I hurt my right knee... it has been a bit swollen for the last week, and hotter than my other knee.
Why is the swelling bad ?
I am just wondering because, if it was so bad, then why does our body do it? to self destruct?

I know im meant to rest it... I just want to know why I'm meant to try reduce swelling with anti-inflammatory drugs and ice... why is the swelling bad ? and if its bad why does our body do it ?

This may not be 100% correct, but the way it has been explained to me is this.
Swelling is an accumulation of blood, white blood cells, & or water to help prevent farther damage to a stressed area of the body.
As for why anti inflammatory drugs & ice are used, well that I don't have a good answer for other than personal comfort. Personally I refuse to take any kinda prescription medication & even over the counter stuff, unless the pain or sickness is totally unbearable.

You've made tiny ruptures in tissues causing fluid and blood to accumulate there. Too much swelling can cause further cell death.
