Anyone tried using these?

http://www.newgrip.com/

I know the website sings this product's praises (as you would expect) but I am going through a problem with tennis elbow at the moment, and when it's healed, in addition to various strengthening exercises, I want to do as much as possible to try to prevent it coming back. Since I'm quite sure that gripping too hard is a major cause of the problem I was hoping this product or something like it would help.

Anyone tried this product before?

Cheers

My old lifting gloves smell like pure evil, despite multiple attempts to wash/disinfect them. They've also fallen apart so I figured I'd get a new pair.

I just got my newgrips in the mail today. I exchanged emails with the guy that owns the company, Alan. Very professional & personable, not to mention he replied to my email w/in minutes of sending it.

His site also states that the grips will be shipped w/in 3 days and should take 4-7 days to arrive (if you choose the free shipping option). I ordered mine on the 10th (Thursday) and got them today, Monday the 14th. Considering the post office was closed on Friday (Veteran's day) & that the mail doesn't come on Sundays, his shipping was lightning fast.

As far as how they perform, well I'm gonna hit the gym in a couple hours from now, I'll let you know.

Really though, worst case scenario: I don't like them, pay for two postage stamps to send them back & get a full refund.

Alright, got back from the gym. First of all let me say that the selling point of these grips for me were the fact that they're designed with cooling in mind, they won't absorb sweat like my other gloves did, they're durable, as neoprene tends to be (wetsuits), and I like the fact that they're fully adjustable. I was not counting on them to magically enable me to lift any more weight than I can, like some of the testimonies on the site stated. Also of note, I used to think that gloves/grips were for wusses but after actually using them I was able to lift more efficiently. If you don't use them, that's great, it's just something that works for me. On to the review...

The grips came in a manila envelope along with a small instruction street. If you can't tell by the website, these grips are made by a small company so there isn't any fancy packaging or marketing gimmicks.

The quality of the grips is what I expected; again, nothing fancy, but solidly made. The neoprene is a lot thicker (1/4") than I pictured it to be, which is good. The velcro is nice and grippy but not to the point where you can't pull it off comfortably.

Today was chest/triceps/shoulder day. I started out on flat bench w/ a warm-up set of 12x135, followed by 10x205, 10x225, 8x235. I have what's called a 'ganglion cyst' on my right wrist, it's basically a small outpocketing of synovial fluid from the joint that's leaked out. This cyst usually prevents me from doing anymore than 6 or so reps on the last set, and sometimes it'll stop me in the middle of some of the other sets.

The padding on the grips and the wrist straps gave me the support I needed to go pain free. They took a little getting used to, as is expected, but my wrists felt great. The neoprene pads are pretty wide so the bottom of my thumbs didn't rub against the bar like they usually do (I use an open grip on bench). It felt good to be able to get 2 more reps on the last set because my wrists weren't tweaked out. Maybe this is why some of those people in the testimonials felt like they could lift more. The grip was nice and sticky too.

The rest of the work-out went pretty much the same. Gripping dumbells was much more comfortable and my hands didn't feel strained like they sometimes do on heavier lifts. This was especially true for shrugs. I used the smith machine to do them today (10x180, 10x230, 10x250). Usually the bar will either pinch the skin at the base of my fingers (even with gloves on) so I'll have to set it down and regrip it again, this didn't happen today. My hands felt great and the grip was solid.

I took the grips off of the wrist straps when I used cable grips because the ones at my gym are already pretty soft and I felt like having too much padding might make things feel squishy.

All in all, I like the product. The grips lived up to my expectations and helped with my right wrist. There's enough padding to be effective, but not so much that they make the weight feel unstable. After a solid 1.5 hours of lifting the neoprene hasn't shown any stress marks or tears. I'd recommend trying these out. Like I said before, if you don't like them you can get your money back.

I did have one very minor problem with the newgrips. Sometimes if I wasn't paying attention when I tightened the wrist straps, my skin would get slightly pinched around the metal tightening loop. This was easily remedied by a simple half-second readjustment, not a big deal at all.

Good stuff. I'm interested to see how they perform on deadlifts & pulling motions. Hope this helped, cheers.
