can you get lean by eating just fruit and veg and essential fats?.... There is this woman at my gym who just eats like this, fruit in the morning, lots of raw salad and steamed veggies,no salt, essential fats and some nuts, she is ripped! she said she used to eat protein (egg whites and fish) but since she eliminated that she got leaner....she is so so defined, six pack etc... all on no protein? how does that work? she is small in size but very lean!

you need a minimum amount of protein daily or you will lose lean mass.
it will make you very 'lean', of course.

define 'lean'.
you can look very 'thin' and 'small'. you can also look very 'huge' and 'freaky' with the same absolute bodyfat. it is a question of body composition - relative amounts of muscle mass and fat. and you can have a six-pack if your BF is low enough. everyone has a six-pack but it's usually covered with fat :D
if you totally drop protein you drop calories which will make you lose mass. muscle mass that is. but i doubt she gets *none*. that's unhealthy.
if you're not interested in developing a 'muscular' appearence you can get away with about 60-80 grams protein daily. that's the amount of body protein excreted daily. it's called protein turnover, a normal process of repairing and replacing body tissues.

thanks got it! i personally dont want a muscular physique and dont plan on reducing protein either - was just wondering how she manages to get such a ripped look with little protein - definition and low body fat...
