ive always been in good health and have gotten a couple blood tests over the years and have all come out normal. about 3 weeks ago i started taking creatine and something is wrong with my blood (doc said there was a buildup of something in my liver, don't remember the name). im not saying creatine absolutely did this to me but im wondering what affects would creatine have on a blood tests. also, if it has an affect should i continue using it?

It would be important to know exactly what your doctor found.

consuming more creatine means you'll have a higher than normal creatine kinase level. the thing is doctors use this as an indicator of certain problems.

your doctor should have asked you not to perform any strenous activity before the test as whether your on creatine or not - exercise can increase CK levels.

regardless of all this there is no evidence to suggest creatine is inherently bad for you.

hope this helps,

I use Creatine regularly and just had a blood test done last Wednesday (and the blood test wasn't performed because of my Creatine use).

Results were fine.

But I also drink on a normal day about 20-24 glasses of water.

If you are with me you will note the 32 oz. Nalgene water bottle with me wherever I go.

I make sure to drink plenty of water when on a Creatine Maintainence phase so that my Kidney's and Liver don't fill up with creatine that turns into creatinine.

A urine test should reveal the amount of creatinine that is cleared by your kidneys. Even bodybuilders who do not take supplements will show a slightly elevated level. However, this is only an assessment of kidney function. So, it might have been something else he was referring to if it was dealing with the liver. In a standard urine analysis, the two things that would usually indicate liver malfunction would be glucose or bilirubin.
