Hello, I have decided to start this journal along with a new healthy lifestyle! I posted a question the other day about ideas to help with getting enough calories in my day and I got some great replies so I am very excited to start my own log!
A few background tidbits....
I am 24 (just turned March 18)
6' tall and currently 178 lbs---past nicknames have indeed included "amazon chick" :)
Just got married to the love of my life in December on the beach!
Sometimes I lack motivation to eat right and workout because, like all of you, I have a million things going on. I'm not a mom (your work is NEVER done), but I work 2 jobs at about 60 hours per week to support my husband and I and I am in graduate school. So my day usually starts around 5:30 AM and ends up about 8PM. I would really support any thoughts and ideas to my following program:
Nutrition-trying to up my cals to at least 1800 per day...currently hitting about 1200-1300.
Meal #1 Pre workout-Protein shake if weight day, nothing for cardio
Meal #2 Post workout-Protein shake and cup of yogurt
Meal #3 Apple with PB
Meal #4 2 small whole wheat pitas with veggies (avocado, cucumber, green pepper, anything else green) and *hopefully* some lean meat
Meal #5 Cup of yogurt and some almonds
Meal #6 Tilapia! I had it yesterday for the first time and LOVE it! and a large salad
Supplement-multivitamin
Workout
Day1 Legs/shoulders
Squats 3 sets
Plie Squats 2 sets
Step Ups 3 sets
Hamstring Curl 3 sets
Calf Raises 3 sets
Front/side shoulder raises 3 sets
shoulder press 3 sets
Day 2 30 min cardio
Day 3 Chest/Tris
Bench press 3 sets
Flys 3 sets
Skull Crushers 3 sets
Kickbacks 3 sets
Working in Dips to replace skull crushers
Day 4 Cardio 30 min
Day 5 Back/Bis
Lat pull down 3 sets (working on chin ups instead)
Bent Rows 3 sets
Curls 3 sets
hammer curls 3 sets
Day 6 --- I am a server in a restaurant for one of my jobs and I put in an eleven hour day with no breaks every Saturday...is this considered "cardio" or should I go for a session before work?
Day 7 REST!!!!
*taifighter-thanks for your comments on my other question again. I was reading your journal and I see that you are getting married soon! If you need any advice or have any questions let me know-I had to plan ours 3 times at 3 different locations because of the hurricanes in Florida! You are going to have so much fun! Your dress pictures look soooooooo beautiful.
Thanks in advance for any comments:)

Welcome aboard.....
Happy BDay and Congrats on the wedding...
First things is what is your fitness goal?
Looking at your workout how many reps are you completing. You need to do miltary press first when doing shoulders its a compound just like bench and squats. On your back day try Deadlifts and move the bentrows to the beginning of your workout then lat pulls. the reason being is you usually lift more on compound exercises than on isolation and you dont want to were your muscles out before you get to the compounds.
Diet looks like you need some more carbs not enough to give you the energy you need.
Good luck on the journay and I will try to keep up with your journal.

well yay! you got yourself a journal ;)
Thank you for the sweet post about my wedding!!! Its over a year away, but I freak out about it sometimes like its tomorrow. I'm a bit of an anal planner, so I have to make sure everything is JUST SO. I'm honored to add you to my battalion of wedding advisors/planners ;)
that being said, CONGRATS on your wedding!!! a wedding on the beach is my DREAM..but my family would kill me if I didn't do the deed in PA. do you have any pics of the ceremony? I bet it was gorgeous!!
I agree with sheri (listen to what she says, she's smart AND amazingly strong) it would help if you told us what your goals were. Also, I found posting pics to be helpful too, even just for me to watch my OWN progress.
With the kind of day/lifestyle you lead you ABSOLUTELY need more carbs in your diet. Not just for muscle growth, but for energy and brain function!! :D
How is adding more cals to your diet coming? Keep at it. I have so much respect for you to work 60 hours AND be in school AND do this.
I swear, I've never met a group of more dedicated women than I have in this forum...they're mom's or mom's with jobs...or women with TWO jobs, or women in college AND working, or planning a wedding. I remember one girl found out she was pregnant and STILL kept going with weight lifting and her journal. So inspiring :)
Good luck, I'll be reading!!

Being a server at a restaurant is fairly good cardio. You may want to try to simplify things and only do a 3 day split with 1 day cardio a week. You don't need a lot of cardio if you are very busy and are not competing. I would burn out on that schedule.
Yes 1800 calories a day is a good amount to aim for.

Opps! I can't believe I didn't post my goals!! I want to lose body fat...I think I'm about 27-28% now and I'd like to be around 18-20%. I also want to have more energy and not be so tired all the time, although I think that upping my cals will be a huge part of that. Thanks for all the replies!
Taifighter-I'll post some pics of my wedding if I can figure it out tonight!

If you have been eating around 1300 calories a day, I would recommend NOT trying to lose weight right now. Eat an average of 1800 calories a day and lift heavy for a month. Then your metabolism will be faster. Then you can add extra cardio.

Thanks terracotta, I am okay with the weight and size I am at right now and I'm in no big hurry to get down to that bf % so I will work on upping cals for the month. (I look smaller than I weigh) I lift heavy now-about 8-10 reps to failure on the last set. Thanks for the tips!

After my long day at work yesterday I was very proud of myself! I did not eat one *bad* thing from the restaurant I work at!!! We had all sorts of things floating around-biscuits, cheese sticks, alfredo pasta, candy, cookies...whew-I didn't have one bite and although I REALLY wanted a cookie, today I am so glad I didn't have one! So I didn't work out yesterday because of my 10 hour day walking around and I think I'll take today off-other than to go play some basketball and practice for an intramural game tomorrow. I have tons of homework to do today and its pretty nice out here in Florida so I may go do some work by the pool. I am weighing in tomorrow and I know I've lost a few pounds and I look a ton better even from just last week...it feels good to be able to eat and be full and still lose weight. I hope everyone has a great weekend and I'm still working on posting some pics!

Thats great! I personally find it easier to have nothing over just one bite.. the one bite leads to more.
Lucky you living in Florida.. it's around -5 (celsius) most of the time here.
Can't wait to see those pics!

hi there arose ^_^ welcome to the boards!
for your diet, what is the macronutrient breakdown? it might be good to see a sample of your caloric intake.

03-27-2005, 06:34 PM
aprilai-For my diet I'm getting a 40 carb/30 protein/ 30 fat ratio right now. I should probably decrease the fat a tad but I'm working on upping my cals right now. On the foods I eat now I'm getting about 1500 cals per day which I know is way too low. On a few suggestions I added a fish that I really like, tilapia, and I added sunflower seeds(because almonds were way too expensive!) I'm thinking I'll add another whole wheat pita to my day, maybe to snack on. I just bought whole wheat tortillas too and they have more cals so I think I'll hit about 1800 when I add those in. I'm going to stick to 1500 this week and then keep increasing by 100-200 cals per week so my body can catch up :)
terracotta-I'm the same way when it comes to any junk food, just one bite and I think, hey that didn't hurt me, what about another? Then, before I know it a package of oreos are gone. I hope I can keep this up...I ate too much peanut butter today but at least it wasn't chocolate and it settled my sweet craving! I still feel a tad guilty when I look at that half empty container that I just bought this morning but tomorrow's a new day and the peanut butter has a new limit-3 tablespoons a day to start and then I'll slowly get down to 1-2 :)

Examples of sweet things I have:
caramel rice cakes (50 cal, 4 grams sugar each)
apple in the micro with 1tbsp of brown sugar and 1/2 tsp cinnamon.
yogurt with grapes
green or orange pekoe tea with 1.5 tsp sugar and 3 lemon tea cookies
coffee with 2 tsp sugar and halfandhalf
you see I eat the simple added sugars every day but I am not competing, I'm just trying to gain muscle and strength so I didn't cut them out completely. Which is one reason I don't post my diet every day.

What a dreary day...rainy and humid...yuck. I weighed in this morning at 178 still but last Monday I was 184 (my highest in about 4 years!) so I had a good drop for the week. My clothes fit better so that's a plus and I lost a couple inches on my body so I'm happy about that. I'm in such a terrible mood today, I just want to quit everything I'm doing and just go home and cuddle up with a cup of hot chocolate and watch TV. I usually feel this way on Mondays because it is after my one day off of work per week but I get my period this week so I'm feeling extra bad. I thought about talking to my boss to leave work but I hate doing that without being "sick". I get really bad mood swings with my period and I always have, I've been on the pill for longer than I can remember-7 years maybe, but I've changed pills quite a few times due to this moodiness. I'm just not motivated to do work, do homework, or go to class tonight. I overslept my workout this morning so I'll have to go after class at about 8 tonight.
I hate feeling ungrateful for things that I have but I have to work so darn hard to get them I just want to quit! Arghhh, today is only 9 more hours and then tomorrow will be better...sorry for the rant to anyone reading :(

Okay, so I post in here a lot, but hey, that's what its for, right? I am feeling better, I went home for lunch to be with my hubby and he made me laugh and took care of me...he's studying for his doctorate in Psychology and every once in a while he might suggest why I am feeling a certain way and how it may be psychologically induced. I have to say that I totally agree with him most of the time. I also spoke to my boss about taking some vacation time and she was all for it! I am still dreading class tonight, and since I did terribly on the midterm I really have to pay attention and actually learn something now ;) Then I get to watch an intramural basketball game tonight, and maybe I'll play...I get a tad intimidated because it is an all-men's league and I don't know the guys on my team very well (other than my husband) and I don't know how they feel about a girl subbing in for them----even though I'm better than about half of them :) We'll see how gutsy I'm feeling tonight and how many players we have. Other than that I'm going to hit up cardio for about 30 minutes before the game!

I've ranted and raved about diet and how to avoid binges or overeating all over the place in this forum - If you need advice, shoot a question my way, hon! :) Are you eating natural peanut butter? Also, you're tastes sound a lot like mine - peanut butter and chocolate make Julie a happy girl. ;) I was given a great protein bar recipe that uses chocolate whey protein powder and natural peanut butter and other easy ingredients (oats, vanilla extract, flax seed if you like). It's excellent. I posted it on the fourth or fifth page of my journal if you want it. It's great for those chocolate/sweet cravings - Tastes like fudge (but with a protein punch!)
Good luck!!!

Well, the game last night went great-I played for about half of it and scored a three! After that first shot though everyone saw I could shoot so they started playing pretty tough defense which was good, but we won! I got clocked in the face pretty good by a guy's elbow and I have a bit of swelling this morning but its not too noticable. My hubby played great too so it was fun for both of us. Another game on Thursday night...we're one and one so far...
I worked legs and shoulders this morning and my shoulders are killing me right now!
Squats 9 reps 3 sets
walking lunges 9 reps 2 sets
step ups 7 reps 2 sets
hammy curls 8 reps 3 sets
calf raises 10 reps 3 sets
shoulder press 8 reps 3 sets
medial raises 8 reps 3 sets
front/lateral raises 11 reps 2 sets

Hey girl....i'm fairly new at this and don't have much advice to offer, just glad to be learning from all the women on these forums...i did want to say i think it's absolutely awesome that you are doing intramural sports with your hubby. It's great for your relationship (unless you get competitive with him hahah) but it's so good to remember to "play" again. Do it for the fun and not looking at heart rate monitors and counting calories. so congrats on the win...and keep it up. I've played on men's leagues and in the military even our "sports" days were with all men. You will only be a better player for it, and I love just stuffing a guy. hhahah

Hey sthpadregrl, I love basketball, it's great to find other girls who'd prefer to play with guys! I did it for 4 years in college, pick up games every night for hours and hours! It improves your game dramatically...wow, I can't believe you played right up with the military guys! That is so awesome! Do you have a journal on here...I'd highly recommend it, it keeps me accountable and not want to "cheat".
But really, if I could go back to those college days and play bball every night I would in a heartbeat-too bad life gets in the way!
Let me know if you start a journal and I'll keep up with it!
*I love stuffing a guy too...especially when all his friends start doggin him after!...and then I think, I could do that to any one of you!!!!!!hahahahaha

Sthpadregirl -- you in the military? What branch? I'm army.
Arose -- You played college ball? That's awesome. I wish I could have played ball...I'm lousy at sports that require coordination. ;-) I just read through your journal and I'm totally rooting for you, we started our journals at roughly the same time.
I second the request for wedding pics. :-)
be strong!

Pachika,
Thanks for the post! No, I didn't play college ball, I went to a big 12 Division 1 school and didn't quite make the cut, although I did try! We had a huge rec center with about 20 full length courts and every one of them was full every night with people playing pick up games, mostly guys, and that's where I played. At first no one wanted a girl on their team but I got to know a ton of the guys there and soon enough all of them wanted me on their team! I'll have to read your journal and I'll make a real effort tonight to post some pics ;)

Arose..sorry we keep missing each other. LOL saw your response in my journal as well. We started around the same time so hopefull we can catch up to these ladies....
I'm actually addicted to Taifighter and MsJewels journals...they are some empowering women on here and so helpful to everyone.
Paichka........I was army, but out now. I was reading your journal the other day also...I think it's awesome what you have going on over there. I miss the army life believe it or not...haha so I was very interested in your lifestyle. Very curious how you adjust your diet while eating in the dfac. I also remember the days of having the guys waiting for you to get off of "Their" equipment. of course they weren't calling me Ma'am either. LOL
I didn't do any college ball either. I played on the post team in Georgia and we played a lot of exhibition games with the local colleges and that's as close as I ever got. But the pick up games around the post were the best yrs of my gaming. I've played in a couple of corporate leagues now and it's a joke. LOL of course I'm not in the same shape either.
Anyhoo......keep playing while you can. I'm more of a runner now but only because it's too hard to get pick up games going. We are working on getting a goal in the parking lot at work to see if we at lunch scramble a little during our lunch hour since so many employees workout.
I'm playing soccer now and that's a whole other animal.. i chalk it up to my interval training for the week.
I have noticed that my legs are a lot stronger since I started playing.
has anyone noticed if they run more sprints or hills if they are actually gaining strength as well....?????

Well, I am feeling pretty energized today so I think I'm going to hit the gym tonight after work for some light cardio-maybe incline walking (my favorite) or some elliptical. Does anyone else feel like they "have" to workout sometimes just because they have the time? I don't know if that sounds right, but on Tuesday and Wednesday I only have to go to work from 8-5 so I feel like I should be working out at night too even if I worked out in the morning. Otherwise, I'm just going home and sitting on my butt. It's just light cardio on those days....I guess I'm so busy the rest of the week that I feel like I should still be busy on these nights. I definitely thrive in a stressful environment and need to be doing things ALL THE TIME! (I think this might be some sort of psychological disorder lol!) Anyone else feel like this?

I totally feel the way you do. If I'm not planning a meal, or researching exercising, or doing exercises, then I feel like I'm not focusing on my goals, or am afraid that I'll stray from the path of success. BUT, I'm starting to realize that I can multitask and have other interests, too, while maintaining my healthy lifestyle. The body needs rest, so don't feel guilty about treating yourself on your night off, instead of working up a sweat. But, hey, if you feel great doing it and it's what you enjoy, then by all means, do it! Just ensure that you're eating enough cals for the extra exercise so you're not burning off muscle.

yep i was the same way before. that was one of my mistakes starting out...i went to the gym EVERYDAY and 1-2hrs there, thinking that I am burning away the fat because i'm constantly working out...that was so untrue, since eventually my progress stalled and i was left soft and weak.
after a while you learn to really listen to your body and that less can be more. that took me a very long time to learn...
oh and congrats on the eating clean! the good feelings of eating clean is sooo rewarding =)

April, I'm so glad you learned that NOW at 16!! You are light years ahead of me. I did that for years up until a few months ago. I STILL have to fight the urge to do more exercises just because I haven't lifted a full hour...or don't feel like I'm going to fall down. We're supposed to CHALLENGE our bodies but not kill them!! :D
The greatest lesson I've learned so far is that our bodies NEED rest and food! THAT is where you build your muscle, make your gains and burn your fat. Exercise is actually a rather small part of the puzzle. At first, that was hard to deal w/ because I always thought I could make up for a night of pizza and beer by starving myself the next day and doing 2 hours of cardio! What a schmuck I was!!! ;)
In reality, our bodies are molding themselves when we eat clean calories in the right proportions and when we REST!! REST REST REST!!! THAT is when you're body repairs and YOU need it! I know its hard to shake, trust me...as an ex-dieter, cardio freak binger/starver I know its hard to let old habits die. But don't feel guilty about not working out every day. You are actually doing MORE for your body that way!!!

Thanks guys! I know I'll learn to take a break here and there but I was feeling so awesome yesterday I went to the gym and did steep (as steep as you can on an incline) walking for about 30 minutes. It felt pretty good and I went home feeling like I had a great day. Today, on the other hand, is a totally different story...my butt hurts in soooooooooo bad and I think I need assistance bending down to go to the bathroom!! :P I was planning on doing HIIT tonight but that will not be happening unless my legs loosen up considerably before then! I think the elliptical will be my best shot...maybe just 30 min moderate intensity. Whew, feels good to be sore though!

Okay, so I forgot to post my funny story yesterday...I told sb cali about it because she was talking about forgetting a sports bra and I told her how much I hate it when I forget to bring "necessary" workout clothes with me to work. Well, yesterday I brought everything I needed and I went to change in a bathroom stall at work...they aren't the biggest and I don't like putting my clothes on the floor for some odd reason so I put them on the upper part of the toilet where you can take the top off, by the flusher (I am in no way any kind of handy woman-sorry!). I took my shirt off of the thingy and one of my socks plopped right into the toilet!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I started cracking up and then realized it was sinking! I grabbed it (my hand did NOT touch the water) before it all got wet and tossed it in the trash! So I had one sock for my workout yesterday, they were the little socks so you couldn't tell but my left foot felt a little funny all naked in my shoe. Hmmmmm, what we go through just for a workout! ;)

yay!! Maybe its all mental, but I've found glutamine GREATLY improves my recovery. I take 2 before working out, 2 after and 2 before bed. Now I just feel pleasantly sore...like I know I've worked hard...but not that deep acheyness or exhaustion I'd get from lifting an hour everyday for 5 days!!

I'll post this in your journal because I don't know if you will check my journal again or not...
Fats slow down the absorption of protein. You don't want protein to slowly absorb preworkout, therefore fats should not be eaten preworkout. I eat my meals like this. I'm not saying it's right or perfect, but it has worked for me:
meal 1: carbs & protein
meal 2: Protein, fibrous carbs, fats
meal 3: same as above
Preworkout: carbs and protein
Post workout: carbs and protein
Meal 6: fats and protein
The fats at night are good to slow down protein absorption and keep your body fed all night.

Alright, well yesterday I did 40 minutes for cardio-I thought I'd only do 30 due to my soreness but I blew past it! I was pretty proud of myself....until I got home :( I am a bridesmaid in a wedding in July and I just got the dress yesterday. Granted, it is a size smaller than my wedding dress(and it fits well-no alterations needed so that made me smile), it just does not flatter my shape! It's a two piece and it has detailing at the waist, which is fine, but it the top stops right at the fattest part of my hips and makes them look huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Arghhhh...do you guys think that by July I would be able to transform my shape a tiny bit to be able to feel great in that dress? Or is this just a pipe dream? If anyone has any motivational stories I'd also appreciate those :)
Anywho, workout this morning was back/bis:
Assisted Chin ups 3x5 (first day of these!!)
Lat pull downs 2x8
Bent one arm rows 3x10
Pullovers (not sure if that's the right name) 3x10
Hyperextensions with weight 3x10
bicep curl 3x10
incline curl 3x10...increased weight...muhahahaha!
And, thanks to MsJewels, cable crunches and cable side bends...just a couple sets to try to see where I should be targeting my muscles. I did have some trouble isolating my abs on the kneeling cable crunches...it didn't feel like they were doing much work?
Alright, enough of this novel, I'd appreciate any responses to the dress dilemma though!!!

Thanks again terracotta, man I just feel like crap today! I feel fat and yucky...I don't even want to weigh myself tomorrow for fear of my gain! I ate about 1700 cals yesterday though and maybe that's why I feel fat, I haven't eaten that much in a while.
Its frustrating because I know I'd be where my pants were saggy and hanging all over the place if I dieted like I used to (lots of cardio and little food). It makes me want to do that again. The hubster was real sweet about it though last night, he told me "this is the healthy way", "you'll be able to actually keep it off now" (we both tend to binge and then starve ourselves to get back down to our "real" weights.) I'm just bummed...I like eating more but I feel almost like I'm sinning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol I got so ingrained with that "if you're comfortable in your diet then you aren't dieting hard enough" mentality. So for those of you who have upped cals, how long did it take your body to adjust and start losing? I know I'm being totally impatient here but results are the best motivation for me and those aren't happenin'!

03-31-2005, 01:07 PM
Hey girl, we keep missing each other. I think you did awesome for getting up to 1700 cal...you know my story.
I'm sure it's just an adjustment period...I'm sluggish and tired and I feel heavy today. I honestly feel like i've eaten too much, but i think once the body realizes it has what i needs to burn...it will........how long it takes I dunno??
sooo glad your husband reminded you that this is the healthier way and it's more of lifestyle then a diet. diet=uncomfortable starving is what we are used to. LOL
we are both trying to add right now so keep it up, im right behind you

03-31-2005, 01:21 PM
Hey hey hey!!!! Where did this getting down on yourself come from?!?! I'm not gonna accept that missy!! ;)
haha, arose (and becca), I know what you're feeling. I've been there. TRUST ME. You are DOING THE RIGHT THING. You know why its taking awhile to see changes? Because you are creating LASTING, PERMANENT RESULTS. This isn't just a quick fix, its FOR LIFE!!! You are creating a gorgeous, strong healthy body that will be with you from now ON!!! Isn't that exciting?!! Isn't that SO MUCH BETTER than starving for weeks, having one or two days of baggy pants and then gaining it all back and then some??
I know somedays it feels like all your hard work is going nowhere. But your muscles know you're working. Your organs, your metabolism and your heart know you're working. They're waking up, getting stronger, running faster and pretty soon you are going to wake up and not recognize yourself!!!
I'm saying this out of TRUE experience. I've been a yo-yo dieter for 4 years of my life. My "quick fix" was always to drop to 1500 calories and do 1+ of cardio a day. I was always hungry, always tired and eventually, my littel fix stopped working. I was the fattest 130lb girl you've ever seen! (by that I mean, I "looked" thin, but I was nothing but weak yucky fat).
So I completely changed the way I did EVERYTHING. I began eating 2000 calories a day (HOLY CRAP) I stopped being a quasi-vegan/carb-phobe and started eating meat and oatmeal and brown rice and even BREAD. I stopped running 5 miles a day and started lifting HEAVY five days a week.
And at first I was second guessing myself. Go back to my journal and you'll see. In the first few pages, I freak out a few times about feeling fat, not making progress...being unsure of myself. And it felt SO weird to be eating so much, to be FULL, to not be sweating my butt off on the treadmill every day. And for a week or two around my period, I feel like I'm fat and its hopeless. But its not!!!! I look better NOW at 137lbs then I did when I was 127. Its working!! Nothing jiggles anymore!! I can grab a 40lb barbell with one hand and lug it around!!
Its taking a long time...I could have lost 10lbs and gained them back by now!! But we are ALL doing the best healthiest thing for our bodies!!! Be proud that you're not getting sucked into the hype over diet pills, starvation and cardio-rexia. I'm SO proud of you for sticking with it this far, don't give up now!!!!!!!!!
Whew! I KNEW there was a good rant in me today ;)

I thought bridesmaids dresses were SUPPOSED to be unflattering? ;-) (j/k) Hon, you have until July -- that's a good long while, you keep up the good work and you are going to feel FABULOUS in that dress. What color is it? As long as the color works with your skin tone and you have a great pair of heels and the confidence that comes from busting your butt in the gym for two months, you're going to be the (almost) belle of the ball. Except for the bride, of course. :-p

Well, we won our game last night, they actually called it because we were ahead by more than 24 points! It was fun but I played like sh*t! no more shooting for me for a while:) Our next game is monday and we're playing the best team in the league (former players of the school I'm at now) but I have class so I can't play! I'm really okay with that though-they are really good and a tad intimidating!!
Cals were up to about 1500 yesterday and I keep falling in a 40/30/30 ratio so I'm going to stick with that. I didn't workout this morning but I'm going tonight with the hubster and then home to clean our messy apartment! (its hard to keep it clean when I feel like we live in a 6'x6' space!) Hope you ladies have a marvelous weekend!!!!!
Rootin for Michigan State in the tourny...I have to work saturday but we have TVs there and as long as my managers dont see then I'll be catching glances!!

Don't stop shooting!!!
just had to say that real quick. So you had an off night...we all do but at least you were doing hella running up and down the court I'm sure.
I have to tell you this story, I think you can appreciate it since it's about basketball.
Last night was my son's last game. He's 8. the kids played great and just finally came together as a team. We've been working on passing the ball and making more opportunities for an open shot. Anways........this other team...ughguhgh they were so sloppy it was a terrible game. Not a nice way to end the season and THE REF'S MY GOODNESS........it's one thing to let high school play it out a little but these little kids were fouling left and right. I was an official, my sister and father are still basketball officials. I REFUSE TO YELL AT REF'S
and let me tell you girl...i was getting into it last night I was ready to call the league board. LOL my baby was getting slapped around
so anyways......half time comes and i take him to the side and showed him how to stick out his elbows when he is pivoting...or when he rebounds to get the kids off of him a little............
he looked like i just pooped in his cereal. He said......"mommy I can't do that, someone might get hurt"
I was like, they are all over you, you are getting hurt (he lost a tooth in the game) I said, it's allowed and if they get an elbow in the face I bet they won't climb all over your next time.........then he got that mischievious little smile i love so much. OK MOMMY......
he got 8 points in the 2nd half alone which is the most he has ever scored in a game... it was awesome.

Sorry to hear about the sucky bridesmaid dress style - It's so hard to choose a style that everyone likes, that's why it's almost best nowaways to choose the colour and let them choose their own styles (within reason). BUT too late for that now, so back to making the best of it!
I agree w/ Terracotta - ask one of the competing gals about how to cut for the wedding, while keeping up your weight program. This will likely mean more cardio, stricter diet (big time), but still eating lots of protein. Ask Dawn (sillyvent), but not until next week - Her competition is this weekend!
As for the kneeling cable crunches - you've really got to lock those legs and concentrate on pulling with your abs. You should almost feel like you're sticking you butt out, and overexaggerating the movement at the top (stomach in and chest up), then tense the abs and pull your pull your ribs down towards your hips. Hope that helps!

Okay, so I'm actually making an effort to post some wedding pics and it won't upload them! It says the server is down and "page cannot be displayed". I'll try again later.
Well, the weekend went very well!!! Friday's workout:
Chest/tris
Dumbell bench 3x10
incline barbell bench 3x6
flys 3x10
dips 3x7
pulldowns 3x10
one more tri exercise but I forgot!
Saturday:
Walk around for 10 1/2 hours!!!!
Sunday:
Legs/shoulders
squats 3x10
deadlifts..only one set, I am a deadlift virgin :)
walking lunges 3x8
step ups 2x10
hammy curls 3x8
calves 2x12
military press 3x10
medial raises 3x10
front/lat raises 3x10
No bad food from work Saturday again!!! Temptation there is everywhere! I didnt realize it when I actually indulged every once in a while how much bad crap there is to eat there!!!!!! Didn't do to well nutrition wise yesterday or today. It's tough to eat right in the middle of dinner rush but I think I had about 1300 good cals yesterday. Today, I'm at about 900 so far but I have to eat dinner yet.
My measurements are down too!!! This may be because last time I measured (two weeks ago) I was bloated and about to get my period and this time I did it right when I woke up so there may be a deviation but whatever, the tape measure is moving in the right direction! I am now a 38" bust, 30" waist, and 43" hips. That is from 39", 31 1/2", and 44". My wedding measurements were 37 1/2" bust, 29 1/2"waist, and 42" hips so I am happy happy happy!!! I think that bridesmaid dress is going to look killer by July...I'll be tan too and that always makes me look better!

Okay okay, here's today's wo:

chin ups 1x8 1x5 1x4
bent rows 3x10
hyperextensions with weight 3x10

Pictures and modeling and progress, oh my!
Your pictures are BEAUTIFUL...you and I are practically the same measurements too, that's hilarious. If you were a redhead I'd say you were my twin. :-)
I AM SO JEALOUS, you get to wear pretty dresses and sashay around in a big modeling show! I think my girl hormones are extra jealous because for the foreseeable future I get to wear what amounts to a camoflage colored sack-cloth. ;-) HARDLY attractive. But, you of course realize that we will need to see pictures. Multiple pictures. Man, I want to get married...if only for the pretty dresses and the shopping and the wedding cake. One of my friends needs to get on the ball and get married here shortly so I can be a bridesmaid...*lol*
Progress! I TOLD you that you were going to look 7 different kinds of fantastic at that wedding! You never did post what color the dress was...what kind of theme is the bride going for? At my cousin's wedding last May, she had lipstick red bridesmaid dresses. This wouldn't have been bad except for she had the wedding at the University of Georgia campus in the daytime, and the dresses were SHORT. They looked like cheerleaders. Our gag gift to her was a football helmet. ;-)
hope you're having a wonderful day!

Hello hello, thanks again for the comments guys **blushing**:) The bridesmaid dress is purple/blue/silver mix...hopefully you all have great imaginations!!! I don't know what the theme is-it is in Minnesota and I'm in Florida now so I'm not really a part of it but after my own wedding fiascos, I am totally okay with that!!!
Sunny, that is hilarious about the short red dresses!!!!!! I almost started laughing out loud at work!!
So yesterday I ran with a couple girls and we ran that big bridge, it's a little over a mile and we ran back and forth once...okay, so I walked a bit, I was dying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know about this 5k thing, I want to do it but it's in 2 1/2 weeks so I don't know if I'll be in good enough shape....wth??? I think I will do it but just train really hard for a couple weeks! It's exciting to have short term goals rather than "get in shape", "lose bf", etc.
I did HIIT this morning!!! Accomplishment for me, I had to force myself to walk past the ellipticals to the treadmill but I did HIIT for 15 minutes and then walked on a big incline for 5. Not the longest workout but I was pooped when I was done!!!
I have been doing pretty bad on nutrition these past couple days, 1400 a couple days ago and maybe 1300 yesterday. When I do cardio at night it really suppresses my appetite and I don't feel like eating anything else. I'm working on it though! I hope to hit 1600-1700 cals today, I'll let you know!

Arose......I'm all verclempt!!!!!! You look STUNNING!!!!!
I know I'm the 1,000th person to say that but its needs to be repeated!!!!
I hope hope hope my pictures turn out half as beautiful as yours!! :D
and I'm so proud of you for sticking with the 5k. Keep at it, running is awesome because when you're starting out, your body adapts very quickly and you'll find you can run harder or longer each time :)
And having goals IS so great! I'm still working on making mine more specific. Right now its "Get hot for my wedding ;)" hehe.
(maybe now it should be get as hot as Arose, mommykuce, and Julie looked in their weddings)

Tai-I saw your pics too and you are one hot chick! You are going to look stunning at your wedding!
Okay, I know I said it, but really, to everyone who replied to the pics, I was super nervous about posting them and I am at a loss for words with how sweet you all are....thanks again:)

WHA HA HA!!!! ;) I lost another pound this week!!! My pants fit better and my belt moved one notch down!!!! So "officially" I'm 176.4. Didn't get a workout in today but I'm helping a friend move tonight so that should be a workout in itself!
I wanted to crank some music this morning and dance around the apartment because I felt so good but the hubster was sleepin...ohhhh, so cute!
I am mega stressed for this weekend though...tonight I help move all night(its going to be a big project!), tomorrow I am going to wake up early and get a run in over that damn hill, then go home and quickly type up my Economics homework, then get ready for work by 12 and work from 12PM-11PM. Then on Sunday I have to finish my Economics homework(its my worst subject), get the rest of the problems from a friend, meet for a presentation I have this week for my other class, and then do an extra long workout (chest/tris/shoulders/legs) because I missed today's. Whew, weekends just suck for me...its always about catching up :( I think I'm going to take a couple days off work here soon, I just can't keep up.
On top of that, I went to the eye doctor this week because I had been losing my vision in my right eye and found out that I have migraines! YUCK! The headaches don't bother me so much as the vision loss, it's very distracting! Oy, sorry for the rant!
Other than that though, I really am having a pretty good day! Hope everyone else is too!! :)

Oh man, migraines are the worst....sorry to hear that you have to deal with them...they knock me out when I get them! Congrats on your weight loss too!!! That is wonderful!!! I'm excited for you....
It does sound like you're going to have one heck of a weekend...try to find at least a few minutes for yourself!!! You're gonna need it, sounds like!!!
Happy Friday, girl!!

Have a good weekend, girlie-pie...I'm really sorry to hear about the migraines. :-(
But WHOO HOO for weight loss and smaller belts and dancing around the kitchen...or at least wanting to. :-) I have a happy dance everytime my waist measurement goes down a centimeter.
I'm not weighing myself after this week's disaster though...skipping the weigh in until next monday when I have a week to be "good" again.
Have a great weekend, y'hear? And get some rest!
Sunny
PS: You sure you want to double up on workouts? I think the best strategy is just to chalk up the missed one to life intruding and keep on with the rest of your schedule. One missed workout isn't going to atrophy that muscle group, and overdoing it is the quickest way to injury. Be careful, okay?

Awesome to see results, isn't it?! :D Ahh.. the hard work DOES pay off!
I used to get migranes from using the computer too much (at first). It was also partially the concentrated little lights they had in the dark room - ouch. Then I would have a migrane hang-over the next day - SO painful! I'm glad you figured out the source.
Have a great weekend, hon!

Hi arose,
I am just catching up on some journaling... Since you just got married, and I am getting married in July, I thought I could maybe get some ideas from you if you can help.
I noticed you said you got married outdoors... my wedding is going to be outdoors too. Here are the questions:
Did you go barefoot or what type of shoes did you wear?
I noticed you have train on your dress... did it get real dirty from being outside... I am thinking of having the train on my dress altered and removed. Just one of those anal things about me, I don't want it to drag on the grass and get real dirty. (I'm weird, I know).
Did you do your own centerpeices on your table? I am going to do mine, and am looking for ideas.
Did you have a tent, or was in all outside?
I love your veil and headpiece... did you make it? I just want something real simple.
By the way... you were a beautiful bride!!!
Any advice for an up and coming bride would be great...
Thanks

Whew, the weekend is FINALLY OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a whirlwind to say the least...we moved my friend until about midnight on Friday night. I was too tired to run Saturday morning so I just spent it in bed with the hubster. Then I went to work from noon to midnight. I didn't eat any bad food AGAIN! All the servers were sharing a big piece of chocolate cake and ice cream and I didn't have a bite! BUT, I ate about 12 shrimp, a baked potato, salad, and veggies...and that was it all day. :( Bad, I know.
I ran yesterday morning and made it over the hill and back (about 2 miles) without stopping so I was happy! And I wore this cute new racerback tank that my hubby bought for my birthday and I felt like a real runner!!!! haha! I worked on homework all day and then went to my meeting for a group project where one of the people was 45 minutes late! Ugh, I HATE it when people are late!
Went home last night and I was tempted to go out to eat, just for a cheat because I haven't in a while. I thought about what I wanted and I wanted Mexican....so, I went to the store, bought some ground turkey, low fat cheese and whole wheat tortillas and made em myself! It was the best meal ever! So simple but mmmmmmmmmm......sooooo good! I figured I could use the extra cals after Saturday. I also got some low fat yogurt and strawberries and made a killer smoothie, although I will use some splenda next time ;)
This morning: Chest/tris
Inline bench 3x10
Bench 3x8
flys 3x8
assisted dips 1x8 1x5 1x4 (more than last week!!!!)
pulldowns 3x10
skullcrushers 3x14 (will increase weight next week)
kickbacks 3x10
And I went grocery shopping so I have sooo much food today! I love it!

Hey girl........sounds like you were able to make it a somewhat productive weekend even though you were sooo busy. Good job! I'm really impressed that you made your own mexican food too. Just once I get the craving I can't seem to choose a different alternative and 2 miles......AWESOME. especially on a hill. LOL I have a love/hate relationship with hills. But running is awesome you'll really see a difference. I like it so much since I can see the progression with it.
have a good day!!

great workout, great diet, great everything!
I'm so glad you had a good weekend. Sounds really productive...what's the group project in? Man I miss college. I also miss spending entire mornings in bed with my boy. Not that I have a boy right now, you understand, or could do anything with him if I did...but still. A good-smelling boy would be nice, I think. Memo to me. ;-)
Whoo for running without stopping in a cute tank, feeling like a real runner. :-) I remember my first pair of running shorts made me feel like a hero. I used to love to row in racerbacks, because it showed off my back. Try lifting in that tank, you'll feel like such a rockstar, promise.
Do you like TV? I've been watching a ton of it recently -- lots of CSI & Firefly, one of my buddies got me hooked.
anyway, have a great one!

Today I feel like I am bouncing off the walls...I went to bed at 10PM last night and got a full 8 hours!
So my chest and tris didn't feel sore today after my workout yesterday morning...shouldn't I be sore?? I am a little in the upper chest but my tris don't feel like I did anything to em. So I was going to do cardio this morning but since I wasn't sore I did back and bis.
Assisted Pull ups 1x8 1x5 1x5
lat pull downs 2x10
seated rows 3x8
bent rows 3x10 (increased weight, wha ha ha!!!)
SLDL 3x10 (will increase weight in 10 lb increments weekly until I go to failure in the last set...want to take it slow with these bad boys)
bi curl 3x10
hammer curl 3x10
Tomorrow will be practicing for the 5k again, um, not too excited for that :)
I ate at least 1800 clean cals yesterday, and, unlike usual, I kept my PB down to about 3 tablespoons...okay, I won't lie, it was like 4 :( BUT, funny enough, that was better than most days!!! LOL!!! And then I ate and ate and ate some more all day and night. It was great! Hope you ladies are doing well!
Have a wonderful day!

Hey girl......ok so I have been "guesstimating" on my pb this whole time. Thought man i wonder how much I am really getting. I ususally just you know, get a knife and spread. I switched to the natural peanut butter (it could be the brand) but it's sooo runny so i seriously got in the bad habit of just dipping stuff in the jar.
So I have seen your peanut butter addict comments in a few journals and figured...hmm how much am I really getting OMG It's scary. At least 6 tbsp at a sitting. Which is really only once a day. but completely brings something into perspective....mindless munching........I mean i surround myself with good stuff...but man I'm addicted to the PB
i dip apples in it, dip rice cakes in it....really i love it so much i only eat something so i can dip it in there. I dipped my dole popsicle in there the other day. (that wasn't too good) but was sick enough in the head to think. "If i had dipped a strawberry popsicle then i bet it would taste like pb and jelly"
my name is rebecca....and I am a peanut butterholic....
but hey on a positive note.......means my calories were more then i thought they were...heheh

So my chest and tris didn't feel sore today after my workout yesterday morning...shouldn't I be sore?? I am a little in the upper chest but my tris don't feel like I did anything to em.
I have a hard time targetting chest properly, so I always aim to feel soreness the next day on that one. (So good work!). I work my tris hard, and they are definitely fatigued after my workout, but rarely are sore the following day.

Thanks to both of you...I will use this crappy day to fuel my workout tonight-it's a doosie! It'll be practice for my 5k, I may try to do 4 miles with that damn hill...it's about one mile up and down so we'll see how I do!
Yesterday I ate really bad.......and I'm feeling it today......I went overboard on a box of cheerios, I just felt like eating a lot and I did, not so good. I just kept sticking my hand in mindlessly. I feel pretty crappy about myself today. Although I did put today's nutrition into Fitday and couldn't believe how good the ratios looked...50P/30C/20F....that is the best its been in a while.
Sometimes life just gets ya down, seems to be doing that a lot more lately than usual...I need to remember how blessed I am and, what my mom used to say, "you have two legs, two arms, two eyes and a brain....that's all you need". Moms are the greatest, wish mine was closer :(
Off for the run, have a great night ladies, and give your moms a hug for me!! :)

Hey girl,
Don't be down, aiight? please? I had a crappy eating day yesterday too -- must be something in the air. :-) I know the feeling about just saying, "f*<# it" and eating when you know you're better off just stepping AWAY from the cereal...but one day is not going to throw you off.
I hope your run went well! 4 miles up and down a hill? Ooof, that makes ME hurt just thinking about it. I have a love-hate relationship with hills. SOOO good for your butt, sooooo evil. There's this one hill by the river I row on at home called "Suicide". It laughs at you. If it were a person, it would be Ghengis Khan. Evil little hill.
Moms are wonderful. Wish mine was closer, too.
How's the PB addiction? This no sweets things is going really well. I have replaced sugar with coffee. :-p

Hi Hi Hi! Well today I am on top of the world! I don't know why but I feel great...I did notice that yesterday when I did not feel great I didn't have my morning workout....hmmmm... something to think about!
I ran last night, not 4 miles but it was a ways. I ran with this chick who was a track star in highschool so I pretty much got my a$$ kicked but it was fun.
Then, came nightfall, and bad things can happen when its dark out...my hubby comes home and says "lets get chinese!" At first I objected but we haven't been spending much time together lately so I said okay. We went and spent like 2 hours there just catching up with each other and having a great time. I didn't overeat but I definitely ate bad things for me. But, it was mentally healthy for us and I don't even feel bad today! It kinda gave me motivation to work out more and eat better and just keep going with my week....funny how such little things can make such an improvement on your attitude.
SO, this morning I did HIIT for 28 minutes with 5 min warm up and 5 min cool down. I varied between running/sprinting for 30sec/30sec and 1min/30 seconds. Trying to get it up to 30/30 for the duration :)
Thanks for your support Pachika, it made me smile this morning :) And that's funny that you think the 4 miles would be bad, you could run forever! I just saw your journal and it was like 5 miles in 40 minutes?????!!!!!! You are a running machine, it never fails to impress me!!! :)

I'm so glad you are in a better mood rose!!!!!!! I have been having the week from hell myself..just when I think work can't get more hectic, it manages to find a way....then throw taxes into the mix and I'm a basket case.
My boss DID call my on Tuesday and told me I got a raise, so that kind of kept me from quitting ;) guess she could read my mind!
Don't beat yourself up at all about the chinese. In the end, there are faaar more important things then your weight or diet....the quality time you spent with your hubby are worth way way more :) Remember food isn't an enemy, its an integral part of our lives and sharing it with people we care about is like, the best thing in the world!!!!
Well, didn't mean to get all hallmark on you, hehe! Hope you have another SUPER day!!

Good mornin, almost afternoon, on this wonderful Friday! I am actually starting to look forward to weekends now that I only have to go to my other job on Saturdays (i used to go to my regular 8AM-5PM job and then to another job from 5:30PM-11PM on Fridays---not anymore!!).
This morning I worked shoulders and abs.
military press 3x12
medial raises 3x8
lat raises 2x8 1x6
abs here and there and this way and that way, etc. :)
Tonight is leg night!!! So excited, get to pound em! I am going out to lunch to the restuarant I work at actually with my coworkers from my other job today so I am pretty excited for that. I may through in a baked potato for my carbs for legs tonight. They have some pretty healthy stuff so I'll do fine, as long as I can stay away from the bread. It gets easier to push that stuff away after it stares you in the eye for a year and a half!
I'm thinking about changing my routine to a 5 day split instead of 3. I really enjoy getting up early and its easier when I can go lift, rather than go do carido ;) That'll change though when summer hits...I work at a University and the gym opens at 6AM in the school year but at 11AM during the summer :( A couple days a week I have class until 8:30 PM this summer and then it closes at 9PM so I guess my lunch hours will be busy!! Maybe I'll go run on the beach in the mornings, although that is scary when you're by yourself in the dark next to the ocean ;).
Have yourselves a wonderful day and weekend!

Arose, I get so excited for legs...I was counting down the minutes until my afternoon commander's meeting was over so I could go try out my new leg routine and really bust my butt on squats. There is something SO satisfying about tearing up your lower body -- I hope the workout went well for you!
Running on the beach is a great workout -- but I can imagine doing it in the dark, next to a roaring ocean could be a little freaky. I'd probably give myself a heart attack imagining the creature from the black lagoon was coming out of the water to eat me. Might make you run faster though. ;)
I miss bread...do yall have Panera where you are? Panera is my ULTIMATE cheat -- french onion soup in a sourdough bread bowl...oh man. :)
Glad you had such a great day, hon, keep up the great work.

It's so crazy, I'm actually going out to eat for lunch today (race tomorrow) and was going to Panera.......the strawberry poppyseed salad is back in season......and I'm the biggest fan. I'll definitely think of you while I'm there and enjoy my turkey sandwich on tomato basil bread. I have no idea if it's even good for you........but sooo good.

Ohhhh!!! Hello everyone :)
SV-I have been reading your entries and I just laugh and then sigh because I feel your pain...although I am pretty sure your job's a lot more stressful than mine:)
Pachika-That is me---imagining big scary things following me on my run ready for me to stop or get tired! I would totally psych myself out!
Becca-No worries!! We have panera here but its far away (okay, like 20 minutes but I hate going that far for food:)) I am a big Brueggar's Bagel gal myself, they are in the midwest sometimes attached to a place called Caribou Coffee that I am in love with. That is the first place I go when I go home to Minnesota!
I would love to adopt you all, that'd be great, a few gals with similar goals working out and motivating each other...hmmmm...okay, where do I sign? Florida really isn't all its cracked up to be, I mean the ocean's great but usually really cold until about June. Then hurricane season starts, I actually live about 20 miles north of the place where both Frances and Jeanne made landfall....IT SUCKED! They say it'll be like that again this year and I am dreading the Fall! I would love to go back home to Minnesota but the hubster is a pansy and can't take cold weather!!! hahahaha lol!!! J/K honey, if you ever read this :)
And I don't really hate my job, I just am kinda stuck in it for the next couple years and, you know the grass is always greener! But I really like the people I work with so I don't think I'd leave even if I could!!! Thanks for the replies and have a great weekend!

I'm glad I just came BACK from lunch, because you girls would have had me drooling, talking about French Onion soup and cheats! You know... I haven't really been allowing myself cheat meals. I am an all or nothing kinda gal, and I'm afraid that if I cheat, then I will cheat a little more... a little more... and then suddenly one day my diet will be screwed! It sounds extreme, but I'm actually not missing bread or sweets at all. I'm even going to make my husband an apple pie tomorrow for dessert to test myself even further - The thought of it now even doesn't make me want to eat it. lol! Do you know what I would RATHER have? Protein pancakes! I'm addicted!!! The cin and splenda is so yummy. I can't make them the day before, because I have a hard time not gobbling them up on the spot!
Sorry to hear about the hatred of jobs. It's important to try to find something that you DO like, because think about how much TIME you spend there daily! If you aren't happy, keep your eyes open for another position elsewhere.
Sigh - Back to work!

Responding to your post in my journal - It takes awhile for most people to find a job they love - Don't feel that you're running out of time by ANY means! You're a youngen' still! :D
I do graphic/web design, and I love it. I sometimes wish I had a more active job, as I do a lot of sitting in front of my computer, but then again, some days I would HATE to have an active job (vegging in front of the screen and chatting on bb.com isn't so bad! ;) ). V-yes, cheerios are better than chocolate, I will keep telling myself that :P
Powells, thanks for stopping by, I do have to be more thankful for where I am...even though its not where I want to be :)
Well, this weekend was interesting....
Friday's leg workout was weak :( I just couldn't pull it together and get up the energy so I got all my stuff done but it felt half-assed. I ate well though!:)
Saturday at work was another story, cookies, chocolate, bread, sub sandwiches, oh my! And I had some of each...not a binge by any means but a couple oreos, a couple pieces of bread, no chocolate actually, but a sub sandwich which wasn't bad for me, just a lot. Then I was feeling pretty crappy about that job so the hubster and I went to Applebees and shared an appetizer and I had a drink!!! YUM...their mudslides are to DIE FOR! So I didn't feel bad about it because it was sooooo delicious :P
Took sunday off for my rest day and made tacos last night...the all white 97% lean ground turkey was $2 more than the other ground turkey!!! My husband gave me a dirty look but I just threw it in the cart because I am paying for the groceries every week! Felt better about eating that but having a fat day today afterall :(
This morning's workout...
back/bis pretty weak with the back but killed the bis
chin ups 1x8 2x4
lat pull downs 3x11
rows 2x10, increased weight, 1x10
cable curls 3x10
incline curls 1x8 1x7 1x6 yikes...a little too heavy, have to go back down for now
hammer curls 3x10
I think for the next two-three weeks I am going to concentrate on a bit of clean bulking......maybe just to save myself from cutting during finals :)!!!!! Am I running from my problems???!!!
Then, after the first week in May I will cut until July 9 (my friends wedding and the unveiling of that damn dress). I think the next weekend is a bridal show I am modeling for and then my photographer called me yesterday and told me about another bridal show he wants me to do the weekend after that in July in Daytona Beach so I will need to be in shape!!!
Anywho, I am taking some time off of both jobs in the next two weeks for finals and I will be studying at various coffee shops and restuarants around town and don't really want to kill myself looking at a nice big sandwich and not being able to have it. I am still going to shoot for about 1800-2000 cals/day...funny how much easier that has gotten, now I am starting to watch myself to make sure that I don't go over that!!! haha, how times have changed :)
Oh, my husband made the cutest remark yesterday-I put on my "tight jeans" to go grocery shopping and they felt REALLY tight(just been through the wash), and I told him I didn't know if I should wear them...he said, "that is the best your butt has looked ever!" I almost jumped him right there haha! So the tight jeans stayed on for grocery shopping! Have a great day!

Whoo hoo for hubbies making cute comments about butts. :)
Glad you had a good weekend, that's fantastic about another bridal show! You're developing quite a portfolio. Maybe one day I'll see you in Modern Bride or something.
Good call on the clean bulking during finals -- studying + calorie restriction = too much stress to think about.
have a great one!

He's a keeper! - Knows just what to say at the perfect time! :) What a sweetheart. It always makes me feel so great when my husband compliments me. ...I always wonder how I look in his eyes, and tell him that love is skewing his vision. :) But I take his word on the butt - he checks it out way more often than me, so he's the expert! lol!

another show...that's awesome girl...such a compliment. Not as good as your husband's since he's the only one to look good for anyway (other than yourself)
anyhoo...just saying hi and especially good job on your cals and sticking to the bulking. I'm so glad to see that you are consistent with your meals now....cause that means there is hope for me yet. I agree i think it would be much better for you to just eat clean and solid while studying for the finals.....that can be so mentally exhausting it's like you did a marathon anyways.
have a good one!!

Hey Everyone...hmmm, not quite sure about that future bridal model thing, I'm not skinny enough....or "plus size" for that matter so I think I'd have trouble being an "average-large" gal haha! That's fine with me though-I can live with being "average-large!"
Anyhoo, overslept this morning :( and therefore the workout was moved to tonight, without the hubby :( Oh well, maybe I won't be so distracted watching him! lol! Chest and tris tonight.
And the 5k isn't looking too good. My other job put me on the schedule to serve and close the restaurant this Friday which means I won't get home until about 12:30 AM...and then the run is Sat morning at 8AM and then I have to be back at work by 12PM sat. I'll see how I do Friday night, usually I am really ticked off at something at work so I don't know if I'll be in the mood to kill myself sat morning (and yes, for you insane runners like Sunny, Becca, and the others who know who you are, 5k IS killing myself :))
Bought some yummy strawberries today, they are soooo good...so much better than the past few weeks! I walked to the Walmart for lunch (about 35 minutes) to buy em but I don't know if I'll do that again...a couple creepy people on the way is kinda deterring!
PB was BAAADDD yesterday, really bad! But I am going to take it out of my diet for the summer when I start "cutting". It'll be tough to replace but I know I need to add a ton of veggies anyway. Its sad when a lot of your cals come from PB :( It'll be another battle to keep up the cals without the PB. Good for me though, kinda looking forward to it. Haven't picked an exact date but sometime after finals (May 6). I got really excited today when I read Sunny's journal about the inches lost and her eating around 2000 cals/day! It's motivating me to eat clean and often and work your ass off!
Have a great day ladies, I'll check in more regularly this week, been busy!!

Yesterday's WO:
Chest/tris
Bench 3x10
flys 3x8
incline 2x10 1x8
rope pulldowns 3x10
skullcrushers 3x10
assisted dips 2x4 1x3
I did dips last...oops! Couldn't hardly crank any out! Learned from that one! I find that my tris are already really tired after chest, would it be bad to do bench then dips then the rest of my chest workout and then the rest of the tri workout?
This morning overslept AGAIN! But only by 15 minutes so I went to the gym for a quickie;) Did 20 min HIIT believe it or not! Muhahahaha :) Do you guys have any suggestions for HIIT intervals? I have been experimenting with 30sec sprint /30sec jog, 30sec sprint/1min jog, and today was 20 sec sprint/40 sec jog. I know, I know, another HIIT question...thanks :)
I really feel it in my chest and tris a lot more this week than last. So I guess I know that I didn't work em hard enough last week. I think I'm going to split up shoulders and legs this week and take out a cardio day because of work on Friday night...I usually go right after my first job at night but I can't now because of the second job. I think I'll go for legs tomorrow and shoulders on Friday.
Have a great day everyone!

Thanks for the comment shortsteph....I guess it is really hard for me to do 2 jobs and school....I get REALLY run down and cranky sometimes. Oh well, just another year and a half and then hopefully I'll get a great job and be able to just hang out with my hubby at night and on the weekends and not have to run off to another job or school :)
Its funny, when my husband and I do hang out at night its this huge deal and we always end up talking about how great its going to be when we are done with school and craziness and can actually have fun together every night!

Have yall every tried Jicama? Tastes a little like a cross between a potato and an apple. Really good cut up into slices & marinated in vinegar and garlic and lemon juice...mmm...
Just in the same vein of expensive but good produce...
Arose -- what do you want to do with your life, when you're out of school? I'm so impressed that you're able to maintain such a great workout schedule around school and jobs and your marriage. :)
Don't worry about the 5k...road races come and go, you have to take care of yourself first. And you think -I- am a crazy runner? Sign up for a race that takes place at the same time as a marathon, THEN you'll see some crazy runners. I'm an amateur nutball, those people are PROS. :D

Hmmm, Sunny, that is a fantastic question!!! If you know the answer, PLEASE TELL ME! :) Well, I don't know what I want to do with my life...it's something I've really been struggling with these past few years. I LOVE talking to people (and therefore can live with my job as a server---its my "social scene"--sad but true!) so maybe something in sales or the financial arena?? I really have no clue...I'm hoping the MBA I'm doing now will help guide me but so far I really hate business-I am not a numbers gal, more of a memorizer/note taker/class participator...no math here (unlike smarty Terracotta ;0-which I guess would make finance a toughie). Various people have suggested being a pharmaceutical sales rep, which i would love to do, I think, so that's something I'm going to explore when I get out of here, that and I recently heard about Clear Channel Outdoor which is a huge national advertising company with subsidiaries in radio/TV. I think it'd be cool to do sales for them. If I don't have to worry about money in the future my dream would be to coach a high school girls basketball team!!!
My husband is getting into day trading currently and wants me to do it with him! Not too sure about that-don't know enough about the market to be able to day trade. Also don't want it turning into a competitive thing between us!
Well, that was a long reply with no clear answer!! Ah well, my path will come, just gotta be patient and keep looking.
Jicama?? A cross between an apple and potato??? um, gross??!! J/K, I'll have to look for it next time i go shopping...so is it a veggie or a fruit?? hahaha!!
You are still a crazy runner in my eyes, but you are right, those marathoners are insane!

I wouldn't worry too much about what you are going to do in life- just let it happen. Everything will work out, you just have to let it!
What school do you go to?

Ha! thanks gals!
Megin-I go to Florida Tech, are you in school now?? Thanks for the encouragement :)
Pachika-that is so funny that you say your mind changes 16 times a day-me too!! I had about 4 majors in undergrad!!! lol! And I think you said you wanted to do something in exercise science? That was a major of mine for a while-it was great, but I wasn't all into the kinesiology stuff at the time-but I bet you'd LOVE it! And, I think you said maybe an MD is something you'd want to do?? I was also a pre-med major for a year!!! LOL!! Just ask about something health-related, and I probably was that major! Still got out in 4 years though by the grace of God!
This morning was legs, first leg wo in the AM! :)
Front Squats 3x8
walking lunges 1x12 2x8
SLDL 3x8
plie squats 3x8
calf raises 3x12
Attempted 1 flag...failed miserably....I don't even see how these are possible without bending at the hip! LOL! I am amazed by those of you who do these!!!
So I am totally excited because of the SLDL's! I have been taking it slow because I didn't want to hurt myself ;) and today I got to a weight that I really felt my hammy's working and I had great form! These have become my new favorites! I am still a weakling though---I was telling my husband about all you gals and how you squat in the upper 100s and in the 200s and he was sooooooo impressed!!! Then he looked at my weight and told me I had some work to do!! haha! :)
Hey, do you guys ever get those marks on your shoulders from the bar??? It looks like I have a bunch of tiny broken blood vessels?

04-21-2005, 08:54 AM
Uhm, yes, that is why I do flag NEGATIVES...burns my abs like none other...I'm not nearly as hardcore as our Emma.
Yeah right NOW the plan is to take a year when I get out of the army to get a job in a hospital (my dad works as a pharmacist in Fairfax Hospital, he can get me a job there I think) or similar health locale, take Orgo and Cell Bio at G-town or George Mason Univ, and apply to medical school. I took orgo when I was at Duke (I was premed there for awhile as well) but I BOMBED it (okay a C) because halfway through the year I dropped pre-med because I decided I was going to be a forensic anthropologist and get my PhD instead, and Orgo wasn't a requirement.
Now I want to combine my love of working out with sports and maybe work for a college one day (maybe Duke!) as a sports medicine doctor. I'm not entirely sure what I'd need for that, but medical school is in my future...I hope! I hear that military experience looks really good to grad schools because it shows an ability to work hard and commit to a few years of Primo Suckitude, so I guess that's my ace in the hole. Now I just need to make friends with the son of the head of the admissions board, and I'm in like Flynn.
I also want to coach high school rowing. Big plans, huh? Plus I have a book of short stories I'm working on, and a non-fiction book called Your Daughter Wears Combat Books in the hopper...we'll see, huh? I guess I have a lot of different things I COULD do...my problem is just picking one!
Sorry to thread-hijack...your workout looks great! SLDLs are the bomb-diggity. For the bar issue, I'd get a pad. I used to get a terrible reaction across my chest from front squats...have you looked into the manta ray or whatever that's advertised on bb.com? Check it out...that maybe solve your problem. That or a nice thick towel over the bar while you're lifting.
havea great one!

Geesh, I am just not into working today!! I think I've posted more today than in the past week :) haha! Oh well.
Sunny-thread hijacking is NOT possible in my journal. I always love to hear about people's goals, bbing or not. Its motivating for me. That is so funny about that C because I dropped premed too because I bombed (a C too) Chem and hated it! And I work in the Graduate Admissions office at the school I go to...I can tell you that military experience DOES help. If you had poor grades (which I am sure you didn't because "bombed" to you is a C hehe) then the military experience can really help! You are right, it also shows determination and with the chemical background that would be great for future doctor schooling! Georgetown is sooooo beautiful! Are you from around DC?
Wow, two books, school plans, coaching plans!!!! That is so great to have many things you enjoy. See I'm really good at finding things I don't like :p Now I just have to find a few that I do! LOL!
Thanks for the advice about the shoulder pad idea....for now it'll have to be a big beach towel-yes, I am that broke ;) And I will try negative flags next time, although I think my lower body will just plunk down on the bench instead of going gracefully!

I'm never getting to bed! I'm addicted to this site...it's better than chocolate. Which now that I think about, I haven't had in like two weeks. Hmm. Anyone checked recently to see if they opened that skating rink in hell?
My grades in my major (Biological Anthropology and Anatomy) were fantastic (As all around) because I loved every bit of it...and I had an A average in both of my minors (Russian and History) as well...my overall GPA though was a 3.4 because I hated: physics (C, C-), orgo (B + C), and basic chem (C+, B). When you're getting a BS, your hard science reqs are weighted really heavily and that totally brought me down. :D No worries though, if orgo is all I have to worry about, I think I can ace it...I just have to keep my head down and eyes on the prize, you know? I had a lot on my plate when I took in the last time...and not nearly the motivation to do well.
Yeah, I'm from DC...I live in Woodbridge, about 10 miles south of G-Town. I miss it. Currently I live in Savannah, but I'm headed back to NoVa as soon as I'm out of the army. Family is really important to me, so I want to be near them. I miss my little brother & sister so much, it's crazy...the two little boogets (13 and 12) drove me nuts when I was home...now I can't wait to see their obnoxious little faces. :p

Yes, yes arose..inquiring minds want to know!! What IS a flag?
(All that popped into my head were the colorguard girls from my highschool...they used to do this move where they threw a flag up in the air, spun around and caught it. Which is probably very hard....but I'm pretty sure NOT what you're talking about)

Yes, there is a boytoy in DC...not an OFFICIAL boytoy, but a maybe-we'll-see boytoy. Things are still in the works regarding him...not going to get my hopes TOO high, but...I like him. For right now, that's enough. :)
A flag is a move where you lie on a bench and brace your hands on one end, extend your legs way out in front of you, and lift your entire body as one unit, pivoting at your shoulders rather than your hips. It's SO HARD. I do the negative, I do a leg lift and then a shoulder stand to get my body in the air, standing on my shoulders, then I Slllllooooooowwwly lower myself back down to the bench.
Emma can do 6. That's my goal. 6. :D

Megin-I know Rollins!!! That's awesome.
Sunny-he will be official soon enough I bet! ;)
This morning I had to pee so bad I woke up about 15 minutes early-I guess that cures my oversleeping! I should just drink a liter of water before I go to bed and I'll have no trouble getting up.
Shoulders were on the menu this morning, and one ab exercise-hehe:
military press 4x10
medial raises 4x10
side/lat raises 2x10 1x8
upright row(i think) 4x10
cable crunch 3x12---muhahahaha---I used all the weight provided on the machine with good form-----I WILL see abs when I drop this bf!! I WILL!!
All the basketball girls were in the gym this morning and they are TOUGH! So I picked up my workout a tad--hence the 4 sets.
I have to work tonight, blah, and I have been soooo sore this week! Walking around should be interesting! Last week I was fine and not so sore but this week, damn, everything I lift is killing me! Didn't really change much up on the diet either so maybe its just one of those weeks. *sigh*
As of right now there will be no 5k run tomorrow morning as earlier planned :( I am stressed as it is with school and work and I don't think it'd be good for my brain. I work with the girl I was supposed to be doing it with tonight so maybe she'll talk me into it though!! Have a great day.

I was on a stair stepper next to this 20something girl who looked great, and she was haulin........so the competitive side in me got faster and faster and faster.....my husband came in to check on me and was like WTH are you doing? and he knows me......pulled me off the stair stepper he said, "i know you were trying to keep up with her" that's my baby too you better take it easy. LOL I was like, im sorry I dont know where that came from. It was hilarious cause I was about 8 mths pregnant so on the deeper steps my thighs would touch my belly. LOL

Hello again! So I went to a barbeque for lunch for something for my hubby and I had some fruit and veggies and then I had a hamburger patty...just the patty with some mustard. It was pretty good and I think the meat was maybe 80/20...a tad high on fat but hey, its protein ;) Then I was totally craving all of the cookies and brownies they had there but I didn't take one! On my walk back to work I pass this place that makes frozen yogurt and I thought that'd be a good dessert...didn't have that either! HA! I went back to my little office and opened my container of yogurt and ate that. Only problem is now I don't have any food left for the day and I won't eat again until about 5:30 at work...a little salad is all I'll have time for! Hope I don't go overboard at work tonight on the little "extras" they have.
Oh, forgot to mention yesterday's diet...ummmm...I think it was about 2400 cals!!!!!!!! YIKES! All clean, good food but still---I felt like that was a lot! I was pretty stuffed by the end of the day! I am justifying it to myself by saying that it was leg day and I needed those cals, yet my legs are screaming at me today so I don't know how much good all those cals did! Ah well, am doing great today so far!!!

PS -- and as for the boy...eh...I dunno. It's so silly, I shouldn't worry about him while I'm out here. He's my ex, is what makes this complicated -- we dated for a year and a half in college. I like him tons, and though he makes overtures and flirts, I'm not sure he feels the same way, and I REALLY don't want to ask him. It's not even worth thinking about until I get back to the states, you know? GOOD LUCK in your game, good luck with your finals! Managerial Economics? EEEEP! That sounds terrible. *shudder* Anything with numbers I seriously dislike. I actually really like Statistics though. Aced that class with no trouble. I think it was because I usually went -- I thought it was a really interesting class. Couldn't have been because my prof was a hottie. Nah, that couldn't have been it. :D

Hi, well last night's game was AWESOME!!!!!!! Let me first say that we lost by one point but we play them again tonight for playoffs and we are gonna kick ass! We only had five players all night so I got a terrific workout in ;)
We were playing so rough, all of our players were injured with something last night---I felt like I broke my shin bone once and then thought my forearm muscle would just tear off the bone for a while but it was the best game EVER! So I went 4 for 6 from 3 point range...MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Because I'm the girl on the team they had their worst player guard me...but by the middle of the second half their BEST player was guarding me!!!!!! HA! I love that, and I still shot a three in his face! HA HA HA! okay, whew, bball just really gets me goin! I'll let you all know how tonight's game goes, hopefully my little streak will keep going!
I didn't want to do arms or legs this morning because of the game tonight so I did back and abs:
assisted Chin ups- 1x12 3x10
bent rows 3x10
um, something where I sit down with dumb bells and squeeze my back together with my arms at 90 degree angle? 3x10
hyperextensions with weight 3x12
Decline sit ups 3x12
hanging leg raises 3x6
cable crunches 2x10
I increased the assist weight on the chin ups because I felt I started too heavy. I really focused on feeling the muscles work this time instead of just lifting myself up anyway possible! I feel it in my back a lot more so I think i'll stick to this lighter weight for a while (10 was still a struggle at the end).
I took today and tomorrow off of work to study for next week's finals---Yuck! I am excited to have some time off anyway. I worked a 16 hour day on Friday with my first job and then closing the restaurant.....a party of 15 came in at 10:30 (we close at 11) and were just terrible! Um, that is not okay to bring in that many people 1/2 hour before closing just for everyone's future reference! Thanks ;) So I didn't get out of the restaurant until 12:30 and then the 5k started at 6:30 AM Saturday so I decided against that one! I was back at the restaurant though by 12:30 Saturday until 11PM. Blah. I HATE two jobs! Yesterday it was a moving day for homework, got my last assignment done for econ and today I have to write a paper for it and then go to the last class tonight! I never want to see anything economics-related AGAIN!
Sunny, I am not a numbers gal either. But I totally hate statistics too-thank goodness I'm done with that one! And you are right, while you have this "opportunity" its great to work on yourself, find yourself and find out what you want. Think about the boy, but don't let him distract you, you'll have plenty of that when you come back to the states ;)

Your back/abs workout looks awesome! I love chin-ups, am look forward to the day I can do them unassisted. :) Have a great Monday!
Remember w/ your decline sit-ups that you only need a small range of motion. I do mine fast, and think about sucking in my stomach and lifting my chest up to complete the crunch.

Thanks sthpadregrl, it felt awesome to shoot like that...like I said, hopefully this little streak will continue tonight!
Well, this morning I laid down on the couch to watch some TV on my day off...the Today Show specifically, fell asleep about 10 AM and woke up at 12:30!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it!!! So I hurried outside because it is the best day here weather wise and laid out until about 2:45. I have this funny built in SPF of like 45 where I don't really burn at all, EVER...kinda sucks because I am pale as a ghost though! So I never use sunscreen (BAD) and I was out for a while...haven't been out in the sun this year yet and I am a tad red right now! A little itchy too but by tomorrow I am going to be pale again, oh well :) I hate getting red though, feel like I am doing sooooo much damage to myself....yet, I love the way I look with a tan more than just about any other beauty thing out there.
Okay, I gotta run and go study more, this computer is killing me! I am getting out of the house so I won't be tempted! Have a great day guys!

Hi Arose! I totally agree - love the tan look. It's funny, my husband looked at me the other day and said, "Honey... I never realized you were such a WHITE girl - I mean like WHITE!" LOL... Yep - funny thing is that we've been married almost 12 years and he's just noticing that now. Ha... I told him: "Yeah - back when we were dating I didn't have 2 kids, a dog, 2 fish, a home a full-time job and husband to take care of.. - who has time to tan?!?" :p Although I do want a little color - one of my friends says brown fat *always* looks better than white fat. I hear that... :D
Anyhoo - love reading your journal! and Congrats on you bball points!

Hi, my name is Tai and I am the palest person on this board :D
when my boyfriend's mom first met me, she seriously took him aside and asked if i was "one of those albinoes"...
now you have to keep in mind that Mike's mom is a very sweet, sometimes very confused lady. I don't have red eyes or anything, but that just gives you an idea of how PALE i am ;)
unfortunately, my mom ingrained it into my head that anytime spent in the sun without sunblock = instant skin cancer. So I always go out slathered in 30spf. sometimes i want to get one of those mistic spray on tans...but I think I'd shock everyone that knew me!

Your skin will look fantastic in old age if you take care of it, though. I use Oil of Olay on my face daily (15 SPF), and always smear on the sun screen. Though I have to admit that now that I'm obsessive eating healthy, my skin has more colour that it used to! And I haven't tanned in MONTHS! I give credit to my daily spinach salads, as lately I haven't been eating as many, and my skin is losing that glow. I'm going to eat them more often again.

I'm hispanic.........so umm i tan just going to the mailbox. LOL It's weird though, living in OK, where there is actually a winter...i realized i turn yellow and look more oliveish in winter. I don't like it, so I can still relate. I love the red i get when i have some fresh sun....but by the next day I'm just dark. I have tan lines in summer too from everything. runnign shorts, soccer socks...tank tops...sports bras. drives me nuts. I'll get a watch tan and one on my shoulder from my MP3 player.......LOL what's funny is my daughter is so white she could glow in the dark........she is veiny...
anyhoo....enjoy the sun...I know I love it I feel healthier when I'm in it. I do use sunblock but only on my face......my mother stressed the whole skin cancer thing too. But she is little miss avon lady and has a miracle cream for everything, even cellulite. I'm like yeah ok whatever mom. stop trying to sell me stuff.

Yes, I am totally regretting my day in the sun right now....I will never do that again. (did you guys ever say that when you just got too drunk you'd "never drink again" only to be back at it the next weekend?...okay, maybe only my college days were full of this ;) ) Anyhoo, I really don't ever want to damage my skin again so here I come mystic tan! Did it once for my engagement pics and it looked alright, better than this burn I have now! Hmmmm, I just feel so bad, that was just so stupid of me...blah, I hate it when I get sooooo mad at myself-ahhhhhhhhh! The thing that really kills me is that my husband is disappointed...he said he just wants to protect my beauty for the future but then'll tell me how good I look with a tan. I am just so pissed off at myself right now!
Well, the past two bball games were alright, we beat the team that we had just lost to on Sunday so that was good. Played in the semi finals last night and lost to the team that'll probably win the tournament so I'm okay with that.
diet this weekend went to crap, I'm just not caring right now :( Still got up to work out this morning but couldn't run because my chest hurt so bad from the burn so I biked a HIIT. Tomorrow i'm gonna try to do legs in the AM and then I'll have to do shoulders and biceps on Friday and Chest/tris saturday unless this is a terrible split???
Being back at work sucks, first day back after a break is always hard.....at least I can have you guys for entertainment!

I have lot of freckles on my face and arms, but I don't mind them. To be honest, they help to hid flaws in my skin, and with make-up they're not that noticible... They're not from the sun, though, just from genetics. :)
arose70
04-28-2005, 07:12 AM
Whew, the sunburn is finally going away!!!!! Yay! This morning was legs :)
I replaced my step ups with one legged squats today...is that overkill to do regular squats and then one legged squats? Anyway, here it is:
Squats 3x10
deadlifts 3x12
one legged squats 3x10 (each side)
Plie Squats 1x10 1x8 1x12 hmmmm, can't save energy for the last set, must go all out!
hammy curls 3x10
calf raises 3x12
I was going to do lunges too but my knees just weren't going to do it. Bball always makes them shaky. And I guess I'll fess up to some of my exercise history....I used to workout in college about 5-6 hours a day! Yikes! My night usually consisted of running, doing stair stepper, then playing full court bball for a couple hours, then lifting for about an hour. It was terrible. I couldn't walk up or down stairs because of my knees and i needed about 3 ibuprofen just to get out of bed in the morning. A few times I took so much ibuprofen that I just made myself sick. I never took a day off, worked out with strep throat, a bum ankle, my terrible knees, etc. So it pretty much sucked. My mom and sister saw me about 3 months after I started all this and they told me I looked terrible! I was actually about 20 pounds heavier than I am now and bulky. I guess when I look back on it I was bulking kinda by eating a ton and lifting. I really dropped weight when I met my husband and something else took up my time. :)
So that's my knees story, almost everyone has one! Hopefully they'll last me ;)
Have a great day guys!

Glad to hear that the burn has calmed down, now you can actually enjoy being outside again as it is another amazing day!!
Nice w/o. I have trouble w/ my knee as well and I find that glucosamine is just about the greatest thing ever! However, the lunges can be tricky sometimes.
But i LOVE LUNGES :)
As for the squats, I would do the one leg squat b/f regular squats b/c you are gonna fatigue certain muscles w/ the reg. squat first then you end up substituting on the one legs. That is just my own experience- not sure how valid it is tho.
Man, I wanna play bball so bad!!!
MsJewels
04-28-2005, 07:55 AM
OMG, WHO loves lunges?? Megs, you are nuts. ;) Just teasing. I'm a squatting girl, myself. I know I've got to learn to love those $*^#*$ lunges, though, as in the future my trainer is going to make me do plyometrics ones... That will be TORTURE! ha ha! I actually like single leg lunges, though, using the smith machine.
I don't think it's overkill doing regular squats then single leg ones (how do you do single leg squats? With a barre?)

Thanks guys :) Yes, Megin, I will be going for my walk today at lunch...didn't even want to feel hot the past few days!! ha! Thanks for the advice on the squats, I'll try that next time.
Ms Jewels-I put one leg up on a flat bench and then hold a dumbell on the side that is squatting. maybe these would be classified as some sort of lunge?

Give me lunges. Weighted, Reps, or Plyos- Doesn't matter, I CAN'T GET ENOUGH!
Arose- Do you do your single squats w/ one of those big balls against the wall or on the machine for balance.
Jewels-You take one of those big balls that they use for yoga and place between the wall and the lower part of your back. Then you stand on one leg and squat. You can add weight after you get the balance part down. On you can do it on the smith machine.

"I don't use a ball or the machine for single squats...just a bench for my other leg to put on...is this considered a lunge?"

I call those things Single Leg Squats.. I get in the squat rack, load up the olympia and have a bench behind me, then I kick my leg up behind me, and squat down and then up, do my 3x12 or whatever, switch legs, go at it again... I really feel those bad boys in my glutes and quads.. BUT ESPECIALLY IN THE GLUTES THE NEXT DAY! They are the reason I can't walk for the next 2 days..I'm almost positive! lol

Thanks gals :) I guess I'll just stick to my first post and call em single leg squats. Funny thing is that I don't feel my legs hurting at all today...hmmmm, don't know if I like that! I know I could've done more weight on the plie's but I'm still going slow on these because I tend to cramp up with heavy weight on em. I felt like I went heavy everywhere else though. I guess we'll see tomorrow! I went for my walk at lunch and it was gorgeous!!!! 75 degrees, sunny, breezy...reminds me of Minneapolis in the summer...miss that damn place.
Anyway, food's been great today, too much PB as always but i'm going to enjoy it for next week and then its gone for at least 3-4 months...COLD TURKEY! A little nervous about that but hey, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Being inspired by the egg talks lately, I am going to force down some egg whites daily, maybe not as many as Ivey Itch but hopefully they'll be a good protein source for me because I am not a fan of meat....especially when I have to cook it! ha!
I am still trying to figure out a split for cutting, my gym is open from 11AM-9PM Monday-Fri and closed weekends in the summer. I work from 8-5 and have class until 8:30 two nights a week so I am thinking about making a five day split. I'll post it in a few days when i get it down and would love feedback if you have it ;) Something like cardio M-F mornings and then lift every night except the nights I have class, then I'll lift during my lunch hour. Problem with AM cardio is that I live in a really bad neighborhood and can't really even be out in the dark by myself :( (hubby won't let me either). I'll have to dig out my firm tapes maybe! Well, have a great evening guys and thank you everyone for your advice and inspiration!!!!!!!

Didn't workout this morning, going tonight to do chest/tris. Tomorrow I'm going to do shoulders and bis...a weird split but I had to accomodate my bball earlier this week:)
So I figured out a training schedule for my "cut" starting Monday, May 9:

Tuesday--Lunch lift Tris
Wednesday--AM Cardio Firm tape, PM Back
Thursday--Lunch lift Bis
Friday--PM Chest
Saturday--Cardio HIIT

If someone could let me know what they think about this new split and any improvements that can be made that'd be great. Thanks :)

I had one exam. The other course was all assignments (yes they were near impossible lol.. but I did good). I didn't do as well as I would have liked on the exam but I have no regrets with regards to my studying. It was open book and there was this !@&*($ formula I didn't know from my undergrad because I never use it that messed up half of one question. UGH. But at least it wasnt my studying that was at fault. Problem is I had a panic attack during my midterm and I spent the first 40 minutes of the test unable to get anywhere so my midterm mark was about 20% lower than it should have been given my in test knowledge. So I likely did worse than everyone else on the midterm and about average on the final. Which means I won't be getting near the marking I wanted. But I'm really trying to not stress it. The mark doesn't matter for my current degree. It only matters for the PhD program.
Edit: Good luck on your exams!

ouch forgetting the quadratic formula.. I couldn't forget that one.. it gets used all the time. It was something from 2nd year undergrad that I probably only used twice since. My test only had 4 questions on it. The first 2 were really easy, the 3rd one didn't make any sense and the 4th one needed that formula half way through. I have a feeling not many people got the 3rd one though. We don't get percentage grades here just letters so it all depends on how the prof wants to map the marks. I just keep reminding myself that I already had the required coursework prior to this course so a low mark won't matter for this degree which is what I should be concentrating on.
Anyways, thanks again for that website. Those DIY flower tips along with the flowers by month is wonderful.

medial raises 3x12
front/lat raises 3x12

hammers 3x12
incline 3x12

Added:
Upright rows 1x14 2x12
Incline curls killed me!!! I walked out of the gym having one of those "look at my biceps!" moments lol! It was great :) Okay, got sidetracked with fitday and everything for my cutting stuff...I'll post the proposed meal plan in a few days. I figured that if I cut PB, a large amount of my cals are gone :( I have it planned but right now I have 4 shakes and I'm still under 1800 by a bit :( Bummer, I'll figure out some foods that don't have high fat in em to add some cals. Ratios look great right now but I'm stomaching 11 egg whites and a can of tuna a day...not my fave. I suppose that I have to eat this way to get what I want. Water will be my "chaser" for tuna, and egg whites for that matter. Hold breath, minimize chewing, swallow, gulp water!
Gotta run, have a good one!!

sounds like things are going great! I've gotten addicted to working out in front of the mirrors...it tickles me pink when I can see my muscles while I'm squatting/pressing/pushing/grunting out my sets. I keep poking at my biceps like I think they're going to get up and walk away...incline curls are the best!
Cutting out PB entirely, huh? Ever since I started eating cottage cheese I've avoided peanut butter...I find if I eat a little I have to eat a lot. :) My diet's been crap the past couple of days, as has my energy level...amazing how that works. :D
Looks great, chica! Have a great one! Can't wait to see what kind of cutting diet you come up with.

Sounds like you have a non-stop day ahead of you. Hope all goes well with your test tonight. That's a bummer about feeling like you're unprepared - I hate that feeling...
Hang tough though... okay?

Glad to hear others don't like their egg whites/tuna as much as we should :p
Okay, so I want to cry right now....didn't get much sleep because of studying, now I have to work all day and then go to my test tonight right after work. I feel SO unprepared. I bombed my midterm so I have to do really well on this test to get just a B!! Ahhhhhhhh!! And I am getting some computers real cheap here where I work so I have to go buy those today during my lunch hour. Didn't get to workout this morning either, figured sleep was more important but now I feel like crap. Blah, check back with you ladies later:(
What? You don't like the egg whites and tuna??? What am I gonna do w/ you guys- thats the best meal of the day!
Hang in there-... Finals are almost done!!!!! That means summer- woo hoo. I still have two finals left and I know I will feel as unprepared as you prob. do. Best of luck, you can do it. Study on your lunch hour and you will do great!!
You just gotta believe sometimes, it makes all the difference.

Thanks Guys :) Hopefully I'll do alright tonight...less than an hour away now. Yes, it is almost summer but not summer for me! I still have to work both jobs and then I have two more classes starting May 16. But I get to see my mom in June, July, and August! I am super excited!
Well, anyway, thanks again ladies...I'll try my best! For all of my graduate classes I have been able to guess the percentage grade on all my tests within 2 or 3% so I should have a pretty good idea about what my score is tonight. Check you gals later!

Thanks guys! Unfortunately, I don't think I did too well :( pretty disappointed but I got out of it what I put in. The test took me 2 1/2 hours to get done-and I was one of the first ones out! This sucks...my GPA is going to be crap after this semester-nothing but A's from here on out--okay, I'm going to allow a B in Managerial Accounting just because accounting sucks.
Didn't work out yesterday, I was exhausted so I just went home, ate some junk and went to bed. Diet has really gone completely out the window...at work I'm fine, I eat what I bring, but when I get home its like, I'm in the mood for pizza! I have definitely put on a few lbs and my measurements have gone up but I'm okay with that right now...next week I start cutting and within about 2 weeks I'll be back to my "normal" measurements.
Workouts are still going strong. Tonight I'm going to do legs if there aren't too many people in the gym, if there are I'll do chest/tris.
This may sound funny to those of you who are constantly striving for a better body, but I am happy with where I am body-wise. This is good for my self-perception but not so good because when I start to see results I lose my motivation because I just look too damn good LOL! J/k about that last part ;) I don't want to lose motivation this time, its like as soon as my clothes start fitting loosely I stop dieting. (As you can tell, this has happened before) Anyone have any words of encouragement for this? Thanks:)

Too bad about your exam! I've been the first person out very frequently. Ever since I started drinking enough I seem to require 8 oz of water per hour and an extra 16 oz in the am. Anyways, when I am in an exam I get 8-12 oz less than normal and I forget to eat something immediately before going in. So I end up hungry and dizzy by 2.5 hours and I just want to leave :(
A b is ok.. managerial accounting sounds pretty boring. :)
As for the diet.. I think most of us mess it up during exams. I didn't do too bad since I only had one but back when I had 3-5 exams it was bad. You are probably also retaining water since you were eating pizza which has tons of sodium.
as for the motivation.. I don't know.. I think I get some of my motivation from FH always encouraging me.. I really like the endorphins too.. and the rush of adrenaline.. but you play basketball so you probably already get that.. I know .. you'll be more intimidating to the other team ;)
arose70
05-03-2005, 07:40 AM
Thanks Terracotta, you always have such words of wisdom:) Hmmm, endorphins for motivation is great! I definitely get those when I workout and that's what keeps me going there...it's just the damn diet that kills me. If I'm doing well and then slip up one night but don't see/feel any harm from it, then I'm like, okay, I can do this today too, and the next day, etc. Maybe I just need to stop that first slip up! I know Wannabemodel is pretty intent on her no slip ups for a while so maybe I'll get some motivation from there...any other input is more than welcome:)
Haha, more intimidating to the other team, eh? I hope so....muhahahahahaha!

I can completely relate to losing a little motivation when you start seeing good results and letting the diet slip. I've just determined that the further I push myself each time, the more I'm capable of minor "relaxations" and can still make progress. Does that make sense? So, if you get yourself to a point where you're just continually improving, there are more opportunities to allow yourself little treats without it negating all the hardwork you're putting in. Like, with me, I have been doing really well for about 2 1/2-3 weeks (and I drop weight now fairly quickly with the new cardio addition) so on Sunday I allowed myself a King Size Snickers (510 calories of sheer chocolate bliss) and know that after all the work this week I'll still see progress and be able to allow myself another treat. I'm lovin' that. ;)

05-03-2005, 10:28 AM
well, wannaturnheads stole the words right out of my mouth :)
Treating yourself is a way to celebrate your progress without stopping yourself from continuing to work hard. I've found if I allow myself some sugary cereal, or some beer :) every once in awhile, it makes me want to work even harder, to make sure it doesn't reverse all the progress i've made so far!!!
Buying cute, tight clothes and nice new workout outfits helps me too...motivates me to work so I can keep wearing them ;)

Kudos to those posts!
When I end up having a 'cheat' food, it seems like I have my best workouts the next day to compensate for the previous. It is motivation to be able to eat what you like every once and a while. You will get back into it- don't give up girl, you have worked sooo hard!!
I am so glad that you are happy w/ how you look, but there is more to w/o and eating right then looks- do it for your health and state of mind. Thats the reason I do it :)
-Awh, you don't like accounting? That has been my fav. class so far in college!!
(yea, I know, I love accounting and lunges- what is wrong w/ me!)

Hey Guys! Those are great ideas about the little cheats...I just now have to find a cheat food that I can just eat once and not have my will power go out the window!!
Yesterday I did make it to the gym even though I really didn't want to go. Had a quick wo with chest/tris:
incline bench 1x12 1x10 1x9
flat bench 3x11
flys 2x11 1x9
dips 1x8 1x7 1x7
That's it, didn't do too much tri isolation work, they were tired from chest.
I FINALLY got a good cutting meal plan *I think* and would LOVE any advice about what I could be doing differently. Alright, here are the macros from Fitday:
Total: 1850
Fat: 40 363 21%
Sat: 11 95 5%
Poly: 9 80 5%
Mono: 15 137 8%
Carbs: 163 497 29%
Fiber: 39 0 0%
Protein: 220 881 51%
And here are the proposed meals(without my beloved PB!):
Meal 1: 2 Protein cakes + .5 banana
Meal 2: Apple + whey shake
Meal 3: 1 Cup Lentils + 2 cups green veggies+whey shake
Meal 4: 2 Protein cakes +.5 banana (pre workout)
Meal 5: 1 Cup Yogurt + whey shake (Post Workout)
Meal 6: 4 whites + 2-3 cups salad+whey shake
Meal 7: 1 can water-packed Tuna (blah)+fish oil
I know there are some areas that need improvement(4 shakes!! yikes!) But that is the start and hopefully I'll acquire a taste for tuna/egg whites!
The protein cakes are made up of .5 cup oats, .5 cup CC, 4 whites and this is for all 4 cakes. This is the plan for my lifting days during lunch. It will change a bit when I lift at night (more carbies at night then). Let me know what you think!!! :)

Hey Guys! Those are great ideas about the little cheats...I just now have to find a cheat food that I can just eat once and not have my will power go out the window!!
Just a little advice on the small cheats. Decide in advance what day you're going to do it (if you have an event that it would be easy to add a few extra calories or if you plan on a really heavy weight session, etc. Then, decide on a specific food-one that you really want but will be capable of only having that and nothing else and only one serving. Then, go to where you can get that food-if you can choose somewhere that only that is available (what I do is wait until I"m going to rent movies and then go to the video place, they have a limited candy selection and it's easy for me to only buy one thing. If I went to the grocery store I'd have sensation overload and be capable of buying more than just one. People would look at you strangely if you bought 10 candy bars in a movie store, but not in a grocery store. Make sense?) Anyway, then I get home, sit down in front of the video and enjoy the candy bar slowly and mentally appreciate it the whole time knowing that once it's gone, it's gone and I continue with life as normal. I am convincing myself that I'm satisfied by it and that it's all I need to carry on the next week with a hardcore diet/training. ;)
Beans and lentils rule!!! hehehe

So, since posting my "cutting diet" I have learned that I am fat. Obviously, someone who is 27% bf cannot cut up their muscles, therefore, I am going to concentrate on losing the bf, and the new name of my diet is "lose bf, fatass"...j/k! But it is "lose bf" not, "cutting". So yes, this was motivating for me...I don't want to be that girl that is fat and doesn't know it-so now I know it. Starting Monday I will be focused on losing about 5% bf and 15lbs by July 9. This would put me in the upper 160s to low 170s for weight and 22% bf. I got calipers but haven't had a chance to use them yet. I will post those results probably Monday, along with measurements and an official weigh-in.
I know 15 pounds is doable for me...the first 6-8 pounds will drop in about 2 weeks and then I can concentrate on about 1-2 pounds per week until July. By August 30, I would like to be at 19-20% bf and at that point I don't care how much I weigh. So overall, I am looking at a 7-8%bf reduction in about 3.5 months.
I have tweaked my diet at the advice from Briars, Aprilai, and MsFit (thank you very much for your honesty and advice) and would still like any other advice anyone has:
Meal 1: 2 protein cakes .5 banana
Meal 2: yogurt and whey shake
Meal 3: 1 cup lentils, 2 cups veg, 1 can tuna
Meal 4: 2 protein cakes (pre wo)
Meal 5: shake and .5 banana (post wo)
Meal 6: 4 whites, 2-3 cups salad, .25 cup oats dry, can tuna
Meal 7: Shake and fish oil caps
Total: 1819
Fat: 41 368 22%
Sat: 10 90 5%
Poly: 10 88 5%
Mono: 16 144 8%
Carbs: 155 474 28%
Fiber: 36 0 0%
Protein: 215 860 51%
I will try to take out that last shake before bed and replace with CC after a couple of weeks. That will be a major change to eat CC and I don't want to go too quickly with major changes because I will just give up. I also may give up that .25 cup oats at meal 6 if the carbs are bothering me but, as briars said, that is my first "real" meal after working out and I will likely need the carbs.
This will be the new training schedule:
Monday--AM cardio Firm tape, PM legs/shoulders
Tuesday--Lunch lift Tris
Wednesday--AM Cardio Firm tape, PM Back
Thursday--Lunch lift Bis
Friday--PM Chest
Saturday--Cardio HIIT
Sunday--Cardio HIIT
I will likely add another day of AM cardio, low intensity, to facilitate the fat loss. This will happen probably after a month, to see how fast the bf is dropping.
Hmm, feeling a bit down today, I guess the realization that you are fat is pretty weird. I never considered myself fat, just "big-boned"! I guess that is the polite way of saying "fat". I feel like I sorta have been living a lie for years, with people telling me I'm pretty, etc. Well, I'm done with my novel now, thanks for everyone's help and for the posts in my journal, I really appreciate it, and I am on the track to change starting Monday. I WILL HAVE A BF IN THE TEENS BY AUGUST.
Oh, and funny that just a few posts ago I was saying that I lose motivation when my clothes start fitting losely because I think I look okay. Well, I am not going to "look okay" until my bf is in the low 20s/high teens.

Thanks guys, and Terra, your nutrition info was very helpful too--the beans especially!
Sb, I know we are similar stats but it is very possible that you have a much lower bf than I do...just looking at that bicep pic of yours pretty much tells me that! So, even though we are similar in height and measurements, you probably look and are much leaner than I am because of the low bf.
Yes, this will be a bf loss diet, and I hope it will be fun. Still think I am fat though...Hmmmm, now I can't say "I'm having a fat day"! LOL! This is huge motivation for me though...I think the calipers will be the same at 27%. Thanks for the support guys, I can't wait to show some before and after pics...in August of course!

Your goals look great Arose!!! You really sound motivated! Are you still planning on using the calipers on Monday? You will definitely have a better shot at accuracy with those than with bodycomp. com. Although bodycomp is great for long range tracking ... the bodyfat % are not the best way to go.

Soooooooooo, tonight I am going on a cruise!!! A gambling cruise that is (megin will probably know about these)...we can't gamble here in Florida (I sure do miss my Mystic Lake casino in Minnesota) so we take boats out into the ocean until we get into international waters...about 3 miles. They have tables, slots, roulette, anything! Anyhoo, I am a pretty lucky gal and I usually do really well so I hope I will tonight too!!! The hubby and I are going and I got this sexy new shirt to wear because i have been getting those "wow, you're wearing that old t-shirt again?" comments from him! I am really excited. I got done with my last final last night and he got done with all his stuff today! (of course he still has his thesis and comps to work on over our 1 week break).
So it'll be our first time really relaxing with each other in a while...then we're gonna go to a bar afterwards and smoke a couple cigars :D I know, bad, but its a bonding thing for us! We have an awesome pic of us smoking these huge cigars after our wedding! ha!
So, this morning, other than getting no curls up on 30#s I did a small bi/shoulder workout and then went home. This weekend I have to work saturday and sunday because of mother's day...that is seriously one of the worst days to be a server. Well, you all have a great weekend and if I'm not on until monday, happy mother's day to all you mothers!!!!! Enjoy your day!

Okay, I just have to say this again because these things are kinda all hitting me now that I don't have school to think about.
1. Finals are OVER! No school for a week!!
2. I am going to start an incredibly healthy diet next week and I do not want to have to tweak it to get tuna and egg whites out. I am going to force myself for AT LEAST 3.5 months to eat this diet consistently. Then, in September, I will see what I can change.
3. I will get right back into my heavy lifting next week with the addition of cardio..4 sessions for sure, maybe 5 if I am feeling up to it.
Alright, phew, sorry for this extra post, i just want to be able to track my times of high motivation to be able to look back at them this summer when I think one more egg white will actually kill me. I am GOING to be such a hottie in September...that is my new mantra!! :D

We're both going to be hotties in September. Have a wonderful mother's day, and don't let them work you too hard!

Hello everyone!
Hollyday-the cruise was a blast but I lost half my money :( My hubby broke even with blackjack so that was alright. That sucks about your ID! You must look under 21 :D
Well, I had a rant here about my sucky weekend and working Sat and Sun and how bad it was because it was graduation Sat and Mother's Day Sun but I decided to appease your eyes and delete it...
Got all my food ready last night and I just finished my 2 protein cakes and .5 banana. Diet today will look like the one posted except a few changes because I'll be lifting at night. I didn't do my morning cardio today because I knew I'd be too exhausted. I will do it tomorrow, Wednesday, Sat, Sun. Tonight is legs and i will have to do some switching around with the rest of the week because I have to work Friday night now too.
I haven't been this tired in a LONG time...just sucks because this is my one week off between semesters and I have to work a ton and I'm exhausted. I was contemplating not starting the diet this week because I was not motivated to do it. I was justifying it all sorts of ways...thinking about the "stages of readiness" and that I wasn't "ready" enough to start this...not motivated enough. But then I had planned it so much that I just went through the motions of preparing my food last night and this morning and eating it.
I didn't do bf test today (I want to do it in the morning) or measurements because I could barely get dressed I was so tired --one of those no makeup, no hair-do days. But I did jump on the scale, and I thought about fibbing my weight because I was embarrassed but then I am such a bad liar and I'd feel so bad about it that I decided to post the real weight, then when I lose it all, I can feel that much better about it!
Weight:185.8 (YIKES)
I know all of this isn't fat so I'm hoping that by the end of this week I'll be about 180-181 and then by the end of next week I'll be about 177-178. Then the tough part comes after that. I'll be weighing in on Friday's and doing measurements then too. Then bf will be calipered every two weeks and I already took "before" pics.
wow, what a long post! Hope everyone had a great weekend and a nice Mother's Day. Wish me luck in staying awake today and getting to legs;)

I'm rooting for you, oh uber-hottie in the making. I think you're ALREADY a hottie...you're just improving on an already awesome base.
Keep up the good work miss thang, it's great to see that even the stress of finals isn't managing to hold you back. :)

Hi arose!
Sorry you're so tired... Good for you for sticking to your plan. Ironically it's probably less stressful to start the diet, because if you didn't you just might spend the next week agonizing over how you didn't start. Since food and everything was planned, it's should be one less thing to worry about... yah? ;)
By the way - I agree with Sunny - I saw your pics... you already are a hottie! But if you want to go for being the "hottest hottie" it sounds like you're on your way. Just be sure to get some rest along the way, busy girl :)
Bummer about losing 1/2 your money on the gambling cruise... I love to gamble, and I'm an expert at losing my money :p Cool thing is that my hubs is really good about winning. So I guess we usually break even.
Hope you have a good day and don't get too sleepy! (I'm now a fan of the diet rock star energy drinks... ZING! :D )

Yes, hottest hottie will be the next goal...I'll make that one in September! Well, diet is on point so far today and I just had my first can of tuna ever. Um, gross is all I can say. I heard that if you boil it the flavor and smell are reduced a tad so i boiled about 4 cans yesterday. It was okay. I started eating it plain and then added a few veggies to chew with it then added a bunch of veggies because it hid the taste/texture! I couldn't get down my full cup of lentils and 2 cups veg with the tuna though so i gave the rest to my hubby and he loved it!
So I probably got in about 1/2 cup lentils and 1 cup veg and the whole can tuna. I am snacking on some carrots now though so that should make up for lunch. I am also going to have 2 protein cakes in about 1/2 hour and then go to the gym. Might do chest/tris tonight or back/bis as I am still really tired and worn down. I'd rather do legs when I can look forward to kicking the crap outta em rather than dreading it. I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.
Thanks for all your help and support ladies, it is so awesome and so motivating!!!!!

Hehe, I don't know if Florida can handle 2 hotties! Few, good thing we are not in the same city because 'cause September- you are gonna be taking all of the guys (even tho you have one ;))
Anyway, good luck w/ the studying- My last exam is tomorrow and then I am officially a senior! Crazy!!!
Way to keep on track w/ the nutrition- its the hardest part for me. I wasn't able to make the cookies yet because I don't have the ingredients to make them and since I am moving in 2 days I can't buy any more food. Hopefully, I will get to make them soon tho b/c I just think that is fab! I am a big fan of the protein pancakes tho, they are amazing. Lentils- are those good?
GOOD WORK AND STAY AWAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's right, FL can't handle two hotties...Ivey Itch is moving here too!!! HA! And the barbellsNbikins tour next year in Miami will be insane!
I made "Happy" cookies tonight (the oatmeal cookies on the recipe thread) They actually didn't turn out too bad...I think I needed to add more egg whites though because they were really crumbly.
Tonight's WO Chest/Tri:
Incline Bench 1x12 1x10 1x10
Flat Bench 1x12 1x10 1x9
Flys 3x10
Assisted Dips 1x8 1x6 1x6
rope pulldowns 3x12
Today's nutrition on the new diet did not go as planned...I am incredibly stuffed right now and I almost gagged on an egg white in my salad. Blah. I didn't force myself to eat today before my WO because I was sooooo full from my lentils/veg/tuna earlier...gosh that just makes me queasy typing "tuna". Anyhoo, my cals were low but the macros looked good.
Major question: Should I add a limited amount of PB back into my diet to increase cals? Lemme know what you gals think-I held back at the grocery store tonight to get you all's opinion first!
Here is the breakdown today:
Total: 1380
Fat: 19 174 14%
Sat: 6 57 4%
Poly: 3 27 2%
Mono: 2 20 2%
Carbs: 161 502 39%
Fiber: 35 0 0%
Protein: 151 605 47%
Hmph, :( I want cals!!!!!!!!! I REALLY did not want to tweak this diet at all but I can't last with the egg whites. Which sucks because I boiled about 2 dozen yesterday:)

Yes, you need more food! How about walnuts instead of peanut butter? Or adding flax to your AM oats(if you eat AM oats)? What do you eat before bed? Maybe adding a cup of skim milk before bed?

Cottage cheese?
Oatmeal?
Eat more, babygirl, you won't be able to sustain your workouts on only 1300 cals a day.

Hey All, thanks for your replies...I don't eat oats or cottage cheese on their own (sorry but I think its really gross ;) )..I eat protein pancakes for breakfast with 1/2 banana. That's about a 1/4 cup of oats and 1/4 cup cottage cheese and about 2 egg whites. Before bed I have a shake and fish oil pills. I could definitely add milk to this pre-bed shake for another 100 cals-that's a great start! I could also add the walnuts to meal 2 which is yogurt and my other shake of the day. It's not Pre WO so I think fat at that time would be good. I'll see how expensive they are first ;}
Sunny, I know I can't sustain ANYTHING on 1300 cals/day! lol! I want em up to at least 1800 if not 1900 to start this diet because I may have to eventually cut cals for a short time to see continuous results. Well, I'll see what I can do today and let you guys know. Thanks so much for your advice ladies!!

Since you only eat .25 cup oats in the AM, why not increase that to .5 cup? And what about having 4 egg whites instead of 2?

That'd work, I would just eat two more pancakes. They are a tad hard for me to get down so I might just eat a whole banana with em. I hate that 1/2 banana crap, it's a banana for pete's sake...another 1/2 won't kill me! hahaha! Thanks Wannabemodel, I will put your suggestions into fitday and see what comes out!!! You're awesome!

Well I have the same problem too. I can't seem to get in enough food. If only the people around me would realize you can lose weight by eating lots..lol.
Also a tablespoon of natural peanut butter is good. I've been adding it to my PWO shake (chocolate protein powder, skim milk, ice banana and pb) and it is sooooo yummy!
I need to buy some vanilla protein powder so I can make those pancakes. Do you eat them plain or put something on them?

Hey Arose -- I don't particularly like tuna either, but try this -- it makes it a lot more bearable: dump the can in a bowl, and break it up really well with a fork. Then get all your salad veggies out and start chopping. I put in lots of spinach, grated carrots, green and red peppers, red cabbage, broccoli, squash, and maybe a little bit of green onion. Add 1-2 teaspoons of olive oil (might want to cut back on the peanut butter that day), plenty of red wine vinegar, and salt and cracked black pepper. If you can use some starchy carbs in the same meal, add 1/2 cup barley or brown rice. The trick is to chop the veggies up fine so they mix all in with the tuna and you don't get a whole lot of tuna in any one bite!

that's a lot of reading.......trying to catch up with you here. Girl I'm wayyyy impressed with your hard work. Way to get your calories up. I KNOW how that difficult that can be for some odd reason. LOL you would think we would love the license to eat more. you are a definite hottie and i'm trying to follow close behind.
one way that i like tuna (kids do too) is sooo simple....just throw some lemon pepper or some mrs dash seasoning on it....make tuna patties with it....my kids will eat those up.
have a good one chica

I will definitely have to look into lemon pepper...today's tuna was, um, gross again. I'm also gonna see about adding some lettuce to that tuna meal and smothering it with veggies to mask any tuna-ness that is there. (hehe, you knew I was a FORMER PB addict, huh??!! That is too funny!!! :D)My #s look lots better though!!!

And tomorrow I'm adding 2 more protein cakes and that should put me over 1800!!!!
Revised Meals:
Meal 1: 4 protein cakes(.5 cup oats, .5 cup CC, 4 whites), 1 banana
Meal 2: cup yogurt and whey
Meal 3: Can tuna, .5 cup lentils, 1 cup veg
Meal 4: 2 protein cakes (Pre wo)
Meal 5: yogurt and whey (post wo)
Meal 6: 2 "happy" cookies (.5 cup oats) and cup veg
Meal 7: whey in skim and fish oil caps
Hmmm, I should add some protein to meal 6 and take out a shake overall. Probably the one in Meal 2...I'll replace with real food as soon as I feel comfortable.
I have a diet I can live with but you know what??????!!! I've already decided my first cheat :p It will be a big serving of vanilla frozen yogurt with sprinkles...mmmmm, I can taste it now! I think this is the sugar leaving my body-the first few days are always the hardest. That cheat won't happen until at least June 10, when my mom comes to visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully not then either, I'd like to wait until the beginning of July but we'll see. Have a good night ladies!

HOW ARE THOSE COOKIES???
Why do you have to eat tuna- why not chicken or turkey? Seems that if you don't like tuna then you are not going to be looking forward to eating it- which is half the fun of the day!
Great job arose- you are def. on the right track...I am trying to catch up to you :)

Megs, I eat tuna because of the availability and cost...supporting both my husband and myself in grad school is quite the undertaking! Both chicken and turkey are pretty expensive compared to tuna. I am such a picky meat eater too---I can't stand the look of deli turkey after a couple days, all slimy! And, like you, I am a TERRIBLE cook...don't laugh but the other night i tried to hard boil eggs and messed up about 6 of em because I put them right into the boiling water--really, I cried over this, man that was a ****ty day!
And I can't stand handling raw chicken/beef/turkey/anything. It totally grosses me out to the point that I can't eat the meat when its cooked. It's all mental, I know but when I get a gag reflex without even eating the food, I lose all appetite. So, that brings me to tuna...cooked already, open can, fork it over with some veggies and I'm done. Although that can looks deceivingly small :(
I would like to try something different in the tuna's place but I'm not finding anything as of yet...my search is far from over though! Thanks for askin:)
Oh, and the cookies are good...make sure you mash em into that 1/4 cup before you put them on the sheet or else they get pretty crumbly. Mine looks more like granola than a cookie ;)
