my fiancee is a Marine and just got home from Iraq, he has a good workout, clean diet already but needs to drop some pounds fast to fit his uniforms better. While they are in Iraq they don't have daily access to a gym, obviously, and with all my care packages he put on a few and wants them gone as fast as possible, any suggestions? He has three weeks to drop as much weight as possible?

I have a good friend who just got back from Iraq who was also in the Marines. He says staying in shape over there isn't tough at all. There is plenty of cardio to be had especially while carrying heavy packs under the hot sun. Most camps also have workout facilities.

the military tends to put fat easily as their bodies need to get used to going without food for long periods of time. as a result the body saves a an extra amount of fat to keep and energy reservoir. this survival system doesn't work as the body never really uses fat as energy.
1eating essential fats as canola oil and olive oil could allow the body to get rid of some fat.
2eat as many small meals as possible rather than a few big meals so that food is used the most effective way and doesn't become fat.
3eat complex crabs!

You mentioned his diet was good so that's very important, stick with cardio workouts a few times a week and a good fat burner for energy and to inrease your metabolism.

Depends on what your job is, my Marine is a engineer, he didn't get any down time while he was there, he barely got to call me, he had his buddies calling me to tell me he was okay and was calling whenever possible. He was constantly exhausted, everytime he called me I could hear it in his voice. He was part of a special unit doing security missions. That might be the difference. Also, there were no workout facilities on his main base.

I'm not trying to call him out or anything but I'm curious what base he was at that they didn't have a gym. I was over there to and I was also a Marine and there is a gym everywhere. I know the guys in my unit worked our asses off and everyone in my unit came back to the states as skeletons, how did he gain weight by "working hard"? I was able to maintain just because I still got in the gym (which was a tent with a footlocker for a bench and a pipe with sandbags strapped to it for weights). We obviously didn't do any cardio. That is, until we stopped at Talil Air Base and when we got there we would go on runs (boots, cammie bottoms and carrying our M-16s). Theres always a way to workout and stay in shape if you are disciplined enough, if you arn't its easy to make excuses.
If he needs to drop weight now "to fit back into his uniform" tell his ass to start exercising more and not make excuses.
