Interesting, is he going to test you to cofirm? I had an allergic reaction last year after drinking a shake, still not quite sure what caused it.

Also don't heat stuff in the microwave in plastic as it releases all sorts of not so good stuff. Glad you found out what it was.
Thanks for posting this rokk.

Yes I was just last night telling my family about this one.
Perhaps a "Sticky" on this would be a good idea.

bodyrokk, sorry to hear about your situation and hope that you manage this condition as soon as possible.
I realize that you and your physician are 99% certain that the cause is due to the plastic but has this been confirmed by actual testing? As you know it is often very difficult to pindown the actual allergens that precipitate allergic/asthmatic/anaphylactic reactions and often takes a painstaking and methodical examination of all possible factors including an elimination diet to isolate the exact culprit(s). Be sure to post up what you find out. I am still unsure of what triggered mine and have been pretty careful since suffering the same type reaction as you last year.

Yikes! No good to hear....
It is funny how these allergies can suddenly creep up on you and, BAM!, your body just suddenly freaks out.
I became allergic to mangoes about 12 years ago.
5 years old, allergic to most antiperspirants
2 months ago, allergic to my favorite lip gloss (Red Earth's Watermelon)
Anyway, it's late, and I'm rambling. I guess what I'm saying is that if you react so severely, make sure you carry appropriate drugs with you at all times. I know that I never leave home without mine!

Here is another issue with plastic:
If you ate canned soup for lunch or sipped from a shiny transparent water bottle at the gym, a chemical called bisphenol A probably entered your body. The American Chemistry Council tells us that bisphenol A makes our lives "healthier and safer, each and every day." But accumulating scientific research indicates the chemical may be adversely affecting women's ability to have children and children's reproductive health. Recent studies link bisphenol A to obesity, breast and prostate cancer, and neurological disorders.

I have been trying to pinpoint this for the last several weeks ..stopped everything ..wrote all down ..only thing i didnt change was this plastic bottle ..DR told me all about plastic allergies..Especially the ones being made in china cause they use different chemicals ..Not sure if that is the problem but i stopped using the bottle and feel fine so far..i actually thought it was dishwasher detergent ,but ive been using same thing for years..everything i use is by trial and error..and if it works i keep using it...And i really liked those convenient shaker bottles!

Thanks for sharing your frightening experience ... i hope you are feeling better ... I just recently read how it's not good to leave your plastic water bottles in your car in the hot summer months .. an yes it is true group of chemicals called phthalates are sometimes added to plastic to make them more flexable..they are environmental contaminants that can exhibit hormone like behavior acting as endocrine disruptors when heated these chemicals in the plastic can be hazardous to our health it increases the leaching of phthalates into the water ... so if you need to be using the same plastic bottle you need to rinse it with warm soapy water... before refilling it ... stay well ...n drink plenty of water .. don't forget to rinse...
Glad you're okay... :)

You might want to look into the Nalgene water & shaker bottles. They are made from a different material.

Yeah, these allegies are weird, my sister and I both around age 25 became allergic to melons, tomatoes, and basically every tree, weed, and grass. Then last year out of the blue a cross reaction between ragweed and aleve caused a reaction. Or at least that is the diagnosis from my allergist.

My son's allergist said to me once that the body goes through a lot of hormonal changes every 7 years and that you can become allergic to things and even lose allergies to things. I keep hoping that is true because my son will soon be 7 and he has allergies to peanuts, soy, legumes, dogs and dust mites. He also has asthma..lucky for us it is well controlled though medication
you mentioned protein, water and plastic ... i wonder if some mould started
growing in the bottle and that set you off?
i have had sneezing fits just walking by old houses because of the mould
they release ...
if you use anything for mixing liquids, always wash it in hot soapy water
and make sure its 100% dry before re-using ...
i have been tossing all my plastic stuff out and replacing it with glass
or stainless steel ... especially things that are heated ...

FWIW, I saw a commercial highlight for tonight's 20/20 (abc news) episode, which mentioned they're going to touch on the above topic. Might be worth seeing what they have to say about it.
And glad to hear the OP has at least narrowed down what was causing your reactions. Hope your recovery goes well from here on...

Hey, Rokk,
Thanks so much for posting this. I have asthma as well and it's been getting progressively worse -- nothing as bad as you've ever dealt with, but I fear that's coming. I also have allergies in abundance.
My ex and my friends have been trying to get me to stop re-using my plastic bottles over and over, and to stop heating my oatmeal/egg whites in a plastic container in the microwave.
I am stopping today. I'll pick up a Nalgene bottle to use to carry my water around with me.
But...my shaker bottles! What will I do without them?!
Going through withdrawal...right ... NOW.
that is true..my dr. said your body changes every 7 yrs..so hopefully the next 7 get better...
bgnb....i always make sure i clean it out good before using ,or if it was just water and sat in my car ..
just wanted to mention it ... mould spores are everywhere and only
require a little water and any type of food source (even sheet rock!)
to start growing ... if you have allergies it only takes a few to set you
off.
