HI ALL
I’VE BEEN LURKING HERE FOR A WHILE NOW AND I’M IN A POSITION OF NEEDING TO COMPLETLEY OVERHAUL MY LIFESTYLE. I’VE BEEN “ACTIVE” MY WHOLE LIFE, PLAYING IN MANY SPORTS, MILITARY BACKGROUND AND A RUNNER FOR YRS. RECENTLY WITH A DIVORCE I’VE HAD TO ADJUST MY SCHEDULE AND MY ROUTINE HAS FALLEN TO THE BACKBURNER. I’M TRYING TO GET BACK ON TRACK….. SCHEDULE SEEMS TO BE MY BIGGEST DOWNFALL. BUT I ABSOLUTELY MISS MY WORKOUTS.
MY GOALS WITH THIS JOURNAL IS REALLY JUST TO KEEP ACCOUNTABLE TO “SOMEONE” AND HOPEFULLY THAT WILL HELP ME BUILD UP MY HEALTHY HABITS AGAIN. THERE IS ALSO SO MUCH TO LEARN FROM YOU LADIES AND I’M ANXIOUS FOR THE INPUT YOU CAN PROVIDE (I MAY GET FIRED IM ADDICTED TO THIS SITE) lol
I HAVE ALSO COMMITTED TO COMPETING IN AN ADVENTURE RACE (SPRINT AMATEUR STYLE) THIS SEPT AND I’M USING THAT AS A TRAINING GOAL. I HAVE MORE OF A RUNNERS BACKGROUND AND WEIGHTLIFT TO SUPPLEMENT THAT TRAINING. WITH THE ADVENTURE RACE IN MY FUTURE I’M HOPING TO BUILD MY ENDURANCE BACK UP. OVER ALL I REALLY NEED TO LOSE BODYFAT AND WANT TO INCREASE MY STRENGTH FOR THE RACE.
I JUST RECENTLY JOINED BACK UP WITH A GYM SO I SHOULD BE GETTING MY MEASUREMENTS AND STATS HERE SHORTLY. (I’D LOVE TO GET THAT EAT YOUR HEART OUT LOOK FOR MY EXHUSBAND ) HAHHAHA

I’M 28 YRS
5’ 1” APROX 140 LBS

MY GOAL !!! CONSISTENCY
SEEMS LIKE I CAN’T GET A PERFECT WEEK EVEN ONCE. I WILL HAVE MY SCHEDULE LINED UP AND MISS AT LEAST 1 WORKOUT A WEEK. NEVER FAILS.
I ONLY WORK EACH MUSCLE GROUP ONCE A WEEK AND THEN DO A DAY OF CIRCUIT TRAINING BECAUSE AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED I’VE BUILT MY ROUTINE AROUND MY RUNNING AND NOW NEED TO BUILD MY OVERALL STRENGTH.

I do have a few questions on the supplements people are adding to their diets?
1. what is with the flaxseed oil? Is this just to add "healthy fats" to your diet? Is this something we don't get enough of naturally? (fish nuts....)
2. when people are saying "scoop" of protein in oatmeal and stuff...is that just thrown in there? I don't like plain oatmeal so just checking to see how i can condition myself to eat it without adding sugar. I used to eat 1/2 cup oatmeal but i'd add a small can of diced peaches to it...but that syrup OH NO.

Wow, that all-caps is hard to read! I have to admit I skimmed it (I'll come back to read it through!), but I wanted to tell you, don't think about having a perfect week. Life happens, workouts are missed, and then you do that workout the next day. Take life one day at a time: Eat healthy for today. That's way easier to accomplish (and more rewarding!) than looking back at your entire week and criticizing the little details here and there.

Oh! I get way too excited about oatmeal questions...

I LOVE to put fresh or frozen fruit into my regular oatmeal. Strawberries, blueberries, cranberries, raspberries (ok, that's a luxury), or even raisons would work. I put the berries in with the dry oatmeal, and then pour the boiling water over everything so that it heats the fruit. You could also us a bit of splenda instead of sugar.

I don't use protein powder in oatmeal myself, but I suppose you could get vanilla flavoured, or strawberry, and mix that up in there. But I'd rather have the protein shake on the side, and my oatmeal seperate.

Me too! It was hard to read. Thanks for switching to lowercase!

Can you tell us more about your goals? If you want to gain muscle, then I'm not sure your cardio routine is optimal. The 3 mile run, and certainly the 8-10 mile run would actually be determinatal to it than helpful. Of course, it all depends on your goals!

Ahh, ha ha. Just went back and read your first post... I only skimmed it because it was such a mess.

Okay, now that I know your goals, nevermind about that running too much stuff. How many reps and sets are you doing?

The adventure race sounds interesting. Can you tell us a little more about it?

You only drink water? Wow. I hope to get to that point soon. Good job!

hi there! welcome sth =)

i add a scoop of vanilla protein powder to my oatmeal 'cause it helps the oatmeal taste better and also increases the protein count for the meal. it's a meal i look forward to everday, especially with peanut butter and banana =)

B
3 egg whites, low carb yogurt

apple with natural pb

i drink only water all day

you need to eat more than that. you also need more protein... how about upping the 3 eggwhites to 4? also are you in a run during the 2 snacks? it's better to spread your foods throughout the day. since you're eating more later in the day, it shows that you're not eating enough earlier that day.

Hey Ladies, sorry about the caps.....habit from my work applications. Unfortunately I sit at a computer all day.

Thanks so much for the input on the oatmeal too! I know i need the carbs in the am especially on the days i get to squeeze in my runs. Here's how it went this weekend. Not that great, but I'm happy with it for a weekend. It seems pretty easy for my to keep my diet in check during the week since I just sit at a desk all day. It's the weekends when I'm with my kids all day that I tend to stray.

FRI
i did end up playing on the men's soccer team Friday night (they needed a sub) that was the fastest soccer game I have played in about 15 yrs. Thought i would throw up...ughuggh but i scored!!

Sat

that has been a little bit of a trap lately LOL
but i had the other half of my protein shake and a side salad so i was proud of myself.

SUN

ran 6 miles (slow and easy)

B
protein shake, banana

S
1/2 cup oatmeal w/mashed bananas and sprinkle of cinnamon

So Aprilai suggested eating more in the day and questioned the two snacks in the am.
I was doing my runs during my lunch hour and my workouts in the evenings, but that has changed since my ex left. I prefer not to leave my kids in the gym daycare in the evening, when they have been in daycare all day. So my snacks were so I was "fueled" but not heavy. I hate running heavy. Since I'm trying to adapt to this new single mommy lifestyle I've been running in the mornings before work and then doing weights during my lunch hour. (another reason why I only work 1 muscle group a day, very short hour)
So I'll probably move my actual lunch up to one of those snacks and snack twice in the afternoon. Just to check things out. People at work say I eat all day anyways. LOL

The adventure race sounds interesting. Can you tell us a little more about it?

You only drink water? Wow. I hope to get to that point soon. Good job![/QUOTE]

The adventure race is a sprint distance which means the "average athlete" should be able to finish in 2-3 hrs. It's a combination of trail running, mountain biking and kayaking. You have a 2 man team, run 3-4 miles, ride 8-10 miles...then kayak a mile then run again. They will throw in mystery events which can just be some simple following directions examples...fireman's carry of your partner, or obstacle course. It's usually something small, but tests your alertness and teamwork after a couple of hours of running...LOL

I only drink water mainly cause i don't like anything else. I've tried a couple of green teas...nope...don't like reg tea, hate coffee...I have one crutch and that is Dr Pepper.. I've tried the diet version and other diet sodas and I just can't stand them. So I'm stuck on water. When I am tired of it I'll grab a diet tropical splash v8 and when i cheat it's definitely a DR Pepper.

So I'm still working on it, i just don't keep it in the house. LOL

Ok, I had a great vacation. I have to start this paragraph by reiterating that fact (even to myself) that it was awesome to see my family and I felt so good and refreshed just spending a couple of days with family and friends and the beach.

But now.....i've gained 8lbs? 8 WTH I mean I know that I honestly didn't eat 1 thing good all weekend, not one. Maybe a strawberry. But I didn't eat a lot either....I mean when i don't workout...i can usually just have like 2 meals a day. I did do a long run with my father just for old time's sake...and it was so nice to run for the sake of doing something for myself. To run along side him....talking laughing and remembering the good ol' days. but I didn't really workout at all. In fact my father joked that I messed up his routine. LOL

Also I got extremely sick on the drive home. I mean I pulled over and was vomitting every 45 min. It was awful. Made an 11 hour drive about 13.5 hrs. So i should have lost everything that day anyways. LOL

I'm just shocked and a little depressed. I'm just now getting back to work, routine and my kids are gone for the next couple of days (with their father) so I guess I'll try to double my workouts to sort of shake up my metabolism. I don't even want to look at myself right now though. I'm disgusted, depressed and honestly a little embarrassed. I guess that is 1 good thing about this journal....putting my mistakes out there for some accountability.

*** Also, I just started last week with 1st, 2nd date with this guy. 1st date in a year, and 1st date since my husband left.
This has me totally wiggin....I'm nervous and I feel so insecure with my body now. I mean once you are married 8 yrs you don't really see the physical flaws, what's a couple of pounds when you are comfortable with someone. This guy put his hand on my lower back as we were walking through a crowd, and i immediately freaked out thinking....oh no if he goes 1 inch to the right or left he'll feel the rolls i've developed. ***

I've been in sports my whole life and have lived a fit lifestyle mainly cause i just love it so much. I've never felt like it was "work" to keep up with it...and i certainly never watched the scale, or questioned my body....why am i sooo insecure?? and why do the numbers matter so much?? ughgughgh

I think you are eating way too little. Have you figured out what your calories are? undereating won't help you to lose weight any faster. In fact, it'll have just the opposite effect: your body will store the calories it gets as fat and will slow down your metabolism even more. Also, be sure to have a protein at every meal. www.fitday.com is a good resource for tracking your intake. Finally, take a look at the "Newbie with Questions" thread in the nutrition section of the women's forum for some good tips on diet.

03-24-2005, 11:09 AM
ok, i've had a few people tell me to add more calories. (thanks dbflgrl)
and honestly I just don't see how. I mean I'm never hungry...the 2 smaller meals i have in the day time I'm already adding because I know that I "need" them to properly fuel my body. I will admit I come from a history of thinking that you had to expend more calories then you take in to lose weight. As in, consume less+burn more=weight loss....and I'm probably conditioned to get by on smaller portions. For the most part I do eat more when I'm hungry. There are days after long runs or whatever that I just can't get enough food, and I try to fill that need. But on a daily basis I don't seem to be getting what is recommended as far as my cal count.
I have been adding an extra egg white here and there where i used to eat 2 or 3 i'll have 4-6....
I added oatmeal and usually an extra snack in the day. I just got into the protein shake lifestyle and they are soooo heavy and so filling. I'm using the Labrada Lean Body for her replacement shake right now...I'll try a new one when I kill that box.
I usually make it with 8oz water, and 8oz low carb milk, throw in a banana or frozen berries....I've added tofu or eggwhites to it also. But it is just too filling. When I make just the shake in water...too watery. LOL maybe I'm picky. But I'm trying these new things.

I do have a question, stupid question I'm sure...on the natural peanut butter. I did finally kill the peter pan habit and have gotten into the natural pb. When it separates while sitting, should i pour that oil out? or is that the good fat we've been trying to get? and just mix it back in. It's sooo runny...I can't get it to mix in and get any sort of consistency. I don't spread it now, i dip stuff in it cause it's so watery. (i keep dripping it on my keyboard) My kids won't eat it either cause it's so runny. any good brands you all recommend?

also....i did start using fitday. honestly it's sort of a pain....to add each item. but i just found the "recently added" foods button, so hopefully that will start appearing on my journal. How accurate is that site? I know everyone uses it, but i have days that won't even hit 700 cal and I just find that hard to believe. I feel like im eating all the time.
when are we supposed to measure our food? before or after cooking? I usually just figured the "deck of cards" saying for my meats....and tuna i just eat the whole package

ok......i sort of made that too long...so here are my questions

1. what ratio am i looking for when people are saying 40/30/30 and what is the order, as in carb/pro/fat, or fat/carb/pro....actually i know fat is the lesser one...but not the other two.

2. any good natural pb brands? do you mix in the oil that separates, or pour it out? I'm asking cause i've heard to do that with the watery stuff on top of yogurt.

3. when do you measure food servings, before or after cooking?

4. good protein recommendation?
im currently using Labrada Lean Body for her replacement shakes.

my fitday numbers for day 3-16 (posted diet above)
came out to 698 cal 26%fat/27%carb/47%pro
if that is correct then yeah...i should shoot myself

1. what ratio am i looking for when people are saying 40/30/30 and what is the order, as in carb/pro/fat, or fat/carb/pro....actually i know fat is the lesser one...but not the other two.

I always write it as protein/carb/fat but I am not sure there is a standard. In general, you want ~1g protein for each pound of bodyweight. So for you that would be 140g or 560 calories. Then add ~.3g fat per pound, for 42g fat, which is another 378 calories. The rest should be your carbs -- good, complex carbs like brown rice, yams, oatmeal, etc. I tend to eat in a ratio of roughly 35p/40c/25f but you will need to experiement and find what works for you. As a rough guideline, I'd say that protein shouldn't drop below 30%, carbs shouldn't go over 50% or under 30% and fat shouldn't exceed 30%. With the exception of your last meal in the evening, you should be having protein, carb and fat in your chosen ratios at every meal. Looks to me like you omit the carbs pretty often.

2. any good natural pb brands? do you mix in the oil that separates, or pour it out? I'm asking cause i've heard to do that with the watery stuff on top of yogurt.

I am currently using Maranatha Organic natural pb (Costco) and it is soooooo yummy. Mixes pretty easily too and stays mixed. Actually, even Smuckers Natural Peanut Butter, which is available in most supermarkets, stays mixed. I am not sure why you are having problems with this. When you first open it, there will be oil on top. Mix this in! It will take a bit and you will need to scrape the pb from the bottom of the jar to get it all evenly mixed (I use a knife, which is easier than a spoon). Then, after it's all thoroughly mixed, refrigerate it. I usually give it a quick remix the first couple of times I use it and then I leave it alone. It has never separated on me. Don't pour off the oil or you will end up with inedible grit. And don't pour the watery stuff off your yogurt, either -- that's the whey! Just mix it in.

3. when do you measure food servings, before or after cooking?

Fitday usually gives you options for entering either cooked or uncooked weights. As a rule, when a recipe calls for 6oz o something, it refers to the uncooked weight.

4. good protein recommendation?
im currently using Labrada Lean Body for her replacement shakes.

I use Optium Nutrition Natural Whey in chocolate. It is not a meal replacement, just a protein shake. I mix it with skim milk and have it post-workout. I wouldn't rely on shakes too much -- you are better off getting as much of your protein as possible from real food. A shake is a good idea pwo.

my fitday numbers for day 3-16 (posted diet above)
came out to 698 cal 26%fat/27%carb/47%pro
if that is correct then yeah...i should shoot myself

Nah, don't shoot yourself. But you do need to eat more. Fitday is reasonably accurate, i.e., it might have a slight variation (5% or less) from the label of what you are eating but it all evens out. If fitday says you are eating only 700 calories then either you aren't entering your foods right or you are eating way too little and this will definitely stall your weight loss and your muscle gain (which will further stall your weight loss).

Hope this helps!

ok....just wanna point out that I only have access to the internet at work. (yeah im not getting any work done since i'm addicted to this site)
So I'm trying to update my weekend meals on Mondays. This weekend is easy since I was SICK the whole time

I went out Thursday night with the new guy. We just went to Arby's, had the martha's vineyard salad.
I wasn't feeling great Thursday....but man.....I just got so sick......sick all night long. Which I had the same episode the weekend before on my road trip so I am thinkinig I wasn't completely over whatever stomach bug I had.
So I was so sick this guy takes me to the emergency room. (terrible for a umm 3rd date)

Friday stayed home and slept all day
I had water, about 1 cup of gatorade and an 8oz sprite

Saturday
1/2 cup oatmeal
water, 8 oz OJ
I had an eggo waffle with pb and 1/2 banana before my soccer games hoping to just get through, but i was still feeling awful..
I wasn't going to play but we needed 3 females and there were only 3 that showed up including me. So figured i'd hang back and not do much since I didn't feel well...but I'm too competitive for that. I felt ok for the 1st game but by the second game I was getting tired and a little light headed..so i just sort of hung around by the goal pretending to play defense..

Sunday
slept, water, slept, water, oatmeal, water, slept water......

Oh, I found your journal! Thanks for the reply in mine...I think we have some similar problems. I also have trouble getting enough cals in my day, currently I'm only at 1300 (and at 6 feet I think I get filled to about mid-thigh :) ) Some suggestions that have been given to me are almonds, avocados, PB--I get addicted easily though! I found that almonds are pretty expensive though so I bought a big bag of sunflower seeds and I add them to my salads...it is really good. I have been using fitday to keep track of my ratios and cals and it really helps to see what foods have an influence on your ratios. I also down a couple scoops of protein a day, its a great way to add a couple hundred cals not to mention protein!

Sorry to hear you've been so sick lately! When I started my new "clean" eating I threw up that night and I talked to a trainer about it and he said that the same things happen to him when he changes his diet drastically...maybe that has a part in it? Either way, throwing up sucks!

Arose thanks for the shout out...i hadn't heard anything about a diet change making you sick. That in itself is interesting. I mean I know if go all out on junk food i feel sick. My diet hasn't really changed much...but when you mentioned that i realized that my spring break trip was a total diet disaster, so maybe that was enough to make me ill??? hmmm

Eat more! You are going to make yourself sick with this caloric intake!

Wannabe........thanks I'm trying to increase my calories. I never realized I was eating so little since I'm eating all the time, and never hungry. I am new at this and just now getting with fitday to see my numbers as a starting point so i can adjust them as necessary. This was the 1st time i hit over 1000 cal in like a month. Maybe I will today since I'm actually hungry. So maybe my body is finally catching on. Yay!! I was just trying to make sure that i added the "right" stuff.

I just started on my protein and that is 155 cal a scoop so there's some. heheh

Great job on the 1000 cals, keep going up-you can do it! Last week I was hitting about 1200 and now today I think I'm going to hit at least 1400-1500...its pretty exciting how your body adapts to it, when you start eating more you are going to feel awesome! I already have more energy and I can definitely attribute it to the extra cals...honestly, I haven't eaten this much (outside of a binge week) consistently in years. Kinda scary but I feel really good now. I'm not going to weigh myself for a while just because people have told me I may increase a few pounds before they start coming off so I'm just going to be patient. I know you can increase your cals too, taifighter gave me a good plan-increase about 100-200 cals per day each week until you hit a good number for you...lots of people suggest 1800 and up. Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!

SORRY I HAVEN'T WRITEN IN AWHILE. BUT I READ THROUGH YOUR JOURNAL AND WANTED TO COMMENT A BIT MORE.

Just teasing you about the all caps! ;)

You definitely need to eat more! I know you've heard that from others, but it can't be stressed enough. If you don't eat properly, your body will go into starvation mode, which means storing fat and feeding on muscle = stringy, non-musclar girl! No no no! Enjoy your food throughout the day, and I suspect this will help with your recently illnesses, too. I would feel sick, too, if I ate only 1000 cals! I'm 5'4", 110 lbs and I eat over 2000 cals a day and am maintaining my weight (so I'm actually going to up my cals a little to gain muscle). Oh, and to add that right now for exercise I'm doing weightlifting only for no more than an hour 5 days a week.

Great to hear that you're back in the dating scene. How's it going with that guy? I'm sure he wasn't thinking about any possible 'back fat' when he put his hand on your back. :) Good for you for taking a negative experience (divorce) and turning it into a positive life change (getting fit!!).

I'm excited to continue to watch your progress.

I'm so proud of myself... i felt hungry yesterday and my cal went up. So that's good.

VERY GOOD! Keep eating! You'll find that you will want to eat more as you work harder. You've got to fuel those workouts.

You should do cardio last, lift first. You probably won't be able to run the stairs after that, but you will have gotten a much better workout from the lifting

Still not enough food! You can definitely eat more. Add some oats into your first meal, if you can. And more egg whites :) I mix mine all up and make a big pancake. You could still eat the banana, just slice it up on top of the pancake. Also, you are eating the PB before a workout. You shouldn't eat fats before a workout. Instead, have a fast absorbing protein like a whey shake and the rice cake before your workout. And eat some veggies! They make you pretty ;)

thanks for all the input and encouragment ladies!!

MSJewels, thanks for coming back

Thanks for the input, I am seriously working on my calories it's been enforced so many times now.
The divorce actually had a backwards effect on me. LOL my ex was the best workout partner ever. He is so dedicated it's scary in fact within the last yr of our marriage i think he honestly took working out to an unhealthy obsession. It became a problem in our schedule, with our kids routine/diet and well obviously with us. But that's where all my weight gain came from. I've been able to maintain approx 115-120 lbs for the last 5 yrs (after military life) and the month he left my schedule was just upside down.
I have no one to watch the kids so I can't run as much as i did or get in those extra workouts.
Plus my children were obviously torn up about it and we spent some nights together playing at the park, instead at the gym with them in the gym daycare. WE are all adapting now and that's why I'm trying to get back into this hardcore....who gains 20 lbs in a yr and a half..ughgughgh

I talked to my kids last month and said.......look you used to be in the gym daycare once a week and we are going to go back to that schedule. My son said "yeah I was kind of wondering when you were going to get back into that" LOL from the mouths of babes I tell ya!!

anyhoo...new guy is nice...taking it slow. He's my son's coach so I see him 3 times a week anyways. LOL LIke i said i saw the BB.com shirt and though...oh yeah I'm hooked.

WannaBe...I promise I'm trying :) thank you for the ideas to bring it up. I'm feeling better so we'll see if the appetite comes back as well.

let me clarify on the stuff with my ex, cause it sounds like I have an aversion to working out compared to him.
my bday.........lets go out to dinner, no, im going to the gym
he would call in sick to work to get a 2nd workout that day
my daughter tried to use her easy bake oven for him and he'd have her in tears because it was bad for her, and certainly wasn't on HIS cheat day. He is 6ft 2 and has a very lean build...can't really bulk up much. He was about 180lb 2 yrs ago...then got into the lowcarb lifestyle (too much imo) and he is a very pathetic looking 130 right now. I mean he looks like he has a terminal illness. Like I said, unhealthy obsession that interfered with raising our family.
Anyhoo....we had a perfect routine....days i went to the gym in the AM he took them to school and vice versa. afternoon workouts were reversed as well so the kids were only in the gym daycare 1 day a week. Now I just can't squeeze in the same amt of gym time as I used to. So i'm using the crappy gym at work, and the few weights i have at home. but i am building my home gym as well. We still agree we want the kids to grow up with a healthy, active lifestyle so i gotta live the example. They are the 1st to tell on me to Daddy if I don't cook a healthy meal for them. LOL

Becca...please eat more! :( Aren't you exhausted on these calories?

Meal one needs some complex carbs
Get rid of the fats in meal 2, add some complex carbs. You need those preworkout. The four egg whites are fine.
Meal 3 is better, but you should add complex carbs
Eat some veggies with that fish and take some fish oil at that time also
The grilled chicken breast meal looks good! I'd take fish oil there, too
You need a meal 6 before bed. I recommend fat free cottage cheese and almonds or peanut butter or casein protein.

You should check out some other journals. Helene's, mine, April's. All of these have good nutrition information. I just don't want you to get sick. I'll help you, if you want...I just don't want to be bossy and force anything on you. I apologize if I have...

Wannabe...thanks for your quick responses and I don't think you are bossy at all. I'm just glad to be learning from everyone here. Also, I'm cutting back on my cardio for a while. I discussed it with my father (my workout hero) lol...he's the only person that I know personally that has lived a healthy lifestyle for ummmm at least 40 yrs.
anyways...he's done a few endurance events and thinks my endurance is definitely where it should be and advised concentrating on my strength. The stronger I am the more i can endure down the road anyways. In theory...
The adventure race I'm doing is Sep 10th so i'll build through summer for strength and maybe 6 weeks out do full body workouts to maintain and hit the LSD again for my race.

it's like the go ahead to run less.....hehehe in the beginning of my journal everyone seemed to question the amt i was running anyways...so it seems to fit.

Oh yea, and GREAT job on 800 cals so far today-you are doing so well!!! I hit 1700 yesterday and it made me a tad nervous, it may be psychological today but I feel fat and pudgy (or, as my husband likes to say, "touchy"). Anyway, you did awesome and I'm proud of you-I know how tough it is!!

Of course, breakfast is my huge meal...lunch & dinner are puny by comparison. :-p

Hey Becca, why don't you try yogurt and protein powder? That's not hugely filling but it's nutritious and very tasty, it might be a good way to add in more calories. :-)

I forgot to tell you guys
I cheated last night………..i don’t know just how bad it is for me though.

One of the guys here hunts a lot and always brings me deer meat. So last night I had deer sausage, it’s homemade from the leg mostly of the deer, so he said it’s really lean meat. Cheese and jalepeno’s in it
I had 2 slices with about 8 ritz crackers………it was awesome but I know it was bad
im thinkin that would put me hella close to 1800 calories for yesterday though....so I'm happy with that

ok......I never realized I wasn't eating enough carbs. I'm just trying to eat more...and then of course up the protein..and then when to eat it (around the workouts) it was just so much to adjust. LOL
never even really realized i keep cutting carbs. LOL i just assumed there are some in everything anways.
so game plan is more complex/low gi carbs especially before i workout.........
got it
need to buy some efa's too i guess. That's another thing that i guess we just don't get enough of in our daily diet? is that pretty much why we are taking it? I mean I know what they are for...but also thought this didn't need to be added.......any thoughts ladies??

sthpadregrl, that is so awesome about your son's game!!! 8 points is a TON to score for kids his age-and just in the second half??!! You have the next Michael Jordan on your hands! I love watching kids play ball-it has to be one of the cutest things...except when the refs suck!!!! That elbow trick should get the job done next time someone messes with him and I think you should call the league-losing a tooth is a big deal!

Congrats on the cals and I don't think your cheat was bad at all!! Deer meat is great for you and I wouldn't worry about the cheese and crackers-probably not something to have everyday but this was a special treat! Good job on eating it and getting up your cals.

I've read a tiny bit about efa's and I have come to the conclusion that you should include them in your diet as "healthy fats". I think there may have also been a few studies on how they help decrease bf but I read that in the "losing fat" forum and I don't know the sources they used for that info. I think many people use them and they are beneficial with little side effects if any. I am going to start them in a couple weeks too!!

I just read about your son's game in arose's journal. Great story! (I have an 8 year-old boy too, so I can relate - althought he's pretty non-competitive, he still likes to play ball.) Congrats on his 8 pts!

My hubs also hunts and we have a freezer full of deer meat and elk meat. The deer sausage is so yummy. Although I'm not a big fan of plain deer met, but the ELK.... (drool) I love it! It's also pretty lean. Good stuff!

Anyway - I enjoy reading your journal :D

I'm sort of hurting today though.......another day of lunch with friends...ughgugh

ok, so I had a friend take pics of me today. Thinking it would motivate me, have a benchmark so I can actually "see" progress. Instead I started crying. I have never weighed this much in my life. It's shocking. I can't remember the last time I've even been in a picture. I'm always the one taking them....It's like I don't even recognize myself and I gained it all so quickly?? Some days I feel strong and I'll talk to someone and say........"oh i ONLY ran 5 miles today" and i take comfort in the fact that I can just go out on any given day and do that. I feel healthy and strong for just doing it.........but maybe I got complacent as well......I mean I was 9 months pregnant and was only 8 pounds more than i am right now. Anyhoo...i wanted the pics on April 1st. Figured I would take them every month...but man i didn't realize the blow I would take to see them

Ok, so I had a moment on Friday...what can I say. LOL I guess I needed to be shocked. I really don't have anything to report
I didn't do the fitday numbers for the weekend but i wrote down everthing I ate. (i only have internet access on during the week)

Friday 4-1
am, did 20 min on treadmill
abs/triceps at home

Meal 1
Labrada MRP for her

Meal 2
1 c oatmeal, mashed banana and cinnamon

Meal 3
smoked chicken, green beans, and some deer chili (food day at work)
I was so proud of myself for staying away from the 3 kinds of desserts

Meal 4
grilled chicken, stuffed red pepper with brown rice, brocolli and carrots

Friday night played a out 12 min of soccer on men's league

****** here is where it gets ugly ******* I don't workout much on weekends, so it seems I tend to eat less too...but I'm working on that

4-2
Meal 1
5 eggwhites, 1 egg omelette with peppers, onions and mushrooms

Meal 2
whole wheat pita with turkey, spinach, romaine, peppers, tomatoes some shredded cheese

Meal 3
gortons grilled fish and grilled peppers and pineapple

played 3 soccer games Sat night.......OMG what a workout...what was I thinking.

Meal 4 about 11pm after the soccer games...went out with the new guy ate whole wheat pancakes with banana's and strawberries. (not really sure on the nutrition content)

4-3
Meal 1
5 eggwhites, 1 egg scrambled on whole wheat toast grilled turkey breast

Meal 2
4 eggwhites and 1/2 c oatmeal w/banana

ran 5 miles

Meal 3
grilled chicken soft tacos, 2 w/spinach, romaine, peppers, tomatoes, shredded cheese

Meal 4
grilled chicken, salad, 1/4 c brown rice with green beans, corn mixed in
peppers and pineapple medley

I broke down and around 6 pm (before meal 4) had a dr pepper....I just love them when I'm cleaning house. Bad habit that I'm working on

Hey! Sorry I didn't see that friday post until today!! If you feel healthy and can run "ONLY" 5 miles, you are doing fabulous! Pictures always get me a little anxious too, I usually tower over everyone and therefore look like a giant :) In a month you are going to look even more killer than you do now and you are going to be happy that you took those pics!

Glad to hear you are doing better now, how'd the soccer game go? Seems like it was a great workout!! The "new guy" sounds very interesting also, hope things are working out there.

Good job on staying away from the desserts at work and keep it up, you're doing great!

ughgugh.....I forgot my lunch bag at home. I'm living off of what is stashed in my desk. Which is usually pretty good...but no eggwhites...man i'm just so pissed at myself. LOL

I made such an effort to plan my meals for the next 2 days too...guhguggh

arose.......thanks for stopping in. I'm glad I was able to get out of my "downer" on Friday......having a good weekend with the kids is always good for that.

The games were great. I played a few minutes on Friday night on a men's league...didn't really do anyting impressive there

My son played his SAT afternoon...and he scored a goal...YAY!!! first for the season for his team

I had a double header on Sat night and we won both games. Only 2-0 and 2-1
It's funny it's this indoor league and more for "fun" then competitive play...competitive is for Friday nights......LOL
but man it seems like the other teams are getting a lot better. We have to work so much harder for our goals. LOL translation==== I ran my A** off...
It's fun though......"the guy" is on my team and was going to stay for the next game...and they needed a female player so I changed shirts and played a 3rd game. I was just subbing so it wasn't too painful...definitely still a workout though.

Then we went out to eat. It was fun.........brought up a new question though on dating etiquette???? Maybe i'll post in the relationship area......but

Hey Becca-

That could seem weird, but you can look at it in many ways. When I read it, I read it as him being polite. Honestly, men that I've recently dated sometimes expect me to pay for them because of what they assume I make. I've noticed that many men have become spoiled and expect a woman to cater to them. A man who offers to pay and knows how to be a gentleman is a rare find. Just because he offers does not mean that you have to accept, though the offer is what a respectful man would do. I think you should appreciate it, even if you decide to pay! :) Oh yea, and the fact that he doesn't mind going out to dinner with your sweaty self and your kids is VERY cool.

Becca, I totally agree with WannaBeModel. He was very nice in doing that, maybe next time you can suggest you all go out and then you can pay for a quick bite. It might make you feel uncomfy now but I really think he was just being polite. Some guys don't know now days if they should always pay or if they should let women pay...it's probably pretty confusing for them so just go with it and next time treat him :)

Man I went to the gym during my lunch hour like always..........and I have no clue what happened. Half of my building must have been in there. I was so annoyed. I just have this weight room at work, it's sufficient. about 6 treadmills, 6 eliptical machines.....a few bikes.....has an aerobics room with enough steps to do step ups and what not........1 smith machine...(that sorta sucks cause you have to fight the the men for it) but there's a complete nautilus ckt and a pretty decent amt of dumbbells. When there are only 10 people in there or so it's pretty good. Plus I've been going to lunch at the same time for at least 2 yrs now....I know those same 10 people. We always see an increase in people around Jan-Mar for new years resolutions.....but man it was jam packed today. It was so annoying.
anyways...........
i completely had to modify my workout and I had to wait for a shower.

So ran 3 miles......(pissed the whole time)
and just did pushups and was able to do some incline db presses and flyes...real quick 2 sets each

Hey girl - I HATE when the gym is too busy. But if that's the case, ask to work in with people, and bring a towel to sit on (so you're not sitting in some greasy guy's sweat pile - shudder!). Most people will understand. It's an effective way to get your whole workout in. They do one set, you do one set while they stretch/rest, and repeat! Bring your headphones so that the loads of people don't start to chat you up, and you're set!

Took kids to school, and then went back to bed……

Meal 1
Got up around 10 and had a protein shake

Ran 3 miles to the gym
Worked biceps, shoulders
Ran 3 miles back home
(figured I better get the workout in before I went to work LOL)

Meal 2
protein shake w/ banana

Meal 3
Chicken salad thing……..
This was sooo good. Leftover smoked chicken, grape tomatoes, avocado, grilled peppers and pineapple, cucumbers and carrots. It was like all the salad stuff without the lettuce……..man this was good

Meal 4
Lonestar….7 oz steak and salad (couldn’t eat anything else cause my lunch was at 4pm) LOL

First I want to thank you for the advice on running.. I did my 2nd day yesterday..

How many kids do you have and more power to you for working out and being a single mom!!!

Its tough for me to find time to workout sometimes with my 2 boys 6 & 8

I have noticed lately that if I eat something fried/high in fat... I get sick too!!

Good luck with the date!

Keep up the good work!!!

Thanks again..

Im absoulutely in love with your journal. Its a wonderful read and very warm and inviting. Must be just like you :>. Welcome and Hello. Your home life resembles the state Im soon too be in, so its nice to learn from experience. I dont like re-creating the wheel, if you know what I mean. I havent posted because the mentor you have here are wonderful women that Ive had the pleasure of reading and seem to know their STUFF. I hope in the future I can help in anyway. Divorce seems to be my obvious future, and my boy and girl are strong, but Ill take any words of wisdom available to support them. Have a great rest of the day, and well be both looking over our shoulders, Im sure my co-staff thinks I get paid to do this!

I was really intersted in your journal as well...i noticed our similarities also. I have to kids, son 8...angel, daughter 6 the devil herself.....she definitely keeps me busy

she came home the other day from school......
"mommy am i allowed to say the word bi aatch?" and she totally drew out that A in there too...
I was like, "oh no don't even think you can try that" went into my spill on how it's inappropriate language yada yada yada.
So she says......"well in that case I have a note from the teacher"

It was like she was waiting to see my answer before she was going to give me the note.

It is hard with 2 kids though...trying to get the schedule down more than anything else. LOL

I'm interested in your bowflex LOL....i've wanted to buy one for about 3 yrs now...just saving. The treadmill I have was given to me and I use it pretty regularly.
Glad to see you are running. I started it in high school (to get in shape for my other sports) but it seems like the only thing i've been able to keep up with into my adult life. Somethign to do for myself....ALONE. LOL

I've taken my kids on fun runs now....and they really enjoy it. So that might be something for you to try down the road with them also.

I am so inspired by all the moms on this site - It's tough enough to fit exercising into the daily routine for me right now - I can't imagine how you women find the time with running your kids around and such. :) So give yourself an extra pat on the back!

I'm truly sorry to hear about your situation. Everyone has an opinion it seems. My parents/family hated my ex probably after our 1st yr of marriage and were so happy when he left. It was very difficult to lean on my family that I am usually so close to. IT was like they were dancing on my grave or something.....I was sitting here thinking..."Hey people that was my marriage that I was working on...stop being happy for me."
In some odd way I guess the cliche is true though...dont' stay together for the kids. My kids have adjusted really well now. They have had their moments (but heck so have I) and we just start over again. The best thing for them was to keep them in as close of a schedule and lifestyle that they were used to. My daycare and friends have helped a lot. (we don't have any family in this city)
my ex actually moved out of state so they don't see him nearly as much as we would like. It's by no means Ideal....
anyhow...if you wanna pm me sometime I'm on quite a bit during the day. LOL I'm still learning and adjusting myself. Sometimes the kids have the simplest of questions...like does Daddy know how to do laundry??.......and sometimes they are very profound. Just be honest with them. They will need to learn how to trust again and that seems to be the key.

So I was talking to someone in the gym (between sets i swear ;)
and we were discussing diet and I realized that I've been trying to add calories to my diet, but I really don't know what to aim for.
Since I'm not stressing my endurance anymore (that will be this summer) I am doing less cardio, but I really need to cut my bodyfat.
So I was wondering..........

should I aim to build muscle, then cut weight
or aim to cut weight, then build from that point?

Seems like it would be easier to build muscle, so you have that strength there already once it's time to cut weight. But overall i just hate being fat and I'm tempted to "cut" calories again.......
so went to this site (found it somewhere on one of these threads)

http://michaelandkendra.com/BMRCALC/bmrcalc.htm

with that my BMR is 1413 (i left the 55% protein ratio in there)
and it says to aim to lose 1lb a week.....1400-1690 cal
overall I don't think I'm that far off from that.........i mean, on the days i eat more like i've been trying......on average I don't even hit 1200 cal....
so Im technically still going to add....just wanted someone to review this and see if I'm looking at this the right way.........
or if i should jsut go to the "bulking" cal count and look to cut later??

any thoughts ?

04-06-2005, 04:49 PM
Hey, I posted a similar question when I started my journal-as you know i was eating way small cals too. Terracotta said that I should work on getting cals up for about a month (as high as I can-I'm aiming for 1800 at least now) and to lift heavy and do the regular workout. Then after a month decide if I want to cut or bulk. I think that you can both cut fat and gain muscle at the same time, even though others will probably strongly disagree. I am not looking to get into competition so I am a little more lax on the cutting/bulking thing. I am just going to keep working on my 1800 cals and then mid-April reevaluate and probably just add some HIIT and another cardio session to my week while still tweaking my diet. I don't want to drop cals though because as soon as I see pounds come off with dropped cals I go right back to my old thinking and want to eat 800 cals/day again. I would rather up cardio and "reshape" what I have more so than lose weight. I think you need more of a muscle base if you want to cut. Maybe bulking for at least 3-5 months before a cut. Just my 2 cents though, I'm sure more experienced ladies will have some great suggestions for you...good luck and let us know what you do!

Thanks Arose...we really seem to be on the same sheet of music here. I'm thinking I still need to eat more and give my body time to adapt before I do any more changes. Plus I'd rather go into my race this summer, strong and a little heavy then twiggy.......(rolls eyes) like i can get twiggy. LOL

so I'll keep upping my cals for now till i get a good base and see how efficient my body becomes. Yesterday was hard though. I just wasn't hungry.

yeah, its pretty nice that we have the same goals and are confused about some of the same things ;) I don't think your carbs were too high yesterday! I think they were right on. If you are concerned about that maybe you could add a couple scoops of whey and then your ratios for carbs would be lower because of the added protein....AND cals!!!! Keep it up though, that body of yours won't be able to run very fast without fuel! Good luck!

sthpadregrl - (Wow - that's a toughie to type! What does it mean?)
You need to bulk and build muscle before you can cut. Otherwise you'll end up with a smaller version of your current body - instead of a more defined, muscular, strong, sculpted (and yes, smaller) physique.

I'm a bad girl.......I'm not hungry today. I am soooo tired that I'm not anything today. I just hit my head on the keyboard at my desk cause I'm falling asleep. This is not my typical ehh lethargic thing.......I'm dead. I haven't slept well for like 4 days either.
it's almost 1pm and I've had 2 eggwhites and an orange......maybe 20 oz of water, i usually have 60 oz by now.

I don't know what's wrong with me, i can't get out of it today. I have some appts to do during lunch so I didn't even bring my workout clothes (knowing i couldn't go to the gym)
i'm trying to see if these are connected. Do I already know my day is ruined? Is it mental? How odd??

oh and i forgot to add a cheat I had last night. Between my last 2 meals I went to the movies with that new guy (let's call him coach)
we split a one of those soft salted pretzels.......OOHHH I love those. So I kept making him have some so I would'nt eat the whole thing alone. At least he only drinks water. That's a plus

and on the paying thing..........I got there before he did, so i bought the movie tkts since it was my idea.
So he offered me money and I was like whatever....you got me last time. He said "well i'll get our snacks then." I had already scratched the idea of even buying any cause I was trying to be good. So we agreed on the pretzel and water. I felt much more comfortable with this arrangement...sort of half/half thing I'm so new at this. I was with my ex since I was 16, so I've never really had a "single" life.

To quote my trainer (and many others): You have to get big to get small. You won't be 'skinny', but you'll be cut. Does that make sense? When I think skinny I think models - Who often have horrible looking, no calf legs (*shudder*). You'll be shapely and sexy - WAY more attractive.

OMG ok.......this new job I have is really really really stupid. I'm in the telecom world and was a maintenance tech for 3 yrs, install tech for 2.......
so I get "reorg'd" into this new group...and for the most part we are just a call center.....you know answer phones take the complaint type scenario.
we log into our phones, use a code for lunch, breaks and personal...personal being restroom hitting the microwave stuff like that

well my manager just brought it to my attention that i must be using the restroom every hour. He said that "someone" felt i was on my Personal code too much and started watching me......and yes i just run to the ladies room and back really quick, but almost every hour. So I need to work on that.
HMMM since when was it illegal to pee??
and who the hell is babysitting me??

I'm just really irritated. I'm not used to this type of micromanagement. In mntc we were so stessed and so busy the mgr's just left the techs alone. We got the job done and that was all that mattered.
Anyhow........i told him he could move me closer to the bathroom and i could probably pee in under a minute, or i could quit drinking lots of water and start smoking and be outside for 20 min every hour. (damn smokers)

the really dumb thing is that we are seriously slow. I mean I can sit for nearly 40 min just waiting for a call. So it's not like ti's affecting my work (this site might be :)
but not my potty breaks..........come on NAZI's

A couple sat down and within 2 min requested to be moved to another table. So I told my kids (hoping the other kids would hear).......you guys need to behave that couple just asked to be moved because you are interrupting their dinner.........
my daughter stands on the booth and looks right at that couple and says......."well I don't want to sit next to you either.....your smoke is affecting me and ruing my dinner"

All and all it was a good weekend. I finally made some protein pancakes (didn't really get anyone's recipe just threw stuff together)
used oat flour, wheat flour, protein, eggwhites and splash of lowcarb milk and cinnamon.

the cool thing is that my kids LOVED em too. I mean really loved them. I might have to keep an eye on them. LOL
It was so funny too. My son had a soccer game Saturday and he was so pumped up. He told "coach" I had protein and oatmeal about an hour ago...I'm hydrated. I'm scoring today!!

I bought the oat flour to finally make those protein bars....that will be this week sometime.

Hmm - My ears were ringing! ;)

I'm glad you're trying out the protein bar recipe! I love them, and it's such an easy treat to take for snacks. I don't even use the oat flour - I've just been adding more oats instead. Watch the water - if you add too much, they'll be really sticky.

BTW, your daughter is SO funny for mentioning how the smoker stunk. I'd have been proud, too. I can't wait to have kids and have my own stories to tell. My husband was quite the little character as a child (many stores shared by my in-laws), so I'm sure my kids will be espeically mischevious! lol!

Yesterday was ok, not enough food like always. I also didn't do my chest workout, I ran outside instead. It was just sooo beautiful out it was calling me. I know I shouldn't deviate from my planned workouts too much (cause I never seem to get back to them) but I haven't really been running lately either.

here goes
Meal 1
oatmeal w/protein, diced peaches

Meal 2
rice cake w/peanut butter, apple

ran 3.5 miles
moderate intervals

Meal 3
grilled chicken breast cut up into 1/2 yam....friend brought this for me, so that was cool. small side salad

Meal 4
just ate 2 quick gortons grilled fish fillets

does yard work count as physical activity at all. LOL

I worked on my yard for nearly 3 hours yesterday. ughgughhg....but it's done and now the upkeep should be easy.

Hi! its okay to deviate from your workouts once in a while...I sure have been!! Especially if it makes you mentally healthy then I'm all for that rather than knowing you want to be outside but having to workout in the stuffy gym!

Mmmmmm, did i hear someone say brownies???????????????!!!

Okay, so I know its hard to increase cals but if I can do it, you can do it! It gets much easier after you've done it because you get more hungry for good, clean foods. Like last week, I got about 1800 cals 2-3 days out of the week. The other days were about 1300-1400 (maybe one under 1000....BAD!) And the past two days I have gotten at least 1800, and you know what, I am losing weight!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it!! I am starting to see an outline of some sort of "ab" also! You will feel sooooooo good when you get more cals, I can't say it enough. I have so much more energy and i can get through my day so much easier. I know you can stomach at least a couple more protein shakes at first, then move up to real food. YOU WILL NEVER TURN BACK! hahahaha!

Yard work for 3 hours, wow, that is a great workout and I bet you did get some of those deadlifts in there ;) Have a good one!

omg, I can't stop laughing after that post in my journal!!!! A popsicle in PB??????????!!!!!!!! that is the funniest thing I've heard all day...ohhhhhh, my stomach hurts from laughing! (and cowokers are looking at me funny) That sounds like something I would do, good logic-"if its a strawberry popsicle, maybe it'll taste like PB and J." HA! That is so great, we definitely think alike ;)

Ok.......I know that it was only a couple of hours ago I said that I wouldn't deviate from my workout plan too much....but I can't help it.

There is a 10k this Sat morning. I'm soooo signing up. It's one of the prettiest races...beginning of spring run right outside of town and just a nice soft rolling hills kind of run. Huge crowd, good sponsors one of my favorites to run every year........it like brings in the running season...come summer there is a race every weekend anyways. It just sort of snuck up on me though. I was talking to my girlfriend about the "aquarium" she is taking her kids to, and i said, yeah they have this awesome race...yada yada yada...looked it up online and it's this weekend. So I was complaining about how I wans't really planning on it (not prepared) and she just chimed in that i could do it anyways.......run for fun, not times...and that she would babysit. I CAN NEVER EVER get a babysitter that easily so I took her up on it.

So........since I skipped my chest routine yesterday I'll do that today instead of legs (stay off my legs this week)
WED
slow easy run approx 4 miles, work abs

THURS
I'll work back/bi's together

Friday
just light elliptical and extra stretching....

Sat
10k race

soccer game at night.........

SUN
shoulders/triceps

I should be able to pull this off, and only skip my leg routine once.

How long you think it will take me to run a small race?

Have a great day!!

I was doing ok yesterday on food...probably not enough...but then ended up at a pizza place with the kids soccer team.........ughguh what happened to our steak night? usually i do so well at those places, just have tons of salad and maybe 1 small tiny slice of pizza.........but noooo i think i ate more then the whole team of 8 yrs olds combined.

MEAL 1
2/3 c oatmeal w/protein and mashed banana

Meal 2
small grapefruit, 5 eggwhites

lunch workout chest
bench press 3x
push ups to failure
incline press 2x
push ups to failure
incline db press 2x

incline flyes 3x

Meal 3
1/2 cup yam, red pepper, and salmon patty.
(wasn't sure how to add the patty to fitday, so said 1 c cooked salmon)
made patty with
canned salmon, 2 eggwhites, wheat germ, dill and garlic pepper

Meal 4
2 big servings of salad and about 4 slices of pizza

ya know......maybe I haven't waited long enough to see results. I am sure that I haven't. But you know........just 1 pound, 1 inch...that's all i ask. Just something to say.....ok my body is responding. BUT NO NOTHING

I really need to get onto the people at my gym to get my bodyfat tested. everytime i am there...they don't have someone "qualified" to do it... I'm gonna get a girlfriend to take my measurements tomorrow. At least to get a better starting point...cause the scale is pissing me off. LOL

i know to look for my clothes fitting and inches, not just the numbers on the scale....but I can't help but think that my efforts are pointless. Do I still need to eat more??? I'm so full I feel like throwing up half the time. My meals 1-3 are pretty much just running through each other cause it takes me so long to eat the 1st ones.

sorry for my rant

I am getting stronger though........I worked back today (great workout)
and did the assisted pullups with only 60lbs help...and i did the lat pulldown with 80lbs, for 9 reps on my last set.........so I am happy with that. I have to admit

I know how you feel about looking for those changes.... I've heard it all:

Go by how your clothes fit
Measure
Take pics

ugh....! I've thought at times I must be the exception, or some wild mutant - I rarely see any changes (grrr).

BUT :D I will admit I can always count on seeing improvement in my strength which is sometimes the only thing I've got going. So I feel for you.

Congrats on your assisted pull-ups and your lat pull-downs. You're strong!

Hi becca! First time poster, long time reader ;)
haha but seriously I wanted to pop in because I can completely commiserate on how you're feeling lately. I've been focusing all my attention on building muscle and its going great...but I keep getting sucked into the mentality that I need to "look" a certain way now...like I should be totally cut with muscles popping out. And I get bummed because I feel like appearance-wise, I'm not making much progress.

it was so great to read your post about getting stronger, it definetly reminded me that I AM making progress and seeing results, and I just gotta be patient and the rest will fall into place eventually.

thanks for a great post :)

Ok, you already know this becca but you GOTTA eat more!!! A rice cake with PB is NOT a meal!! Try some oatmeal, or a protein shake with that peanut butter. I find its harder for me to get in calories when I'm on higher protein, low carbs, but sneak in a few extra servings of nuts, tuna, chicken or protein powder. You gotta keep that metabolism firing!!!! :D

Ok I swear I am really trying to add more food. But I feel sick all day cause i'm just eating nonstop. I moved my oatmeal meal 1, to meal 3 today (to have the carbs before my workout) and I threw up in the gym. How sad is that. I felt fine afterwards........and I'm eating now. I'm just too full, too heavy. I'm really trying to manipulate this. I only did 1 mile on the treadmill as a warm up, super slow was chillin......but i felt it in my throat the whole time. I had been working my biceps for about 10 min before I got sick. I just went back to working out cause I felt ok....I just can't figure out how to eat and when.........ughgugh I was trying to add like 100-200 cal a day...i might go to just add that much a week.......get used to it, then add some more the next week. I'm not even hungry but im eating now. And I'm thinking....I have soccer practice and have to eat again. IT's a chore.......I HAVE TO eat.

this is my day so far.

Meal 1
Protein shake w/half banana (I just got Isopure dutch choc it's sooo good and mixes really well...not all chunky and chalky)

Meal 2
7oz tuna, 3 eggwhites, 10 almonds

Meal 3
2/3 c oatmeal, w/protein, 2 strawberries and cinnamon (this was sooo good) I had this about 1 hr before I went to the gym

worked biceps
1 mile warm up

ez bar curl 3x
incline sup curl 3x

mmmmm, throwing up is NO GOOD!! I am so sorry to hear you are having trouble keeping it all down...glad you feel better now though :) A couple thoughts-maybe you could just eat the whole banana in the morning instead of half, add more than 10 almonds to meal 2, and add more brown rice than "a little".

Since your fat is way low, try adding more PB, nuts, seeds, etc to add cals and increase fat. Good luck, you can do it!!

Ohhh no. :-(

I wish you guys had my appetite...all yall complaining about keeping your calories UP when I'm sitting here wondering how to keep my calories DOWN.

I second the vote for more peanut butter. It's nice & dense.

Try this, it's good...my mom makes it whenever I'm sick, it's the ultimate comfort food:

CHICKEN "STEWP"

1 pound chicken breasts
Diced onion
2 packets basmati rice w/ saffron seasoning (in the rice aisle, little yellow tubes, I forget the company)
1 family size can of low-sodium chicken broth
1 tbsp tarragon
Carrots & Celery & potatoes & whatnot if you like

Cut the chicken into chunks, roll in flour and pepper, and brown in a pot with the onion. Once the chicken is white all the way through, add the broth & the veggies and rice. You may need to add more water to keep the consistency soupy. Cover & simmer until the rice is done. Add the tarragon close to the end. You may want to add some karo syrup or flour to thicken it. I like the consistency to be pretty thick myself, but some people don't.

Hope you're having a good day, feeling better, and eating more!
Sunny

ok, just catching up from the past weekend..........I'm not going to do my diet for the last couple of days cuase I was too lazy to put them in fitday. It wans't anything out of the ordinary, so not too bad. But I did have 3 gatorades I believe on Sat...which usually I just stick to water for my hydration but after that 10k I was hurting. LOL

there is a whole new stresser in my life that I've recently added. I decided to move. It's somethign I have thought about for a couple of months now but held out for a few different reasons. I am just renting a two bdrm house right now....and going to a 2 bdr apt. So I'm really just trying to downsize. Streamline my budget so to speak. My ex just told me approx 2 weeks ago that he wasn't going to take the kids for the summer (I was already pissed about this for a while) so I figured now is the time to move, my daycare is going to go up...and at least i get to trade in the yard work for a pool.

long story short those are my main reasons. I will only save maybe $100 a mth so it's not so much that it's a huge difference financially it will just be less for me to maintain over all...........and IT HAS A DISHWASER. I've been in the stoneage in a home without one. LOL

So I gave my landlord my 30 days...and put my deposit down, big day is May 7th..............UGHGUGHGHH now i get to pack. I hate that part ;)
I told my kids what they don't clean up and pack themselves I am throwing away.......hopefully that will motivate them to help me. Their only concern was going to to the same school and daycare. LOL

I forgot to elaborate on my race
******** it was so much fun **************

I did ok...nothing too spectacular, but I haven't run anything over 4 miles in a couple of months. So I was very happy to run 6. I ran 54 min, so approx 9 min mile. I actually placed 8th in my age group. (not that ti means anything but it's sort of cool to see the newspaper clipping) It's sick when I can't wait till I'm 30 so i can be in the next age bracket. LOL or legally play soccer on the "over 30" team.

IT was a very busy Saturday. Like I said, I ate great...but had 3 gatorades.

Meal 1
1 protein pancake, OJ
Meal 2
1 protein pancake, banana, 6 eggwhites
Meal 3
protein shake with strawberries

son's soccer tournament (i was coaching so running up and down the field for 4 games)

Meal 4
grilled chicken, salad
Meal 5
turkey loaf, salad and grilled veggies
Meal 6
oatmeal w/protein, strawberries

played 2 soccer games (legs were soooo weak) but end of season for me

I did great though.........kept up with my workouts...no running at all. I was still "tender" from the race. I always get shinsplints when I switch terrain. LIke the treadmill to the street, or outdoor to the treadmill. So just RICE right!

I'm not doing to well on my packing either. LOL I was all gung-ho the 1st weekend. Now it's like..........ughguhgg. And my upcoming month is getting ugly..........

Sunny.....you can relate to this.
My older sister CPT for ADA/Patriot.......takes command June 20th.......i get vacation
then it's May 20th. ok this is my last day in my house....no biggie can get there....move vacation. Mind you this is a big deal for my family because she takes command of this unit they are going to Korea for good. SHe will go for 2 yrs (she's already done 2 yrs there) So my family made it a big deal to be there for the COC ceremony since it will be the last time we are all together for a while (my little sister is on orders to Japan for 3 yrs)
sooooo
yesterday she calls.....stressed out and mad cause we all have plane tkts, and now they moved her COC to May 11th. In the middle of my move...and well I just won't be able to go. Long story short....my little sister can't go and my Father can't go............something always happens there is always at least 1 person that can't be at our family get togethers. So that really upset me...........we are still jumping through hoops to see what we can do.

Ok ladies...I will admit. I'm sinking. I didn't work out yesterday because i went to the hospital to see a friend. I've been cleaning and repacking the garage. The earliest I have been to bed in about 5 days is 3 am and I am officially in "battle fatigue" mode. My eyes burn, I can't see straight or complete an educated sentence for that matter. I went to bed at 10pm last night and just tossed and turned and eventually got pissed off because I coudln't sleep. So back to the garage at 1 am to pack some more. I have some appts and errands to do during my lunch hour so i won't workout today either. I might squeeze in some ckt training during my kids soccer practice tonight if I can manage it.

Hey girl, you will do fine through all this, you won't get off track, and you'll be back into it in no time. Don't worry about a week here or there...some say you should really take a week off every 8-12 weeks to let your body relax and that you should eat at maintanence or above for that week. You will come back so recharged then! So don't worry, you'll be great---you have sooooo much to worry about and do right now. Workout when you can, go out to eat but try to eat clean, don't stress about it because it sounds like you have enough stress right now!!! Good luck, we're looking out for ya! :)

How's the packing going? I just finished catching up with your journal. (I probably really should do some actual work here today) Anyhoo... isn't moving a pain? Last time we moved I just keep thinking "dang... and why do I have so much *stuff*?

Back to your mom...I actually had my mom call me with a similar concern: "You know hon.. I've been reading and *they say* that eating after 7pm is what causes you to get fat and makes it hard to lose weight - I think I'll try that"

"um mom...? I don't think it's the food you eat after 7pm... I think it's all the food you're eating BEFORE 7pm that may be causing problems" hee-hee

I love my mom..

Hope you have a great weekend!

My mom is convinced that I'm going to start taking steroids! lol! She's so cute. She's been reading about eating more protein and healthy food choices - Basically just taking an interest in everything that I'm getting into... Aw, why am I so emotional today? My eyes are tearing up as I'm writing this!!! Weird... moving is so stressul, and I'm feeling the effects of it, too, becca! Anyway, having support is great, and isn't it nice to know that she's keeping her eye out for info that might be helpful to you? :)

I'll be thinking of you tonight while I move my own boxes from house to house! :) Good luck! (BETTER luck!)

im so frustrated because i can't get a workout in.......I can't figure out any slack in my schedule....really i am finally moving friday/sat this weekend so it should be fine by next week. but my mother is stressing me out. LOL
that woman wants to eat out every meal. I have also offically worked myself into an insomnia spell. I'm going to sleep at 1 am, tossing till 330 or so and getting up at 530-6
it's killing me. I completely gave up last week because the worrying about working out was bugging me more than just not doing it. So I figured...ok i'll take a week off of that, besdies all the moving furniture and packing and yard work was enough. :)
but here i am on Tuesday of this week, and the weather is gorgeous I finally have a lunch hour again (we were swamped at work last week) so what do i do.........i go run outside. LOL i know i know........too much cardio. But it's sooo beautiful it relaxes me.
so I've decided i'm going to run everyday this week and not lift for another week. I know in some way it's counterproductive but this is sooo much better for my mental state. LOL so i keep justifying it at least.

Hey, you know that mental well-being is just as important if not more important than physical well-being. Do what you need to do right now and then hop right back on starting Monday next week. By then, you'll be all moved in (hopefully) and maybe you can cook for your mom! Then you can make a schedule and run with it. (no pun intended ;) ) Good luck, great job not eating that Baked potato-man, I love those things!! Especially with all the goodies on em! Ha, have a great day! :)

Meal 1
1/2 cup oatmeal w/protein, 1/2 mashed banana
Meal 2
wheat rice cake w/pb and other half of mashed banana
Meal 3
tuna and 4 eggwhites
ran 3.5 miles
Meal 4
grilled chicken breast (had melted cheese on it not sure how bad that is, but it was different and good) small salad
Meal 5
7oz sirloin steak, steamed veggie medley, grilled shrimp and salad (yep my typical steakhouse dinner on tuesday nights)
Meal 6
protein shake
(I'm actually really proud of getting that last shake in there, still trying to increase my calories even though in the background my mom is stressing that i am soooo overweight, eating "protein" God help me....and eating so many meals in a day)
It's funny...........cause my father (the marathon man) is just cracking up saying.......yeah you never did listen to her...but you are doing the same thing I do and she acts like I haven't tried to explain it to her for years. LOL

Also...
since I finally made it back to the gym Monday figured i'd weigh myself and that was bad. LOL

I'm up to 144 now........I know I have increased my calories (not enough, but still working on that) and that for 2 weeks my workouts haven't been consistent. But 4 pounds.........come on. I was stuck on this plateau for like 3 mths...that's why i started this journal. Cause I couldn't get under 140. So I'm disappointed to say the least....but I know this has been a rough 2 weeks to even judge. It's just that my weight doens't fluctuate. I don't have water weight issues around "that time" or anything like that. What i weigh is always very consistent for me. So this is a solid 4 pounds heavier...not a mistake not a fluke. so it scares me....I know this is there........it just really better not be there to stay ya know what I mean.........ughgugh

YAY!!!!

I'm done moving. It went terrible too. All of the friends I had that were committed to showing up Sat, didn't. So that's interesting in itself. I carried just about everything I own by myself up a flight of stairs, including the tv that i was really scared of dropping. (it's the nicest thing I own)
Whats funny is I really thought my legs would be sore from all the lifting and walking up stairs....but just my hands hurt. That's all. My grip i guess. My fingers were sore but nothing else. I mean i was exhausted and weak...I couldn't even open a bottle of gatorade by saturday night..........but i wasn't sore. part of me was thinking......damn im strong. LOL bastards didn't show up (LOL) I'm just getting organized now...trying to figure out how to put my kids back together...but they love camping out in the living room with me.

She's going to Korea in a couple of months, and my little sister will be in Japan for 3 yrs. Her husband is going to Iraq in 2 months....so there is a lot of moving going on in my family...so it was a blessing to see EVERYONE.

nuff said....i splurged all weekend long, but didn't gain any weight (odd) still 145....but im sooo gung ho now so that is cool.

Hey becca, I just read your post in the "what men think of my muscles" or something thread. I am so sorry that happened to you. That man should be put to rest! Good for you for getting out of the relationship. I can't imagine the emotions that would have come up and how your self-esteem was affected. You are very strong and you are right, men are attracted to confidence...and you got it! You deserve a man that treats you well and I hope you are still seeing this soccer guy (he seemed very nice :))...we haven't heard about him!! Good for you and your self-confidence!!!!! Be proud of how far you've come.

Let me tell you girl.......I don't know what my problem is. I've pretty much chalked it up to "their" problem. there is no fight...no arguement no idea as to why things go the way they do............but i am in a rut. Every guy I start "talking" to....yeah stops dead in their tracks in 1 month. 1 month.....i swear there is a running poll on me at work now. You could set a watch to it....1 month
(I work with all men) and they all say i am the coolest most perfect chick........but can't keep a guy interested in me for more than 1 month..........it's a fluke im sure. Hey there becca,

I also read your "man and muscles" post and I felt so bad for you. Once again I'm stumped by how mean and cruel and CONTROLLING men can be, ugh... I am SO glad you're out of that situation. :o

I have a friend who has the same 4-week-phenomenon going on... It's crazy! She dates them for about a month and then they just disappear! This friend is smart, funny, sweet and has got her head screwed on straight...(unlike some of my other friends :p) and men just disappear.
I keep telling her if I was a single guy I'd date her in a heartbeat :D

For some reason it works out though these last 2 guys sorta overlapped, then the coach just stopped talking to me outta no where....and then i met this guy. So we will see. i completly click with this guy though. He is just FUN that is all I can think of to describe him. LOL (well and a hottie) I'm a little nervous that i am giddy over this. But time will tell.

i've been doing really well even though I haven't posted. My ex was in town this past mem weekend so of course...........we ate absolutely perfectly. I got to run every morning (was babysitting a dog) and worked out every night. It was just the jolt I needed.

Hey guys.........interesting situation here I'd like some opinions on

there is a guy i work with, dont know him super well just in the same dept. He's been working towards a photography degree for um...2 yrs i think and has asked me many times to pose for him. I always declined. Here we are 2 yrs later and many people at work have used him for photos, weddings...kids...sporting events...family stuff.....
so he asked me again because he needs to submit photos for a latina competition, needs a hispanic female to model. I did view the syllabus for his class and the criteria for the competition......seems legit so I'm gonna go ahead and do it.
NEXT WEEK SATURDAY...........I'm freaking out though cause of course like all women........i wanna lose weight :( in a week, which i know is not possible to be done in any good manner.........
anyways just wanted to let you guys know what was going on cause I'm doing nothing but cardio for the next week.
maybe it will jump start my metabolism who knows......:)

Wow that sounds kinda fun!! What kind of shots are you gong to do?

sthpadregrl
06-03-2005, 01:40 PM
hahah that was my question........

he needs poses indoor and out
in sundress
casual skirt
denim
trendy make up (i was told this is the magazine scary kind)
athletic (why he chose me, i liked that comment)
wind blown hair (everyone at work said i was good for this since i don't brush my hair......punks)
draped fabric
and a lingerie shot
a 2 piece lingerie shot
and 2 w/ "implied" nudity.......
I'm also doing a whole segment of topless back shots. That one was easy cause i love my back :) those lat pulldowns are helping.....
that's for his class, not for his competition

the last 4 poses were why i always turned this guy down........
i told him i would do all the others and see how we felt for the last 4.......
truth is i love lingerie........i got so addicted i started selling it. ahhaha
so I figured I'm sure i can dig up flattering, tasteful stuff......just depends how comfortable I am with it at that time. He agreed.

i get all the proofs and pics for free.......what weirds me out is... this competition he enrolled in is in NY so his professor here sees the pics, and they send them to NY but im thinking........where do they go. I want to know where my pictures will end up???

Well, if you have bruises from that jackass they can usually cover em up, and you have a few days so hopefully they'll be more yellow by saturday rather than black/blue. And you said you were going to have to wear tons of makeup so I'm sure it won't be a problem-definitely a nuisance though.

Are you going to press charges against this guy????? This just gets my blood boiling.

Hi! mmmm, that Magic Bullet sounds delightful!!! I am getting so into that cooking stuff now that I can actually put things together in the kitchen and have them taste alright!! Diet is looking better yet!!! Can you add some carbs to breakfast, I believe this will cut off your cortisol levels that increased overnight....cortisol is BAD!!! LOL! Maybe some oats in that shake or even "happy cookies" mmmmm, protein pancakes???

Anyhoo, workout looks great! Are you doing a 5 day split?

06-07-2005, 02:45 PM
ok......i know I need more cals, and more carbs..........but I was trying to cut a little for the pictures this saturday. I know it's wrong, and that I won't technically make any substantial gains...or anythign that i can possibly maintain. But i figured even 3 pounds would look better in a picture........and I'm down that 3 already. 140 today during lunch...........140 was the plateau I've been stuck on umm for like 6 mths.........so if i can break that i'm happy even if it is temp, hell it's some movement.
It's sorta neat though.......having something to train for again (only 1 week though)
speaking of which, my buddy the one i was doing the adventure race with this summer, he rode his bike off a cliff (so to speak) break his leg....so we are out for this sept. he wanted to try and race anyways, but i think he's crazy..............so that is disappointing

Hey ladies.......what's the proper way to measure myself?
flexed, unflexed...and around where.........

from everyone's post I'm thinking
forearm
bicep (flexed?)
chest (around where?)
waist
thigh (where?)
hips (where)

i was supposed to go to the gym tonight (starting to workout in the evenings m, w) and im sooo looking forward to it.......but im sooo dead too.

Hi, sorry to hear you feel sick :( For measurements I think most people measure where the largest part is of each bodypart. Like the top of the thigh, bicep (both flexed and unflexed), chest, and hips. The only place I measure the smallest part is my waist. I do that just because those are the places I KNOW I want smaller LOL! Then I can see easily where I measured last time to make it accurate.

That's terrible about your friend breaking his leg!!!! Oh no!!

I think your cals look pretty respectable still, you know you need more though. I think a lot of modeling is all about confidence so if this is REALLY important to you I think you should do whatever you want to (as long as it's healthy ;)) to increase your confidence before the shoot.

If you are feeling sick, you may want to skip the gym....but if you can push through it go ahead, it may clear out your lungs a tad (that's probably a myth but I find I feel better if I do cardio, not weights, when I am sick).

Good job at fuddrucker's!!!!

well overall it's not that this is REALLY important, i'm by no means a model. I just think it woudl be fun, and wouldn't mind looking my best for it. But that also means, no bags under my eyes and sick yellow skin or something cause im exhausted (sick) or starving..........so i'm just doing those little cuts. It's saturday so really, almost there anyways

i'm going to take my measurements so i have a better way of tracking my results...and i'll start using fitday again. LOL im just lazy thought it was a pain in the ass....but i guess i can't manipulate my numbers if i don't know them. I think I might be eating more than i think I am so i am looking forward to seeing the improvements there

Ok, this is it. Finally got my starting measurements. The only good thing about these numbers is that there is plenty of room for improvement. I still dont' really know if I'm measuring in the right places, but figured as long as i do it the same place every time it will be OK.

06-13-2005, 10:38 AM
Hey ladies......good weekend for the most part. I didn't work out at all though. so that is very bad. I played 3 soccer games and was totally worn out from them, but can't really count that either.
ate great.....
and did the photo session thing on Saturday. It was OK, nothing spectacular and honestly I don't know how well they came out. I saw a few of them and wasn't too impressed. LOL the 2 photographers were thrilled though......so maybe I just don't have that trained eye, or don't know what they were looking for. If anythign it was an eye opener for me.........sheesh...all i could see were rolls, and soft love handles and tons of stuff i dont want to see anymore.......so I am all gung ho again.......LOL My daughter is sick and at a friends house today, so i have to work through my lunch and take her to the dr today, which means no workout in lunch or tonight.........I guess i'll have to get up early and make up for it.

I did have a Dr Pepper on Saturday (with some 151 in it) lol to loosen up a bit and that was BAD.........i forgot how much I LOVE dr pepper.....thing is i haven't had any in so long......it was almost too sweet for me...so hopefully I won't like them anymore

You okay?????!!! That is terrible, I'm so sorry....bummer, those things shake me up sooooo bad.

Are you going to be able to keep any of the pics from your photo shoot?? And who exactly is this new guy?? Lots in common? Sounds like you had fun :) And meals yesterday looked great!!!!!! Good job becs, keep up the great work. Hope you're alright after that accident...even the littlest bump can mean some injury so take care of yourself :)

sthpadregrl

am
ran stairs
Meal 1 protein shake

had my car accident here.....pretty much jacked up the rest of my day. Sorry ladies but i would have to chalk up yesterday as one of the worst days ever. last night i walked with my kids to a dollar store to buy water balloons which were needed for the daycare........lost my keys at some point. i think they slipped out of my pocket while running across the street, that is the only thing i can think of.

sooooo...wrecked my car. it's not totalled, insurance is covering it and the collision center is letting me pay my deductible over 3 mos no interest. So that is taken care of, i guess. got a girlfriend letting me borrow her extra car. and the martial arts guy totally offered so much stuff to me yesterday. Ride to work, borrow the car....pick up dinner since i was stressed. so that was neat to see his reaction.
I hate sounding like the dumb girl that can't drive or something, that stereotype....LOL but i have never wrecked or even had a tkt before in my life. so i didnt know what to do

some fo the guys i work with are all really sweet. like brothers or something....like im the little sister on the team
anyways
1 picked me up from the accident and went with me to do all the paperwork
another when i got to my desk had a dr pepper and popsicle waiting for me (my vice) and
another guy bought me flowers on his lunch hour
so it was great to see how my friends were trying to take care of me...........tooo nice

but obviously my diet and workouts were shot to hell
there is 1 guy i've been meeting at the gym on mon and wed (just another runner) and i couldn't meet him last night, no ride......
so i will try to get back on track as soon as possible

sthpadregrl
06-16-2005, 01:52 PM
Arose......... you wont believe this. Some how the guy lost just about all of my pics on his computer. He was working on them (touching up or whatever else) during a storm and lost power......he said he had a few that he already printed out....but not "links" i have 2 but i'm not putting them on here....LOL

this new guy is the martial arts guy I told you about. We are going on 6 weeks this week. I know it's silly but considering the last guys didn't talk to me after a month......i just find it funny. He keeps saying it's my fault and i need to be more consistent with my self defense classes.......i keep saying if i could bat my eyes and get a discount on the class from the instructor maybe i would........

arose70
06-17-2005, 06:21 AM
LOL! Bat your eyes, I bet! That's great Becs, he sounds like a nice guy...and you broke the month curse :p!

That is really sweet about the guys at work too-I love having guy friends like that, they just really know how to pick you up in your worst moments, and then make fun of you the next (oh, wait, that make fun part applies to me ;))

I can't believe that about the pics, really, that is terrible! Glad the other two were great ;)

Don't worry about the workout or nutrition the past couple days, sounds like you had a few more important things to keep in mind---like not getting into any more car accidents! Glad you're okay, have a great day and weekend!!! :)

Thank you so much for checking on me shortsteph........
everything seems to be in order for my car finally....now I'm just getting back to routine. LOL seems like I'm always getting back to it......my kids are going out of town this wednesday for approx 3 weeks........I plan on completly devoting myself to the gym 1...no babysitting trouble and 2..i'll need to keep myself busy so i dont go crazy missing them....

i ate decently this weekend, nothing prefect, but nothing too bad..i dont think i eat enough on weekends?

i did play 6 soccer games between sat-sun....tournament. So that was pretty good........my legs still feel like jello....

update you later........

arose70
06-20-2005, 11:25 AM
The next three weeks sound like heaven...besides missing your kids of course! That'll be a great time to get back on track, figure out some new meal ideas.........go out with the martial arts guy ;)

6 soccer games this weekend!!!!! Whoa! You better be eating enough with that schedule!!!! Becs, I am losing weight and looking thinner than I ever have and I'm eating like a pig!! Today will hit 1900 at least, and honestly, it is keeping me sane through my week o' hell :D YOU CAN DO THIS! I know it's scary and it will be for a few weeks but once you get into a routine things just start to click with nutrition. (Of course, weekends are ALWAYS so hard for me too-getting out of my work day certainly takes its toll ;)) Have you put your stuff into fitday yet? Should I stop harassing you about that???!!!! LOL! Go at your own pace Becs, but just make sure to go! SO glad to hear everything is going better with the car and life in general.

You're doin great!

arose you are so damn encouraging........yes i got back into fitday...but i started it today...455 cals so far.....not good :(
i made a dozen protein pancakes for this weekend and the guys on my team ate them all........so I ended up with granola bars and gatorade on saturday.
My daughter actually got after one of the guys....she said, "ummm my mom made those to be strong for her game....boys aren't allowed to score, so don't eat her food, she needs it"
I was amazed she even paid enough attention to the game to know only women score on the coed teams. LOL but it was precious........I tell ya my kids take care of me

i had a great chest workout today.....i love it I could barely hold my gallon water jug hehehe i love that feeling

Restaurant, eh??!!! Did you happen to be accompanied by a certain guy thank can throw some mean martial arts moves?????!!!

It's okay about the cals, seriously, now that you have a starting point that is great! You can just build from here. I know you know what you need to do...100-200 cals more for a week, then increase on that for a week, etc till you hit at least maybe 1600?? And more for your soccer games-you tell your daughter she better not let those guys take all your protein pancakes!! Ratios look great too for a start! You could start by stopping all this 1/2 stuff like eat a whole banana for meal 1, meal 2 add another piece of fruit and eat the whole baked potato later. This would be perfect to start out for this first week or two. You can do it! Good luck :)

i'm just gonna start typing all topics directly to you......i think you are the only person reading my journal. which is probably a good thing right now since it's a lot more griping, then bb'ing.

i did see your comments on the scar...how do you get retin-a?? i thought that was prescription only. I've used mederma before so i'll probably start on that because i was pretty impressed with that on my c-section scar

i would soooo love to go to NO.........see I'm new to this whole single life...and I was married at 19...I feel like there is a lot of partying I have never done and now i have to make up for some lost time. :) i can go manizing with Kris...hehe I'm all about the manizing

the restaurant meal was with my parents....last night in town and they took my babies sniff sniff yesterday was my 1st night alone and it was already TOO quiet. not used to that.

I have so many questions.

Last couple of weeks while doing cardio, running and stairmaster....my feet were going numb. sort of like falling asleep with out the tingling part. It's odd, not really painful but very uncomfortable. they go back to normal after 20 min or so after i quit running. But it's totally freaking me out...i've been running since high school and have never felt this before. I know my shoes are in good condition, aren't too tight i even tried loosening them up to see if that was it.....is this circulation, blood sugar or something?? i am anemic but that is the only health concern i have

any thoughts?

Becs! I am SO PROUD OF YOU! Great cals! The ratios can really depend on anything. Lots of people do 50p/30c/20f or 40/40/20.

As far as your feet, I get that when I do elliptical and everyone told me it was normal and that I should just push through. Not sure about just straight running though...I don't think it's something to be hugely concerned with but keep an eye on it. I'm no expert though-I know Briar is in her last year of physiotherapy so she may know a thing or two. Good luck and great #s again!

Hey guys........
so as mentioned before most of my siblings are military. My little sister is 3 hrs away from me. Her husband is doing an NCO of the year board.........which apparently he won in San Antonio...so the commander calls her out of no where and tells her she should be down there with him. (which she originally asked to take leave for and was denied)
anwyays...so she calls me to see if i can babysit for her Sat-Tues (I was already going over there this weekend anyways to see her/niece and babysit cause she had to do emergency clinics all weekend)

anyways........I love my niece she is the funniest happiest, best dispositioned baby...and was already planning on watching her this weekend anyways.

but i was seriously pissed......my initial thought was great, there goes my workout for 4 straight days, when my kids are gone and i can finally go hardcore here........ i feel so selfish..
I mean i dind't tell her that, and i certainly didn't hesitate. THey are being station in Japan next for 3 years and I won't even see them. right now I am the closest family member so really i get to see her more than anyone else in my family. I LOVE IT....just feel guilty that i even looked at it like that........

i guess i'll be doing crunches and push ups with a 1 yr old climbing on me
so.......... have a good weekend ladies....I'll try to get online at house.
