I bet your kids want to be there constantly!
Oh my gosh... they LOVE the beach. My oldest (he's 9) would stay in the water all day long. He doesn't care how cold it is or how windy, he stays in until he's way past prune-stage. :p The only way I get him out of the surf is to threaten not to come to the beach again.
My youngest would rather be in a pool where he *knows* there aren't any sharks around.
So today was cardio. 45 minutes.
Now I'm killing time at work until I meet my husband at the tax guy's office. <blech> I don't like tax time. Thank goodness this guy is fast.
Hi Alecia! Neck seems to be good - I have x-rays and another appt with the surgeon tomorrow morning. And 10's are still working for me! :D

Good morning!
How weird... I posted yesterday, but I don't see it anywhere.
Anyway - I did my cardio on Tuesday, upper bod on Wednesday and cardio again on Thursday.
The upper body workout was a little disappointing, I did DB incline bench press for the first time in over 3 months and man am I weak! I leaned back with the 40's for my last set and I couldn't even get them into position. :( I guess I'll just have to keep working at it to get back where I was.
I was supposed to do a light leg workout yesterday, but ended up having a 2-hour lunch with 2 best friends that I hadn't seen in a long time. (yum sushi & sashimi ;) ) So.... going out for lunch trumped my workout and I didn't get it in. I'm sure everyone in my office thinks I'm the most unsociable person because I never go out to lunch because it interferes with my workouts. :p
It's cold and raining here today - even putting snow on our mountains and it's SO pretty! I'm supposed to go to a wedding and then make dinner for some guests. I'll see if I can slip a leg workout in here sometime this weekend.

I know what you mean ... I just 'hate' feeling obligated to do anything that imposes on 'my wo time'!!! I do however, make sure that I work the friends in too ... it just can get to be a matter of finding the time!!
So glad all is going well with Operation Bikini!!

Just a quickie post so my journal doesn't start another slow death. :p
I'm headed out the door to go do a training for some new staff. BUT... I did get my cardio in yesterday. :D 30 minutes on the bike and 10 minutes on the treadmill.
....more to follow later today. :)

Hola!
Hey Alecia... adoption papers... I think your hubs might have a problem with that?? :p
Hi Kris! Hi Sherdi!
Yep - I lived in another town for 5 years once and I really missed my home - I love it here. :o Of course my husband wants to move to Colorado or New Mexico, but I told him he'd have to have a better reason to move other than just "good elk hunting".
Okay - on the nutrition side of things, I'm getting in a TON of veggies
Lettuce, carrots, asparagus, tomatos, spinach - YUM!! I might be eating too much dairy between the low fat string cheese and cottage cheese and lo-carb yogurt. Not sure if having all 3 in one day is too much dary or not.
Yesterday was my upper body workout and I finally did flat bench dumbbell press for the first time - strength wasn't too bad. I got the 40's up easily enough, but I definitely have a goal now. I'm eyeing those 60's
Funny story - well.... funny to me... :p The fitness director of the Y told me they were starting a women's free-weight intro class. She asked if she could take pics of me in the weight room for the class brochure. Hmmm.... okay. I chuckled thinking this should be kinda fun.
She came in with her camera near the end of my workout. I asked her what she wanted me doing... she looks around and says..."Go grab some of those weights and lets have you on the bench here".
Me: "Okay"
Her: "Wait.. not those.... grab a set of those 5's or 7.5s"
Me: "the wimpy ones???"
Her: "Yes, we don't want to scare the ladies away.... they can move to amazon status after a few months"
Me: <sigh> "okay"
Of course... now... the weightroom is getting crowded... dang. I picked up the little weights and was so happy they weren't pink. I shuffled to the bench stating loudly: "Are you sure I can't use the 40's" :p
Anyway - she snapped a few pics of me doing a "bench press". When she left, I put them back and grabbed the 20's for my incline DB curls and secretly hoped everyone noticed. (silly... I know...)
Okay - I better get some work done, I've got a ton of stuff to do.

LMAO!!! That's awesome about the brochure! I do the SAME thing...i HATE light day with a vengance...I just want to wear a shirt that day to say "I lift twice this usually, I swear". :D :D. It does get me motivated once I hit the gym though-to put up a few heavy db's or plates and get crackin...even if no one is there!!
Good work! I don't think thats too much dairy..but then again, i love dairy so I probably wouldn't be the best to ask.
Oh and I talked to hubs....he said fine as long as he could come too-do you have enough room or should we bring a blow up mattress?

No worries... we already have a blow up mattress! :D Or we can stash the 2 of you in our little pop-up trailer. :p
You make me laugh Alecia. :)
So I did my cardio workout yesterday... more of a HIIT workout too! It was great! Got the new Black Eyed Peas: Pump It on my ipod. Good tune. ;)
Today I have had the munchies all day long! Hungry every 2 hours... weird.. AND it's leg day so I'm about to head over to the gym. I'm already guessing that hubs wants to go out for Mexican food tonight. Scary. So, if I do a super-uber-heavy workout, can I have an enchilada?? mmmm <drool> j/k - I'll probably settle for fish tacos.
I posted a question in the training section if anyone reading this... reads that. :D

Good morning!
Hiya Megs... Sunshine today :D no enchilada last night :D (just the fish tacos)
Leg workout yesterday was just what I needed, I was feeling lazy and yet it ended up being one of my better workouts. I managed to up most of my weights.
Walking Lunges
5 sets of 24 steps with 22.5# dumbbells
Leg Press
8 @ 270, 360, 450, 540, 610 (funny looks on some guy's face when he was looking to bench press and I had most of the 45#s on the press :p )
Seated Leg Curls
3 x 8 @ 100# (super slow = much better)
Seated Calf raise
3 x 18 @ 95#
Obviously not a lot of sets today, but I was wiped out and am feeling my butt hurting already. :D
So, other than TOM greeting me this morning, it's a great day! Now... just need to find something fun to do! Maybe take the boys to the playground and shoot some baskets.... yah?

Um..... hi there... :o
Yes - I've fallen off the (journal) wagon. <sigh>
Hi Alecia, Kris, Barb and Megin... Thanks for popping in my journal. I've been a bad journaler recently. :(
But!!! I'm back. :D
The last week was crazy... I only got one workout in. First I caught a bug, but couldn't really miss any work. Our Y is opening a brand new facility about an hour out of town so I've been out there about every other day. Training new staff, setting up the computer network and to top it off, my buddy co-worker that manages the network quit a week ago and so I've been flying solo. (I bug him on the phone a lot though)
OH - and.... I finally bought a 2-piece yesterday. I don't see how I'm going to look good in it. But come hell or high water... I'm wearing it this summer :D. (I think it will look better if I'm tan... brown fat always looks better than white fat <grin> )
Today I'm co-hosting a baby shower - it's a big one, so I'm guessing my next workout won't be until tomorrow.
Some other good news! I saw the neurologist on Thursday and things are looking good! Did you know that nerves repair themselves at a rate of an inch/month? Just a little neuro-tidbit for ya. :D
Okay - I'm off to help my sister in-law with decorating, she'll totally spaz out if she gets here and sees me casually typing on the comptuer. I'm sure she's pulled her hair out already cause she a stress-queen. (But I love her)
Oh.... I never did get DOMS after my leggie workout... what's up with that?!?!?
I'll be back tonight hopefully so I can catch up on everyone's journal.

HI!!
So I had a nice cardio today - 35 min total... got my heart rate up to the 165-175 range for about 20 min. I did NOT look pretty. :p But I felt great and of course it was raining by the time I left the gym so the walk back to the office was nice and refreshing.
Work is getting so hectic... I'm all over the place and I'm realizing that if I don't just stop and work out, time will get away from me way too fast. Tomorrow is upper body. Need to get my butt in gear with those shoulder DB presses after seeing what Megs is doing.
Barb - you're too funny... you don't like my brown fat observation? :p Okay... I'll stop the negative talk. I thought it was okay if I made it a joke. :o hmmmm....
Kris - the bug came from my youngest son, but no one else here got sick after me thank goodness. We've actually been pretty lucky so far this year.
Hi Sherdi!! the 610# was fun... I could probably do more if I wasn't afraid to grunt! :p
So can I tell you that I'm actually afraid to squat again? I fear my numbers will totally suck. BUT - there's nowhere to go but up... right? :D Maybe I'll try some squats on leg day this week.
Time to put the kiddies to bed... see ya tomorrow!

Hey, Welcome Back! I had to come in here to find out who was putting herself down. My husband says if you talk fat you'll be fat. Your mind believes everything you tell it. So from now on, please be sure to complement yourself every day!
It sounds like you have a pretty stressful and hectic job. I think you should make it a priority to work out every day to keep yourself levelled and in good health for your job and for your family.
Great news from the neurologist! Glad to hear it. :)

Since I hadn't worked legs in quite a while I'm having the most severe 48 hr doms I've had in a long time. :D Oh.. yes I'm happy about that!

Well, it's about TIME ~~ AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!:p :D LOL
I know Barb..... <head hanging down> It's quite embarrassing.
Hi Kris,
My boys are good... my oldest had his first run in with 3 bullies at his school last week. He is such a sweet kid, he's my gentle giant. :) He's not as *street* as all the other boys and not real competitive either. He loves the ocean and animals too. So when the punks at school decided to tag-team bully him it was a pretty big deal. He did get hit, but he didn't want to make a big deal out of it. I finally told him that if they ever hit him that he was to hit them back... hard. Sigh... poor guy. At least he's not afraid of them, he knows now they're just losers.
My main man is doing fine, he is off patrol and is now working as a bailiff in the courts. Which means no more shift work! :D
As for me... I'd say I'm about 80% - I still have limited range of motion in my neck and weird-wacky sensations in my left wrist & thumb area, but I guess that's going to be there for a while. It doesn't hurt, it's just uncomfortable.
Thanks for asking!
I ended up doing cardio on Friday - it was great! Then today I did an upper body workout and am a little bummed about my wimpy incline DB chest press, but I shouldn't be surprised, my workouts have been quite sparse. I'm not even going to bother posting my weights... :p
I'll do cardio again tomorrow as I realize that operation bikini bit the dust about 4-5 weeks ago and I really need to get my booty in gear.... summer is almost here!

That is the one aspect I hate about raising boys .. they get to the age where it is all about who is the strongest, the toughest, the best athlete, can punch the hardest, etc.etc. etc!! BOYS!! I so feel for your son ... these are such hard years for them!!! I tell my boys the same thing ... don't EVER start a fight ... but make sure you finish it if someone comes after YOU!!!

YAY for getting back in the groove! :D How are you doing over there with the new job? Are you enjoying the change in responsibility?
Hmmm.. change in responsibility... Oh yeah. I love it when the powers-that-be decide to give you a huge bump up in responsibility, but don't back it up with $$ or any paperwork. I think I'll give them a couple of weeks more (and prove myself) and then see what their intentions are.
BUT... I am loving the ability to make a decision and not have to clear it when a dozen people. :D
Little Matt had a great time at the play.. I was trying to upload a pic, but my PC has been having issues. OH YEAH... new positition at work did include a brand-spankin' new PC! It's sitting on the floor next to me. ;) Now I just have to set it up.
Okay - now onto workouts: Did the same leg workout last week and no DOMS... what's up with that  I like my DOMS. Then cardio Friday, Saturday we went on a great hike in the mountains with the family. I loved it! My boys were POOPED! :p

Happy Friday Morning!
Megs, Kris and Barb... you ladies make me smile! <grin> I guess it's not so much a matter of letting the journal die, it was a matter of me realizing I was feeling obligated to it... then there were days I just felt pretty darn boring, especially compared to all the other women here who are SO interesting! (wow - amazing how when typing, thoughts just pour out that you didn't realize you had)... yes... I would feel BORING - and staring at a blank journal page only emphazied that at times.
But...Operation Bikini is still chugging along.
So now I'm chuckling at myself because I felt so liberated letting go of the journaling thing, and yet work has slowed a bit so I actually have a few extra free minutes in my day. So while I sit eating my oats and cottage cheese... and a mongo cup of coffee. I thought I'd sneak back in here. :p
Yesterday was leg day:
6 sets of walking lunges... I usually do 5, but got interrupted after the first set for about 5 minutes. The burn had worn off, so I just started over again. (One drawback to working out where you work... staff have no problem coming up to you in the middle of your workout to ask questions.. hmm..) :p
&
Leg Press
SLDL
Calf Raises
That was it...
I was going to do cardio today, but I'm headed to a pilates class instead. I've been having stoopid lower back issues and everyone I talk to says Yoga or Pilates helps a lot... we'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll do cardio after the pilates... yeah?
I have a new friend here at work and we were talking about trying new things.. I'm trying to get her to try indoor rock-wall climbing. I've only done it one time, but it was so much fun. She's trying to get me to play on her city softball team. I can bat pretty good and catch too, but dang it.. I throw like a girl. Hate that. :p (something to work on).
Speaking of new things... got the boys their first hacky-sak. Although I don't see too many people doing that anymore - it's still fun. :)

I thought I'd try it again today because I forgot my ipod at home... It was a different teacher and I was really bummed. It wasn't fun OR challenging. I feel like I wasted a perfectly good workout.
So tomorrow is upper body and I'll only take Pilates on Fridays from now on.
Let's see... what other fun stuff is going on. :) My niece had a baby boy on Friday night. Very exciting! Went to a birthday party in LA to celebrate my cousin's 2 year birthday. This was a little boy that was born at 29 weeks, so every birthday is truly a celebration. :)
I'll check back in when I can... and I do have one pic to post.. :D
Wanna see something cool??

LOL..... Good thing - incredible technology... guess I'm just in awe of the neurosurgeon and the mystery bone donor. :D I keep teasing my hubs that my *plate* is bigger than his. (He had the same surgery last year)
Anyhoo...
I just got back from an exhausting leg workout. And the weather shot up to 90 today, but at least it's sunny. Oh... and the AC in the gym was broken, it was 85 in there. I had the squat rack all to myself. Although I didn't do any squats.. just deads. (& Lunges, leg press, extensions, calf raises)
Yesterday was cardio: Elliptical and rowing machine. ;)
Let's see... hmm... what else to say? I don't have any spicy-smoochiness going on in my journal. Dang. :p

Great work on the workout even without AC-I used to go to a gym with no AC EVER (although it was in Iowa) but it got HOT, especially since it was 3 floors and the top floor was where all the equipment was...I used to bring an extra shirt to change into!
Anyway, blabbering is over. Hope you have a lovely long weekend-any plans?!?!?

Yeah – sure… I was going to let this journal die. LOL… So much for that… I feel the need to plot some progress. <grin>
First off...We had a great 3-day weekend – Gosh… I wish I had more time off though. Saturday Hubs and I took the boys to see Over the Hedge. Hysterical movie!!!
Saturday’s workout: Once we got home we decided to do a little work out our tiny front yard. Removing our retaining wall of railroad ties. Those suckers are HEAVY. Run out to Home Depot and load up on cement retaining wall bricks & 50lb bags of sand. Go back home and start building wall. Oh and yeah…. It was a great workout. :D
Sunday: Beach time. Okay – I DID put on my bikini, but threw a tank top over it. I figured once I got there I’d take it off… um…. But only do-able if I were to lay flat on my back so I didn’t have any…um… “rollage”. :p Needless to say, we sat up and chatted the whole time so the tank never came off. After the beach we headed over to a BBQ and sat at their pool for a couple of hours. The worst part about all of this was that I totally forgot about sunscreen and I got fried. I’m so mad at myself… sunburns suck.
Monday was spend working on the back yard and more in the front. We cut down several trees too. I don’t even care that I didn’t make it to the gym.
Tuesday: Cardio
Wednesday: Upper Body workout…. Gosh my bench press is weak!!
Today: Spinning or rowing… not sure yet
Then…..
Friday: Pilates
Saturday: Legs
Oh yeah.... progress: I'm afraid to actually type it for fear that I'll jinx it, but I actually think my tummy pudge is slightly smaller. Could it be?? :p
Although Wednesday I had a scare when I put on my new sports bra and I could barely breath. Dang... Why is it so tight??? Oh... hmm... it was marked wrong... It wasn't a 38C, it was a 34C. Aha. :D All is good. I'll just give it away to my small, 5'4" friend... she'll be happy.
All for now...

Happy Friday!!!
I am so glad it's Friday! Lots of plans this weekend. :D
But first off.... yes - bench press is WEAK.. I tell you.... WEAK! :p I only got 2 sets of 6 @ 95#... I only say weak, because I remember warming up with 115#.. sheesh. Oh well... I'll get there again.
Yesterday spinning was awesome!! I dragged our receptionist over with me.... <evil grin> She thanked me later. :p
So tomorrow is sleeping in day!! Yay... well... sleeping in until 8am is all I ask. Did I mention that last Saturday we were startled awake with an incredible thud at 6:30am?? Oh yes... my neighbors decided to dismantle their 2 metal sheds with a sledge-hammer at 6:30am... What the....?!?!? This is the neighbor that's usually up at 4:30am. So you know she had to be just DYING for 6:30 to roll around... If I didn't like her, I'd probably do some yelling, but on the bright side, I was up early myself and got a lot done. :)
Anyway - we're going to a parade tomorrow. It's the Big Dog parade. :D As odd as that sounds, it's so much fun. My boys and I are big dog lovers.
After that, we'll hit the Y and I'll do legs while they play in the kid's gym.
Then it's home to finish the wall, then the pool to cool off. Oh and we get to pick up our TV that we've been without since March. yay!!!
Okay - I'm babbling..... bye!

Good Sunday Morning!
Hi Alecia! Good to be "back" - don't wanna jinx anything though... every time I say "I'm back" - I get distracted and journaling stops.
OH stop Barb.... puleez... you are SO STRONG... I wish I could squat and do deads as heavy as you. Someday... :D
Hi Megs.. I agree - I want to get my bench press back up. I miss having the young boys look scared when I put the big wheels on the bar. :p
Anyway - yesterday's leg workout was GREAT! We've got this funky heat-wave thing going on and I think sitting in the sun for a couple of hours before my workout wasn't such a good idea. I must admit that I spent most of my workout looking around for the nearest trash can in case I lost it. I did some extra lunges - smiling to myself the whole time... good music on my ipod, sweating, dying, feeling nauseous and feeling like my heart was about to bounce out of my chest. Oh yeah... it was good. :)
Okay - is it just me, or is there a higher occurance of people doing walking lunges? (It was in last month's Muscle & Fitness mag ...along with barbell rollouts) I used to be the only one doing them, now every time I work out I see 2-3 others doing them. Hmmm... good for them! Lunges are awesome.
My hubs is off working Mountain Patrol today so it's just the boys and me. :) We're going to do a little gardening and then hit the pool again. Did I mention it's hot here?? :p
I don't think I'll get a gym workout in today, but I'm sure we'll do something fun!

06-07-2006, 09:36 AM
Hiya!
Hmmm... Op. Bikini update: Okay - I know that most people would probably do this  when I talk about putting on my 2-piece... and I know it's totally ridiculous that I agonize over something like this. But oh well.
I actually put it on and ventured out to the pool with the boys on Sunday. My oldest is so funny... he looks at me and giggles. Then says: Mom.. that makes you look young! :D What a sweetie!
My workout on Monday was some serious cardio... I was on the elliptical and sticking a few intervals in there. Certain songs just get me going and help me push past the point where I want to gasp and die. :p I don't know how people work out reading magazines.
Yesterday was upper body workout. I benched 95# for the first 2 sets and then bumped it up to 115# for the last set. <sigh> I could only do 5 reps. I was ticked and needed a spot, but no one around so I grabbed the DBs and did some inclines. Still not where I want to be. :( Then I continued on with:
Pec Dec Flyes
One-arm DB rows
Lat Pull Down
Military press
side lat raises
BB Bicep Curs
Tri press down
Today is cardio again!
Thanks for popping in Kris, Megs and Alecia! :D

Had a good workout yesterday. More cardio. :D It was cardio workout with lots of variety.
10 min on the bike... hard ride, until a woman wearing stinky workout clothes grabbed the bike next to me and I couldn't breath without getting whiffs of very disturbing smells.
Moved to the rowing machine until an elliptical opened up. Hopped on that and did 10 minutes of HIIT... then moved to the treadmill for a cool down.
I've got to the point where I'm doing about 30 minutes of stretching a night too! Found that stretching is an incredible positive impact on my blood sugar, if I'm too high, stretching has it dropping pretty rapidly! :D
I have an appt with my neurologist today. My meds seemed to have stopped working so we're going to talk about changing them ~ and I have some pretty extreme nerve pains shooting down my left leg when I sit. After my little accident in Dec, the primary focus was my neck and arms. The fact that I couldn't walk or walk correctly after the accident was forgotten....but the neurologist remembered and was concerned. We'll see what he has to say about that.
Wish I could do this: http://www.squidoo.com/walkingwhileworking

Operation Bikini Update
Still progressing... slowly but surely... :p Okay... VERY slowly, but there is change, however slight, in a positive way. :D
Now if I could just get a tan, I'd feel better.
Workouts aren't very structured these days, but I'm getting them in. I had my nieces in town for a couple of weeks, they were fun! 12 & 14 years old and lots of fun. My boys followed them around like a couple of puppy dogs. We had fun at the beach, the pool, shopping....
Then it was up to Sacramento for 4 days, we timed it perfect so we would arrive there with the 105 degree heat. I'm lucky that way...
I will admit I was quite the piggy over the weekend. Lots of BBQ and restaurant eating - I'm trying to get back to my water and healthy eats this week. ;)
The appt with the neurologist was interesting... something's up, but he wasn't sure exactly what was wrong. I'm scheduled for another MRI tomorrow for my neck and lumbar area. If I could just avoid sitting, I'd be ecstatic!!! I'm sure it seems odd that I can work out and go nutz in the cardio room and have something *wrong* in my back. Guess I'll find out tomorrow as I meet with the neurologist following the MRI. I'll let you know what happens. :)
Today I'll do upper body and see if I can inch up on my bench at all... hopefully.

I really was going to let this journal die... (again) <grin>
Kris, Powells, Megin, Alecia - thanks for keeping tabs on me. :)
First things first.
I just got back from our first lake trip.
Mission accomplished :D I'm not sure if I'm more pleased with myself that I put on that 2 piece... or that I did it without a few shots of tequila first. I'm really happy that I didn't cave even though I didn't quite make it to my goal of "looking really good in it". I think I ended up with "looking okay in it". I will admit, my tummy still needs a tan, at least it's not stark white though. I'll be working on it next weekend at lake trip #2.
As far as working out, I haven't worked out in over a week. But I'm headed over to the gym in a few minutes. It's going to be cardio today. :)
About my Dr. appts. I had this fun little test called an EMG test - what fun. Let's stick a needle in her leg and have her flex! yeow!
Apparently there's some impairment being displayed so I go back to the neurosurgeon on Wednesday. Sheesh. BUT - I'm pretty happy because today I'm not having any pain. (that sounds weird - huh)
Allrighty then - I need to get my butt in gear and go work out!
I hope you all are having a SUNNY DAY! :D

Hi Arose... yep - looking forward to a serious tanned & brown middle. :p
I am planning on doing an upper body workout today. :) I can't wait.. it's been a while. I hardly worked out last week because of the 4th of July and then our trip to AZ.
Yesterday I rode my bike to work, I'm so glad it's summer and I can take advantage of the warm days AND the fact that my mom is retired finally and takes care of the boys. (yay!)
I'll ride my bike again tomorrow - it's such a nice ride, but I'm always trying to beat my previous time so it's definitely not a pretty sight when I get to work. LOL...my head is all sweaty from my helmet and then my hair looks crazy! Oh well... I'm glad I work somewhere that has a locker room and showers. :D
I just got back from my neurosurgeon appt. He looked over my MRI (& I got to see too - it was pretty cool) and determined that for now surgery is too extreme (whew!). I was flattered because he said there was no need to refer me out to PT because I was already pretty fit and was doing what I could on my own already. :o So... I'll be getting a cortisone epidural injection. Of course I'm nervous even though it's not scheduled yet. He laughed at me when he saw my face and said it wouldn't hurt >>> just don't look at the needle. HA! He said after the shot, I'd probably be pain-free for 4-5 weeks. hmmm.... guess I'll have to settle for that.
Okay - I'm off to get coffee!! I need some ZING! :p

Happy Tuesday!
Hi Arose... :o gosh thanks. I'm just really enjoying the summer time..even though this thing called work keeps interfering with my free time. :p
Yesterday I finally got around to doing legs again:
6 x 24 walking lunges (22.5# DBs)
3 x 8 leg press (only 430#)
3 x 8 seated hammy (110#)
3 x 15 seated calf raise (65#)
Then I wobbled out and back to my office. :D
This morning I rode my bike into work... weird thing is that I felt like I was so sluggish and my leggies felt pretty heavy, but then made my best time ever. (25 min) Go figure

Megin.... 25... LOL... um. yeah.
I had a great day yesterday AND a super workout too. ;)
My boys got me a Tinkerbell balloon & a bunch of hand-made birthday cards. Then, hubs AND the boys got me a new duffle bag filled with:
Nike sports bra, nike top, nike cropped workout pants and a big ol' tub of banana protein powder!!! oh yeah :D
Hubs also got me a dozen red roses, made me dinner AND did *most* of the dishes. Of course I had to step in and reload the dishwasher for optimum dish placement. :p
My parents came over too and brought my favorite carrot cake! (no nuts, no raisins, no pineapple) and FULL FAT thick cream cheese frosting. Chilled. ....no... I'm not picky... <grin>
It was a perfect day. Everyone I cared about was near me or called me and so I was quite happy!
As far as today, I had to go to another doc this morning to figure out how we're going to deal with my yucky low back issue. I'm scheduled for an epidural injection on Monday... blah. What caught me off guard was how much of a HOTTIE this doc is. LOL....
I probably left a big puddle of drool on his desk.
He had me do a few strength tests too. He told me I was the strongest girl he'd ever had in his office. I couldn't decide to be more excited about the fact that he noticed I was strong or the fact that he called me a girl. :p
Okay - I'm off to work out! See ya.

SB - You always delight me when you post. You should see the smile I get when I see a post from you (in here, in my journal or around the forums) I just like to know you are still around and surfing/lurking/occasionally posting... Its just nice to know you are around.
You are VERY special to me and this board - why else would we keep bumping your journal
:P

FRIDAY!!! <jumping up and down!>
Oh you girls... you all make me smile when I see you popping in here! :)
I know I mentioned pics, but I finally just found the camera with the summer pics and it's going to the drugstore today. I should have some pics by Monday.
Today was probably my last day to ride my bike to work for the summer. :( Beginning next week I'll be driving my kids to camp and then school starts the next week! DANG!!! where DID this summer go?
I have had such a fun time and my boys keep asking me why I don't get summer off... aw... I wish. We've hit the beach almost every weekend, at least the weekends we weren't at the lake. My cousin (who is one of my best friends) came out to visit from Texas for a week a couple of weeks ago. We had so much fun! My hubs, cousin and I went to go hear my hubs favorite singer. (Raul Malo. We keep teasing hubs now about his "man-crush" that he has on Raul. :p )
He was like a giddy teenage girl. It was HYSTERICAL. Of couse we all took a picture and I'm surprised hubs eve let me in it! (wow... I'm rambling)
Anyway - I know summer doesn't have to end just because school starts. Especially because the weather here will be nice through October. I'm also enjoying the liberating feeling of being a bare-bellied-2-piece-mama. <grin>
I'd post my leg workout, but it looks like every other leg workout I do. I need to switch it up, but when I keep getting sore, I keep thinking I should keep it until that doesn't happen. Bad or good?
Wednesday I did upper body. I switched over to DB from barbells for my bench press. Still week. <shaking head>
Incline DB 3 x 8 @ 42.5#
Pec Dec Flye 2 x 8 @ 40#
Lat Pull Down 3 x 8 @ 50# (weird machine...not usual cable/pin)
Shoulder DB Press 3 x 8 @ 30#
Side Lat Raise 3 x 8 @ 12.5# <grump>
DB Incline bicep curls 3 X 8 @ 25#
Barbell bi curls 3 x 8 @ 40#
Overhead tri rope extension 3 x 8 110#
Tri press down 3 x 8 @ 90#
The most I've ever bench pressed using DB's was when I used the 60# DBs. That was an easy 2 years ago. I can't believe I can't go near that anymore. I think my neck issue really set me back. I'd really like to get back to lifting those heavier weights.
But - did I mention that my tummy seems to be slowly shrinking?? SLOWLY being the key word, but it's very exciting! :D
Enjoy your Friday!!

Right...incline DB pressing 42.5 lb DBs is weak. I guess when you can press the 60 lb DBs ( ) then it is! Still...don't downplay your strength and that good workout.
:( to no more bike rides to work. That stinks! Tell the boys to walk to school. :p
Happy Monday!

Awh.. SB- you seemed to really love those bikes to work.
Thats alright though, you will still find time to get on your trusty steed (how can you not.. its just too much fun to ignore!)
Hope you are enjoying some family time with your hubs and boys - they are back to school now.. so they should have some great dinner time stories

Oh Kris... I wish they could walk to school. Unfortunately, we live about 3 miles away from the school. :( BUT... I was thinking that they could take the school bus so that may work.) Obviously...I'd love them to ride their bikes to school, but hubs is worried about the freaks on the bike path. I typically wouldn't give it a second thought, but since he's in law enforcement, he has a different outlook. Our bike path goes through some pretty remote areas.
Hi Megs... kids start school next week. Now I'm just trying to get everything organized so it's not so chaotic. But hubs goes out of town next week and then I go to Dallas the next week for a business trip. Lots of stuff going on... Also helping my mom throw my dad a 75th surprise party in 3 weeks.
Workouts are going good. :) Ironically after my Dr. appt last Thursday I was "given" the green light to start working out again. Umm.... "start?" I say. "You mean I wasn't supposed to be working out?" <gulp> Oh well... it's all good. :p
I was doing an upper/lower split, but changed back to push/pull/legs this week.
Monday was legs:
6 x 24 Walking lunges w/22.5# DBs
4 x 8 Leg press @ 540#
3 x 8 Leg extensions @ 100#
3 x 8 Seated Hammie curls @ 120#
3 x 15 Seated Calf Raises @ 80#
Tuesday: HIIT Cardio
Wednesday: Push (Chest, Shoulders, Tris) Kind of a "C-" workout. Ended up chatting with long-lost friend for a bit. Good to see her, but yucky workout.
Today: Cardio :D

 540 lb less press AND HIIT? How on earth did you manage that? You're nuts, Barb...:p
I hope that you've had a good weekend! Are the boys extra excited about heading back to school?

Tuesday's workout:
3 new exercises to mix things up a bit... also inspired by Kris and her overhead squats. :D
Overhead BB Squats
3 sets of 8 using only the bar. It will probably take me a little time to get a good feel for these. But I liked them!
DB Step Ups
3 sets of 12 (3 left + 3 right) with 22.5# DBs
Leg Press
8 @ 360#
8 @ 450#
8 @ 540#
8 @ 610# :)
Seated Leg extensions
3 x 8 @ 100#
Hamstring cable pull-through
8 @ 70#
8 @ 80#
8 @ 90# (I have no idea if this is a good weight or not  )
Seated Calf raises
3 x 12 @ 80#
Oh yeah.... I'm feeling it already. ;)
Hi Kris! Yep -boys went back to school yesterday and LOVE their teachers! Now to keep up with all the school lunches, homework, projects and can you believe the first fundraiser of the school starts on Thursday? Sheesh!

YAY for overhead squats! I love those things. They make me want to do snatches. :p I need an Olympic lifting coach to do that though.
VERY nice workout, Barb. :) Now when do we get to see an upperbody workout? ;) Is the bench increasing yet?

Great job on those overhead BB squats ... I think just living to tell about them is VICTORY!!! :p
Oh man, do I ever hear you on the back to school 'stuff' .. spent way too much time helping the 12 year old create word problems for powermath ... does the torture of word problems NEVER end?? ;) :D
Have a great day Barb! :)
