear, the first 40 minutes are spent watching TV and eating breakfast... The last 5 minutes? Brush teeth, comb hair, get dressed, etc.... It's CRAZY...LOL. We always make it and thankfully they haven't been late yet, but dang. And then there's always the lost: (pick one) library book, lunch money, milk money, sock, shoe, lunch bag.... :D

I can't wait for summer! ;)

Anyhoo - I agree with sthpadregrl, any workout is better than none and you'll feel much better.

And I always count heavy yard work as a workout :D

Hope you have a great day!

Hey,

I got my run/walk in today... 2min invervals with 1 min walks... 7 runs... total 14 min...

Got all the things done that I needed to do today.. Yeah!!

Stayed away from the junk food at school too..

Although I did have lunch with my son at school. chilli and PB/jelly sandwich.

I weighed today too... No gain at least..

I'm stuck at 140...

I did eat alot of junk last week cause of my b-day though..

OK.. tommorow I might make my run/walk 3 min intervals with 1 min walks for 5 run.. that will make it 15 min run..

I'm thinking maybe about getting the rest of the mulch and finishing those flower beds..

Or maybe a bike ride.. who knows...

Hey Steph!

If you did bowflex today... you're probably fine not doing any cardio and enjoying your day playing with mulch :p Lucky you! It's raining here and pretty gloomy, wish we had our normal sunshine :(

My brother has a bowflex that he uses when he can't make it to the gym... he likes it. Do you like yours?

Did you ever find out if that new gym opening near you will have childcare? It helps A LOT!!!

Have a great day!

I did bowflex and went for a bike ride.. to lazy to take the truck and get mulch.. just enoying hanging out at home.

I havent called about the gym yet.. they are still building it.. not opening till summer they say.it would help a bunch if they had daycare... the YMCA is like a 20 min drive from here.. not practical... this gym would be about 7 min..

When school is out im going to have to do some major scheduling to get in my run/walk..

Yes I like the bowflex... its hard to compare to everyones free weights ya know. I use it lots more than my hubby.. we got it for both of us..
I guess I need some advice from someone with a bowflex...

I think i hit a platuea.. on the weight.. my calfs are growing from the running.. I need dont do legs on my bowflex.. I need to add ST for legs.. but I guess running helps..

the bike ride today didnt take long as before I started running.. I guess running is helping my endurance some..

Maybe when the kids get home.. if they want to go for a ride might get that mulch who knows...

I have a voluteer dinner tonight at school... going to eat before I go though.. Menu didnt look to good to me...

She is way taller than me.. and I know I was going slow for her.. but it was nice to have someone to run with this morning...

It was nice for a change.. I got out before the boys got out of bed.. and before the hubby left for work...

I'm going to start running earlier cause when school it out for the kids.. I will have to run before the hubby leaves... Or I wont get in a run

I did 2min intervals today.. with 1 min walks.. and i think I did total of 7 runs...I lost track..

had a toaster pastry thing for b-fast not much left in this house to eat... gotta go to grocery today...

Ok going to check and see how the hammercurl challenge went.. see if i can find the post..:D

Hello,
I've read through your journal and I want to thank you for starting it. I have learned so much from it. I too have just begun using a Bowflex. I am doing their Body building workout. I am a little sore right now. I am feeling muscles I never knew I had.
I also am a SAHM of 5. I will be starting Nursing school this fall. I am really committed to myself. I know it sounds weird to say that but after years of giving, giving and more giving it is sooo time to take a little for myself.
I will be keeping up with your journal as it has answered so many of my questions already! Take a peek at mine please (if you like) and let me know about any good moves on the Bowflex that work for you.

It's under Heathers Journal.

Hey Steph - about your 5K on June 4, you still going to do it though, right? Just not run all of it? I have several friends saying it's no big deal to take a break and walk for a short bit if it's your first. They say the cool part is the feeling of accomplishment when you actually cross the finish line!

SORRY…I’m in a bit of a hurry-lots of h/w to do, pls ignore the short sentences!

Oh ya mother's day tends to make us gain weight.....

Are u still keeping up with your cardio? I mean u r going to be running 5k…so don’t forget to train for that. HIIT seems to work for most people. Ab muscles should be treated like any other muscle. I think three days a week is the maximum…don’t do anymore than that…..post up what u intend to do during those three days of weight training. It’ll help other people improve it for you. Good luck!

I have been doing like 105 different crunchs a day 3 times a week...

so... is it productive to reduce it to 105 a week... hmm..

Ok here is the plan.. 2-4 sets with 5-8 reps

Todays...numbers are low... I will have to adjust the weight for next week

MON
Chest
Bench press 35# 8 40# 8
Chest Fly 30#8
Shoulders
Shoulder Press 30# 8
Rear Delts 30# 8 35# 8
Shoulder Ext 30# 8 35# 8

WED
Back
Lat Row
Lat pulldowns or
Lying shoulder fly
Arms
Bicep curl
Lying tricep
Seated tricep Ext
Cross tricep ext

FRI
Legs
lying leg ext
lying leg curl
Trunk
Low Back (8-12) reps of these..
Ab crunch resist
Rev crunch
crunch

Is this clear as mud...

I have been doing a full body workout 3 times a week... is this going to be OK?

I'm adding some things I havent ever done before...

I think that looks really good Stephanie, but I'd add lunges to your leg day. You only have two leg exercises in there, and they're both isolation movements.

If you aren't comfortable with lunges, just do bodyweight lunges until you're comfortable with the movement, then you can start adding weight. There's a lot of variety you can do -- front lunges, rear lunges, alternating lunges, 45 degree lungs, speed skater lunges, power lunges, etc...and they're extremely good for building shapely legs and glutes.

Also, you have three triceps exercises and only 1 biceps exercise on your arm day. Replace one of the triceps exercises (I'd get rid of the cross tricep ext.) with a biceps exercise like alternating hammer curls, preacher curls, or standing barbell curls.

Good luck!
Sunny

Thanks for the advice... problem is im limited with th bowflex... no free weights here.. so...

Hey Steph, on the lunges... walking lunges are great too! The good thing about lunges is that you don't necessarily need a lot of weight to really feel them. When I've been stuck at home (and felt really energetic) I've used gallon milk jugs filled with sand... or small bags filled with rolled coin. (those little suckers are heavy) :p Anyway, it's just a matter of taking lunging steps across your yard and back. It's KILLER! :D

Scroll down to the "walking lunge" section...
Thanks.. how many of these should I start out with...

Good morning...

It a beatiful day here.. going for the run/walk...

Going to try 3 min intervals today with 1 min walk.. 5 runs for total of 15 min running.. Hope I can do that... trying to add a little each week... see if I can at least run 20 min straight before the 5K in June... will see..

I havent been able to run with neighbor... hubby has been leaving early for work this week... and come to find out he might be working a job out of town for 3 or 4 weeks... argh! im not to fond of this idea at all... This will really put a damper on my training... the kids will be out of school next week.

Ok Im off to run/walk have a great day everyone!!

i still dont know how to quote LOL

girl that is awesome...........seirously that is good moderate improvements that you should be able to maintain and build on. That's the thing about running it's a pain in the a** getting started but it is soooo good for you and you can constantly improve. Whether it's distance, time, speed, stairs, hills intervals.....
stick with your intervals that will totally get you ready for the 5k...and yes people walk them all the time......I still walk them. The 1st one is just to get your foot in the door, get an idea of what to eat..where to park to find the starting line all of that stuff........work on times later. your 1st goal is to finish...you will be amazed at how empowering that will be....great job chica!!

Thanks.. how many of these should I start out with...

Lunges: I'd just start with no weight. Concentrate on form. You can probably start with 20 for 3 sets. If it's just regular lunges (like in the video) you can do 10 on one leg and then 10 on the other OR alternate your legs. If it's walking lunges you can just take 20 steps at a time. (I actually do 10 "steps" in one direction and then turn around and return doing 10 "steps". That would be one set. Then rest a minute or two and continue on with your 2nd set)

As you get your balance and form nailed, then start adding weights, 5 lbs in each hand... or 10.

Lunges are great!! There are lots of resources on the internet too... Enjoy :D

Hey Steph - I have the same thing happening here sometimes. My husband works shift work and then over-time on top of that. Of course, missing him is the obvious part of the issue. The other part is scheduling the kids, work and workouts. It seems like we are never on a "steady" schedule. Makes it hard to plan.

School is out next week there? Wow - are your kids on an all-year-round plan? School here is still traditional and kids get out on June 17th. Then I have no idea what I'm going to do :p Wish I was SAHM...

Good morning everyone..

Run/walk day... trying to decide if I want to stick with 3 min intervals or try 4 min..

I have less than a month till 5K... I havent run more than 3 min at a time. hmm what to do... I guess I will see when I get out there.. Its is beautiful this morning... sunny a little wind.. high humidy though.. still under 70 though.

After the run/walk.. got plenty to do.. I need to plant some new roses the boys got me for Mothers day.. and some flowers my MIL bought me for my B-day... yep they are still in the pots...

Plus I would like to work on my scrapbook... Its been forever since I scrapbooked.

Hubbys job has been postponed a week... Just as I was getting use to the idea of him leaving for weeks at a time.

Might work on those flowers after my run before it gets to hot outside who knows.

Ok I better go workout..

Everyone have a great day!! keep up the good work..

Stephanie,

Great leg workout! What color are the roses you're going to plant? My mom and I plant impatiens and marigolds in the garden every spring...I used to fly home from Duke just to help her, it was like a tradition.

What does the Hubster do?

have a great weekend!

Hey Steph! Let us know how the lunges go... k?

My gosh - how hot is it there that you have to wait for night to plant flowers? My boys and I planted about 100 bulbs a few weeks ago and it's so cool to see them growing - the sprouts are about 1 foot tall. They love seeing something they planted begin to grow. We're having some crazy heat here too - very unusual, but in the 80's. Which is hot for here. :)

Good job on the running too!

Good morning!

Weekend eats werent very good at all... lets not talk about that..

But, Hubbys job got postponed a week so he wont be leaving till this sunday.

The bad thing about this is my mom & dad are leaving for vaction the same week. what will I do...argh!! I hope the boys do well with dad gone for 5 nights... ok enough said about that.. let me get to the workout for today.

Chest
Bench press 30#8(each side)35#8.. I guess these would really be 60# & 70#
Chest Fly 25#8(each side again) weak I know
Shoulders
Seated Shoulder Press 25#8
Rear Dealtoid 30#8, 35#8
Shoulder Ext 30#8, 35#8

Oh well, the bowflex routine was weak....seems like I did better when I did a full body workout 3 times a week.

Ok for the Cardio

I went for a run/walk
4 min intervals 1 min walk.... total run time 16...wohoo!

It was cool this morning and sunny... the honeysuckle smelled sweet...

I think I'm going to try to run at least 3 times this week. Just a little over 2 weeks till the 5K..

I'm hoping I can run at least 20 min straight for the 5K... I will have to walk some I know... And I need a goal time for the 5K... what do you think will be good... I know I can walk 3 miles in about 45 min... so.... what do you think... let me know..

Have a great week everyone!!

Ha! That flower post was cute! Seems like everything I touch dies in terms of plants. Great job keeping up with your 5k training! Hmmm, for the goal time, if you can walk 3 miles in 45 minutes maybe you can aim for finishing the whole thing in about 35 minutes. Come to think about it that is a really fast walk to go 3 miles in 45 minutes! When I was thinking about doing a 5k a few weeks ago I aimed for 30 minutes and I thought that was pretty fast for me anyways. Maybe do a trial run on the course and see how long that takes and then make a goal to improve by 2-3 minutes on race day.

I don't think your workouts seem weak at all!!! You are pretty strong as a matter of fact. Keep it up and give yourself some credit for some AWESOME workouts!! Have a good day!

Ohhh, hope your son feels better, missing the last day of school sucks!

Thanks Arose... I'm not sure if I will be able to run that course before the race or not. Maybe 35 min would be a good time for the 5K.. knowing I will probally walk some if it... At least I got that in... might run later this evening.. suppose to rain in the morning...might run early in the morning though who knows.. I wanted to run 3 days this week...I usually walk, bike or some other cardio on the 3 day...

Its about time to measure again.. I will probally do that early next week.

I havent weighed in about 3 weeks....scale # can be disappointing...

My main goal is the 5 K right now. I talked to my brothers girlfriend.. she is running again she just did one of the local 5K for the barbque fest... she ran the whole thing in 33 min.it was pouring rain too.. she is going to run with me on June 4... hope I can keep up with her... But we might run together once a week maybe who knows.. Ok thats enough for today I guess..

Hi Steph! I'm tweaking my workouts too this week because Monday was definitely an off day :D

Are you getting nervous about the race? I'm sure I would be, but I still hope you do it! I'm pulling for you!!

I'm doing legs today too! Good idea about moving yours to today - don't want DOMS on race day.. that's for sure!

Have a great day!

Doesnt look like I'm going to get a run in before the race Saturday... Still going to do it.. probally will walk part of it.. not sure yet...I'm hoping to take a look at the track sometimes today if it quits raining...

I was going to run this morning but its raining.. so hubby let me sleep in..

I did my leg workout yeterday...

Lucky I did get some cardio in this week with all the walking and steps we did while on Mem weekend... but thats it for Cardio..

I need a plan for the race tommorow should I try to run till I'm tired or should I run intervals maybe... run half then walk some then run the rest... since I have only run a total of 18 with intervals thus far... not sure what to do..any advice? :)

Steph!!! You better do that race!!! I think you will do fantastically! I just say go out at an easy pace and see how far you can get, then walk a bit, and try to pick up the pace again after that! I'm sure your adrenaline will kick in a bit for the race and you'll be able to run a good portion of it. Good luck, and let us know how you did!!! We will all be awaiting the results :)

sorry i've been behind..........playing catch up here. I thinkyou are doing great and try to walk at least some of the course......i would see where you will park, and where you will start. (i still get lost in Tulsa) plan what you will eat for dinner and breakfast.......drink lots of water (this is all basic stuff)
really it's just the beginning of the race to figure out......after that just follow the crowd, you'd be surprised how far the adrenaline will take you as well.
i think you should start easy and run as long as you can, you might surprise your self. then just go back into your traning mode......6 min intervals if you can, or shorten them......6/2 or 5/1 at taht rate you'll probably finish in 30 min or so and then you can get all the freebies at the end of the race........
good luck and i can't wait to see what you think

GREAT JOB !!! I think it's awesome......girl just finishing is quite an accomplisment especially if you were getting some sore spots and blistering and it was hotter than anticipated. No race will ever be perfect (maybe i should have told you that beforehand LOL) but good job, and definitely strive for the 4miler if that is the next one, gives you 2 mths to build up what 9/10ths of a mile..........you can do that. a 2 min drop is definintely do able........

Good morning...

Went for a run this morning.. its 65 with 97% humidy.. wow..anyways..

I did 6min intervals 1 min walks with a total run time of 18min...

I thought I better go back to the last thing I did before the 5K.. quads still a little sore this morning.. but not to bad... advil has become my friend...

I think after I cool down I going to sit in the hottub...

I have to go to town to help mom today unload truck for her store.. not sure if i ever mention but she manages a Great amercian cookie company store... did you know that batter boxes are 30pounds a piece... she said to save my workout and come unload for her... her asst manger has quit so... I will give her a hand. then we are off for some fun with the boys.. might go to the zoo... or check out build a bear today.. the boys have been wanting to make bears for a long time.. have to travel about an hour from here.. not one in out local town.

My next race is going to be Aug 13th...(I put it here so now I have to do it) its the 4 miler... hoping by then I can run it all... that gives me 2 more months to train....at least I know now what to expect...

Thanks for all the encourgement in the last few months..

Nothing good to report today... I skipped the morning run.. now im regretting it... My legs arent quite healed yet from 5K.. Maybe I can get a walk or bike ride in later with the boys.. looks like rain though...

I have errands to run today and much work to finish.. but more $$ for Mp3 player still looking for one I like and can afford.

I need to work on the food though.. to much junk....

I have stuck with "no cola" though.. and lots of water....

I havent weighed since the end of April... I really guess I should do some measurements too..

enough rambling.. if you got this far thanks for reading...

Great job with the no cola---that can be addicting!! And I'm sure you'll cut junk out in due time, a little here or there won't kill ya ;)

As for the running, I think it'd be a good idea for you to maybe take a day off if your legs are not healed....it'd just be prolonging the pain!!! Walking would be great though I think.

Wow, no weigh-ins or measurements since April!!! You will have made some fantastic progress in these last couple months!!!

I need to do measurements soon.

thanks arose... I needed some encourgement this week... the junk food is kinda hard this summer with the boys home...

Hubby and I might take the kids for a bike ride this evening.. our town is having a family bike ride 10 miles... just worried about it being hot... I guess we will see later this evening.. at least I could get some cardio in today..

Morning Steph!

I saw that you weighed in, but no loss..?? Don't EVEN worry about that stupid scale. I think you should take pics and measurements.. ;)
I should talk... LOL... I don't do ANY of that... what's that saying? Do as I say... not as I do. :p (I'm too chicken)

How is the summer going so far? What do your boys do during the day?

And.... you mentioned junk food in the house. What exactly do you consider "junk food" - I know people have differenent ideas about it. Maybe this summer would be a good opportunity to just make some small changes towards healthier choices...??

One thing that I managed to do that has saved my kids from going crazy with snacks and sugar is to buy a shaved ice machine. Seriously.. for about $15 I got this little gizmo that makes shaved ice and then I buy those Torani SF Syrups in different flavors (Lime, Peach, Orange, Strawberry, Watermelon) and the pour a little of those on the ice. You can buy the syrups online and there are lots of different flavors.

The other thing I do is make SF Jello quite a bit....

I haven't gotten rid of everything "junk" in the house, I still think sometimes moderation is a good idea.. :)

What'cha think?

Summer is going pretty well so far...

We usually just hang out at the house... one day we might run errands.. and I try to find something "extra" to do that is fun.. like we went to build a bear earlier this week.. I figure we will have a day at the movies and park.. stuff like that.. the new pool is a plus too.. we spent 4 hours outside yesterday.. we are red today... at least we all tan well.

I consider Junk food... like chicken nuggets, corn dogs, pizza...

I can easily stay away for chips and snack cakes.. these things are reguarly in the house for DH to take in his lunch box.. and for the boys to snack on too.

Im not to worried about the weight lose.. At least I didnt gain.. I know the last few weeks... I havent had the greatest diet... but I do eat most junk in moderation.. I usally dont over idulge...

golf camp is a whole week thing.. 2 hours a day..

Been having problems with my knee.. Its really hard to walk up and down steps... So I havent been for a run since last tues... I think maybe its cause I didnt warm up enough for the 5K.. who knows.. im taking it easy on them for now.. see what happens.. I hate to make it worse.. Hopefully before the week is over I can run some...

I might take a run tommorow and see how the knees feel... Im anxious to get moving again...

I skipped my workout yesterday so Im going to catch up on that today while the boys are at golf camp.
I dont golf and have never tried.. my hubby has a little not much.. but with the boys into the sport I can see outings for the whole family.

This is Mckay's 3 year of golf camp he isnt to bad...
This is Seth's first year he is doing well I think.. tomorrow is the big comptetion cant wait to see how well they do...

I think we are taking the kids on a bike ride this evening... and stopping for dinner too... about 10 miles total I would guess not sure where DH wants to start.. but we have a bike trail around the city.. thats really nice and you dont have to worry about the kids getting hit by a car or something..

Oh I did find out a guy I have done embroidery work for in the past. Is a personal trainer at a new gym in town... He said I could come try it out... I think he said it was 36 a month.. but its across town not sure about that though.. I guess I will have to look into it maybe...

Still waiting for the new one to open that is close to home.. They are taking memberships aready but I want to see what the end results look like( they are still building..) its 34 a month..

Anyways...

put them up and ice them!!! They will feel much better. If they get real bad, I would recommend seeing a massage therapist, I can tell you it can really help, being on both sides of the table!!! I have bad knees as well as a bad back and if I want a really good intense workout that I can shorten up, I jump rope, it is still impact on the knees but it ups my heart rate so I can shorten my time!!! HIIT is extreamly challenging if your up for it!!!!

On friday night we did go for a bike ride with the boys.. about 6 mile total I would guess.. Stopped half way and got dinner.. the boys thought that was fun.. we had a great time... we had mexican though.. bad bad...

My eats havent been to healthy lately... I know not enough protein and stuff... Need to find some healthy eats.. and with Dh gone for the week... It will be easy to fix junk..... I think I might get some plain yogurt and some frozen fruit to make some yummy smooties ... instead of ice cream for dessert...

I'm staying steady at my weight but I still want to lose another 15 pounds at least... I can see the difference in my muscles I know there hiding under fat...

My knees feel much better today... not sure why they hurt so bad after sat's run... my dad has really bad arthisus(sp) in his knees wondering if that could be part of the problem...

Need to find some healthy eats.. and with Dh gone for the week... It will be easy to fix junk.....

Hi Stephers!

LOL... I laughed at your post because I have the opposite problem. When my hubs is gone (whether working the night shift or off on his hunting trips) I find it much easier to fix/eat healthy stuff.

Gosh - when he's home dinners are steaks, porkchops, ribs, etc... oink! LOL
When it's just me & the boys I can easily do egg white scrambles, chicken in wraps, big salads... EASY stuff. (And less dishes :D )

Glad to see your knees are doing better! On the glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM stuff... I don't know. I've heard it takes a few weeks of consistant use before you see any improvement. Some people swear by it and others say they didn't notice anything. I don't think it could hurt though! Just be sure to take it everyday.

Congrats on getting your running and workouts in too! Like you said... just keep on chugging ;)

Waist 32 lost of 2 in....This is at my belly button I couldnt believe this measurement at all.
waist about inch above belly button is 30.5 lose of an 1 1/2 inch.
hips 38 the same
chest 33/37.5 half inch loss:(
thigh 23 gain 1 inch
calf 14.5 gained about 3/4 inch...
Bicep 11 3/4 lost 1/4 inch... hope this isnt muslce loss.

I guess this isnt to bad the way I have been eating lately...

I havent taken a pic lately either... might have to get the nerve up to do that.

In the last few months I Have started taken BCpill again.. So I thought for sure I would see some gain in tummmy area...

ok enough I know... I had to share...

Oh I found out today that I can go to the new gym thats opening close to me for about 25 bucks a month... No sign up or key fee... I going to seriously look into this.. Then I can lift real weigh...

now I know why my bathsuit bottom isnt fitting to good.. I got it new last year.. Its a tankin... top is fine... I'm hoping I can find a bottom to match the top... Since I was planing on wearing this to a water park in the next month or so...Its ok for around the house.. but I dont think I want to flash anyone or lose it.... hehe...

Have a great weekend..

I talked with hubs he will be home a few hours sooner than I though yahoo!!!

Bye

I totally skipped my friday workout...Dh got home on Thursday night... And I tought Fri was saturday all day... I did get a run in on Sat morning... it was hot and humid though... I ran 11 min then 1 min walk then 10 min .... total run time 21... soon enough I will be able to run my 2 mile loop with no walking... goal is 4 miler in mid august...

Hubby is gone again for the week... I hate being a single mom for the week I gotta think of some fun things for the kids to do this week to keep us busy...

Maybe we will try a bike ride or something.. We have been spending at lot of time in the pool.. at least im getting an awesome tan..

hoping this week of food is better than last week while he was gone. I did get some fresh broccilli out of the garden this weekend.. might have to try some of it... My lettuce is ready to pick too...

I guess I will do my leg/trunk workout today and my reg monday workout together to catch up... at least that will give me 4 days to rest legs till Friday again...

There wont be any running till Dh gets home.. unless mom watchs the kids one night this week but it doesnt look good... Maybe tues night I can run at moms house will the boys play there... I just hate running at night... hot hot hot...

I cant wait to check out the new gym... I found out that I can get a membership... for 24.99 with no key charge and no intital fee.. that saves $69... plus 10 bucks a month...(this is a corporate rate) not sure I will like the gym though since I have always worked out at home... but thought it would be nice in the winter to have a place to run at least... who knows waiting to talk to a rep... they only thing I hate is they havent opened yet.. so you can see what they have and such...

ok this is a book today.. I guess I had lots to say to catch up from this weekend... I gotta get busy and get my workout in soon... before I skip it...

have a great week!!:)

Hi Steph.... LOL... I'm reading your journal. :D Although I don't post all the time.

That is so great about your 2" off your waist!!! You must be so EXCITED!!! - I know I would be! It's even better in the summer because you get to show off in your bathing suit... while you're getting that tan. (I'm jealous :p )

The thing about the journals - (from my point of view) is that I know I started mine basically for "me". :D While I just love getting responses and feedback from others, I need to make sure I don't lose track of why I started it. Sometimes it's a little boring and I feel like I'm talking to myself, but it's really good to write down your goals and feelings.... even if no one else comments or reads them. That way you can see your progress... yah? ;)

I think getting into a gym would be a fun change for you, it's always invigorating to change things around! Did you say it ends up being $10 / month??? That's great!

ya your right about the journal seems like im talking to myself sometimes... I like to get more respones ya know... but its for me thats for sure.. thats what I started it for... I gotta remember that..

The gym will cost 24.99 a month... the more ppl that sign up it will get cheaper... I think 5-10 it would be 24.99 11-20 or something like that 20.99... and so for... its for a corporate membership.. mall employess... at least save the up front fees...

Im just a little down this week I guess since hub's is gone again for the week I hate it so much.. cant wait till he gets home...

Hi :) I'm reading too.

I'm also alone for a while, my bf left for 19 days :( He's my 'gym buddy' as well so I don't have anyone to talk workout with - and no spotter either. The funny thing is, I'm working on a tan too - tanning salon though since I can't seem to get any outside tanning in because of work. I'm hoping to be a bronzed beauty by the time my bf gets back ;) Keep dreamin'... lol

Hope time flies by until your hubby is back. I'm glad you're starting to see results.

Hi Steph.... Bummer that your hubs didn't get home as planned. Besides the "missing him" part, is it also that you don't get your workouts in if he isn't home to watch the boys?

So - Herbie was good? Gosh - I'm old so I remember the original movie... LOL... It's still weird to me to see it being re-done. We just saw Madagascar last week and it was sooooo funny! Of course my older son wants to see Batman Begins and the Fantastic 4. We'll have to get those in soon!

What other summer plans do you have? Anything exciting? :D

Wow!! trying to catch up on journals... I finally found mine.

Last week was a wild ride. Didnt go to FL to see the shuttle lift off.. we watched it on NASA TV.. it was great..

This weeks eats not good at all... We went to the local amusement/water park last week... had funnel cake and nacos there... but we did walk lots and lots... so maybe that helped... I didnt workout a bit last week... no cardio.. I think I did lift on Monday though...

Still having A/C problems hoping to get that fixed soon... Its weird.. hubby is still troubleshooting that.. At least he is an Electrician... should be able to fix it if He can solve the problem..

The boys start school next week.. boy im I ready... I think they are too but they wont tell ya that. We went yesterday and spent lots on new clothes.

The anniversay trip was great... too much to drink though and fried greasy food didnt mix well.

We took the boys last weekend to Nashville... had a Cinnobon there... And lots of other bad foods.. Took the boys to see Charlie and the choc factory at the IMAX that was fun. Took them on a Carriage ride Downtown they enjoyed that too.. Did lots of walking too at least... we did splurge and got a nice hotel... 25 stories... we stayied on the 19 a great view of Nashville.. the boys really like riding the esclators and the glass elevator.

I did get up early this morning and went for a run... I warmed up with a 5 or 6 min walk then ran for 25 min... Hoping I can run another 5K soon and run the whole way this time. this is about 2 mile loop...

I got some new running shoes and I'm telling you... can hardly hear them hitting the pavement.. They are great and light.. Got them at a NIKE outlet for 29.99 cant beat that... Nike 20's .. so if they only last a few months I got my moneys worth out of them.

Wow if you got this far thanks for reading this is a book today.. trying to catch up.

I havent heard anything about the new gym yet... they aren't open yet.. Mall employess are suppose to get a price break so maybe I will hear something soon who knows.

Ok enough for today... I'm planned on lifting on Tues/Thurs friday this week I think...

Have a great day everyone!!:)

I did run this morning.(25 min total run/5 min warm up approx 2miles) It was hard to drag myself out of bed at 5:45 or so...

My workout are starting to get boring I need to work something else out I think.

They kids start school next week Yahoo!! doing a happy dance they are getting so bored at home. I still have a little of clothes shopping to do for them. Went and did all their paperwork at school yesterday.. and paid out lots of $$.

When school starts I can concentrate on diet again.. Its been hard this summer...

The A/C is still having problems hubby finally called a guy to come and look at it this afternoon... Hope he does charge a lot of $$... hence paid out lots for school this week. Hopefully they will find the problem...

After my run and workout this morning I went back to bed for a quick nap... 3 hours hehe.... I stayied up late last night... I guess I needed it.. It was a nice change of pace to be out with the girls last night.

Everyone have a great week!!! Keep up the good work..

I know my journal has been boring lately I need to find some new inspiration..

I missed my leg workout last week.. again...

The boys start school on Wed... so maybe I cant start a new split or something interesting.

Looking for another 5K to run in my area to see how much I have improved..

Good morning..

My boys started school today!

I went for a run this morning after I put them on the bus one hour later.. Gosh it was hot! not going to do that again.. I ran 25 min total.. with a 5or 6 min warmup walk.

97% Humidty today and about 75 degrees I would guess for my run.

I not going to do the 4 miler.. its in the evening.. I'm not up to running 4 mile yet.

Going to look for another 5K to do soon I think.

have a great day everyone!!

Wow, good job on the run in the humidity! That's enough to put anyone on their butts. :)

You'll get there!

Good morning..
My boys started school today!

Man! Where did the summer go? My boys are starting back in less than 3 weeks... it's gone WAY too fast for me:( We didn't get enough beach time in... that's for sure..

Were you boys eager to get back to school?

Hi Steph!

I don't know about you, but I'm going to start pouring over this bb.com site looking for new & different ideas for a new workout or split. .... seeing as how I can't really post any progress or anything remotely interesting in my own journal... :p

Have you hit up the bowflex website yet? I bet they have lots of workouts on there too.

I'll let you know if I find anything fun :D
