View Full Version : Wiped out after leg day

Is there any way to speed post-workout recovery after a heavy leg workout??

My leg workout is squats, hacks, and leg press. Takes about an hour to get all three exercises in. My squat is 475#, my hacks are 780# (about), and my leg presses are 1380#. All sets are done with 12 reps. Once a month or so, I max out on the weights. I dont do any open chain exercises on my legs. I train them once per week.

My overall training is 4x with a trainer, with a rest day before and after legs. My diet is 40/40/20 (3100 calories). I am 5'6.5", 180#. Prior to training legs in the morning, I have a protein drink of about 1000 calories, and after workout I have a protein drink of 25/35 (Rapid Recovery)on the way home from the gym, followed with a good meal.

The problem I have is that I do my legs on Saturday, and I spend the rest of the day just laying around and trying to recover. Seems like it is taking so long to recover from my leg workout. Any one got any ideas on what I can do to speed the recovery?? Seems like my day comes to a stop when I finish up lets. Thanks for any input you may have.

Takes me 4 sometimes even 5 days to recover from leg day.

I do legs on Mondays (usually) and I am still hobbling around on Friday. I guess I enjoy it, though.

Hey, if you're not wiped out after a leg day... you ain't doin' it right!

You know, I consider that a 'good' pain. Pain that I know is helping in the long run.

You said that your at or around 3000 calories, what weight?. Are you doing any cardio or are you on your feet throughout the day (factory worker, shopping, running from the law)? Reason I ask is that will slow your recovery down quite a bit.

I had one of those near passing out or puking leg workouts after the first 4 out of 5 sets of squats last night. Finished the remaining 4 excercises within the hour, but man the floor felt good after. I'll probably be sore until Wed or Thur.
Make sure your taking your vitamins. 1500 of C.

Always puke on leg days. Takes everything outta me and rcovery is like 3-4 days easy. Need one of them motorized whellchairs just to leave the gym in.

i do legs on Saturday as well and usually the DOMS goes away by Wed-Thu.Still some slight pain in my hammies today.deal with it man.No pain no gain.Working out legs is the most taxing on the body.Ever since I added bulgarian split squats to my routine, leg day has never been the same. Im hungry like a mofo all day on leg day :)
i usually do a 30 min light jog on Sunday and that seems to help by the way.Apart from that food and rest!!

You'll get used to it after a year or so. Strong legs require a lot of pain.
