Question.
My name is Nick, I am 16 years old 5' 6" and weight 134 lbs. I would like to know of a supplement that would help me get a good, cut looking stomach. I do about 20-30 minutes of cardio 3-4 times a week, and it seems to be helping a little but not as fast and as complete, as I wanted it to.

I would like a supplement that wouldn't have any negative side effects since I am still growing. Please recommend a supplement I should use to help get cut lean muscle especially around my stomach (to get rid of that layer of fat). Thanks a lot!

Answer.
I found E/C/A Xenadrine works well. This will not effect your growth or anything serious but can give some people headaches throughout the day and similar side effects. This will help a lot but does not replace a good diet and cardio done on an empty stomach in the morning.

I just read one of your articles and you recommend a E/C/A to a 16 year old. E/C/A's are to be used by people age 18 or higher. If that kid actually goes out and buys that eca and has some heart problems due to the ephedra you will probably be held liable. So please in the future do not recommend supplements that could be potentially dangerous to teenagers

A smart response to this kids question would have been to give him a diet and training tips, not supplements that could hurt him.

Q: I'm starting to diet now for my competition so I know what you must be going through when dieting. The regular and most effective way is to cut down on your carbs and take a majority of them in the morning and do not take any at least three hours before bed, as they are likely to be stored as body fat. You will loose a bit of muscle with the fat that is why Glutamine is so effective as it helps save you from loosing muscle.

A: As you said you were becoming toned but also shrunk in size is properly because you are starting to loose fat but maybe lost a bit of muscle in the process. Just remember to cut down on your carbs increase your protein intake to help you keep as much muscle as possible and cardio 3-4 times a week first thing in the morning on an empty stomach for 20-45 mins. Any form of cardio will do I like to cycle but if you mix it up it makes it more enjoyable

Why do people still insist on doing cardio first thing in the morning before eating, that is a garunteed way to loose muscle mass, especially when dieting hard for a competition. after an 8 hour fast your body is already in a catabolic state...hey, Let go work out!!

This was hardly a "superb" Q&A.

possibly eric but isn't the whole point of doing cardio on in the morning that your glycogen is depleted already. I mean doing cardio right after a meal is a bit counter productive IMO. However I must bring up one point, studies have shown that you release Growth hormone when you do cardio or any workout for that matter before you eat in the morning and to my knowledge growth hormone supresses many catabolic hormones. Perhaps it is more advantagous than many people think.
Peace

But what your missing is that fat metabloism is in a constant state of flux. We are both burning and storing fat all day long. It is the negetive caloric balance at the end of the day, the end of the week, the end of the month that determines a net loss in actual body fat.

don't confuse fat mobilization and substrate utilization with the actaul loss of body fat.

The life span of GH is very short lived, I think the real anabolic affects come from its ability to stimulate IGF-I, which in itsef needs a constant supply of insulin and nutreints. As does GH im pretty sure.

Also, first thing in the morning, the primary catabolic hormone is glucogon and the only antagonist to that is insulin, and as far as I know the only way to get insulin up is food.

Even if there was an upside i think the negetives greatly out way it.

Thanx for the reply...keeps me on my toes :)

I agree with you for the most part however you did not address the hormonal issue.

Well I do much like i wrote about in my article "anabolic Aerobics"

During the week I lift in the morning, so I do my cardio in the afternoon about 8 hours later around 4:30pm.

I do a pre/post work out shake deal with dextrose, whey, creatine and glutamine much like I do for lifting but only 1/2 as much. I feel that as long as I am in a calorie deficit the fat is goign to come off.

And becaue I do very high intensity cardio W/ supplementation I also fell that doing things this way helps my put on more muscle. Much like i talked about in the article.

And on a side note, ever since having thepre/post work out carbs and stuff for my cardio I don't get tired as fast and can actually work harder so I end up creatine a greater deficit with the same duration per session.
