I don't think the injuries are serious to his health, but they may prevent him from lifting at the Worlds. This might even be the end of his career.

Hmm, that sucks. Must not be too bad for them to contemplate his participation in the event.

What's the last comp to qualify for a spot?

I don't think he needs to qualify. It is up to the individual countries to decide who they want to send.

My guess is that he hasn't been training at all since the accident and that they really have no idea if he will be his old self. Even a minor injury can have big consequences for someone on that level.

Bleh. Sorry to hear that. I knew something like this would happen. They guy is fooling around with the weights, he could set a REAL all time record, but I have a feeling he will either get too old or too injured before he ever does. He's too comfortable. He's an outstanding lifter, it just seems he could be so much better.

Hes the king ya know and he really has noone pushing him at all anymore. Yes there are a few decent 105+ lifters but none even close to on his level.I think if another guy were to push him In competitions throughout his rein as he would have hit a 267kg c+j by now and prolly a 217kg snatch.

Yes, but I am wondering when the last comp to qualify is?

It's not really done like that in most countries, at least in the U.S. They will have team trials, where guys can show their stuff, but pretty much everybody knows who the top guys are, because they have been competing for a while and each country's weightlifting organization will pick the team from these guys, based on how good of a chance of medaling they have in each weight class. The U.S., for example, will typically send more than one guy in each of the heavier weight classes, and often noone in any of the lighter classes, because our heavier lifters are relatively better.
